Storerooms, High Reaches Weyr

Massive in scale, the Weyr's main storage passage connects to the kitchen on one end and the outbound tunnel on the other. Large enough to admit a wagon laden with goods, the tunnel easily permits the unloading and organization of supplies into the various storerooms.

Branching off from this corridor are multiple caverns, the nearer two being 'open' stores from which residents can readily help themselves, while the deeper stores are kept locked up tight with a posted sign and inventory hung on a hook outside of each. An alcove next to the public stores serves as a catch-all area for reshelving items whose destination is uncertain; two sets of stone shelving and several bins hold these items neatly until a stores assistant has a moment to deal with them.

Though the storage caverns vary in size, shape, and the smoothness of their walls, all belong to the same system: whitewashed walls, swept floors, and most importantly, neatly labeled and inventoried shelves providing ample space to stow all the supplies a busy Weyr needs. Though there's no direct internal lighting, a glowbasket may be brought in from the niche outsde each cavern, the better to ward off pests and the inky dark of deep caves.

Autumn has hit in earnest over the past couple of sevendays, and the weather has turned increasingly cool - and even, sometimes, outright cold. That means that the clothing in the storerooms has probably been fairly well picked-over, though on the other hand, the tithes have begun to come in, which may mean /new/ things. On this moist, but not outright wet, afternoon, K'del has taken down a box full of woollen sweaters, which he is sorting through on the floor, methodical, but with his nose upturned: the latest one he's trying on is several inches too short in the sleeves, probably a fairly common problem for the tall man.

Sho has decided that it's about time he, too, tried to find something warm to start wearing. It's definitely already starting to get a little too cold for him. Thus Sho makes his way down to the store rooms at the behest of others to see what he might be able to find. He pauses, however, as he sees the Weyrleader there and he hesitates a bit. Should he come back? He doesn't want to interrupt the...Sho can't help but chuckle at the current sweater, perhaps a little too loud. Oh well, to late now. "Ya look...like ya might be stuck." Pause. "Sir."

The chuckle /does/ make K'del lift his head, but he seems more inclined to grin along with Sho than be annoyed at him for the comment. "Shells. I know, right?" Getting out of it, however, is not /quite/ as difficult as it seems, though it takes a few minutes, during which the Weyrleader's muffled voice is still more or less audible. "Every turn, I just have to /try/, in case someone's been nice to me. And then I always end up shamefaced and at the weavers, handing over hard cash."

Sho grins as he steps further into the stores, taking a look at the same pile K'del is going through. "Well if ya weren't so big then maybe ya wouldn't have such a problem, yeah?" He asks in a teasing voice as he reaches down to try and dig through the same stack of sweaters. He picks out a light colored one and holds it in front of him, trying to judge it's size. Eh. He tosses it back down.

Snorting, "Ah, of course; silly of me. Should've just told myself to stop growing when I had the chance." K'del is teasing about this, of course, though the wrinkle of his nose and the low sigh that escapes as he battles the unfortunate item of clothing back to the pile suggests it's something of a real bother. "Keep that in mind, mm? Don't grow too much." He seems half inclined to give up, at this point, staring at the pile of sweaters, but not actually making any effort to try another one.

Sho digs into the pile again and pulls out another sweater. Nope. Another one...hrm, that one might work...The youth tries it on and finds that it fits rather well, actually. He grins and looks at K'del, raising his hands up. "See...just have ta be normal." He teases, removing the sweater to throw it over his shoulder for later. "I'm sure there's gotta be something here for ya." He adds, leaning down to dig through the pile again. He comes up with a baby's sweater, purple. A grin as he offers it to K'del. "Here ya go."

K'del, the mature, responsible, /sensible/ Weyrleader, sticks his tongue out at Sho for that first comment. The baby sweater, though, he actually takes, examining it between his hands with a surprising amount of seriousness. "Not too far off the mark, actually," he says, after a moment. "Reckon I'll have one of my kids wearing this before the winter is out."

That catches Sho by surprise and he actually falls silent for a second, staring at the Weyrleader. Finally, he says, "You have kids?" He asks, sounding no little bit surprised, and his eyes reflect that surprise as well. He just watches as K'del takes the sweater and looks at it, not saying anything else just yet.

K'del's seriousness seems mostly done with, because as he glances back up from the sweater and towards Sho, he's smiling again. "Mm," he agrees, lifting his hand to display two fingers. "Only little ones, though. Kasey was born over the summer, and the other... Milani's due in the next little while. Soon." His hand returns to the little sweater, smoothing over the soft wool thoughtfully. "Hope the poor things don't end up inflicted with my giantness. Clothing from stores forever!"

Sho just grins and shakes his head, "I'm surprised sir. Well congratulations." He offers before looking over his shoulder. "I just came ta see what was down here real quick. I really have ta get back to the stables. But it was nice ta see you again sir." The youth turns then to prepare to walk out, pausing and looking over his shoulder, "Oh yeah, that bag over there says 'Large Sweaters' sir. Maybe you should try that." A grin before he steps out.
