Meteor Shower Egg

You see a small, jet black egg that is a slightly lopsided oval. As you peer more closely at it, you can see hundreds of tiny silver dots scattered across its entire surface. All along one side is a cluster of slender white, red and silver streaks, coming down from the tip of the egg towards its base. On the other side are two larger silver dots, about the size of a woman's fingertip. The base has a tinge of gray, and you feel that you are witnessing a rare meteor shower as you gaze upon it.

Dark's Fullness Egg

The richness of night's sky envelops this egg in velvety darkness. Its dusky coloration seems to draw the eye in, subtly, whorls of deeper blue accenting the smooth shell. Within the darkness, a complexity of patterning awaits discovery for only the most patient observer; galaxies of stars pinprick constellations in barely-visible white, hints of jewelline invading dark's constancy.

Land of the Midnight Sun Egg

A dull grey washes over this egg, amorphous blotches of cloudlike shape covering it in parts. Near the middle of one side is a brighter circle of yellowish grey, the sun peeking across the cold sky of the mountains far to the north of High Reaches, where in the summer it never sets.

Something Under Your Bed Egg

Sometimes when you awaken in the middle of the night, you think that it was from a sound, or maybe a nudge, from something under your cot. You know the kind of awakening, just a little bit startled, so you grit your teeth and swing over the side of your bed, cracking the pot of glows on the night stand to get a look. Well, this egg looks just like what you see, a dark mixture of shadows and those little bits of fuzz that accumulate under your bed in all sorts of colors from your poor sweeping efforts of the last ten turns.

Glowing Harvest Moon Egg Bold text As Belior rises over the horizon, it's color is not the usual pale silver. Instead, this evening, it's the color of orange embers. You can easily see the pocking marks that give that moon it's distint appearance. Craters hold an either ebony or dark orange hue as they spread to encompass the whole. Yet this shinning orb would not be complete without it's lesser sister hovering nearby. The smaller Timor hides behind the other, the two casting shadows upon themselves. All the more eerie and beautiful a scene they make as one.

Crepuscular Insect Egg

Some people when glancing at this egg may think of a sudden shudder, a passing of creepy-crawly alien tendrils dancing over vulnerable unprotected skin. A surprise of scurrying motion in a popular place after the lights are off and the merrymakers have all gone home. The uninvited guest whose presence causes shock and dismay. To other people though, those who are not bothered by the radically different looks there is some beauty to be found here. When light plays over the darkened surface of the egg subtle hilites of rich metallic beauty flash to life. Liquid emerald swirls with silvered steel, flowing about the shell surface to meld into an exotic blend of shading that bears resemblance to an aurora borealis viewed through a fine layer of black gossamer.

Summer Storm Egg

This egg seems to move while staying still, the surface in constant motion like clouds creating a violent storm. The deep grey colour shifts from near white to black and back again, some of the patterns reminicent of a tornado. Its shape is a twisted ovoid, though the twisting may be a simple illusion from the quick flowing colour.

Blood Red Egg

This egg is the color of a just-before-dusk setting of Rukbat, seemingly painted against a cloudless, starry sky. Gazing at the shell, you get a sense of uneasiness among the colors if daylight is on it - but in the cavern, covered from the effects, it is at home. Such a simply designed egg actually has more complex swirls of white and black within the design, giving it an almost gray tinge. Tracing one of the swirls, you might just go on forever.

Lunar Eclipse Egg

You see a most unusual egg, hiding in the middle of the clutch. There is a wash of pale grey all over the egg, covering it completely. On the side of the egg is a large black circle, with a slender ring of incredibly bright yellowish orange around it. No other colors or designs mar the surface. It appears to represent an eclipse, as if one of Pern's moons has turned day into night.

Fire's Dancing Shadows Egg

When the night is col and dreary, and toes and fingers crispy. A handsomely crackling fire warms both spirit and body. Yet upon the walls and settings it's glow is mingled with shadows. Dancing shapes and tendrils leap within the light that falls. This combined power of fiery warmth and twining, shadowy tongues is now cast upon this large ovid. Up and down and around and twisting about at all angles it would seems. Beautiful, simple, elegant and then you notice that as you move these designs and patterns truly seem to dance.

Silent Moon Egg

A crescent, a sliver, a bare tease of light illuminating the sky with reflected light; the shell seems a satellite come to rest on the sands. Moonglow is dim here, but faintly present nonetheless, while craters pockmark the surface, reminders of ancient impacts. Some deeper meaning might be divined from those pale, mystical markings; perhaps a hint of what moonglow holds?

