| Weyrling Training Cavern, High Reaches Weyr(#392RJLs) All the furniture here has been pushed to one side of the room to allow a large pathway opposite: room enough to let weyrling dragons pass from the bowl's archway to the cavernous barracks at the back. None of the furniture matches, either: it varies from big cushioned, claw-footed chairs to those of plain wood, while the most seating is at the two stone tables ringed by low and equally hard stone benches. Without the tapestries that decorate many of the Weyr's other interior spaces, the room always echoes with noise, no matter how few are there. What it does have, however, are several colorful murals: on one wall, a detailed diagram of a dragon's anatomy; opposite, next to a creaky wooden door, a number of painted and labeled wing formations. Near the entrance is a large-scale version of the Weyr's badge, while the back wall, by the barracks, features a detailed map of the continent. The latter area's also home to one big, beat-up couch, black or maybe blue -- the thing's so old and filthy it's hard to tell, though it's certainly comfortable. That one beaten up sofa the training cavern boasts has been dragged right across to the wall where there's a large map of the Northern continent. Sitting on it are both N'ky and Cailluneth, the green just small enough to still fit comfortably enough, with her forequarters draped over her weyrling's legs. He strokes her absently while staring at the map, lips occasionally moving as he sounds out locations - studying, perhaps. For no good reason other than to just be somewhere else for a change, E'sren wanders into the cavern N'ky and Cailluneth currently occupy, with Ahruth tagging along at his side like a faithful dog. A really bright blue dog with wings. Once he sees his sister, even if he might have sensed her mental presence in the room before entering, he perks up and lifts his wings, trotting over to her to say hello with a lilting murmury dragon sound. "Hey N'ky," the human half greets, hands in his pockets as he approaches the couch. "Studying?" Cailluneth croons raspily to welcome Ahruth, raising her head from the sofa arm to stretch towards him, wuffling soft breath and seeking to breathe in his scent. Hello, there! N'ky's greeting for E'sren is a little distracted, though not in any way cold; he holds up his hand to wave without looking, until he's got that last little bit memorised. Then he turns a crooked smile to his fellow weyrling. "Yep." A nod of his head as he relaxes back against the sofa. "Learning all the p-places. Um... do you w-want to sit? Cai will get down, if you do." "Oh, nah, she can stay, here." There's a chair on the way, sort of, E'sren just has to backstep once, twice, to snag it and pull it across the floor to whichever arm of the couch N'ky's closest to. When he sits it's with an elbow propped up and his leg folded atop his knee. Ahruth, during this, is returning that welcoming whuff with something like it of his own, even going so far as to gently bump noses with her, which seems to prompt the little splat of neon green against the walls of their shared mental space. "How've the exams been for you so far?" Nose-bumping is exactly what Cailluneth was hoping for, and she takes that neon, exploding it into a welcoming burst of twinkling green stars. Her mental presence remains, though her physical one withdraws; she cranes her neck around to rest her chin on N'ky's shoulder, curling closer against him. That does kind of block the green weyrling's view of Chase, but he leans foward a little to try and look around his lifemate. "N-not so great. Um... Kae and Waki've been t-tutoring me in arithmetic, but I'm just not s-so good. My b-brain doesn't like numbers. The others... th-they're ok. H-history sucks. How about for you?" Ahruth, delighted, gives her a guttural appreciation of that visual, then withdraws as well. Not to his lifemate, no, but to different parts of the room. To sniff, to poke, to rummage. Push that chair, chew that cushion to see what that's like, then over to the wall hanging, the one of the dragon anatomy. He gazes up at it, little head tilted, and fans out one of his wings to compare it to the one shown. Meanwhile, "Oh yeah, math is hard for me too. I think I'm doing okay, but yeah I have some areas I'm struggling with. I'm trying to cram it all in, I've been studying every chance I get. You'll get there, man. Do you think I could help with any of it?" N'ky wrinkles his nose, stroking gently over his lifemate's head and persuading her to lower it, so that he can actually see the person he's talking to. "I think maths should be, um, j-just for h-headwomen and weyrwomen and p-people who need it all the time. There's, um, a-always someone who can work things out f-for you." He shrugs, rubbing at the base of Cailluneth's headknobs absently. As for the offer of help? He smiles crookedly. "H-how's your history? I'm ok at geography, b-but m-maybe we could work together on the whens of what's happened?" E'sren laughs, grinning, his eyes squinted. "You're right, leave the math to the people who count things. If it's past ten I'm not doing it, call someone else." Presumably because that just so happens to be how many fingers he has. As for whether or not he's good with history, his reply is delayed a moment by his rubbing his chin and thinking about it. "History's good. I'm doing good with that. I can help with that stuff for sure. I've got geography down, which is crazy since I've never left this area. I like maps." "I like maps, too - it's n-nice to know where everywhere is, e-even if you don't go there." N'ky grins, resting his elbow on the chair's arm, and propping his chin up in it. "W-we had lots of traders come through our home. Um... I used to p-put a pin in our map at home, to show w-where they'd been. They went so far." There's a whole lot of awe in those two words; the green weyrling perhaps hasn't travelled as much. "D-did you hear that Sabs wants to g-go travelling, soon's she can? Um... w-we were talking about going to Ista. B-bar-hopping, I think. Will you come?" "Yeah, exactly. Like you can look at it and suddenly you're not so alone. Things aren't so overwhelming when you look at the whole world stretched out right in front of you, like you're above it somehow." He makes a hand gesture to encompass the world there, in front of him, in a small space. "I'm so excited to fly, man," he admits, grinning again. "And yeah, I'd love to go. Soon as we can," agrees E'sren on the timing. "We can hit up all the bars all over, just ask the locals where they go and go there. We're gonna be able to go wherever we want like that." Snap. "Um... I d-don't really drink, so I'll p-probably only make it to one bar." N'ky chuckles, curling Cailluneth closer to him by looping his arm over her forequarters and pulling her in tight. They're clearly still super-cosy. "But it'll be fun. I want to see a b-beach... and Ista's beaches are black." Which is like whoooa, weird - or so his tone suggests. Cailluneth squirms, lifting her head and wriggling free of the hold to drop down onto the floor, where she sits, looking meaningfully at N'ky. "Oh," the weyrling says, looking down at her. "Um... sh-she needs to, um... go," he explains to E'sren, while his dragonet trots a few graceful steps towards the barracks, then pauses, creeling towards N'ky. "Hey, um... w-we can talk history later?" "Oh, I didn't mean it like that. I don't drink either. But bars are just... crazy and unexpected. I think they're fun. Seeing the sights would be awesome too though. Those beaches." Which he's also never seen, and he looks just as into the idea of going for that experience as for any other, though his smile fades when Cailluneth starts to need things from her rider until he realizes it's not an emergency. "Oh, yeah, totally. Whenever's good. We'll figure it out. Lemme know if you need help with anything else, too, okay?" Even if N'ky is on his way out. E'sren isn't, but he does get to his feet to walk, hands in pockets, over to where Ahruth is still staring, fixated, up at that tapestry on the wall. |
