Eastern Bowl, High Reaches Weyr

Ringed by rough granite walls to all sides but one, this end of the huge bowl narrows from the even broader plain to the west, continuing the ever so slight downward slope toward the blue and green of the Weyr's lake and surrounding foliage. More open to sun and wind than the western bowl, but less frequented when there aren't weyrlings in residence, the bowl's grassy tufts keep the topsoil in place and thicken into a bloodstained meadow within the feeding pens that adjoin the lake.

At the base of the surrounding cliffs lie entrances to several caverns, including the dragon infirmary and the weyrling barracks: the former to the northwest near where the spires begin, the latter opposite to the southwest. Both archways are large and dark enough for any dragon to pass through, but it's the infirmary's that is haunted by faint smells of redwort and numbweed, as though over generations they have seeped into the very stone. To the southeast, between the weyrling area and the lake, there are a handful of structures built into the floor of the bowl, standing out amidst otherwise an empty space.

The good thing about the afternoon: their dragons get to fly in the clear, breezy summertime air, flapping awkwardly in pairs under grownup supervision. The bad thing: they have to not only stay put on the ground, but wait lest their dragons be distracted. Telavi bends a look over at N'ky, and sighs, not for the first time.

Cailluneth took some getting up there, but she is airborne, alongside her smaller sister. On the ground, N'ky is sitting with his back to the wall, eyes fixed and mind focused on his lifemate - though he does break away to look up at Telavi when she looks down at him. "H-how's Solith doing?" The teen manages a soft smile for his fellow green weyrling, before rubbing his palms across his leathers-clad knees and looking back up to the two greens.

Telavi draws in a breath like she has to think about it, shifting from foot to foot, breaking off to pace away a couple steps before a pivot brings her back towards N'ky. "She says she's happy about it, of course. I'm just glad the wind isn't stronger, I worry it'll knock her over." The girl braces her palms against the warm rock of the wall, shadowing her hands as she leans in for a vertical push-up. "At least we're getting closer, right? Closer to being real?"

"We're a-already real, Tela." N'ky reaches up to flick a finger against her thigh. "See? Real." His attempt at humour comes with a dry sort of smirk. "But yeah, I know. It's... um... w-we'll be getting out weyrs soon, I guess." He squints up into the sun, to where ledges dot the Weyr's wall. "I'm n-not so sure about living so high up. I've, um... I've n-never slept higher than g-ground level."

Tela swats at his retreating finger even before she glances down, but then she's smiling too, a little. "Very funny. Is that how they do it here, that fast?" It's her turn to examine the dark holes of the weyr mouths before time drags her eyes back up to the green specks. "You'll be all right. People usually keep their beds pretty far inside, it's not like you can roll over and fall off. You won't fall off at all unless you're dumb," so he will be all right, says her tone.

N'ky's nose wrinkles. "Yeah, but... d-do you think it might feel weird, sleeping up there? Even if you're n-not by the edge?" He frowns, scratching at his neck before running fingers through curls that are beginning to regain some of their former wildness. "D-do you think someone will throw a w-weyr-warming party?" Cailluneth rumble-croons to Solith, slowing her wingbeats down so she can start her short descent.

"No?" Why should she? Tela's twisted to warm her shoulders against the rock. Finally she offers, "Maybe it's different for me because I'd stay up in my uncle's weyr every now and again, when I was old enough and before I got too old. It was an adventure, I loved it." Solith's none too thrilled about this descent thing, even if she is getting tired, but if Cailluneth is doing it, she'll go along with it... but after the other green, to keep them further apart, to avoid crashes. "Maybe it'll be weird for you, but you've gotten used to all these other things, right? You can handle weird." She paces a couple steps forward, like that will really help her spot the dragons. "I don't know about weyr-warming, though. Do you mean, 'We have our weyrs, let's have a party!' or do you mean, 'We have our weyrs, maybe our family will give us extra stuff to decorate it with'? I wonder if my mentor would, she doesn't seem so flush in the pockets, though."

With Cai coming down, N'ky gets to his feet and plods after Telavi to stand behind her, hands dipped into his pockets and lips pulled tight as he carefully watches his lifemate's descent. "I've n-never been inside a weyr. I don't know what they're like, b-but, um, I guess I'll get used to it." There isn't really too much of a choice, after all! The mention of family has him frowning. "The f-first. 'We have our weyrs, let's h-have a party'." His rendition is lacking the emphasis Telavi gave hers. Cailluneth comes in, backwinging to slow down, and manages a rough, graceless landing - made all the heavier by her bulky frame and the baby fat that seems to be growing with her, instead of melting off. She favours one paw after her landing, holding it up delicately, and N'ky runs over to check it.

