| Living Cavern, High Reaches Weyr Stalactites hang high above this enormous cavern like a jagged chandelier or an inversion of the Spires themselves, but shadows cling to them instead of light. Below lie great tables arranged in rows, each large enough to serve a fighting wing, while in the nooks and alcoves around the cavern's edge sit more sensibly-sized tables, from six- and eight-seaters down to intimate spots for just a couple of diners. The only really open space is around the kitchen entrance, smelling of food and rarely quiet, and by the nearby serving tables with their long buffet of the day's offerings. Tapestries on the smooth walls -- some faded and others newly woven -- only slightly mute the sea of sound when a meal is in full swing, but they add cheerfulness augmented by the glowlight from wall sconces and the centerpieces of each table. Still, shadows always creep along the ceiling and into the mouths of the exits -- the myriad small hallways at one end of the cavern and, at the other, the twisting tunnel to the bowl near an array of coathooks and and hatracks -- and late at night, when the glows are allowed to dim, the chamber can seem very dark indeed. The breakfast rush is in full swing. Riders and caverns folks alike fill the tables or line up along the food trays and, included in the latter, is N'ky with a couple of other weyrlings. One girl, dark-haired, considerably shorter than him, has her hand pressed to the small of his back as he dishes up onto her plate; she then trots off to find a space at the weyrling table, with the others following her. N'ky lingers back a little to chat to one of the Weyr's full-fledged riders, standing just by the klah service to do so. Hana is far too awake for the hour, put together and with the spring in the step that suggests she's been up for a couple of marks. Despite this fact, however, she's only just now getting around to breakfast for herself (with greetings for those she recognizes, a list that gets longer every day) - a plate with a small amount of fruit if it is available, the rest cheeses and such - a familiar sight for some. Pausing a moment in internal debate, the young woman then turns towards the drink area, searching for a clean mug. And that's exactly when N'ky spots her. The weyrling breaks away from his conversation to step in beside Hana, grinning down at her. "Morning, miss Hana." He, too, seems pretty perky - but then he normally is in the morning. While he starts fixing up a mug of klah for himself, he turns to ask her: "C-can I pour water for your tea? Or are you having klah this morning?" "N'ky! Good morning to you as well," Hana turns with a pleased smile, before laughing. "Me? Klah? Skies forbid - but a mug of water sounds just about perfect - that way, I'll better appreciate my cup of tea later, don't you think? You haven't finished breakfast all ready, have you?" she then tacks on, glancing about to see if there is a plate with food she can mentally assign to him. N'ky's plate is pointed to; it's balanced just on the edge of the drinks area. "Right there. Would you like to join me?" He pours Hana her drink, and, juggling it along with his mug of klah, he picks up his plate and scans the tables. "There, miss Hana - there's a couple of empties over there.Would that do for you? You're, um, actually someone I w-wanted to speak to about something." Hana gives the plate a look, then nods - pleased enough that the food is there, given the last visit. "If you are sure I won't be interrupting you?" She nods to where the rider was, before admitting, "I enjoy having company at meals; it helps with digestion," she confides before nodding at the suggested table. "That would be just lovely - and I hope everything is going alright?" she tacks on, at the mention of the weyrling needing to talk to her. There's a definite improvement in N'ky's appetite since the last time he shared a meal with Hana, if he's intending on eating all of the food that's piled on his plate. "You're not interrupting at all," he assures her, before leading the way over to the empty table. He waits for her to sit, then slips into the other chair, setting both her water and his klah down between them. "How h-have you been? I've been so busy that I, um, I've not seen you in a long time." "I'm glad to hear that - and that is all too true. The problems with both of us keeping busy, yes?" Hana offers, as she takes her seat and moves her plate about so that the fruit is right in front of her. "How are you and your Cailluneth doing? I've heard something about weyrs.. does that mean you," well, all the weyrlings, really, "are almost done? And I'm not as busy as I was, so I may be around a bit more, now that that play of Mave's is done." "We're doing great, miss Hana, thanks for asking - we're, um, Flurry's wingleader this month. Alida's my wingsecond, too, and w-we've got our weyrs, yup." N'ky seems pretty proud of that much, and he nods his head enough to cause his curls to bounce. "Cailluneth and I picked the b-best one. It's, um, way up high, but it's perfect... um, it's what I wanted to ask you about, actually." He picks through his food, cutting bits up into edible sizes before loading up his fork. "Um... do you know how to make big cushions?" Hana doesn't clap her hands in delight, but her smile is certainly bright