Waiting for a reply was painful. Oh, Pia buried herself in her work (she always did), but it was a struggle in this moments she paused to think; those moments she hesitated over something, and remembered wait she was waiting for. The possibilities hadn't fully sunk in, in a way, except that this, she was sure, was a turning point. One way or another.

The letter was waiting for her after a quick jaunt out down the coastline with a couple of the apprentices-- apprentices who were not wholly enthused about keeping the boat steady as she worked. She'd done this bit before, but not as well as she would like, and it seemed extra important, now, to have done everything she could before she... left? Would she be leaving?

But there was the letter.

Journeyman Pia,

Your enthusiasm, as always, is boundless and after conferring, Aramio and I have come to the same conclusion, that this combination of dragonriding with your particular specialty in our craft has merits. While we hesitate to lose a crafter of your caliber and, (you can almost hear the pause here as the comma's curve extends a little longer and darker than it should, almost as if the pen were resting, trying to figure out what exactly to say next) your enthusiasm for squiggly lines.

So, yes. YES, our answer is an unequivocal yes that you should pursue this literal journey where it takes you. We will be in touch with the Weyrleadership at High Reaches, and perhaps the rest of Pern, to discuss these exciting possibilities.

She literally jumped for joy. To the Weyr! She was going to the Weyr! She was... was she going to be a dragonrider? Oh, but how could a person even think about these things without wanting to yell them at the sky, dance, and maybe whoop for joy. A few times. A dozen times. As many as it took!

She waited until the next day to write her replies. It seemed... well. Even she had the sense to know she was not in the right frame of mind for writing.

Dear sirs, Thank you! Thank you, and thank you again! I'll do you and the craft proud, I promise, in whatever happens.

Dear Edyis,

My Masters said yes! They're sending word to the Weyr and all will be arranged! I'll be there as soon as everything is ready, and my own loose ends here are tied up. Give Akluseth a kiss for me!

Pia

Kisses are nice, but I Would prefer a good oiling and scratches.
