| RL Date: 4 November, 2015 |
| Involves: Fort Weyr |
| Type: Update |
| When: Day 0, Month 0, Turn 0 (Interval 0) |
| Suireh says, "Welcome to the Fort Weyr meeting! :)" Alida fistbumps Ghena. Suireh says, "The meeting log will be available afterwards on the wiki." Suireh says, "I'd like to thank you all for coming out and being kind as we transitioned into a new leadership team. Change of any kind is never easy, especially after the years of dedication and stability Hattie provided with her teams. Thank you to Hattie and all the Fort admins that have come before us for all they have done for Fort." Suireh says, "We will be sticking to our agenda as best as possible, so if you have any questions, please page Dahlia to be put on the question queue. We don't want to miss people's questions in any potential spam and figured this would be the best way to go about it." Agenda
Suireh says, "Let's jump right into it." Suireh says, "Plague and all that jazz. The entire game will be playing around a plague plot that will carry through the holidays." Suireh says, "We have worked out with HRW that the plague will start at Southern Boll and work its way very rapidly through the Fort region." Suireh says, "And then beyond." Suireh says, "So the first RL week or so of this story will be mostly at Fort before spreading." Suireh says, "OOCly, we will be utilizing this plague story to clean house, so to speak." Suireh says, "We've found the biggest feedback we've had from players is that a lot of Fort's previous stories are inaccessible as much of it is not documented in detail, which makes it hard to hook into some thing and rather than try to put the pieces together so we sound like we know what's going on when talking to someone about say, playing a renegade rider, we figured we'd just blank slate the area." Suireh says, "So... get ready for some massive death and destruction, particularly among the upper echelon of our coverage area." Suireh >.> Mirinda says, "Death!" Alida says, "D&D! Woot!" Dahlia says, "It's amazing how frail those with Serious Blood are... >.>" Suireh says, "The plague is opt in for all players, however, in the sense that anything that happens to your character or the NPCs your characters interact with (family, friends, ex-lovers whatever) is up to you to decide within the framework of what's happening at Fort." E'dre says, "Incest. Probably. Holders, puh." Suireh says, "Dragonriders at Fort will be impacted, depending on whether they travel, whether they ignore potential quarantines placed by the Weyrleaders." Suireh says, "Thin Blooded incestuous holders." Suireh says, "They could put a dragon to shame." N'rov >.> Suireh says, "Some quick notes, re: the plague and how it spreads, so you have an idea of how to play around it. A lot of it is kept purposefully vague for many reasons 1) Pernese medicine level isn't that detailed though I am sure some healer will end up whipping up the centrifugal concoction that innoculates people or something." Suireh should maybe reread Moreta at some point and see how Anne Science works. Edric says, "Just apply handwavium to it." Global Plague Notes Illness notes:
Suireh figures, keep it vague, keep it playable, try to keep it as fun as death can be. Ghena says, "Worth noting Moreta was set before they lost a lot of the medical knowledge." Mirinda says, "No kissing." Suireh says, "Airborne virus just seemed /too/ quick." Alida says, "No sex. >.>" Suireh says, "But you can accidentally exchange bodily fluids with someone. They spit. They sweat... They touch something, someone else picks it up within a few minutes..." Suireh says, "You sneeze..." Suireh says, "You know, all the good sickness stuff. (Just in time for flu season RL!)" Edric says, "Flights will be awkward." Alida says, "Hoo man." Ghena says, "So awkward." <OOC> Suireh eyes my connection. Suireh says, "The last thing I saw was the comment on flights being awkward." Suireh says, "We will be posting on the +bb the spread through Fort's region (so those Reachians reading this, you may wish to check the Fort +bb too earlier on) and try to cross post relevant things to the General or World News boards." Ghena says, "I take it it's more of a limited impact where Reaches is concerned?" Suireh says, "That will be up to the HRW admin team." W'leri boom shaka~ Suireh says, "Fort and HRW are, physically, two of the closest Weyrs on the continent I think." Suireh says, "Lots of shared borders." Suireh says, "If, at any time, you have a question about how your character is impacted or how the sickness works, please +mail staff, so we can all see it. We are trying to communicate