Bulky, hulking, the huge blue dragon explores the world with oddly delicate paws to tip his sturdy limbs; now and again there's even a bounce to his stride. Always there's a plush warmth to his dark hide; its brownish lowlights become more pronounced across the weight of his thick forehead and strongly crested neck, his muscular shoulders and craggy, shaggy wings. His eyes may seem small beneath such a heavy brow, but they have a keen glint, and the near-eternal venturesomeness of his approach comes with curving gray-sheened claws.

Carve Away the Mountain

The shifting of light and shadow lends a sense of roughness to this unevenly oval egg. Bands of green and grey play in concentric circles from tip to base, only occasionally marred by craggy washes of darker green. Pale and subtle touches of yellow-green add depth to those shapes and lines, giving a sense of both organic pattern and geometric structure.

Thrash. Crash. Boom. Carve Away the Mountain Egg splits to shards amid dust-like smoke or smoke-like dust. Quivering on three and then four paws, a dinky blue dragonet surveys the scene and then hops high and far, right over the ruins of his egg... only to crash into the sand beyond. He wallows there for a few moments before stubbornly getting a move on in the same direction. It may even be the 'right' way.

Praxis of Blue

Such soulful eyes, such a skinny neck and short, shaggy wings: the small blue dragonet explores the world with oddly delicate paws to tip his spindly limbs. Not only is there often a bounce to his stride, there's always a plush warmth to his mid-blue hide; the latter has brownish lowlights that become more pronounced across his wingspan, greenish-brown across his belly like so many grassy stains. The tip of his muzzle is darker, his legs lighter, the curious venturesomeness of his approach the lightest of all.

Temperament

Your Jorrth is a herd animal, but not a prey animal. He might look like prey at first, so small, so spindly-limbed, with such endearingly big eyes... but there's nothing reticent or wary about him, not with the unquestionable strength of community that he shares with you, even before the craggy size and strength that will develop with his exploration of the world.

Interest and industriousness, combined with caring for others, aren't always the most glamorous traits... but imagine how Neville might not have been reviled as a boy, had he only been sorted into Hufflepuff. Your dragon isn't concerned with a reputation for drama or even bravery, though he may be brave; Jorrth has a strong sense of who he is, even from the beginning, not to mention a sense of wonder and awe that he will certainly share with Roszadyth and Lifreyth. In youth, he loves to play-- chasing, battling, butting, kicking, racing... whatever springs to mind. Whatever he can draw other people into. The world is a wonderful, fascinating, amazing place, and Jorrth doesn't just want to explore it, he wants to share that sense with everyone around him. There's no cynicism to your blue, T'mic: he's simply and honestly wowed by everything. (Sadly for Teaching Songs, greenery is especially nice!)

That interest in the world directly correlates to an interest in lessons, an interest that he will encourage in you, too. He's diligent in all he does, and expects others to be also; it's something he appreciates about you. Jorrth isn't usually the first to pick up a concept, but he doesn't tend to be far behind... and he feels very strongly about practicing until he gets it right. Yes, even if it means a hundred times. Even if it means a thousand. « And I need to see if it goes differently if I try it this way! » In this, he will likely find a kindred soul in Neianth. While some of his clutchmates may be more focused on their immediate world, Jorrth has already extended his awareness towards both the broader Weyr, and the world beyond it. He's part of it-- he belongs.

Jorrth's also a physical dragon, showing his affection through gentle headbutts and nudges, sometimes even letting that short, inclined-to-curl tail brush past you as he passes. He switches at bugs with that tail, and lifts it high when he's angered; it's an expressive tail. In youth, he'll go through several stages of growth, and his neck, in particular, will likely result in you needing to make several sets of straps. But it's worth it; it's wonderful, when you're in the air together.

He has a keen sense of smell, and of hearing, too, and loves to use this to better understand the world. This, and his natural curiosity, makes him excellent at finding things: « T'mic! There is grass beneath the snow. Do you think it hides there all turn long? » (He'll also likely be excellent at finding candidates, one day). Generally mild-mannered, Jorrth often comes across as peaceful and unconcerned by the activities of those around him, but in youth he can become aggressive with little warning, as if a switch flicks in his head and suddenly he can't hold himself back any longer. In time, he will learn how to work with others better, and how to be part of a team; eventually, he'll take great satisfaction in truly effective teamwork and collaboration. Perhaps you'll even figure out subtle warning signs and head trouble off at the pass.

