Candidate Camp Out - Day 2
RL Date: 15 June, 2013
Who: Dal, Denali, E'ten, Elise, Oreithiya, Razi, Reesa, K'varl
Involves: Fort Weyr
Type: Log
What: Reesa takes the candidates hunting. Dal is injured during the hunt, and there's unfortunate news for Razi.
Where: Southern Continent
When: Day 25, Month 13, Turn 31 (Interval 10)

The last couple of days at the Southern camp has involved chores (of course), but also more interesting things - walks through the nearby jungle, helping out with dragon washing, and perhaps most interesting of all, practice with weapons. Given the option to use bow and arrow, or spears, the candidates have been given time to get used to their chosen weapon. Today is the hunt - and even the riders are excited, chattering in a nearby group as the dragons circle overhead. Reesa breaks from the group of riders and walks over to where the candidates are gathered. "All ready? Remember to stick close by one another - we don't want you getting lost in the jungle or accidentally shot."

Denali looks up from where she's bent over retying her left boot. There's a look of half interest and excitement on her face, perhaps it's the challenge of the hunting trip that's got her up and ready to go. At hand the girl has a bow and arrows, "It'd be hard to explain an arrow in the backside I suppose." she mumbles softly as she moves in closer to the rest of the group as they get ready to go.

Dal hefts his chosen spear experimentally, presently (and carefully) held more like a walking stick than a weapon; he's proven to have a good amount of force to put behind his throw, but a less-than-perfect aim to go with it. Today, he's calmer than plenty of the others, but seems pleased - in that non-smiling way of his - by Reesa's summons. "Ready," he confirms.

Serah's guidance over the past however long has served Oreithiya well when she chooses the bow and arrows. Her arrows strike true most of the time now, and while she's no natural talent at killing, she's not half-bad from all the practice she's been working for since the first time she asked for her former Candidate's help. Excitement palpable; Rei's got her hair wound up in braids that keep the dark tresses held back and has donned her work clothes. "I'm ready," she affirms, coal-black eyes glinting with anticipation. To the others assembled, she shares this anticipation.

Is Elise the only one who has a spear? Oh no, there's Dal. She's probably only moderately less uncomfortable holding that than she would be a bow, and seems hyper-aware of the people around her, like she needs to be super sure she isn't going to accidentally impale anyone. She's dressed for the warmth and for something like hunting, and waits for the next move.

Razi, too, has a spear, though he's standing on the far side of the group from Dal. His practice has shown him to be not the best with it, but far better (and less dangerous) than with the bow and arrows. He's casually leaning against the spear the way one might lounge against the wall, apparently having perfected his 'standing around looking cool' technique if perhaps not his actual killing things technique.

There's noise from the group of riders, and some break up to head towards their dragons - presumably to spot prey from the air - while others move ahead, and a couple more join the group of candidates. "All right. Follow me," Reesa tells the candidates, leading the way through into the jungle. Almost immediately the leaves press in, giving a feeling of claustrophobia, which is likely not helped by the fact that the heat is all but oppressive. At least the greenrider's forgone her usual dress for lightweight pants, this time.

Dal aims a quietly disapproving glance - or is it just uncertain? - in Razi's direction, through all the other candidates, but /now/ is not the time for being distracted by that; hastily, he lengthens his stride to fall in alongside his fellow candidates, marching towards the hunt. He keeps his distance from that /particular/ candidate and says, instead, in a low voice, "No accidents, right?"

Denali glances around, trying to shift the bow and arrow into a position that hides how uncomfortable she feels with them in hand. "If there is it'd be might fault." she offers to Dal as she steps forward and ends up within a foot or so of the other candidate, "I'd be more at ease with a knife in hand than these." Step after step she trails along, keeping pace rather easily and night minding the vegetation smacking at her.

As greenery presses inward, Oreithiya's eyes are wide, taking in the jungle that holds the mysteries of shadows and the cats that lurk within. Her fingers twitch against the bow, itching for something she doesn't have as the beastcrafter keeps in careful line. Though by the slight vibration of excitement that clings to her posture, the girl could go off into the jungles if she were the risk-taking sort. "Accidents?" Rei seems to only just now clue into the conversation between the others. "I should hope we wouldn't have accidents..." She pushes some leafy greens away from her path, following the others like a good little Candidate.