and stay on the same page about how things are working for us." Suireh says, "The first post will go up this Friday, and there will be a gather event at Boll, that won't be a 'hosted' event per se, but Rose (Yes me, talking about myself in the third person) will post a brief summary of what would go down at the gather." Suireh says, "The first death will happen 10 IC days (3 RL days about) afterwards with a major death occurring by November 11th." Suireh says, "So that's... pretty much the bare bones of the plague story. We'll play it by ear through the interim months and see how people are faring since death and doom all the time is also no fun." Suireh says, "But the definitive end date is during the first week of January." Suireh says, "Any questions? Page Dahlia. XD I'll give it about 5 minutes so we can all eat more candy." Alida says, "Mmm. Candy." Suireh ate two lifesaver gummy packages... Suireh says, "TWo cookies and cream hersheys." Suireh says, "And one twix." Suireh says, "MY husband is hardcore judging me." Jocelyn says, "Those Lifesaver Gummies must be made with crack. We go through a lot of them at work. >.>" W'leri had wine. That counts, right? :D Suireh mmmm wine! Alida just nabs a leftover mini peanutbutter cup. Edric eyes his bags of candy. Shoves them into the freezer. Suireh says, "What are you freezing?1" Suireh hopes not the gobstoppers. Suireh had to throw them out in case my kid got into them. Suireh says, "Like the worst candy ever." Edric says, "Reese's (everything), Butterfinger (everything), mixed bags of chocolate, for the most part." Suireh says, "Frozen Reese's. Mmm." Dahlia says, "Jocelyn! Ask your question. :D" Suireh watches everyone just stare at Jocelyn until she's uncomfortable. W'leri beams. Jocelyn says, "Technical medical question because I tend to overthink these things, so - apologies if this gets a little long-winded! XD Pathogens transmitted by bodily fluid don't always have the same concentration in all fluids - e.g. a virus can be more concentrated in someone's saliva, but not enough makes it into their tears or their sweat to actually infect someone. We assume blood, sexual fluids, contact with emesis / contaminated fecal matter would definitely transmit whatever causes the plague, but is this going to be something that you catch if an infected friend cries on your shoulder during the asymptomatic - prodomal phase? Also, if someone has the plague and is coughing droplets into the air that contain the pathogen, does that cross the line into being airborne by fluid since people could, well, inhale that and potentially become patient -insert number here-?" Suireh falls over. Jocelyn, sheepish. O:) Ghena dies. Suireh says, "What part of handwave doesn't make sense?!" Suireh Cries. Suireh XD Mirinda /laughs/. Alida giggles. Mirinda says, "That's it, let's all walk around with face masks forever." Suireh says, "Ok. 1) tears, saliva and what not might not be as infectious, but I am going to just say that if you want it to be, then yes, it can. Maybe your immune system is more compromised than another person. You're either less healthy, or you have a genetic anomaly that you do not know about since genes are a figment on Pern, that makes you more or less susceptible. XD" E'dre patpats Jocelyn and appreciates the science <3 Suireh says, "So yes, if you ingest a gallon of your friend's tears........ maybe you will get sick." Suireh tries to envision this. XD Edric gets out the 'friend poking stick' to test. Dahlia thinks Ka'ge drinks tears for breakfast... No? N'rov hands over a tear straw. W'leri doesn't offer anyone emotional support, ever again. Mirinda says, "Next up: reservoir conditions." Suireh says, "2) Blood, sexual fluids, fecal matter - yes, all can make you sick. But I imagine there are some people who are naturally immune for whatever reason. That discretion is left up to individual players as well. That said, if you are in a room full of walkers wanting to eat your brains, most likely your brain will get eaten too." Suireh says, "Which is what the real solution to all this should be." Suireh says, "Shove anyone who is sick into a containment room to die. >.>" E'dre says, "Kill the Holders and never help them again?" Mirinda says, "Cruel, but effective." Edric says, "I'll get the torches." Suireh can see the witch hunt now. E'dre says, "Basically you see this as how people operated during the black plague ie: didn't understand much, quarantined and burned people, etc." Ghena says, "So basically, the black death arc from Reign." Suireh points at N'rov: You coughed! Someone get him jailed! Suireh says, "Yes, pretty much." E'dre says, "YAY REIGN. haha." Suireh says, "Healers can only do so much. And they cannot diagnose it well." Suireh says, "And it just... should be a bit chaotic." Jocelyn says, "Pernese equivalent of sanitariums? >.