Weyrling Barracks, High Reaches Weyr

Tucked off the back of the training room, the barracks are a huge, high cavern that stretches far back into the stone of the Weyr. Both of the longer walls are lined with couches for the dragons, enough for a couple of Pass-sized clutches at once, each matched with a cot and press for the weyrling dragonrider. In this day and age, however, the couches in the back have been allowed to grow dusty with long disuse. Hearths are spaced between every few couches to heat the big room.

For decoration, there are a number of tapestries on the walls, looking almost as beat-up as the couches out in the training room, but scattered flower pots with their bright blooming contents provide a cheery touch. Additionally, some of the couches have had graffiti scratched into them over the Turns that were never quite cleaned off: smears of chalk messages or even rough pictures, some not fit for young eyes. In many cases names and dates have been painstakingly carved into the rock, a record of those that once made their home here.

After leaving Meara, N'ky had Cailluneth speak with Aisha's Pasiyath to set up a meeting. Despite having a weyr of her own already, Cirrus' wingleader was in the barracks with one of her wingriders - so convenient for N'ky! He wandered past the couches, most of them empty already, to the hearth she was sat next to with Quielle. "Um, h-hi," he started, a little awkwardly, standing there with his hands slipped into his pockets. "C-could I speak to you alone, Aisha? I-if that's ok? It's... wing business."

It's Quielle who looks up first-- Quielle, who has that innate air of authority and absolute command. "Ooh, I'm not wanted," she says, teasingly. "Wing business. That's okay-- N'gan and I have plans to try out his bath anyway. I'll see you tomorrow, Aish? 'Night, N'ky." Evidently being a Blooded weyrling gives you extra Weyr privileges, if N'gan has a bath in his. As Quielle saunters off, Aisha waves a hand towards the seat opposite hers, smiling. "Don't mind Quielle; she's feeling smug. Again. What can I help you with, N'ky? Is Flurry going to challenge us to a duel or something?"

N'ky blushes at Quielle's teasing, giving the girl an awkward smile. "Night, Quielle." He watches the first few steps of her exit, then settles into the seat indicated by Aisha. "N'gan has a b-bath? His own bath?" There's an air of jealousy about the weyrling before he shakes his head, getting back to the reason for seeking out Cirrus' wingleader in the first place. Her question about the duel makes him snort; he shakes his head and closes his eyes, knotting fingers into his curls. "M-may as well be t-training for it," he says with soft bitterness. Then, clearing his throat, he gets straight to it: "I've just c-come from Meara. She's given me p-permission to request your permission to join Cirrus, on a temporary basis - until the e-end of the month, I think. Um... I'm n-not coming to spy for any, um, d-duels. Honest."

"Makes you wish you were Blooded, and at the middle of some ongoing political tensions, doesn't it? Almost, anyway." When it comes down to it, Aisha doesn't sound that jealous... and there's something in her tone of voice that suggests that, perhaps, she doesn't like N'gan terribly much. She looks thoughtful, as N'ky continues, her narrow face abruptly expressive: the line of her brows, the bow of her mouth. "What can you bring to Cirrus, N'ky?" she prompts, attempting to sound professional, though it's obvious she's taking this Wingleader business with a grain (or two) of salt. "I may not be C'wlin, but my riders all pull their weight."

What can he bring to Cirrus? That question stumps N'ky, and he bites down on his lip as he tries to think of the right answer - any answer, really. "Um...Cailluneth and I... we work hard? A-and I'm... I'm studying, a lot, f-for when I get a w-wingleader's knot, so I know, um, stuff." He wrinkles his nose, unhappy with his self-selling. "I'll work hard, Aisha. I'll be the b-best Cirrus wingrider I can be. That's... th-that's what I can offer."

Aisha's trying to look serious - trying, but largely failing. "Shells, N'ky, it's fine. I was just interested in seeing what you might say. I don't mind having another green in the wing. We've been doing some fun things, and I think we could just possibly slide you in to them." She wiggles her toes, feet bare in front of the hearth, and adds, "We've all seen how hard you work. If you're so keen on getting a Wingleader's knot of your own, want to shadow me and J'madri? We can give you some pointers and stuff, maybe."

When Aisha starts laughing, N'ky blushes, running his fingers through his hair and joining in with a shy chuckle. "It'd be nice to do some f-fun things, for sure. And with no bronzeriders h-hanging over my head." He bites down on his growing grin, dimples showing in his cheeks. Her idea settles well, and his nods. "Yeah. Yeah, that'd be p-pretty good - it's one thing r-reading about it all, but it's another thing doing it, right? And... well, D'kan was good, but... there's a reason I'm here a-asking to come to your wing." He shrugs a shoulder, then breathes out and relaxes. "Faranth, it already feels better."

To Isath, Cailluneth's touch is softly apologetic once more; gentleness tempered by reined-in rainbow glee. Husky words have a smokiness to them, whispered in tarnished silver tones: « My Heart and I fly with Pasiyath's. »

"Bronzeriders," Aisha grins, rolling the word over her tongue. "It's bad enough that the Weyrwoman apparently has stolen most of my name-- but Cirrus is a bronzerider-free zone, sure enough." She seems pleased by N'ky's abrupt relaxation, and adds, stretching out her own shoulders: "Just don't let us down, okay? And be the best Wingleader you can be, when your time comes. We'll set you on the right track."

To Cailluneth, Isath requires no apology, for all that she accepts it graciously. « We are pleased to hear that, » she returns, moonlit and content. « May it do you well. Have a good evening, Cailluneth. »

N'ky nods, running his fingers through his curls to ruffle them up a little. "I th-think a little time away f-from them do me good." Anyone paying attention will have noticed that he's not got the best rapport with any of the bronzeriders in their clutch, with things still shaky between him and K'zin. "I'm g-going to be the best I can be, Aisha. What time do you w-want us in the morning?"

Aisha's dark eyes consider N'ky for a moment, and then she nods. "We can all use a bit of change, sometimes. Chance to grow, right? Away from the people we know best. Cirrus meets for calisthenics at seven. And you'll eat breakfast with us, so I can introduce you to the wing proper-like, okay?" She rises, now, stretching up onto her toes, and then back, feet flat on the ground. "You'll be fine. We'll see you right. You eaten yet?"

"Seven. Perfect. Cailluneth and I will be there, with b-bells on." N'ky grins, getting to his feet when she does. He doesn't stretch, but her question does have him rubbing his tummy, only just realising that yes, he is pretty hungry. "N-no...not yet. I sorta went straight to Meara, and, um... I m-missed dinner. H-have you eaten yet?" The thought of food makes his stomach rumble, and he winces in embarrassment. "I guess I oughta go get something. Will you come with me?"

"Next rule of Cirrus: no skipping meals. Didn't your mother ever tell you that dinner was-- okay, breakfast, maybe, but shh-- the most important meal of the day? Come on, let's go eat." Aisha leads the way, a skip to her step. She seems pleased.

"Did you skip dinner, if you're going to eat with me now?" N'ky's tone is gently teasing as he gets up to follow his new wingleader, falling into step alongside her on the way to go ease his rumbling tummy.

"No comment," says Aisha-- and then laughs.
