She had not panicked, of that, she was proud. While the healer might have thought it was her words and touch that soothed Iolene, Ysavaeth knew better. It was the right thing to do, to be there for Iolene. To be her stable focus. It was the queenly thing to do; what a leader would do.

As her rider slept, the girl's inky thoughts blessedly blank with the aid of fellis, Ysavaeth stretched out to briefly caress each one of her children. Her touch tonight wasn't of bells or pacifying melodies. It was instead a need for reassurance; that her own babies were safe and loved and thriving.

She passed over each of their minds, starting with Daehyeth and moving on up through her other young, Eolenth, Kasvanth, and Hraedhyth amongst them. She even lingered briefly in the mind of Iesaryth, the one who was not hers, but still hers in ways even Ysavaeth could not explain. Each one got a somber touch, monochromatic in its dulled gray. Even as the hue reflected her rider's grief, the young queen could not- no, would not allow any such negative emotions to marr or otherwise color her interactions with her young. Even a gray-scaled image of fireflies twinkling in the night sky could be reflective, if not happy.

But then it was over. Each dragonet having had their night visit and Ysavaeth was alone. So very alone for perhaps the first time in her life, and reflexively, her thoughts drifted to the mate by her side. Gray seeped from her to him, washing his chains in muted sorrow, dampening the rattling claxon of his mind. For, perhaps, the first time, she truly leaned on him, finding some measure of what humans might call love in this non-simple act of surrender.

She allowed that gray to creep into her pallor, dampening the sun and stars brilliance of her hide and didn't stop it from dulling the color and slowing the whirl of her jeweled eyes.

High Reaches looked gray through her filtered vision, and her gaze fixated on the flickering lights into the lower caverns entrance just across the way.

Sleep would not claim her tonight, not like it had taken her rider. Someone had to be vigilant and strong. Someone had to not panic.

I love that she needs reassurance that her babies are okay. <3 And I love that Cadejoth is there for her, and she actually needs him from time to time. :3c
