Glitter and Glitz Egg

Delightfully glittery and resplendent, this egg has all kinds of colours on its shimmering surface. Pink is splashed at the egg's apex, though this colour doesn't go far before it's interrupted by brilliant lime green, splotches of purple and flecks of bright blue. A streak of yellow is splashed across the egg's middle, while the bottom is a fairly even orangey-red. Here and there are spots of silver and gold, not so much breaking up the other patches of colour but rather adding to the miasma. The whole egg is one sparkling, shining mess of colours, and it isn't exactly easy on the eye.

Glitter and Glitz Egg cracks wholly open, splitting rather neatly into jagged halves. The tidiness of this arrangement is not to last, however, for the hatchling within is curled tight with wings tangled around himself, head tucked under, back legs in the air. He kicks them, then sprawls over atop one of the parts of his shell, crushing it into so many soggy shards. Finally, the little brown rights himself and shakes goo and sand from his head, eyes already whirling a hungry hue as he gets his first look 'round the great big world.

Reflective Seasons Brown

A winter's glimmering mist has settled upon this lithe brown, the haze of mountaintops and crisp mornings with the lightest kiss of snow lightening him along his jaw, across his eyeridges and around his elbows and knees; this pale hue settling over his round muzzle and large eyes lends a touch of age to an ever-youthful face. Between and around these frosty markings, his hide darkens into the rich, deep notes of freshly turned earth with tawny spring tones sprouting along the sides of his slender neck, the entirety of his slim torso and the taper of his graceful, spaded tail. The warmth of sun gleams saffron down sinuously curving neckridges and between arched mahogany spars, his large wings sporting broad sails revealing a patchwork of hues. From ginger to garnet, they crisscross one another in chaotic splotches like autumn leaves scattered over loamy ground. He's certain in manner and movement, each motion carrying him forward with smooth inevitability, the most gracious of marches.

Temperament

Unlike many dragons, Xorvith is a creature of the past and the future, more than he is here in the present. His thoughts tend to be reflections of what has been or anticipation for what will be, and as a weyrling, it will be a challenge to keep him in the moment. He greets the newness of so many moments during weyrlinghood with eager surprise, shocked from his reverie to delight in every new leaf turned, every new beginning. « From now on, I can hunt. » A simple statement that changes life forever, sprouting a whole new take on the past and future.

His musing will jump from place to place and Xorvith will let them, so while the class is meant to be resting or practicing a still, slow, exercise, he will be bombarding you questions seemingly out of the blue: « What did you dream about last night? What are we going to do next? Did you see that big blue swimming in the lake, yesterday? When's dinner? » While other pairs in your class might seem like they're paying attention without trouble, you may find yourself having to work harder to keep him focused.

Though he can physically keep still when required, your brown's thoughts whirl at a mile a minute. Thankfully, as dragons haven't much of a memory, some of those questions will be repeated from day to day, and once you can dole out your standard answers by rote, there may be something almost soothing in the predictable if frenzied, flow of thought. Though Xorvith does expect you to respond to his queries (even the ones he's asked a hundred times before), he doesn't seem to mind if the answers should seem suspiciously familiar.

When left to his own devices, Xorvith's body follows his mind. When not holding a position for lessons or sleeping off the day's excitement, he's a whirlwind of activity. If he's ever going to get through an exercise or finish a job it'll be all credit to you for keeping him on-task - and never is he more proud than when he's completed something important for you. « Wow, B'rin. Look what I did! »

As Xorvith begins to mature, the frenzied energy that lacked focus when he was younger can be put to better use. Though he will always have questions for you, his rider, they will tend to be pertinent ones that show a surprising insight into goings-on around him. He'll have a knack for thinking ahead and display a sort of self-reflection that most dragons lack. With the all this knowledge come plans, and Xorvith's tend to be of the grand sort; projects and ways to improve. « From this day forward! » But it is you that may be the driving force behind these inspirations, whether they originate in your own wishes or the things he wishes on your behalf.

Though it might be easy to dismiss his insights you may discover Xorvith's perspective to offer some very useful understanding of your own needs and motivations. When the subject is you, he's a fount of useful ideas, of intriguing hypotheses and tantalizing possibilities - but he always leaves it to you to decide what angles you might wish to pursue.

Around others he is less likely to lose himself in introspection, and Xorvith can put his deep thoughts on hold if something more immediately interesting presents itself. If Yaijeth would like to go swimming or Lieryth wants to race him around the bowl, he's as likely to be game as any dragon. Since what came before and what comes next are what's most often on his mind, your Xorvith can ironically find the present to be a perpetual and delightful surprise.