After Sunset Egg

As Rukbat dissapears from eyes, over the horizon, it leaves a colorful blanket amongst the clouds. Purples, pinks and oranges are interwoven in dazzling designs. Nature's own perfect beauty shown for all to see and admire. Yet this glory of nature soon fades as the light slips around the world and Timor and Belior make their appearance. For night-time skies with scattered clouds also have their glory. Yet this is more subtle. Pale silver highlights the clouds that dance across the faces of these two moons. Still even more wonderful, is this night lends auras of their own to circle about each moon. Complete, whole, night has now cast her wonder on Pern.

The Settling of Eventide Egg

Midnight black covers this egg, cloaking it in the darkness of eventide. No stars light up the blackness, the night has taken over. But light is coming from somewhere, cutting through the darkness, as streams of flame flow across the egg. Near the edges of the crimson flames the 'sky' is as light as day, steadily darkening to gray shadows farther from the unnatural light, back to the blackness that even flames cannot destroy.

Sleepwalking Egg

This egg looks oddly familiar to you. Wasn't it.. over there last time you looked? Or behind that darkish-looking one to the right? Anyhow, this one certainly seems to take its time, the coating of greyish and white hues slowly creeping along the shell, almost as if they didn't know where they were going. This egg certainly will get some attention at hatching time.. it's sure to be bumping into its neighbors.

Reflective Moonlit Waters Egg

The cool and crisp darkness that is the night of full moon. Not complete blackness, but a gray that falls upon everything. That moonlit glow, soft and gentle, beats down upon a lake of great magniture. It's brightness great enough for it to be thrown back to the stars and darkness. Eerie outlines of great mountain peaks, topped with caps of snowfall white. These mountains seem to circle the black lake which cast's their forms upon it's surface. Yet throws them back, a mirror of nature.

Midnight Madness Egg

This is a very busy egg, full of commotion and excitement among its many colors. One section is dark, almost a deep rich blue found on several of the 'Reachian blue dragons. The blue is trimmed with white. At one edge of the egg is a curious splotch of reddish-orange, circular in shape, but almost blurred as if it were moving rapidly across the shell itself. The design makes you feel anticipation about the upcoming hatching and the long, grueling, but remarkable seasons ahead.

Secretive Elopement Egg

Concealing layers of deep indigo wrap protectively about the shell of this egg, blending it into secret shadows. Close inspection of the blue reveals lighter shadings in the form of figurines caught in an age old dance. High, near the crown of the egg is a lovely violet shape that peers forth into the darkness from a window of glowing amber. A ladder trail of endive leads from the topmost figure down to a mixture of dark lavendar placed at the very bottom of the shell which seems to look upwards lovingly along the ladder and extend an invitation to violet to join it. Right around the corner lurks a splotch of angry looking russet, guarding the greater part of the shell from the very situation taking place behind it's back.

Sunset in Tillek Egg

Deep in mountain valley where night has already descended, one end of the valley opens up to show Rukbat sinking. A deep orange circle, surrounded by fantastic purples, pinks, oranges streaking across a sky that already shows sparks of the first evening stars. Night surrounds you, but in the distance a light show for you alone.

Crackling Lightning Egg

A mixture of grey and purple blankets the shell of this egg, except for a jagged white streak that juts across the side and spiderwebs out near the top of the oval. You touch your head.. was that a rain drop? This egg certainly harbors a nighttime thunderstorm, found perhaps in the jungles of Boll or in the brief rainy season of Igen.. when thunder, lightning and rain happen within minutes, then pass on in the swiftest of moments.

Etched in Darkness Egg

The light blue color of this egg has been almost totally obscured by sweeping lines of darkest indigo that have all the appearances of having been engraved. If you could get close enough to touch this egg you imagine that you could trace the deep grooves of dark blue along their wandering pathways. The paleness of the lighter blue makes a striking contrast to the intensity of the second color, the last fingers of light, vainly keeping their hold on the sky as darkness descends.

Dawn Sisters Eggs

The trio of silvery eggs lie so still on the sands, they appear to be a reflection of their skyborn namesakes. The largest is completely ovoid, while its two siblings are a more oval shape. Yventh takes particular care over these three, gently piling sand around them, as if she too is reluctant to move them out of their uncanny configuration to the three "stars".

Silver Freeze Egg

The feeling of iciness emanates from this egg, and it seems like any moment will bring the enevitable *snap* that signals the breaking of a tree branch that has been captured in ice. The entire surface has a glassy appearance as if it, too, has been frozen during the night, and the warmth of the sun and the sands will be its only release.

