| Rasavyth's Ledge, High Reaches Weyr What a spectacular weyr! Its large ledge boasts a pair of perfect hollows, room enough for a pair of bronzes, and just inside the entrance are a series of shelves cut into the stone, ideal for displaying small knickknacks and keeping everything organized. Artful Artifice Weyr, High Reaches Weyr The exterior curtain shields the pair of dragon wallows from the elements, but it's really after the interior curtain set just behind them that things become more human-friendly. The entryway narrows to what would still be wide by people standards, but narrow enough to disabuse any dragon of the notion of trying to fit inside, then the cavern bubbles open into a fairly massive main cavern. Almost opposite the entrance is a pair of doors nearly side-by-side leading to back rooms, but in between there's space. Spacious might be an understatement here. To the right of the entrance the curved wall provides space for a very large table whose matching chairs can seat up to twelve. It's reminiscent of the council chambers, really, and the backdrop on the wall dotted with low cabinets behind it is covered in a to-scale rendering of a map of Pern. A map of High Reaches sweep and the Weyr's badge get a close-up on a mural to the immediate left of the entrance . A broad hearth interrupts and separates the second half of the expansive curved wall from the first, and the latter shows the greatest display of artistry in a mural of a hazy night sky dotted with stars. Closer inspection might lead one to find that the stars might be used as hand-holds if one were inclined to climb.
« Like what? » The list was already scrolling through K'zin's mind the moment he made the demand; they'd already had this conversation so the list was like the rub of the workout mat on an already mat-burnt elbow. « You know why I'm doing this. » « A party to end all parties, » Rasavyth intoned dramatically, « One to make up for all the parties he took from you. You don't think you're acting a wee bit rash, my K'zin? » The bronze already knew the answer. The man did too. Of course, it was rash. Of course, it was stupid. But the arrangements were made. Harpers for music, commissioned food from BakerCraft, booze from Vintner, K'zin had even been putting up the festive decorations in the form of decoratively tattered lengths of fabric hanging from the ceiling, glows obscured with cloth that changed the color of the room to a red glow instead of the usual golden one. For all that Rasavyth was still on him about the party, they both knew it was too late. Rumor had spread, it was the day of. K'zin had the food, the drinks, everything. He'd arranged transport for his friends from outside the Weyr, of which there were many. If not all friends, well... acquaintances. Food and drink were spread between the long grand lacquered table and the cabinets beneath the mural. He'd removed anything interesting from the cabinets, made sure he serviced the locks on the doors to the private rooms, and the new hearth he'd commissioned with the rest of his inheritance was finished, ready to warm the big cavern if the night took a cool chill. Now, he just had to wait for sundown.
That's right, you heard the rumors! K'zin's 20th Turnday is to be a rager of a party. He has the 'party weyr' after all, which has never any use until now. As it happens, K'zin's turnday (day 20, month 8) falls on the RL date of December 26, 2013. Terrible timing, but! This is what's happening ICly. So from now until after the holidays, feel free to treat K'zin's weyr (Artful Artifice Weyr @tel #1946) as a Public Play area to forward-date or back-date scenes if you want to get in party-time scenes. K'zin will actually only be at his own party for a little while at the very beginning, after that it will be a couple of other Taiga wingriders playing host and holding down the fort making sure nothing gets too out of hand. The doors to the private rooms will stay locked (if you have plans for otherwise, talk to me, please!), but otherwise the atmosphere is party-hardy and it's pretty unbelievable that K'zin even knows this many people (which is to say he doesn't, but a good party draws a crowd). There's Harpers for dancing, plenty of quality food and drink staged on the large table and on the cabinets. Expect the feel of a college party/rave, though with enough older-ish guests to temper things just a little. It's safe to assume there are always at least 30 other guests there in any given scene. Noise, movement, laughter, chaos, etc. Questions or comments, toss 'em at me. Here's a link to the general layout of K'zin's weyr (I'm not an artist even if he is). The most notable features are the giant murals on the walls. The story goes that once they were a lot more erotic, but in the time since K'zin has moved in, there's a giant to-scale map of Pern on one wall, and the two other walls, separated by the hearth bear a mural of High Reaches sweep (also to scale) with an artistic rendering of a HRW badge, and a starry night sky. Upon closer inspection, the stars look like they could be hand-holds, except they start too far up for anyone to easily grab ahold of, with a boost... maybe! But anyone caught climbing will be discouraged by the Taiga stand-in hosts for safety reasons. P.S. Weyrlings are welcome to attend, but they know who you are. No getting drunk on Taiga's watch. And notably for those young weyrlings, you'll be some of the youngest at the shindig. This isn't a party for 'kids'. The youngest guests (besides you) start about 17 and get older from there. |
