| Their first night went by in a tense silence. To look upon the pair from afar would show dragon and teen encircled amongst each other with foreheads pressed together and legs and limbs entwined. The black of Neianth partially overlays the white of Keysi's still-dawned candidates' robe in a semblance of yin and yang. A peacefulness, a balance. A facade. An illusion masking the exhaustive turmoil within them both. His questions are nearly exclusively about her. Not the world, for that's not what mattered in the here and now. His consciousness flows too-easily amidst her own, no corner left untouched, un-invaded; testing her every sensitivity, her every fear, her every vice. One once so guarded now has every bit of her soul exposed, flayed open to an alien mind so different yet so like her own. It makes her dizzy. It makes her sick. It challenges her like nothing else could. She can hide nothing. And although Neianth can't understand why those pockets of images and feelings and memories make her heart start racing and her muscles tense, it doesn't matter. Towards the challenge, towards the struggle, he pushes her for he is here now. And the weight of his presence wraps around her, heavy and commanding- she cannot turn back now nor ever again- yet also is utterly and perfectly serene with soul-warming mists among lofty mountains. A temple of sanctuary perched amongst the heavens. Eventually, sleep would take them both. In her dreams, a green leaf sits alone within a background of darkness. A single droplet of dew rolls down its vein, hesitating at the end before falling into the emptiness. Falling into nothingness. There is that gut wrenching moment of uncertainty of being doomed to fall forever and being lost within that darkness. And it is in that moment that the drop hits the flawlessly still pool beneath. Ripples obscure the surface and agitate the reflection until it is thoroughly clear that the waters go on forever. The ripples travel further in endless, growing rings until it is distinctly and inarguably apparent that they are everywhere, that she is not alone. There is just a gentle touch of something soft and smooth on her cheek. It comes again one more time, the warmth of a moist breath crawling over her ear and the weight of something looming over her. Keysi mutters, eyes still closed as she starts to roll onto her other side. The pain comes sharp and quick, like the rap of a wooden staff struck over her head. The girl sits straight up, the sheets flying off of her as she clutches the top of her head with a hiss through her teeth and grey eyes wide in sleep-delirious fury. But the throbbing of her head echoes deeper in her mind as no true trauma could, and no sooner dissolves wholly and completely then to be replaced by an all-encompassing commanding baritone that won't take no for an answer. « The day of a warrior starts early. Up, we begin now. Together. » |