"Never ever? And you've lived here how long?" It's Telavi's turn to start after him towards the dragons, though once she sees that hers has landed without incident, she stops by Cailluneth and lets the littler green approach them instead. Solith has a quirky sort of croon, part concern, part curiosity as she tries to look at the other green's paw right along with N'ky. "Well, all right. They can be a lot different, but mostly you know what the ledge looks like, right, to land on? And maybe there's an overhang, so the dragon can sit out there and not get rained on, but not always. Then you go inside, maybe there's a curtain to try and keep the air how you want it, but it's never really as calm as a room down in the caverns." Tela could keep going, but she finally glances at N'ky to see whether he can handle this and paw-examining both.

N'ky has Cailluneth's paw in his hands, flexing it back to check the underside. The way he rests his dragon's leg against himself is a throwback to his farrier training. Even the delicate way he runs his fingers along the green's toes gets her twitching, and his shoulders jerk when his lifemate does as if he's feeling it too. "I g-got here not too long before I was s-searched... so, um... m-maybe... m-maybe seven months, or something." He's distracted as he feels his way around Cai's nailbeds. "Oh. Tela? I need, um... c-can I borrow your fingers? F-for a second?"

"Yes?" the other weyrling replies, peering over his shoulder just like Solith, though it's only the girl who realizes she might be shading him and sidesteps to crouch where she too can reach. "Of course I have to tell you to give them back afterward, you know."

"H-here, please." N'ky directs Telavi where he needs her, before gently running a finger across the underside of one of Cailluneth's nailbeds. "She's g-got a little pebble wedged here... c-can you see it?" A tiny chip of grey is just visible, tucked in deep. "My f-fingers are too big and I d-don't have my old, um, t-tools... could you try?" The look he gives her is both hopeful and hurting, as his dragon's pain - not severe, in this case, but more irritation - is shared. "P-please?"

Can she see it? Tela looks where he's gesturing somewhat blankly, even though she's tilting her head this way and that way, trying. But then Solith chuffs, and the girl's shoulders twitch, and she says distantly, "I think so." She gives it a go, her own fingers long and slender and strong when it comes to needles and, just maybe, pebbles too.

Cailluneth twitches, her foot jerking despite N'ky's soothing hands holding her in place. "Sh-she says it stings." The words are a little thick, heavy with his dragon's feelings; it's no secret how strong a bond the two have. "Sssssh," he soothes the green, resting his head against her shoulder. "Do you th-think you can do it, Tela? Um... it's... it's k-kinda deep. Maybe it'll need long t-tweezers, or something?"

"Maybe." It's no secret how strong a bond she and Solith don't have, but the green's helped, and now Telavi can do her work. "If only I hadn't cut my nails," they wouldn't be sadly short, but Tela makes do, tilting her fingertips so they capture an outthrust corner and she can prise that rock out. But first, "I have to get it around the corner. I'm trying to not hurt you, Cailluneth, just hold still?" If Solith could conceivably listen to Cailluneth can give Tela an idea of where exactly things are and how to adjust them, that's not something the girl thinks of. The littler green is crooning, though, a soft whisper of sound that would very much like to make it better if only she could.

"M-maybe, um..." N'ky bites on his lip, fingers flexing nervously against his dragon's paw. He holds up one hand, index finger raised, to stop Telavi. "I-I think I'll go to the i-infirmary... um... th-they'll have tweezers I c-can borrow, and, um... C-Cailluneth will get looked at." By whichever dragonhealer is there on duty. "Sh-she'll, um... she'll need to go anyway." N'ky's twitchy with anxiety for his lifemate's welfare, and even after he lets go of her foot, he keeps contact with Cailluneth by resting a hand on her chest. "Is S-Solith ok? Will you need to, um, come too?"

Telavi has her nails on it, she's got it, she's so close, there's a slight pull where she just can't seem to make herself stop... but then she breathes out. "Fine." She withdraws her hand, rising to her feet. "She's all right. Come on, I'll walk you there unless you want me to go ask a dragonhealer to come here, and tell you more about the joys of bringing down your chamber pot along the way. Unless weyrs here all have privies?" It's a slim chance, but Tela can hope.

".... ch-chamber pot?" N'ky might be more grossed out, if he wasn't worrying about Cailluneth and her itty bitty boo-boo. The bulky green touches her foot tentatively to the ground, pulling it back up quickly - too dramatically, really, especially considering the smallness of her affliction, but N'ky panics over it nevertheless. "N-nononono, d-don't put your paw down, Cai, k-keep it up -- there, like that." He praises the first three-legged steps she takes towards the dragon infirmary. N'ky looks to Telavi, holding out his hand towards her and waving her closer with a wiggle of his fingers... which might also look like an invitation to hold hands. "She's hurting," he winces when the blonde catches up to him, Cailluneth leading the way to their destination.

< Aw! Weyrling teamwork. <3 I like the mention of how close N'ky and Cailluneth are, and Telavi and Solith aren't. *laughs* And if it's this big a deal for a tiny pebble... well, let's hope that Cai never really gets any big boo-boos. <3
