 Out of the Frying Pan Mon Jun 6 K'del
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A storm is coming. The weather is pretty bad at Tillek, but out on the islands? It's about to get much,
much worse.
So much worse, in fact, that on the afternoon of Day 17, several wings are mobilized to go out to those
islands, and bring back the exiles. All one hundred and sixteen of them.
Official word is that it's temporary only: that the islands are expected to be hit so hard that it just isn't
safe to leave them out there. Temporary or no, it's a pretty big thing, and the weyr is - unsurprisingly -
 left buzzing about it.
WILL it be temporary? Will they just take them all back? What is it actually going to mean?

 Exiles: Welcome! Mon Jun 6 K'del
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Exiles,
Welcome to the weyr! Where... everything is different. /Everything/. This is likely to be a period of
total disorientation (and in some cases, complete and utter lack of coping) for you. Some of the things
your character knows absolutely nothing about include:
* Baths are hot! How are they hot? How does it work?
* What's this meat stuff? Bread? Sugar? Why is it making you throw up all the time after you eat it?
* What's paper? What about ink?
* These new clothes are made of funny things. Leather, wool, linen, cotton; they're all pretty different
when they're not generations old. Where do furs come from?
* All the medicines are new. Numbweed? Fellis? Most herbs? Utterly foreign.
* Dragons! Do they talk? What is Between? How do they mate? What's this about breathing fire? How do
you become a dragonrider? Which ones are male, which are female? What does it all mean?
* What are firelizards?
* What's a lake? A mountain? Grass? Trees?
* Jewelry. Shoulder knots. Hats. High-heeled shoes. Most clothing.
* Booze!
* Playing cards. Dice. Most recreational activities in general.
* Records rooms (and all they might contain). Novels. Non-basic education.
* Formal crafts. Rank in general.
... and the list goes on and on and on. Hopefully, this should give you a starting point, though!

 Exiles: ... and into the fire Mon Jun 6 K'del
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've established that the weyr is full of strange, wondrous, and sometimes terrifying things. Conveniently,
being locked up in the candidate barracks is at least making exposure to them a more gradual thing.
Locked up?
Oh yes. Since the status of the exiles remains uncertain - since they're here temporarily, to shelter from the
storm - the weyr is taking no chances: all exiles are to be kept in the Candidate Barracks, where they've been
billeted, except when with an escort. Food is delivered at regular intervals, and escorts are available to take
those who need to to the necessary, to the bathing caverns, and for the occasional walk outside for fresh air.
But for the most part...
At least there are beds! Mattresses, furs; wonderful things. Unfortunately, the barracks are really designed for
about 80 people, and there are nearly a hundred and twenty of you - things are pretty cramped. Extra mattresses
line the floor, and children are sharing beds wherever possible.
Still. It's not the middle of an enormous storm. Right?
Junior Weyrwoman Teris is in charge, supposedly there to answer all concerns and fill any needs. She has an
assistant in Assistant Headwoman Alieva (+npc/full alieva).
OOCly, you are, of course, welcome to NPC an escort if you want to play outside the barracks, though this
confinement will probably only last a couple of days (so don't feel too constrained!). If you have any questions,
do feel free to ask!