"I don't think you'd want to get close to a feline with just a knife in hand," Razi's saying, gripping the spear tightly. The size of it means it gets caught on some of those jungle leaves as they go, making progress difficult. /He's/ doing his best to ignore Dal's looks.

Follow Reesa! Elise can do that! She moves out to follow along, instantly regretting everything she's ever done up to this point once the heat sets in, and the leaves, and... She barely hears Dal, but she does hear him, and her reply is at first a sly smirk. "Of course not." With this group? Psh! She lifts a hand to push aside a leafy branch and with the same pushes hair out of her eyes. "Hot," she comments, taking light, careful steps.

Abruptly, Reesa stops dead, glancing upwards as a couple of dragons pass overhead. "This way," she says, speeding up her pace. She's hurrying, now, excited - throwing over her shoulder, "They think they've seen a feline down by the next mountain. Come on. Get your weapons ready."

"Too hot," is Dal's remark, one he's made a couple of times over the past few days: he wilts pretty easily. "I don't think I'll mind getting back to proper winter-- /oh/." Reesa's abruptly increased pace has the oldest (or close enough to) of the candidates hastening his own stride in turn. He adjusts the spear in his grip, palm sweaty, and sets his jaw. Razi is, for now, entirely forgotten.

Denali looks up and seems to be about ready to say something when she trips over something in the ground and falls to her knees, "Shells and shards." she softly snarled as pushes herself upward and regains her feet. "If you think this is hot, wait til you are standing out there on the sands." she grumps towards Dal, "You'll wilt faster then a jungle bloom." Not bothering to brush leaves and dirt off her pantlegs, Denali catches up with the main part of the group and falls silent as Reesa gives orders.

"A touch cooler would be nice," Oreithiya comments, in agreement with the statements of how hot it is. "But still, this is exciting," the girl shoots a quick look to Elise and Dal, before stepping more quickly as Reesa declares they think they've spotted a feline. Conflict flickers briefly on the girl's expression, however, even as she moves with the group. Denali's statement gets her full attention then. "Those sands could cook the bottom of your feet." This would be agreement.

A feline? Those are big right? Elise swallows, glances from Razi to Dal, they're behaving right? Yeah, she hasn't forgotten. And uses longer strides to keep up with the pack of hunters. Her hands tighten around the spear, knuckles white, and she swats at some bitey insect or something. Her hair has begun melting down around her face from that bun. "I suppose this could be good practice," she mentions, on topic a little bit with the hatching.

Razi looks, well... less and less confident the further they walk. He's starting to lag behind, and one might well suspect it's almost deliberate, the way his hand grips the spear with white-knuckled intensity. He's sweating, too, but doesn't seem quite as bothered about the heat, and when Elise glances in his direction, he gives her his most innocent looking expression. Yeah, behaving.

The jungle starts to thin a bit, and ahead of them, Reesa slows down as it starts to open up into a rocky ridgeline that rises in front. It looks like there's the opening of some sort of cave system, and as they emerge, the shadow of a blue circles over them. Moments later, the greenrider's head turns and she lifts to point - there, sunning on the rocks nearby, oblivious to their presence, is a dozing feline. "Circle around," she hisses at the candidates. "Don't let it escape into the cave."

Dal's answer to Denali (and Oreithiya) is cheerful enough (for him), despite the flicker of something else that briefly crosses his expression: "I'm told hatchings go quickly, at least. With any luck, I'll be safely off the sands before there's any chance of mishap." He manages to say that before Reesa's hissed whisper; at that point, his mouth clamps shut, as he draws himself into position - all serious intent.

Denali rubs a grubby sleeved arm across her forehead and down her face before moving into position with the others. Her mouth opens as if she's ready to speak but quickly enough she slaps it shut, headng turning now and then as she notes where everyone else is along with where the feline is.

Elise doesn't fully buy it, doubletaking at Razi's face and then narrowing her eyes. Riight. She doesn't actually say it, but she's thinking it. And then Reesa is hissing at them, a lot like a feline, and she whips her head around to focus on what they're all surely seeing. A feline, just hanging out on a rock. She's never /seen/ that before, and she stares, stuck while the others probably follow orders. Until that is she realizes they are and joins them, side stepping around a strange branch there on the ground. The question she also isn't asking: what happens if it escapes into the cave?

