Fiber Crop Failures
RL Date: 28 January, 2009
Involves: Fort Weyr
Type: Update
What: The fiber crop shortage is felt throughout Fort area.
When: Day 16, Month 11, Turn 18 (Interval 10)

As month 11 progresses, sweepriders have been making discreet enquiries throughout the Fort coverage area and brought back word of fiber crop failures. Nowhere has this been more evident than at Fort's Harvest Gather. Usually a large trading event where the proceeds of the harvest are haggled over, bought, sold and traded to set up many a weaver with quality stock to be turned into the high-fashion clothing that Fort is famous for, this turn's Gather could be regarded as something of a fiasco, with raw fiber and weaves of cotton, linen and sisal in particularly short supply.

Many of the usual sellers ran out of stock early and boarded up their stalls, leaving wool and tanned leather as the majority goods being traded for the duration of the Gather. Word is mixed: apparently some bales never arrived after leaving shipping points further to the south. But the fact remains that an odd blight took down large portions of the crop this turn, leaving the region short-handed for fabric supplies for making everything from underwear, shirts and sheets all the way through to fine gowns.

Llama wool and sheep's wool are going for a premium too, in spite of being relatively copious in supply, if only because neither of the animal-based fibers are primarily raised in the Fort area. Stocks of both fleeces coming down from Ruatha or from the Reaches' territory are in high demand throughout Fort as the colder weather starts to set in, in the more northerly reaches of the region.
