| After dinner, the weyrlings start to dissipate like a cloud from their table. Some stay, some go, E'sren being one of the latter group. Dear Ma... He clears his plate and glass, taking them away with him as he departs. In passing two of his fellows he grins, a usual greeting from him. Life's different, but I'm alive and well here in the caves. They're taking real good care of me. I'm sorry it took me so long to write. On his way out, he passes Sabella and holds his fist up for her to bump it. I have a lot of new friends. The others are really great. I feel like I'm a part of another family. Not as awesome as you guys though. But, you know, it's hard to live up to the real thing. He shivers a little as he walks around outside, taking a slow, leisurely lap around the bowl, and shrugs his shoulders up to adjust the collar of his jacket around his chin, tucks his hands into the pockets. Ahruth, maturing more and more every day, slides into step beside him and the two share the quiet, the dragon practically glowing in the light from the moons. Ahruth is still really bright. Just like how you saw him. He's bigger now, I drew a picture, which you will find enclosed, of how tall he is now compared to me. You'll notice I didn't get better at drawing pictures in my time here. Anyway, he's smart, he's colorful on the inside too. I wish you could talk to him. One of those laps brings them near the ledges where the queens live and E'sren tilts his head towards one in particular, a small, easy smile tugging up one corner of his mouth. Aishani Vijay sort of runs this place. I know you knew her family, before. She wanted me to tell you, the people in the mines made it out. She thought you'd like to hear that. She's tough, like you. Lot of tough girls around here. You'll be happy to know I'm outnumbered. Finally it gets to be too cold anymore to carry on, so they head into the barracks, into the warmth only several human and dragon bodies can achieve. It's cozy, but too warm for his jacket so he strips it off immediately. Sabella's cot is on the way to his, he casually drops a little purple flower on her pillow. My new friend Sabella wants to come meet the family when we can fly. I told her about our parties, and about you. When are we doing one of the big ones again? We wanna come. I think she'd have a lot of fun. Later, after tending to Ahruth, washing up, putting on his warm pajama clothes, and tucking himself in, he lays in bed, propped up by one pillow folded over, and using his knees to provide something stable to write on. They'll turn the glows out soon, he has a few minutes though. The most recent line results in a wince and he has to stop, flex his hand to ease the cramping. I write a lot here. The darkness comes slowly, gradually as each basket is shielded until finally there's only one left. E'sren stares at the page of lines for a handful of seconds, then adds one more, the only other thing he can think of to say. I love you a lot, and I miss you. And I understand now, why you did what you did. The last light goes out, as if that final period somehow also ended everything else. |

*squeals* I don't know if you meant for this to be like... a voice-over while we're watching him go about his evening? But that's totally how I picture it. I loved this! It answers some questions, but prompts others. :x