>" Suireh says, "So ICly, it is very unlikely many people will figure out how the disease spreads." Suireh says, "Just that it spreads." Suireh says, "Does that help, Jocelyn?" Jocelyn says, "It does! ^^ Thanks!" Suireh is open to any more science-y explanations. XD I'm a computer scientist, a math scientist. XD Not a hard science scientist. XD Dahlia says, "Ghena! Please ask your question!" Ghena says, "How will the plauge affect non PC Areas?" Suireh puts on her Rose hat: The east coast will be relatively unaffected, certainly not as much as the west coast. Suireh says, "Southern continent will be less impacted." Suireh says, "There will be posts relating to this as time goes on." Suireh says, "Scratch that. Not relatively unaffected. It will just be less impacted than the west coast." Suireh says, "So West coast (HRW, Fort, Telgar will have the most problems), then Igen, Ista, Benden. Any port holds will be impacted more than average." Suireh says, "Southern continent, port cities/holds/whatever will be impacted. The rest of the continent, less so." Suireh says, "Out at sea, several ships will be impacted." Suireh says, "But no one will know." Suireh says, "Poor ships." Edric says, "Ghost ships." Suireh says, "Yes." W'leri sniffs. Ghena says, "As in they will sink? Or people will find empty ships?" Suireh says, "Let's leave that vague for now. XD" Suireh says, "If you want to find an empty ship, please +mail staff first. >.>" Suireh says, "But maybe hold off on that until after January." W'leri imagines they would run aground, if everyone on board is dead. But. Yeah. XD Suireh creates the Bermuda Triangle on Pern. Suireh says, "What should we name it?" Ghena says, "NPC Areas or NPC's affected in those areas would be directed to Rose then correct?" Suireh says, "Yes." Suireh says, "Does that answer your question satisfactorily, Ghena?" Ghena says, "Yes, I'll write more down as I think of them." Suireh says, "Ok. Just to do one last clarification... NPC areas in Fort coverage or HRW coverage should go to the admin teams of each area." Suireh says, "But the rest of Pern? ISta, Igen, Telgar, Benden, even Southern, Monaco, Ierne, the other one I forget, go to Rose." Ghena says, "Honshu" Suireh says, "Yes. That one." Suireh says, "I always forget it." Suireh says, "Or if I remember it, I forget Ierne." Suireh says, "Ok, onward ho! The next item should be IC leadership changes, but due to some sudden spontaneous RL happening (not to be confused with combustion), we'll be moving that to after Search." Suireh says, "Which is always a fun subject." Suireh says, "I appreciate the time and thought T'rev put into Fort's Search system, trying to streamline it, but we will be moving towards a more traditional Search system starting with the January cycle." Suireh says, "The differences, for those who are not of Fort, are mostly that the decision of Impressees will be placed in the hands of the Search Committee rather than the admin team." Suireh says, "Our Search cycle will start in January or February of 2016, which is approaching scary fast." W'leriD: Dahlia says, "So fast." Suireh says, "Because I know someone will ask it at some point. The decision of whether there will be a gold or not will be based entirely on what we perceive our needs to be at the time and with two months between then and now, we cannot give a clearer answer than that. Sorry, folks. XD" Suireh says, "Any questions? Clarifications? Thoughts?" Suireh eats more candy while I wait. E'dre says, "Search changes sound fair to me." Ghena says, "Fort still has two cycles this coming year correct?" Suireh says, "Yes. Barring no sudden changes during the year. *plays twilight music* No, not really. XD" Suireh says, "My husband is going to come back upstairs from playing LoL or HoN or Consonant vowel Consonant and find me buried under a mound of candy wrappers." Suireh says, "Ok, last call for questions re: Search, what's here or anything else. I'll give it a few more seconds and then move on." Suireh says, "The next item on the agenda is IC leadership changes. I would like to preface this part with, the admin team values both areas staying individualistic. And personally, as a game owner, I truly believe each area has to have a different focus, outlook, style, RP style, plot style, and just general aura and flavor to be a sustainable game. Two of the same thing would get very boring. Two different things with