Oreithiya's steps slow, possibly putting her in danger of being back of the bus with Razi, as they come to the open exposure and spy the dozing feline. She bites her bottom lip and seems almost like she's about to say something but Reesa's command isn't ignored. A quick glance up to the blue, and then the cave. "They do," Rei's comment is quietly stated with a flicker of a look to fellow Candidate. "They're over before you know it." Still her steps slow, gaze glued to the sleeping feline as if to capture every spare line and detail she can.

There's a shrug of shoulders from Razi and Elise's look, and then he's hissing and nudging her, like she hasn't noticed Reesa's warning. He looks a mixture of nervous and anticipatory, moving closer - slowly - to where the feline is.

Reesa's moving, too, towards that rocky ridgeline, with the obvious intent of blocking off any escape. She's glancing at the candidates, making sure they're in position before she mimes for those with the bows and arrows to take aim. Once everyone's in place, she signals them to fire, hefting her own spear in preparation to rush in.

Dal bites back /something/, a comment or an exclamation that he manages to avoid; Reesa's silent instructions have him following, adjusting his position until he's in what seems to /him/ to be a good spot: ready for action. His breath catches; for the moment, he might as well be on his own (except for that feline, of course). When Reesa's signal comes, he hefts that spear, and rushes in to action.

Denali knocks an arrow into the bow, steadying it but not looking as comfortable as others do with their choice of weapons. At the signal from Reesa though she lets her first arrow fly after some careful aiming, though as she lets it fly she notes others doing the same and rushing into action.

Elise nudges Razi back, shooting him a Look. And then she senses the moment of tension when Reesa signals the archers and reacts with all the muscle memory her short term of practice thus far has instilled in her. Her shoulder tenses, elbow cocked, her blue eyes dark and fierce suddenly. When the arrows start flying she leaps in for the rush, not at all clumsy and unsure /now/.

It's very possible that Razi holds back once everyone else rushes in. But then, everyone else is watching the feline, not him, right? And it's only a /slight/ delay, intended to make sure that by the time he's there with his spear, he's several steps behind everyone else.

Everyone's in position. Oreithiya's dark eyes are latched onto the feline, but she can't -- or doesn't -- avoid keeping tabs on the greenrider when Reesa gives the order, Rei draws her bow. As Razi rushes in, and then Dal and then the others do the same, she doesn't. One arrow flies free, though it comes no where close to the mark -- if anything, it'd more scare the feline than do any real damage. Frozen now, the beast craft freezes up, expression pained.

The first arrow - Denali's - goes wide, missing by a foot, but the feline is instantly alert and taut, a low hissing sound coming from the creature. That's about when the second arrow - Oreithiya's - impacts the ground near the creature's paws, and the hissing turns into a snarl. When the feline sees those with the spears starting to advance, it turns as if to flee - but finds Dal and Elise in her way. The feline's trapped, and not in the least happy about it, that snarling expression fierce and frightening - and beautiful in its own way, too. "Quick! Before it tries to attack!" Reesa's calling.

There's a flicker of something, maybe even fear, in Dal's expression when the feline moves in his and Elise's direction. But the tall candidate is also determined, and thrusts the pointy end of his spear straight at the creature, letting out a sound as he does so that even seems to surprise /him/; something akin to triumph. Or exhilaration. /Something/.

Charge! Elise is running full-tilt for that rock, for that feline, who from afar looked so... well, distant. And she's still charging up until a certain moment, when the feline turns to look at them, and she sees it... her, fully, for the first time. Beautiful is definitely a word for it. Suddenly she loses all of her steam and falters, her spear arm falling and then the spear dropping as she does everything she can to halt herself. Her boots skid on some moist earth or gravel, something, and her balance leaves her; this results in a bit of a trip and baseball slide towards the animal, where she comes to a stop on the ground not far from her. Dal's on his own!