As he grows (and his muscles strengthen, and his hide darkens until those 'grass stains' can only be seen by the most discerning eye), his questions will likely shift from « Why? » to « How? » and finally, to « Is there a better way? » In adulthood, he's likely to balance throwing himself into things with the simple delights of an afternoon nap or a dusty wallow, though he's always likely to have plenty of energy. He's agile in flight, but his real strengths are in acceleration and endurance; conveniently, he's one of those dragons who thoroughly enjoys flying sweeps, because there's just so much to see. Still, he has a compassionate scientist's interest in the newly hatched, and would do well should you pursue a weyrlingmaster's role.

He likes other dragons, your Jorrth, and is less inclined to stay on his own ledge once he has one, and rather more interested in joining others. He'll roam, migrating from the lake to the star stones, to the rim, to someone's ledge, to the pens (even if he's not hungry), and onwards again. He likes following the sun, especially if there's company to be had. He's good company: not wordy, but smart, full of genuine interest in other dragons and whatever it is they are interested in in turn. He's liable to be positively delighted by Ahtzudaeth's collections, though they're not something he'd want for himself; he'll equally enjoy Akluseth's impulsive enthusiasm, though this too is not something he covets.

Slower to mature than many of his siblings, he'll likely be entirely unbothered by greens until long past graduation. When he does chase, however, he'll throw himself into the fray with as much enthusiasm as he has for anything. Interestingly, he's more interested in flights during the summer, independent of tropical heat. It's just that he likes the sun. He can be a little belligerent in the flights themselves, and is inclined to huff and have to take time to cool down, afterwards, if he fails to catch the green... before being abruptly okay with it all again. He has lingering affection for those he does catch, though he's not necessarily drawn to the same green every time; every season is different.

He's both calm and excitable, your Jorrth, and both intelligent and easy-going. He'll increasingly like his things to be tidy, but there's not much that will truly bother him. You're his, his partner in all things, and he can't imagine a day spent without you at his side. Together, you both belong to High Reaches: Cadejoth may see it as a pack, but for Jorrth, it is all about the herd, and he's happy with his place-- the place you share-- within it.

Public Impression Message

It could be comical, the itty bitty blue dragonet orienting on the big strong lunk of a candidate, but it's also very clear and no mistake: that short tail curls and the Praxis of Blue Hatchling hurries in a series of hops to clutch at that lunk's... ankles. His.

Private Impression Message

It really isn't just you. Those other people whose lives you've touched, who are out in the stands and even here on the sands, they're hoping for you. You can feel them, somehow, in a way you never could before. Your heart stutters, skipping a beat. Two. And then it's beating in tandem, and though you can't walk, that's because there's a tiny blue dragonet wrapped about your ankles and how is he ever, ever going to carry a big lug like you? « T'mic. » It's high-pitched as the littlest littles. « T'mic and Jorrth. Jorrth and T'mic! » Never mind that tug to your stomach, how you're suddenly starving, how your world's changed forever, it's all going to be okay.

Mindvoice

Jorrth's high, whistly mind-voice (and, let's face it, physical bleats and grunts) does little to presage the deep rumble that will come with maturity or even the crackly voice of adolescence. The one constant: a shaggy smell, at once faintly musty and faintly musky, like burying one's nose in a comfortable pelt... that's lain amidst grass well-warmed by the sun. This, now, is home.

Itchyspots

Not only does Jorrth have his spots that tend to get itchy, he knows that other dragons do too. His tend to be on the caudal side of his seemingly ever-growing shoulders and the crest of his neck, but also at the 'palm' of his paws, and then there's the floating bit that shows up without apparent rhyme or reason. He'll be fond of rubbing up against rocks, trees, other dragons, etc. to scratch his itches, probably even when he no longer appears to be growing and you'd like him to preserve his straps from friction, and one of his favorite herd rituals is grooming other dragons and being groomed in return.

Inspiration

"Anthropology demands the open-mindedness with which one must look and listen, record in astonishment and wonder that which one would not have been able to guess." --Margaret Mead. Jorrth is inspired by what you wrote, which led to the scientific method, sensawunda... and Hufflepuffs. As for the animal movement you wanted? Bison, despite their size and lumbering-ness, can accelerate from 0 to 'Oops!' faster than you can probably say it.
