Living Cavern, High Reaches Weyr

Stalactites hang high above this enormous cavern like a jagged chandelier or an inversion of the Spires themselves, but shadows cling to them instead of light. Below lie great tables arranged in rows, each large enough to serve a fighting wing, while in the nooks and alcoves around the cavern's edge sit more sensibly-sized tables, from six- and eight-seaters down to intimate spots for just a couple of diners. The only really open space is around the kitchen entrance, smelling of food and rarely quiet, and by the nearby serving tables with their long buffet of the day's offerings.

Tapestries on the smooth walls -- some faded and others newly woven -- only slightly mute the sea of sound when a meal is in full swing, but they add cheerfulness augmented by the glowlight from wall sconces and the centerpieces of each table. Still, shadows always creep along the ceiling and into the mouths of the exits -- the myriad small hallways at one end of the cavern and, at the other, the twisting tunnel to the bowl near an array of coathooks and and hatracks -- and late at night, when the glows are allowed to dim, the chamber can seem very dark indeed.

Lansha looks up from a hide he's studying when Aishani enters. He smiles and waves to her. "Good morning, weyrwoman."

It is morning, and a nice enough one -- no snow -- so that might be reason enough for Aishani's decent mood when she comes in from the bowl, jacket wrapped around her. As she pauses to loosen it, she catches Lansha's greeting and arches fine brows, looks at the knot on her shoulder. With a shrug, "It's morning, at least. I don't know you." She's not surprised he knows her. Doesn't everyone?

Lansha shakes his head, still smiling. "Of course not, why would you? I'm Lansha. Pleased to meet you. Sorry to be so familiar, but the harpers sorta made it a point for us to know who all the goldriders are."

With a quirk of lips, "'Weyrwoman' isn't all that familiar. Nor is it really... Well. Never mind." Aishani might have explained, but something causes her not to bother; she just gives a wave of her hand. "Did the harpers make a point of that? Did they make a point of telling you which goldrider was the thief and liar, or do they leave you to figure out that one on your own?" She's not accusatory, just curious. "Lansha. What do you do here, Lansha?"

Lansha blinks a bit at that. "Oh, um, well, this and that, you know. I'm Tajent's assistant, so I guess that makes me the assistant to the assistant of the headwoman. Which mostly means that I do all the things that they're too busy for. Taking inventory, reorganizing stocks and records, that sort of thing. Plus I help out around the caverns and the kitchens, whatever needs doing."

Aishani tilts her head to the side as she shrugs off her jacket, folding it over her arm. "Not a gossip?" she guesses. "Assistant to the assistant. I have to wonder how busy they both are if you can do things that are actually their duties, but... it's not really my job to worry about it." More to the point, she doesn't make it her job. "Has anything interesting needed doing lately? And how are you feeling about the stores situation?"

Lansha grins. "Well, that depends on your definition of 'interesting.'" Then he remembers he's talking to a weyrwoman and straightens up a bit in his chair. "I was just doing inventory there yesterday and everything looks to be in order. We're a bit low on needlethorns, but otherwise stocks are full."

With another arch of those fine brows, "Do tell." Aishani seems interested, at least, regardless of her status of goldrider. A bit bemused, "I assume you mean, full given the circumstances? We've been short for some time, and the full tithes haven't come in yet. Though I'm glad to hear there's still regular inventory." A pause. "Perhaps I'll take a walk around tonight." There's rumors that's what she does, lurks around the storerooms at night, probably planning to hide stolen goods or something equally nefarious. Blood is blood.

Lansha says, "Well, yes. I mean, I haven't been on the job long, so I'm not familiar with the normal levels. I suppose it will do until the rest of the tithes come in, though." He rolls up the hide he was studying and stands. "I was going to get something to eat, ma'am, would you like anything?""

Dryly, "It will, but it would be nice to have a bit of variety in our meals, would it not? At least there's always fruit." Aishani's dark gaze flickers over to the hide Lansha's rolling up, curious. "Anything interesting? And no, I'm not in the mood for stew, but I'll come along for some klah. Are you from here, then?"

Lansha shrugs and pushes the hide to the side of the table, "No, just records from the inventory. Didn't want to spill anything on it. How do you take your klah?"

"Black. And I can come with you, it's not necessary to bring it to me." Aishani is, after all, standing. Sliding hands into pockets, she asks again, head canting, "Are you from here? The Weyr, I mean."

Lansha says, "Oh, sorry. Yes, I was born here. My parents are riders, Greenrider L'drel and Bluerider Shani." He wanders over to the serving tables and picks up a meatroll and a mug of klah for himself.

As she walks over to the tables as well, Aishani has something of a soft surprised sound. "I didn't know of another Shani. Always something new, I suppose." She finds a mug and pours out her own klah, holding the mug in her jacketed arm, eyeing the young man bemusedly. "Well, I've a few people to speak to in the caverns. I hope you have a good morning." She offers something of a lazy salute before starting off, deeper into the tunnels.

Lansha smiles cheerily and nods. "Yes, it's similar, but just Shani, not Aishani. Thank you, weyrwoman, you as well." With his hands full, he can't return the salute, so he raises his mug of klah to her.
