| Living Cavern, Fort Weyr Fort's enormous living cavern is a vast, echoing space, with deep set windows carved into the outer wall to let in light and fresh air. Large enough to house the entire human population of the Weyr with plenty of room to spare, the most common use of the living cavern is as a communal eating and gathering space. Long tables with benches usually line the main part of the cavern with a four-seater table set aside for the Weyrleaders as well as other smaller tables set along the walls for quieter dining. Tapestries depicting historic moments in the Weyr's history and scenery from the coverage area decorate the walls and lend the space a warmer feel than bare stone. To the east, a large doorway leads out to the bowl, with a sturdy metal door that can be closed during inclement weather or Threadfall. The nighthearth is tucked away in a little alcove near the door. The large main hearth is used for cooking and for heat, sharing a wall with the kitchen's big hearths and banks of ovens. Chairs are often pulled up by the hearth for the Weyr's elderly to enjoy the heat. A swinging door allows easy passage back and forth between the caverns and the kitchen. To the west, a passage opens up into the Weyr's inner caverns. He's in here for a quick bit of food between weyrling duties to sustain his still growing form. B'rant's sitting as unobtrusitvely as possible at a short bench by himself, stuffing what looks like a ham and cheese sandwich into his mouth, followed by wetting sips of klah. The teen looks a little tired, and a little withdrawn, sullen. And N'ky's in here on a fly-by hope that he might find the tall teenager he's been looking for for a while. Lo and behold, there he is! It's nigh on impossible not to see someone so tall, and the Reaches greenrider weaves his way across the cavern toward the lonesome bronzer. "B'rant? You a-are B'rant, aren't you? Rhenth's?" The way that the bronzling looks up at the sound of his name suggests him steeling himself for something. But when he sees the vaguely recognizable face of N'ky...B'rant looks down suddenly again, though his baritone notes, "Yes. Can I help you, Sir?" N'ky blinks down at the taller teenager, confused when he's called 'sir', of all things. "N'ky," he corrects, frowning uncomfortably; no-one's ever called him that. His natural caution is emphasised at the sight of the bronzerider's expression though, and he tries to force a comforting smile. "I-I've been looking for you. I, um... I w-wanted to apologise, for what Cailluneth did to Rhenth. I'm s-sorry, and she was very sorry when I told her... I h-hope he's ok?" "Yes, S... N'ky." There's a faint hint of a blush touching the edges of B'rant's cheeks, but he'll not let embarrassment stop him, the weyrling slipping into his 'lord' persona as easily as one slips on a coat. "It's alright. He's recovered...and barely even remembers the... event." A faint wince happens when he uses that word. Gray eyes meet browns for a few moments as the young man notes mellowly, "Thank you for coming here to inquire." "O-oh, good. That's good. We're p-pleased to hear it... that's really good." N'ky's nerves make way for a big, warm smile, and he drops his chin to his chest in an attempt to hide it a little. The greenrider peeps up at B'rant from behind the curtain of his cocoa curls after a moment of silence. "You're welcome. We did come e-earlier, I spoke to E'ten, the dragonhealer? He thought I was referring to you and Rhenth, but he wasn't sure, a-and I've been so busy since the flight and now that I've only been able to c-come in my spare time, so... I'm g-glad I found you today, B'rant. And I'm glad everything's ok. And, um... wh-whatever it is that's bugging you, it'll be ok. It n-nearly always ends up being ok!" It's his attempt to be reassuring, as he looks over to eye the exit out to the bowl. "I'm a-almost back on sweeps, so I'll, um, h-have to go." N'ky's nerves seem to paradoxically make B'rant even more at ease, the towering weyrling lifting his gaze from his food again to nod a few times to the greenrider, his own lips taking on a small, winning smile at news of the 'Reachian's kindness. "Rhenth says thank you vrey much for going out of your way to apologize. We're both...surprised that someone would do such for a minor injury during a Flight." Is that a little hint of huff tucked just behind his voice? If so, it's not likely directed at N'ky, given B'rant's looking out towards the Weyrleader's complex for a moment. Ah, but back to the present! "Have a good day, S...N'ky. Please give Cailluneth our duties." A small, lax salute for the full rider is offered, plus another small smile. N'ky frowns softly, then shrugs his shoulders. "I th-think we owed you as much of an apology as we did April and Darcielth," he says quietly, with a slightly crooked smile. "We're just glad he's healed and well. A-and I'll pass your duties to her - s-same to Rhenth, of course." The little salute is returned with a playful one and a wink, before the greenrider turns to trot out to the bowl, feeling less guilty as he heads back to work. |