Rei's arms try to draw up, but they're leaden and unconsciously her feet stumble her /backwards/ away from the soon-to-be killing. Guilt is what's on her face, watching the feline's fear and anger. "No..." she whispers, though it's more a whimper, torn between wanting to be brave and not wanting to kill. Which is what comes to the crux of the problem. Bow raises, but arrow doesn't fly immediately. When it does get let loosed, it will only come within range of the animal, not killing it. Possibly, driving it to freedom, if such existed? Then she can draw no more, arms dropping by her side. She stands alone where others would have gone forward.

When Razi reaches the feline, he doesn't know quite what to do. There's an obvious hesitancy about him which suggests he's not all that keen on spearing the creature but - as Dal takes aim, he relaxes. Everyone's okay... except, Elise trips, and he darts in from behind, thrusting his spear at the feline's side with a noteable wince.

The snarl of the feline becomes a yowl of pain as Dal's spear strikes the creature in the side. It starts to skitter back when Oreithiya's arrow lands nearby, and it turns as Razi's spear impacts it, collapsing to the rock. It's teeth are still bared, and there's a panting hiss audible enough to suggest whatever else, the creature is still very dangerous, even if it's severely injured.

Denali squeeks as her arrow goes wide, and she quickly knocks another one into place. All the noise and commotion has her turning her head this way and that, trying to figure out just where everyone is before she lets the next arrow go. A few stumbled steps forward and she stops, trying to get into position again but finding rushing bodies in her way. "Shards." is growled as she finally takes and lets another arrow fly, though her eyes squinch closed to block her sight should the arrow hit the feline or someone else in on the hunt.

"What are you doing? Hold, hold!" Reesa yells towards Denali as one of her arrows goes flying in Dal's direction. "Quick, finish off the feline!"

It's hard to know of Dal is aware of what's happened to Elise at first; as she slides towards the creature, however, he lets out a yell: "Elise, get /back/." /He/ will try and rush in with another thrust of his spear, throwing all of his weight into it. It's just /after/ the spear connects that Denali's arrow connects, digging itself right into his shoulder. Uh. Ow?

Oreithiya can stand it no more, her arms slack at her sides with fingers holding loosely onto the arrow. Dark eyes close the moment the feline yowls in pain, brows furrowing together. She back steps away from the grisly visage, involuntarily. Tucking away the arrow, the beastcrafter holds the bow to her chest, and jumps when Reesa yells to finish the animal off. When Denali's arrow strikes Dal's shoulder, she gasps and drops her bow. Whups. Gaze is averted from the feline however, and she still doesn't come /forward/.

It's more shock than satisfaction in Razi's gaze when his spear hits home, and he takes a couple of quick steps back as the feline hisses in his direction. He starts to raise his spear threateningly, just as Dal's hits home, and he holds his own to keep the feline at bay. He hasn't noticed the other candidate's injury, yet.

Denali drops her bow as Reesa's words come to late and the candidates eyes snap open and go over large in her face. During the chaos she's able to catch sight of her arrow as it comes down..down...down into Dal's shoulder. Now ashen faced the girl begins to shake her head, as if unable to believe that her late shot arrow actually hit one of the others. "I'm so s..sssorry." comes out as her hands slap against her mouth, tears now filling her eyes and slipping down her face leaving tracks in the sweat and dirt already clinging to her face.

Also wincing, but for different reasons, Elise begins to pick herself up from the ground only to realize how close she is now to the very angry feline. Her eyes widen and she lurches to the side on Dal's warning, rolling over in time to see Razi strike. She's stuck staring at that, then at Dal, and she can kind of only watch as first his spear maybe-finishes the job, and then the arrow finds home in his shoulder. She's scrambling to get to her feet then, /fast/.

There's a another yelp of pain from the feline, before it goes completely still, Dal's strike making the final blow.

"Shells," Reesa's muttering, even as dragons begin circling in from above, looking for spaces clear enough to land nearby. She's approaching the feline carefully, making sure it's dead, before she circles around towards Dal. "Lie down," she orders, even as she's rushing up to him. "Someone get something to staunch the bleeding." Not that there's anything particularly handy around here.