This isn't to say he's easily distracted from his aims, however. By the time he's outgrown some of the lack of focus that plagued his youth, Xorvith's ready to prove himself your partner not just in work and play, but in pursuing your goals as well. Here he takes his cues from you - he's unlikely to press for rank or responsibility without your interest - but once the idea's in his head, all of his powers of insight and introspection come into play. The ability to analyze the past and make reasonable assumptions about the future serves you both well in matters of ambition, where just a little scheming can go such a long way.

Though not particularly eager in pursuit, at times even Xorvith is unable to resist the appeal of a glowing dragon. He's most in his element when the lady's using strategy and acrobatics to challenge her suitors, or even if she's just bolting about pell-mell; a green or gold whose mode is simply to fly as fast and as high as she can may present problems. With those chases, Xorvith tends to over-think the situation, make a turn or twist or double-back when the female's only going to keep on flying higher. It's the flights where he knows the female that suit him best of all, gaining the advantage of better predicting her tricks.

Win or lose, the end result is essentially the same. he will spend a few days dissecting the chase over and over again until his limited memory lets it fade. However great his fascination with the lady dragon in the moment, it's the pursuit itself that appeals the most over time.

Xorvith enjoys eggs on the sands at any time, but he will be particularly enraptured with any he helped to create. There's so much potential and so many unknowns. When the eggs hatch and many of those questions are answered, his fascination tends to fade back to the general friendliness he offers all dragons - that these are his children is a fact for you to remember, not him.

When it comes to flying fall, Xorvith shines. All those rapid-fire non-stop questions of his youth will have been for this: the ability to think and act at the same time. Even as he is weighing up the fall and the wind, determining how they might shift, he's ducking out of the way and charring the lethal filaments as he goes. Though capable of long, sustained peals of flame, he prefers to use short power bursts as if he's trying to get it all out in one breath, extinguishing Thread in solitary explosions of fire.

He's excellent on the periphery of a wing or in places where he's expected to work independently. It's more difficult when he's needed to work in tandem with the rest of a wing and harder yet to lead one. Though he certainly has the potential, it will be his focus, once again, that will need refining. There's a difference between running ideas through your own thoughts and responding, and making sure the rest of your wing understands what you plan to do and why. It's the latter that will be Xorvith's biggest challenge, and it will fall to you to help keep him on task when he must work as part of a cohesive team.

Mindvoice

Just as Xorvith's mind never stays on one notion for very long, so is his mental touch a transient display of light. While his voice itself is gentle, calmly taking every shift in stride, the images that accompany it sparkles like pale burning stars, blazing bright when inspiration strikes, twinkling as he muses. They flicker and dance about his mind, turning to mist as he falls into slumber or when his deeper reflections turn to things long since past or the distant future, events too far off for him truly grasp.

Internal Impression Message

Time hangs. Your breath falls still in your chest and your blood seems to stop its racing through your arteries, but there is no dizzying faint or slow suffocation imminent - just a slow straining toward something else. Something new. The roar of voices in the stands, the remarks and exclamations and shuffling feet of your fellows, the lurching motions of the hatchlings on the sand, all pause. For a moment, in the whole world, there are only these two words: « At last. » The relief is tangible. It's as though all that's come before in your life, not just in his brief moments lived so far, led to this moment - and he's glad, so glad, to know at last the reason for it all. Then, the noise picks up again and the heat of the sands is unbearable again and there's that gnawing, empty ache in your belly again and time goes on. « Now it's us. You and I. B'rin and Xorvith. Let's go! »

External Impression Message

Reflective Seasons Brown Hatchling stops. His hungry eyes whirl slower, then seem to quit whirling altogether. His tail wraps slowly around his feet with a final flick of its spaded tip, and then the little brown's as good as a statue. For a long moment he's frozen like so, inspiring held breaths among those in the stands who watch him - and then all at once he's in motion, loping easily with wings outstretched toward an awkward young man.

Inspiration

Old gives way to new and endings become beginnings. New Year celebrations around the world, while varying widely in length and style (not to mention actual calendar date), tend to share many of the same themes. At the end of a year people often reflect on events and experiences from the year gone by; at the beginning of a new year, we look forward with hopes, goals and wishes for the seasons yet to come. For Xorvith, who spends most of his 'thinking time' reflecting on what's happened and working the angles on what's likely to come, it's not that everything old is new again - though sometimes, of course, it is. The turning of seasons and the concepts of renewal and rebirth inform Xorvith's description. His woodsy tones and forest features also nod to the concept of New Years' Resolutions - with which many people try to 'turn a new leaf' each year. The play of light is the inspiration for Xorvith's mindvoice based in the customs of so many New Year's celebrations, whether it be lanterns, fireworks or just the dancing reflections of glitter in the air.

Name: Xorvith - Xorvith's name was based on the word 'rinnovi', Italian for 'renew', combined with the X you requested.

Egg Inspiration: Glitter! Bright colours! Honestly, everything looks better when it's covered in glitter of all different colours.