enough to offer up her congratulations to the room in general, "Oh, that is wonderful to hear - and way up high? Well, that should keep anything from falling on your, ah, ledge? which is even better." She nibbles on a piece of red fruit, then hms. "Cushions aren't usually very difficult, at least, if they are a regular size. How big is big?" "Would you like to come see, sometime? We'll take you up if you'd like? A-any time you'd like when we're not, um, drilling or whatever." N'ky fills his mouth with breakfast - enough to take him a little while to answer to the cushions question - though he's clearly trying to chew quickly! "Um..." His mouthful's already gone, but he swallows again anyway. "I only have space for a s-small sofa, and, um, I wanted cushions to put on the floor? Maybe? So guests h-have somewhere to sit. So I guess... big enough to sit on?" Hana hesitates a moment, at the mention of being taken, well, anywhere, before she offers a smile, "That will be nice - but not until you get everything just the way you like it," she adds as a rider, before hmming quietly. "That'd be rather large. Not too difficult, I don't think. Definately do-able. We'd have to go poking in the stores to figure out what kind of fabric you want, however - color, and texture. Also, what shape." N'ky swallows down another mouthful of breakfast, followed by a glug of klah. "So you can help me? I-I can stitch Cailluneth's straps, but, um, the smaller sewing I'm not so good at." He shakes his head, then brushes fingers through the curls that fall over his forehead, tucking them back - not that it makes a difference, as seconds later they're back where they began. "I want them plain, um... c-can we go to the stores together sometime?" Nevermind that she's just suggested it. "Are you sure it won't be too much trouble, miss Hana?" Hana takes a swallow of water, then considers the weyrling a moment. "I should make you help me.. after all, practice makes perfect." She lets that sit for a moment, then grins impishly, "But I shaln't, beyond perhaps the cutting of the fabric. It won't be too much trouble at all, N'ky - and I would be more than happy to go to the stores with you when we both have the time." "Oh, I'll help, for sure. With wh-whatever I can, though I'm really not good at sewing." N'ky grins, reaching across the table to capture one of Hana's hands for a quick, brief squeeze. "A-and I'll do something for you in return, too. What would you like?" "Extra hands are always helpful," Hana admits, before shaking her head - even as her hand is captured, "Oh, I don't need anything, N'ky. I have most everything I need, after all!" And people keep on springing things at her, like a dress. "If you /really/ feel the need, just save me a dance next time there is an opportunity." "I couldn't o-offer to take you somewhere when, um, we can go between?" N'ky winces at the thought of a dance; he's grown up in plenty of other ways since the last one, but his co-ordination hasn't improved much at all. "Y-you're sure we can't give you anything else? I... I'd feel bad for stepping on your toes again, miss Hana." Cue blushing, and the sudden interest in what food's left on his plate. "That just means more practice," Hana waves away the concern, before shaking her head. "But if you don't want to... well, you can surprise me then. With..." a hand waves, ".. something. "I haven't been anywhere other than here, so I wouldn't know where to even suggest." N'ky looks thoughtful for a while, pushing food around on his plate. "I've not been anywhere else really, either. Maybe when we're allowed to go, I could, um, take you to see a hatching somewhere? And we can go to the dancing after, and... it'll be fun. Or we could go somewhere else, and explore a little? Go to a gather or something. Um... a-anywhere." Hana taps a finger on her mug, then grins - again with the mischief. "Not going to offer any suggestions on that part, N'ky. You'll just have to surprise me. But in the meantime, your mission is to think about the colors you'd like, so we can figure out textures for those pillows. And I..." having finished, well, she finished the fruit? ".. have a project to finish before hunting people down. Make sure you finish your breakfast, alright? I plan on stealing mine away." "Sure thing, miss Hana. Surprise it is, and --" Over at their table, the gathered weyrlings are getting up, making to leave. "We've got a lecture to get to, actually, but I'll finish up real quick." The way N'ky says it, he's going to clear his plate just for her. He reaches up to ruffle through his curls, grinning toothily at the woman sitting opposite him. "I'll let you know my schedule a-and see if we can meet up some time. Um... I'll think about colours, too." Hana offers another bright smile, "Good - and doubly good," a bit of laughter dancing over the words as she refuses to mention what is only good, and what is most definately doubly so. "I will see you later then, N'ky, and good luck with the lecture!" And then she's off, plate in one hand and mug in another as she winds her way through the room, no doubt to cause thready knots of trouble. |

Aw, this was just nice. ^-^ I like that they still keep in touch when they can, and that Hana's various talents can be put to use. <3 N'ky's mood has vastly improved since their last talk.
