>---< Southern Beach (TP Room - HRW) >---------------------------------------<
Golden stand stretches in both directions for as far as the eye can see,
broken only by the occasional encroaching cliff, the ancient stone formed
into rockpools and outcroppings. Inland, open sand is gradually taken over
by lush greenery: dense forest extending all the way back to distant
mountains that might even be days of walking from here. The ocean, too,
stretches out unbroken: there's no other land to be seen, nothing but blue
and blue and blue until the point at which it hits the horizon, where blue
meets another kind of blue, in the endless, cloudless sky.
A tent-like structure has been strung up between trees and a few tall
posts, providing shelter from the hot sun. There are no tables, and no
chairs, beneath it, however: just a few haphazardly slung blankets,
providing only the most basic comfort. A few paces beyond the edge of the
tent is a bonfire built from driftwood.
The water is shallow, here, protected by a sandbar a few lengths out.

>-----------------------------------------< 6D 12M 39T I10, winter night >---< While the weather isn't quite arctic yet in the Reaches, it could be a need for a change of scenery that has Edyis inviting Alida south for their usual sparring session. Akluseth already out and sunning himself in the waters nearby, Flicker perched on his chin eyeing the water curiously. The brownrider is some distance away, with a basket and a blanket and lots of sunlight. Away from 'Reaches and in the warmth and sunlight is lure enough for Alida, the blonde more mentally wearied than usual from dealing with the plague, her duties, and other things weighing on her mind for awhile. Not long after the invitation was sent, Ilicaeth emerges from Between not far above the beach, the blue offering Akluseth a warm warble of greetings as he rides the buoyant air currents down. A couple more minutes have the elder dragon flopping down near the brown - sans riding gear - as Pyrite swirls over to greet her green daughter with affectionate chirples and head rubs. And Alida? She's soon depositing Ilicaeth's gear not far from Edyis, then stripping down to her lightest workout clothing, then tossing aside her heavier gear upon a splayed-open towel. Sucking in a deep, sustaining breath, the bluie murmurs to her buddy, "Wha'da'ya' say we ditch 'Reaches an' hole up with Ali 'n company for a Turn?" "If I didn't think it would put Jo or Mielline out, I would take you up on that idea." The brownrider notes through a cracked eyelid, fixing the bluerider in her gaze. "I think I missed my chance to transfer though, the spires will have her claws in me until the day I die." It's almost regretful, that tone. Flicker's chimelike chittering is more than enough greeting, but affection is always met with affection, and Akluseth tolerates the pair with a deep rumble of annoyance. Ilicaeth gets a warmer welcome than the lizards do at least. "Meh..." is all Alida can come up with to Edyis' words of letting down her 'second and 'leader, the bluie's mouth contracting into a small, twistly little moue at the second statement. She looks as regretful, for a moment, as the brownrider sounds. While their dragons greet and buddy up in their usual fashion, while their flits also share pleasureable down time together, 'lida finds herself greeting this upcoming spar with less enthusiasm than is her wont, though she girds herself properly, no matter. Perhaps out of nowhere comes her grunt of, "Fucking 'Reaches." "What's eating at you." Both question and command as the brownrider sit up, shaking a hand through dark curls as she sets to tieing them up. It's probably blunter than her usual attempts at figuring out what's bothering her blue riding friend, but no less warm for it. "I thought you were settling into the business of the dragon infirmary nicely, or were my informants wrong?" Starting the stretching process. Stretching...yeah. Alida seemed ready to forego that usual process, but takes it up when Edyis does. There's a small shake of her plaited head for the other woman's inquiry, but the rest of the brownie's words have the blonde grunting through her stretches, "Dunno. Maybe I'm restless. S'what Ilicaeth thinks, anyway." A slightly keen look is flicked over one shoulder to Edyis. "Still a lifelong member uv' Savannah, too." Informants and spies that they all were. Smirk. Edyis snorts at mention of Savannah, "The Savannah I knew, might well be gone forever." Still there's something elusive in the undertone of the words, something that still lingers out of loyalty or perhaps even defiance. "Not that I don't try to keep sharp the things I learned, but it's not quite the same thing in Snowdrift, and I'm not sure how to approach Mielline on the subject. The current political situation could use a few good eyes and ears, though I doubt mine will ever serve in such a manner again." The brownrider rolls her shoulders, as she finishes up the stretches, quiet on the subject of restlessness. "Glacier doesn't suit anymore?" Curious, suspicious even the last question hangs as the younger woman draws herself up and looks nominally ready to start. Alida's expression turns immediately dark, her green eyes focused on the past for a few long moments...her pale head bobbing once in mute acknowledgement of 'their' Savannah being only a memory. She turns outward again, however, at Ed's words of herself not functioning in such a manner again, the blonde's stretching stopped so she can turn her gaze more pointedly to the other woman while murmuring, "Never say never. Nor 'ever.'" Sigh. "Might wanna go ta Jo with that idea, then." Snowdrift multi-purposing as a new 'infiltration' wing? Edyis' word of Glacier, however, earns her a derisive little snort. "Glacier'll always be 'home.' She sound unshakable in her faith...though something thoughtful lies behind green eyes. Edyis tilts her face to the sunlight even as she feels those green eyes on her. "I'm not counting on anything anymore, fewer disappointments that way, doesn't mean I'm giving up, Alida." The words drawing the smallest trace of a smirk, as her attention is drawn back to the thoughtful bluerider. "Change isn't always a bad thing, kind of like pruning a plant, sometimes you have to loose something in order to grow." There's a lift of her hand to her neck and a small shake of her head, "And I sound like a dusty old harper, you better take a swing at me before I revert to an antisocial bookworm." She's still young enough to (mostly) agree with Edyis' take on life, Alida grunting softly, nodding once on the other woman's way of handling disappointments. "Yeah... so I seem ta be learnin'." About change: often unsettling, sometimes breathtaking. A significant look is lifted out towards the now-lolling Ilicaeth before Ed's motions have her looking back at the not-Scribe once again. "Yer entitled..." To sounding dusty. The lattermost of the brownrider's words, however, see a sudden burst of nothing but action from the bluie...Alida's body rolling along its short axis towards (the not far away) Ed, pale-skinned legs seeking to kick the darker-skinned woman's legs out from under her, if she's not fast and steady. Apparently the bluerider feels confident enough in her former pupil to not hold back much, anymore...and so goes the rest of their spar. Edyis smirks a little, at the blue rider's statement of learning, but anything else she had to say gets lost in the sudden swing at her feet, catching her off guard enough to let loose a curse on the air. By the end, there may be no definite winner, but their friendship might be the stronger for it. |
