In Brief

Weyrbred, Faryn lived in Ista Weyr with her weyrsecond mother until she was fostered in Tillek with her father and five half-brothers at the age of five. In Tillek, after several attempts with several crafts - including the Seacraft with her father, where her indomitable seasickness barred her from apprenticeship - she was finally admitted to the Beastcraft. Her time with the craft was tumultuous, but eventually landed her at the weyr, where she took to weyrlife quickly and well. Well enough, in fact, to be Searched - but fail to Impress. And well enough that, a turn after her failure, she left the craft entirely, to ensure herself another chance.

At Length

Pre-Weyr

Faryn was born in Ista Weyr to then-Weyrsecond Fadra, rider of brown Sulizath. Although she spent her first few Turns at the weyr, in the care of various nursemaids and nannies, by the time she was five she was fostered in her mother's place of origin in Tillek, with her sailor father. She grew up working alongside him and her several half-siblings, and was put on a boat early at the insistence of both her parents, an ordeal which ended abruptly when it became abundantly clear that she was unable to stomach being at sea for any long period of time, despite her best efforts. She was banished and landbound after that, where she dabbled among the master craftsmen of Tillek in an attempt to find her niche. Vintner failed her astoundingly, as did the Healerhall, and eventually it was the Beastcraft that took her in and helped her flourish.

Her formative years were spent in the Beasthall in Keroon, where she was apprenticed with each of the crafters until it became clear her talents would be best used with the runners and other herdbeasts, with whom she had a natural knack and unique rapport. Her assignment in the stables was doubly appropriate when she stopped growing at the extremely modest height of five-feet-four, making her the perfect jockey height, a fact that was lost on nobody, least of all Faryn. At fifteen, she began racing the runners with her peers, a thing she proved to have a talent for, and a hobby she indulged in frequently despite being told often to stop it right now. She never listened, and in fact did not stop racing until she was forced to, first by the Storm of Turn 36. Shortly after, she was posted to High Reaches Weyr as a senior apprentice, with the not-so-subtle suggestion that she would need to start focusing her behavior on productive points if she wanted to earn enough trust to remain in the craft and eventually walk the tables.

Turn 37 - Present

So, of course, in Turn 37, she Stood for a clutch instead, even despite progress made in both responsibility and maturity. Where Faryn took to her duties in the weyr well, with both due respect and exceeding capability, she nevertheless was eventually persuaded to Stand after being Searched, first by Quinlys' Olveraeth and then by K'zin and Rasavyth. And ultimately, she failed to Impress. Being left Standing left Faryn confused, with shaken confidence and very directionless. As her friends moved into weyrlinghood with their new lifemates, she remained a wildly spinning compass, unable to determine a path for her future, except the vagary of wanting to do something different, something useful and something better than her work in the stables.

...under construction, shh.