It's a good thing that the feline is dead, because, well, Dal is semi-crumpling to the ground himself, now, his knees buckling beneath him. His spear is abandoned; instead, he tries to reach around with his opposite arm and touch the arrow, though his fingers hover there instead of actually making contact. His face is... ashen, but at least he's still with it enough to acknowledge Reesa's words. Of course, lying down means doing so face down, but he does it, turning his head to the side so that he can look at the others, even so, however glassy-eyed.

Denali pats her pants, then digs inside her vest and pulls out a wrinkled, but fairly clean, rag. "I've got this Ma'am." comes out in a voice loud enough to be heard but shakey. The girl steps forward, eyes darting from Dal to the now dead feline, "I did't mean to hit him, I swear it." this time her voice is much softer, "SHouldda just grabbed a knife even if it wouldn't have been much use out here." Her chin drops to her chest as she sniffles and uses her free hand to rub at her face and nose.

Elise is already skidding and dropping onto her already bruised knees next to Dal to hover uselessly. Her hand looks like it might go to that arrow /sticking out of him/, but she doesn't touch it. Her complete lack of experience with something like this comes through so she just does something awkward, she pets his hair and gives him the most distraught face ever.

Razi's still got a death-grip on that spear, gaze glued on the feline. It's only belatedly that he seems to notice Dal's been hit, and he goes still, wide-eyed. He doesn't seem to know what to do, so he stands by the feline, like he's guarding it, watching for lack of anything else to do.

Feline dead, Oreithiya's finally unfrozen from her position. Heading in the direction of her fellow Candidates, the girl also hovers, though her expertise is in beast craft and not "human" craft. "I... have." She paws at herself to come up with a whole lot of nothing. With nothing like a rag at hand, she'll reach in to stem the flow of blood with merely her fingers if she can. If not, then she'll also hover awkwardly! "It'll be okay..." It's more question than statement, worried gaze lifted to Reesa.

Arriving out of ::Between:: rather than joining the circling of the other dragons in search of a spot to land, Adiulth makes a landing close to the crowd of candidates around the now dead feline. Unmoving, if nothing else. "Is everyone alright," he asks, calling down and unbuckling straps as he makes a quick movement to dismount - along with a quick headcount as he lifts a hand to catch the greenrider's attention. "Reesa. I need to talk to you." Though, talk is anyone's guess given that he's already reaching into the inner pocket of his jacket for something.

Wordlessly, Reesa takes the rag from Denali, crouching over Dal and pressing it in around the wound. It soaks red almost immediately, and she's grimacing, but she doesn't attempt to pull the arrow out. "Elise, here, hold this, keep the pressure constant," she's telling the candidate, moving her hands from the rag so that the other girl can take her place. "The healers are coming. You," a finger wags towards Denali, expression tightening at demeanor. "Help Razi and - Oreithiya, you're a beastcrafter - with the feline. You'll have to get it onto a stretcher, and the dragons will take it back to the campsite." It's very likely she's doing that /just/ to distract them all. Does it work? At least there's a healer, finally scrambling over the intervening space where the dragon landed to join the group, letting the greenrider ease back out of the way as she looks blankly at E'ten. "Now?"

Hold... this? Elise stares at Reesa with those same big eyes, then down at where she's meaning. "Oh..." Her voice sounds faraway, and her hands move automatically to do as she's told, to hold the rag in place to keep all of Dal's blood from coming out of his body. You know, no big deal.

Dal is probably going into shock, at this point, but Elise's face may be helping (thanks for your face, Elise!). "Sorry," he says, in a voice that suggests he's not quite all there. It could be for Denali. Or for Elise, or Reesa, or any of them. It's pretty definite that he's not conscious of E'ten's arrival-- right now, it looks like just concentrating on one thing is about the extent of his abilities. "I'll try not to bleed everywhere."

Denali mutely nods to Reesa as the order is given, turning she moves to stand with Rei in hopes that the other will lead the way towards getting the feline ready to go. "I didn't mean to hit him...I swear it." is murmured again as she walks away. "They'll kick me from the barracks for this...so ashamed." her head stays down.

More riders are coming, now, with stretchers - one for Dal, and one for the feline. Maybe they'll get to ride together in the ambul- dragon transport?