different things to offer is far more vibrant. So with that in mind, IC leadership changes can be as tricky as OOC admin team changes." Suireh says, "Due to personal player responsibilities and a desire to stick to her character's storyline in the most realistic (for y'know, fun time games XD) way, Dahlia has asked to not be Weyrwoman for a little while. With this in mind, we have decided to move the process of having confirmed leadership at Fort sooner than the January search cycle and realized the plague makes it easy to just jump into it." Suireh says, "At this time, we want to thank Hattie and E'dre and profusely for everything they've done, including stepping in to help out with their limited time and busy RLs when Lilah's RL erupted. Their devotion to the area is truly amazing and Fort would not be what it is without either of them. Thank you both so much." Suireh eyes that extra and that snuck in there. Suireh says, "Sec, husband came up to mock me. >.>" Suireh says, "The story for how this will happen will unfold over the next two weeks, but by November 18th, Fort will have confirmed leadership in the form of Mirinda, Monaco's beleaguered junior and N'rov, Fortian pretty boy." Mirinda says, "Hi. :D" Alida snickers. N'rov rattles the bars. E'dre gasps! And yay :) N'rov (candy or iron, whichever) Suireh says, "I'd like to thank both of them for coming to help be a bridge and build RP for the Weyr while we settle ourselves in." Suireh says, "We hope everyone will take the time to badger them (nicely, be nice! be gentle, don't scare them away, at least not yet) for scenes or work out things or figure things out. It will not be easy, ICly, for Fortians to take in a Weyrwoman not Hattie and not Fort." Mirinda is looking forward to it. A challenge! A germy one. Suireh says, "IF you have any story ideas as pertains to this, for instance, a faction of riders who would rather Hattie or Dahlia or whoever be WW, please talk to the admin team if it'll be more organized than random disgruntled RP." E'dre says, "E'dre will throw a fit, just for fun. N'rov will have to deal ;)" Suireh says, "Part of the IC leadership change will segue into a change in how we hope to tackle Weyrleaderships going forward." N'rov deals... a /good/ hand. Isabeau says, "Hey He's pretty at least." E'dre says, "Don't say these things aloud. His head swells enough without knowing we /know/!" Suireh says, "A lot of details are still being hammered out among the admin team, but, briefly, we are hoping to have a fairly transparent process of how Weyrleaders are selected going forward." Suireh says, "So please be on the look out for some more on that in the coming months. :)" Suireh says, "Any questions?" E'dre says, "Let's say after a few scenes have happened once new leadership is announced and we have questions for play going forward with the new WW/WL, (with dissent or not etc), do we clear ideas with them or woud you rather us go through admin and CC them..? etc..?" E'dre fixes that would* Suireh says, "ftwadmins and WL/WW characters." Suireh says, "It helps for everyone to be on the same page." E'dre checks. Gotcha. Edric just keeps adding to his +mail. *cough* Suireh says, "Admins because it will help us mediate any kinds of IC or even OOC conflicts down the line to know the whole story from the start. And WW/WL cause it's their play and the admin team doesn't dictate their RP, generally. >.> So instead of +mailing the admins and then the IC leadership separately, just put us all on the same +mail." Suireh says, "Saves time. XD" Suireh gives it a few more for any other questions. E'dre says, "In the past, RP and +events didn't require a lot of checks with admin/leadership. However, current admin team would like to be clued in to help organize/keep things on point for plots etc, correct?" Suireh says, "It actually did. I spent time going over the Fort +lhelp files." Suireh says, "+lhelp event was dated from when Berit started the Weyr." E'dre says, "Well sure, what Berit had started, but I'm talking about N'muir/Hattie. I want to have it clarified for everyone, as it was discussed with me, what exactly the expectations for working with plots is here on out." Suireh says, "What is in +lhelp events is basically what we stand by." E'dre says, "Okay." Mirinda says, "Yay communication. Ok." Suireh says, "Day to day RP does not need to be run by the admin team. However, if day to day RP results in Fort Hold deciding not to tithe anymore, that's probably important for the admin team to know of to help facilitate RP for the entire area." Suireh says, "Events, however, should be run by the admin team so no