Madilla's response arrives by mid-afternoon on Day 1 of Month 7 - less than twenty-four hours later. It's the same exaggerated neatness, the same spelling. But - she's still trying.

Dear Daegan,
I am trying! I think I am getting better, but it is hard. I think it would be easier to learn this when you are young.
You are kissing a lot at the weyr? I didn't realise it was such a popular activity, but I suppose I will let you show me. At the hatching, or whenever I see you next. Are you excited about the hatching? For holders, marriages are useful for making links to other holds, if you need to trade with them, or share land. So, sometimes, you have to do what is better for everyone. I didn't mind the man I was going to marry, but I suppose it would be worse if you didn't like them. I do not think I would want to marry an old man, I suppose. I do not know what will happen, now that I am a Healer. I suppose it depends on whether I stay a healer, or go home.
Happy turnday, then. I'm sorry about your Gran not being happy with you. I suppose it is good, though, to remind her that you are growing up, now. I hope you make up with her, when you come back. If you do? I suppose that is a possibility.
I think I want to work with children, like your Gran, actually. Herbs are... easy, but not very interesting. But they keep telling me I am not assertive enough, and I need to learn to take charge. If I can't do that, I may just have to be a Herbalist. If you did trauma, you might have classes with Master Amaryllia. She frightens me.
Yes, I will dance with you, although I have never danced before, so you'll have to show me. But that would be nice. I will see you then! If I do not see you beforehand, please look after yourself on the sands, and good luck. People tell me it can be dangerous.
Your friend,
Madilla