Backing away, E'ten's arrival is noted, but Reesa's command has the girl stumbling over to the cat. "Yes, ma'am." With a look to Razi, Oreithiya squats down to assess the animal's girth and size. It's with a sneaky gesture that she pets the animal's head -- fearless with the life gone -- almost apologetically. "We gotta take her back now."

Do what now? Razi's still holding his spear, and Reesa's words earn a frown as he looks down at the feline, then back over towards Dal with a furrow of brow. Okay, so the other candidate might be his nemesis, but he's the only one allowed to shoot him, damnit! At least Oreithiya seems to know what she's doing - he just looks at her expectantly.

"Now." And really, if E'ten continues to be so serious it might put a damper on the otherwise fun nature that the bronzerider may be known to have. Handing over the folded piece of hide to the other rider, it doesn't keep him from looking towards the fallen candidate with a bit more recognition. "Do the healers have him stabilized?" Not that he's much help but dragons and humans are basically the same in terms of trauma dealing. But then there's the message that he has to relay which keeps him with the other rider. Just in case his curiosity might pay off.

The healer's there, all bustle and professional demeanor. She sees this sort of thing all the time! (Maybe.) She's quick to apply numbweed to Dal's shoulder - immediately easing the pain - while murmuring instructions to Elise as she does - "Move the rag, yes, there, good. Get that bandage from my case. Press it here," in a reassuring manner. She's got this. It doesn't take long for her to stabilize him just enough, but she doesn't take the arrow out, either. "It'll have to wait until we get you back to the infirmary, but we will need to snap off the end." That sounds... painful.

Elise, at least, proves to be a dutiful healer's minion, if temporarily so. Her hands are quick and steady, probably because she's functioning on adrenaline alone, and do right by Dal in at least so far as the little things they're given to do. All the while she murmurs little agreements, 'okay' and 'yes'; when the snapping off of the end comes into play her eyes widen again and she moves her hand to Dal's upturned ear to kind of... cover it. Ssh.

The numbweed clearly helps, but Dal looks frankly horrified when the healer says that thing about /snapping off the end/. "But--" But there's Elise's hand on his ear, and even if that doesn't /really/ work, it stops him from trying to move or get away; even so, his expression is positively baleful, at least when aimed vaguely in the direction of the healer. The timing /does/ mean he misses Reesa's instructions to Razi. Triumph would probably be a bad thing right now, right?

Momentarily distracted by what's happening with Dal -- Oreithiya has a sympathetic wince for the poor boy -- she hears Reesa's order to Razi only by accident. Glancing to the Candidate, brows raise. "Are you in trouble?" she can't help but ask, though she goes back to helping get the feline ready for transport.

Hovering near Oreithiya still, Razi's head snaps up. "What?" as his name is called by Reesa, he straightens. "Back to the Weyr?" he echoes, uncertainly, glancing at Oreithiya as if she somehow might know, then quickly shakes his head at her question. "I have no idea." With a shrug of shoulders, he walks over towards the indicated greenrider.

It's not the first time the healer's dealt with a distraught patient. "It's the only way to transport you safely. To make sure the wound stays warm we'll need to bundle you in a flight jacket- the arrow will get in the way." Just the facts, ma'am. "Candidate," the healer directs to Elise, "Put your weight here, to hold him in place, and I'll-" she doesn't /wait/- and a moment later there's a /snap/ as she breaks the arrow. It's going to be really painful, numbweed aside.

Denali stumbles through trying to help get the feline ready to go back to camp but at the sight of what the healer is doing with the arrow, she runs for the treeline with her face now the color of the leaves in the jungle canopy.

She would pet his hair again, but Elise's hand is kind of gross because of how it has Dal's /blood/ on it. She stares at her fingers for a moment before hearing the healer, and the words register even as she's doing as she's told as she has been. She leans down on Dal's back with her weight, as much of that as there is, and stares at the woman across him from her instead of down at what she's doing. Snap. She winces. Sadly she isn't really hearing what's happening with Razi, because she'd be /reeeally/ interested in /that/.

Dal doesn't scream, though it looks like he'd probably /like/ to. Instead, he bites down on his lip (because more blood is exactly what he needed!)-- and then passes out. Which, well, at least will make him easier to transport, in a dead-weight kind of way. He can thank Elise later.