Beacon in the Night Egg

The smallest egg, off to one side, its deep grey colour roiling about as if it were a transparent shell filled with smoke. Although you -know- that the surface is solid, it looks like if you stretched out your hand to touch it, there would be no resistance, just the cool dampness of a thick fog. Facing the others in the mound, a streak of yellow cuts the duskiness, a phantom light, beckoning the others to follow.

Dazzling Moonflower Egg

Pearlescent white, like the flower that blooms only by the light of the moon, this egg sits aloof on the sands, set apart from its mates as if it were standing on the sidelines to watch the activities going on around it. Bare shadows flit across its surface like a hundred tiny butterflies as the suns rays burn down on it from above.

Watchful Guardian Egg

It sits alone on the edge, its presence a comfrot to those around it, as if it were protecting them from harm. Its features are a deep, muddy brown, pitted with nicks and shadows that make it look as knobby as the watchwher it so much resembles as it sits ever patient besides its brethern, silent and watchful, ever ready to sound the alarm.

Midnight Snack Egg

You're not sure what exactly it -is- about this egg, but boy, it makes you suddenly hungry! Looking like nothing more than a large sweetroll, this soft, cinnamon colored egg lays half exposed in the sand, reddish-orange flecks dappling its smooth, even surface. The dappling effect seems more dense on one side of the egg, as if it had gotten more of the cinnamony-sweet filling on it. The top is frosted white, making your mouth water for the taste of sweetroll topping, and a nice mug of klah to go with it.

Sky's Evening Gather Egg

Dark blue-grey, this egg seems to absorb the light into it's flat, dull finish, throwing it out again in tiny pin-pricks of light, arranged like the constellations of the night sky. The stars seem to move as the light shifts over them, almost as if they were dancing across the night sky like holder folk at a gather.

The Dew That Covers Egg

Instead of being a smooth oval shape this dark green egg has the appearance of being covered in a million droplets of water. Each drop holds the reflection of all the other eggs, or is that just a trick of the light? Even blinking, you can't quite tell. Light plays over what bit surface that is not buried in the sand casting lush rainbows over the other eggs.

A Still Winter Snow Egg

Emanating from this egg is a sort of coolness, the crispness evoked by standing in a field at midnight at Turn's End, watching the full moon reflecting off the full banks of newly fallen snow. What once were rocks and trees are now magical shapes under their thick white blankets - the outline of a mother dragon curled protectively around her clutch of eggs, a group of weyr women gathering withies in the spring, and a young girl bent over her sewing. Above, the sky is a black and starless cover of velvet, sinking softly against the ground's protective cover.

A Little Night Music Egg

From afar, this egg looks just like the score sheet a harper would be using to play a hearty dance... it looks quite complicated, actually, and a few places are covered with splotches, like someone had to scribble out a few wrong notes. Squinting, you can see that in fact, this egg is simply buff coloured with splotches of deep brown in random places - not a harper's egg at all!

Sunrise in the Desert Egg

Pale yellows, oranges and peaches jostle for attention over the shell of this medium-sized egg. Resting in the hollow of sand that Yventh has created for it, it looks almost like the sun breaking over the desert, one defiant orange streak racing along the bottom and disappearing into the sand in which it lies. A few pearly clouds hang serenly over the top of the egg, the wispy kind that show the day will be a pretty one. The effect is heightened if you lie on your stomach and let it fill your field of vision.

Last Star of the Morning Egg

Deepest blue mostly hidden in the sands fades to pale across the top; you know the sun is almost ready to break through and wake up the world. But wait! On the top right side is one tiny, pale dot, the last star in the morning, hanging tenaciously on to her position in the sky, not yet ready to be eclipsed by her morning sister. Even as you watch, she fades away, only to come to light again as the sun above creeps behind a cloud.

Eleventh Hour Egg The guest at the supper party that arrives after dinner is served but before the dessert is cleared away, timed to get an empty plate and yet still have to watch others indulge in sweetness. So late arrived upon the sands that it's likely many had already counted the number of eggs as final and are put to the trouble of adding one more to equations and ledgers and resettling bets. Draped in a color that is never on time for the more delicate and intricate shadings of twilight and yet never seems to reach the purity of the hue of midnight. Not quite indigo and yet too dark to be sapphire the look here is definitely almost blue...or maybe purple? Even the very color of the shell lavishes somewhere in the off-center of betweenness, what sort of dragon would an egg like this hold?