one is accidentally planning something for a weekend when things are already planned." Mirinda says, "So we should talk to you before posting something like that on the wiki?" Suireh eyes Mirinda. Suireh drowns Mirinda in wrappers. Mirinda glug glug glug. Suireh says, "We'd also like to make sure, for instance, there aren't parties 4 RL weekends in a row." Suireh says, "A friend of mine, years ago, used to have an analogy of spreading the butter." Suireh says, "No one likes a piece of toast with butter only in one corner." W'leri says, "Lies." Suireh says, "Spread it evenly, widely, all over. The OOC admin team is here as a tool for players to utilize. We are your whiteboard calendars in the hallway, we are your sounding boards to make sure an event is good to go or help fill in holes in a plot so it makes both sense and has the largest oomph/impact for the most number of people." Suireh says, "That said, no, we do not believe all plots are meant for all characters. There is no one size fits all plot. But we are here to facilitate RP as much as possible." E'dre says, "Sounds good." Mirinda says, "The same, I think, goes for my character. I will absolutely do what I can to get/keep people involved, as long as it is in character for Mirinda. So please do feel free to use me in that way. I don't make OOC decision, but I hope I can keep things interesting IC." Suireh says, "If anyone needs clarification on what the OOC admin team is here for, please feel free to ask. If you are ever confused as to whether you should ask about something or not, asking won't hurt. We will try to do a less than 24 hour turn around." Suireh says, "Turn around on a response." Dahlia dittos. Happy to try to facilitate involvement! Suireh says, "At worst, we'll respond with: Go ahead, no need to ask about this. XD" Suireh waits a bit more for questions and looks up new laptops to buy. ._. E'dre has to give in to migraine. Thanks for the meet. Glad to have you, Mirinda and *flicks N'rov* and plague death of Holders (E'dre will be so happy to see them die, jk) Night all :) W'leri also has to go, for the sleeps. Night! Suireh says, "Night! Thanks for the opportunity to clear that up and coming and doing all you have for Fort. :)" Mirinda says, "Night, E'dre." Suireh says, "So this segues into opportunites to get involved, sort of." Suireh says, "With IC leadership changing, and the plague coming in, it means we are also planning on running it through the Fort leadership ranks and will be opening up several wingleader and wingsecond positions to those who may be interested in the position with their current Fort alt or create an insta to fill this role." Suireh says, "Please keep in mind that wingleadership is considered some level of feature character at Fort and does have FC-related requirements for activity and proactivity." Suireh says, "Are you an up and coming rider who is earnestly holding the wing together and gets promoted because of this?" Suireh says, "ARe you a character who is just ambitious and muscles him or herself up." Suireh says, "Let us and the IC leadership know." Suireh says, "Will you be riders Mirinda brings with her from Monaco who get their position because of those ties. We encourage people to get their brainstorming thoughts going.:)" Suireh says, "And as this is nearing 2 hours and I don't want to take any more of your time... I'll lump this in with the last bit: plots and stories." Suireh says, "If you have plots, stories, and ideas for RP. Events, standing events, just anything, please feel free to brainstorm." Suireh says, "Going back to what I said earlier, I truly believe that both areas should be distinctive in style and stories." Suireh says, "And with the blank slate we're giving to Fort, we are open to ideas and helping our players work out their ideas into fulfilling play." Suireh says, "So, thank you all for coming, for listening to me ramble, for hearing our ideas for Fort going forward and the exciting changes coming soon." Mirinda says, "Thank you, Suireh!" Alida says, "Thanks for the meeting/information." Suireh says, "We hope we can help you guys build your RP and your dreams and all that stuff." Suireh says, "And that you can work with us to make more exciting things happen. :)" Alida says, "You sound like Weyland/Utani. >.>" Suireh says, "Weyland/Utani?" Alida says, "The 'Alien' series evil megacorp. ;)" Suireh AHAHAHA. Suireh has never seen that, but ok. XD Edric is reminded to get a +bbpost together, but will have to do that tomorrow. D'oh. Edric says, "Thank you for the meeting, Suireh." Dahlia says, "Woo, Suireh! :D" Isabeau says, "Thank you Suireh!" |