Since it's not E'ten being told to return to Fort, it's to K'varl that his attention flickers towards for a moment in notice of the rider but that may be all. Whatever reason that Razi is being called back, he doesn't seem to know or it's just because Dal and the possible transport arrangements are making him thoughtful. Glancing upwards now, it's more to gauge the wind and how it might be headed back with an injured person. "You know we can take him back to camp between the two of us..." That much for Reesa. If she's staying still long enough.

Reesa holds up the hide so that E'ten can see it, then with a shrug, watches the candidate head towards her fellow greenrider. K'varl's kind of side-eyeing Reesa, like he's not that happy he was roped into this late minute. "C'mon, boy," K'varl gruffs towards Razi, leading him away towards where his dragon is crouched. "Adiulth and Khiabeth?" Reesa says, kind of surprised, as she looks at Dal - winces in sympathy - and says: "If I can get her to hold still long enough, which is probably not likely. Have one of the other dragons help you- you'll need to get him onto the stretcher first." E'ten's very capable, she has every confidence in him!

With a last, baffled look over his shoulder (sadly, he misses Dal's reaction, since /he'd/ be very interested in watching the older candidate pass out), Razi obediently follows K'varl towards his dragon.

Oreithiya watches Razi go with K'varl, and turns back to the feline. Hopefully there's others helping out with that! She'll do what she needs to do in terms of getting the animal transported. She might also be side-eyeing the group around Dal, concern etched onto her features, but charged with the feline, that's where her primary concern lies!

Reading the contents of the hide as it's held up for his review doesn't do anything for E'ten's expression as it remains neutral. "She'd probably stay still long enough," he remarks before taking a few steps forward to the cluster with a glance over one shoulder at the greenrider. He won't press the issue but what he can do is help in getting Dal onto the stretcher. Adiulth, for being the bronze in question, lingers at the edge in preparation for being setup for the impending task.

And Dal's unconscious. Elise peeks down at his face and winces again, then looks up at E'ten and whoever else is going to help move him. "Oh, watch his... arrow... shoulder," she says quickly, getting to her feet, her hands now hovering uselessly again. She looks at them and grimaces, ducks them down out of sight. Nothing! Only then does she realize there's a void where there once was a Razi. "Where's Razi?" She missed that part.

There's something between a snort and a scoff for E'ten's assessment of her dragon: Reesa's far more realistic: "Not if you don't want him jostled to death." She leaves that part of the organization to E'ten, instead walking over to help Oreithiya and the other candidates with - well, supervision of - the move of the feline onto a stretcher. That doesn't take long, since there's no sensibilities involved - and once done, the greenrider's looking around, asking Oreithiya, "Where did Denali go?"

Denali Creeps out of the bushes, face still greenish. With head down she moves to rejoin the group, careful to keep her eyes from where Dal was laying and where the feline was. "I'm here." she offers. "I had to....it was a call of...nature." she manages to put together. "Sorry, meant to cause for more worry."

The healer looks, well, let's just say she seems happier that Dal's passed out. She's careful to pack the wound securely, and instructing Elise, manages to get a sling over the unconscious candidate's shoulder to hold his arm securely in place. That done, she hovers to watch the progress of transferring him to the stretcher a rider has brought up, the man gesturing towards E'ten for his help.

"I... didn't," Oreithiya comments, looking up from the feline at Reesa's question. "She.." She glances around, and spies her fellow Candidate coming out of the bushes. "She's over there!" Phew. Last thing they need is another Candidate Catastrophe! "Is he going to be okay?" Standing up, the beastcraft candidate gestures to the knot of healer, Dal, and Elise, and the stretcher.

It's so easy to retort after Reesa's comment but he's back to seriousness, moving to unbutton his jacket with a look to the healer, "You don't have anything else to put over the wound, do you?" It makes sense enough given their location and lack of materials. To Elise, he remarks, "He had to leave to tend to some things, that's all. How's Dal?" Though a lot of it can be seen firsthand. "You can ride back with me while we go straight to camp." Looking over one shoulder to determine who's closest to the bronze's size will be the easiest for the trip back.

"He..." Elise is out of sorts or she'd know that for what it is, a cover, but instead of suspicious eyeing, E'ten is given a slow nod. Seems legit. "Dal is... Well he's..." She gestures blankly. Well look at him. But a ride back sounds like a good thing, and she wanders wherever the bronzerider is going, following him around like someone lost.

Dal's unconscious, still, which is clearly for the better. Lucky Dal.

"Don't leave the group," Reesa tells Denali in her sternest expression, which is mostly borne out of self-preservation. For some reason someone put her in charge of the candidates, go figure. The stretcher with the feline on it is taken up by a waiting rider, and with that done, Reesa folds arms. "I'm no healer, but it didn't look like it hit something important. I imagine we'll break camp tonight after this, though. You two - go collect all the weapons," she probably means the spears and the bows and arrows, "While they prep him for transport."

"It'll be warm enough for the trip back to the camp, then we'll have to rug him up for between," the healer tells E'ten, watching closely.

Head bobs, Oreithiya's retreat comes with a relief for her fellow Candidate's health, but she'll gather up the weapons gamely, though her eyes stay averted from the feline. Guilt over that still lingers.

"Let's get him to the dragons," E'ten remarks to the healer, settling the jacket across Dal's upper body and shoulder with a look at the situation overall. "I don't want to spend too much time at camp, if we can help it. I'd rather have him back at the Weyr too." But he'll work with getting him on the stretcher once the dragons get close enough to make the distance easier before looking to Elise and points at Adiulth. "I can help you up." Because she seems to need something of an assist.

All of the assist, yes. Elise is watching Dal the whole way over to Adiulth, her brow furrowed and her gaze distant for how steadfastly it's focused on him. When E'ten addresses her again she snaps her chin up, nodding after she's realized what he means. "Oh, yes. Very good. Thank you." She's easy to help, at least, much as she was when she was helping the healer she listens well and does as she's told, and should be a tidy little package to be bundled up and flown off with.

Once the candidates finish collecting the rest of the weapons, Reesa directs them towards various riders, pointing out Denali and Oreithiya, "You'll come with me on Khiabeth." She makes it sound so exciting! It's unfortunate that Khiabeth can barely stay still enough to let anyone, let alone those not experienced, to climb aboard, though the greenrider's frown of concentration seems to settle the green enough to allow for that.

The healer's grimacing. "Once he's warm enough, we'll take him straight back. I won't risk it from here - he'll freeze to death, and the wound will get infected." She does, however, nod towards Elise in silent thanks for the help, before looking for a ride of her own back to the camp.

"Yes, ma'am," Oreithiya eyes Khiabeth dubiously. When Reesa seems to hold the dragon down to make mounting a /little/ easier, the girl's quick to try and scramble up. Maybe muttering, "Sorry, sorry!" as she goes, to garner some brownie points with the green. To Reesa: "Thank you for -- this." The Southern trip!

Denali bobs her head quickly as she hands off the weapons she's picked up. The girl moves as if all the energy she started the hunt with has been sucked from her with the accident and all. She stops beside the greenrider, her mouth opens for a moment as if she has something to say before quickly closes her mouth and waits for Rei to mount before she follows suit.

"You can come with us," E'ten remarks to the healer before gesturing to the bronze as the rider moves up the offered forearm with a turn of his head in her direction. "Adiulth can take all three of us together." Four if you count Dal. "I have enough room on the straps," he says, extending a hand first to Elise since she's already there and following along. That one, he'll have to keep an eye on.

There's a brief grimace from Reesa at Oreithiya's thanks. "Don't thank me. After how well this went, it may be the last time." Of course, that decision is not in /her/ hands, perhaps thankfully, and while she's looking at Denali, she doesn't prompt the girl to speak, instead helping her to settle in and making sure both are strapped in. It's probably none too soon, since Khiabeth is airborne almost immediately and she's - well, it's unfortunate if Denali's stomach isn't yet settled, for the green is quick, with sharp turns and a steep landing bringing them back to camp.

With a wave of thanks, the healer's already finding a ride with a bluerider, directing them to stay close to the stretcher with Dal on it during the flight back.

Elise takes the offered hand and mounts clumsily when it's time, she isn't used to this! After, and during any buckling and arranging, she's quiet. Maybe a little too quiet.
