It's gotten late at the Reaches, Milani left for a while, heading off to Ista to keep an old promise. With the timezone difference though, when she gets back it may already be past midnight at Ista, but it's only just touching half past the ninth hour here. The headwoman's expression is thoughtful as she winds her back way into the celebratory crowds. There's fireworks going off again overhead after the initial show at sundown and the bonfire is still roaring away. Unlike earlier, there's plenty of people dancing around the fire, either in couples or groups of swaying singles. The lake is vacant now in the dark, though there was skating while there was still light to skate by. The sound of a full group of harpers playing in the living caverns drifts this way now and then, contrasting sharply with the pipe-and-drum music out here that's just a little wilder in tenor.

True to yesterday's promise, K'del appears to be neither drunk nor flirted-out nor even danced-out by this point of the evening. The bronzerider is dancing, though, treating a young woman from the lower caverns to a very merry turn about the bonfire. His height, and the uproarious laughter they are sharing, presumably in response to something said between them, make them stand out amidst the other groups, couples and singles about; K'del's voice can be heard above the pipe-and-drum saying, "And that's why dancing is dangerous, Elanda, precisely that."

Milani draws nearer and stands not far away, watching, hands clasping loosely behind her. Her expression is still thoughtful as she observes, though a fond, affectionate smile crosses her face as she catches on to the tone of K'del's voice and the smile on Elanda's face. She doesn't interrupt just now, but keeps them in view, leans a little towards another resident who approaches her to ask a question. "Yes, pretty much until the harpers get tired," she answers about the length of time the music can be expected to be on.

Sweeping Elanda around, K'del catches sight of Milani as she answers that question, and his smile broadens, though his attentions to the young resident don't waver. Her skirts swirl about his black-clad legs, as she giggles at him, and murmurs something in a lower voice. "Would that I could," he tells her, as the song begins to fade away. "But I can't monopolise your time all night. But it's been a pleasure." Elanda looks disappointed, but the young rider twirls her merrily as the music comes to an end, and this is, at least, better than nothing. As she heads off to rejoin her friends, K'del wanders across towards Milani.

There's a happy beam from that resident Milani just answered and as she straightens she catches sight of the bronzerider coming her way. Her own warm smile welcomes him and one of her hands unclasps, extends his way as she takes a half-step to meet him. "Hey there, handsome," she teases him, tilting her head so her eyes meet his. "Having a good evening? You look happy."

K'del reaches out one arm to wrap companionably about Milani's waist, as the other reaches to squeeze the hand she extends towards him. "Hello to you, too, beautiful," he returns, smiling down at her. "Mm, it's been fun. Elanda over there and her friends were most eager to keep me occupied. Amazing, what can change in a turn or so." That last is said wryly, though he doesn't linger on it. "How was Ista?"

Milani's fingers thread through K'del's when the squeeze lessens a little and she steps into the circle of his arm willingly. She laughs a little, aims to draw his hand towards her mouth to brush a kiss to his knuckles. "Good, I'm glad you've been having fun. And I suppose, don't underestimate the power of riding a bronze dragon," she adds with some amusement. His question though, fades her smile and she looks down, then steps closer, rests her head on his shoulder. "Wonderful and confusing and sad all at once." There's a moment's pause and then softly: "We're still asking each other the same question and the answers haven't changed."

"Bronzeriders are much more appealing than normal teenage boys," agrees K'del with mock sadness, letting his hand be drawn, his smile contented. That expression fades as her does, and he squeezes the arm around her, obviously intending it to be comforting, pressing a kiss against the side of her head as she leans it down upon his shoulder. "I'm sorry," he tells her, voice kept to little more than a whisper. "Wish it was easier. Simpler. Straight-forward."

Milani just keeps her head right there, leaning against his shoulder. "Mmm. Though, in the end, we'd have to give each other up, you and me, if the answers did change. If he came home, or I agreed to go there," the headwoman says quietly, and lifts her hand to run up his shirtfront and tug a little at his collar. "Dance with me, Kas? Right now, I'm just going to forget about Ista and enjoy the rest of turnover with you."

Though K'del nods eagerly, clearly intent upon the dance, and the rest of turnover to come, he takes a deep breath to say, quietly, "I'd miss you, if the answers changed. But if you were happy... But. A dance you say? A dance it is. This way!" He keeps his arm about her waist, evidently intent upon leading her towards the dancers in this manner.

Those quiet words draw a new smile from Milani and she leans forward to drop a kiss to the bronzerider's chin. "Mmm. I'd miss you too. Which makes me question some things," the headwoman says slowly. As he makes to lead, she threads her arm around his shoulders and walks with him to where there's room to dance.

The kiss makes K'del smile all over again; he looks genuinely pleased for the concept that she would miss him. And though his brows raise slightly for her latter comment, he doesn't press further - there's a new song starting up, and he's eager to take part in it. Reaching to twine fingers with her again, as the dance begins, he adds, "You haven't missed much, here. But it's been going well. Think everyone's having a good time, and all the decorations look good."

She catches that brow-lift, and though he doesn't ask, Milani does come back to it eventually. "It did seem to be going well earlier," she agrees. "Satiet's taking some time away with her family and she left Tiriana and I in charge. I let Maretta handle outside while I was at Ista. Thing is though once this party gets started, it sort of feeds itself," Millie says with a little laugh. The music starts and she slips into the dance with him, one hand on his shoulder, the other threaded through his. "I'm not sure I'd choose to weyrmate now, if it was an option." Coming back to it. Eventually.

"You and Tiriana? That's going to be interesting. Not that I don't trust /you/," says K'del, with brows raised again, if for a different reason this time. "Mm, seems like that. People know how to enjoy themselves, I suppose." He doesn't respond immediately to her last comment, though there's no doubt that he's heard it, and is considering it thoughtfully. When he does speak, his tone is light. "Won't lie: have to admit I'm glad to hear that."

"I know. I was trying very hard to bite my tongue. I mean, in the end, I'll do what I have to to get things done and keep them running smoothly around here. So you know, sometimes if I can just shut up instead of giving her what-for, that might actually help me do my job more than saying something to her," the headwoman says slowly and thoughtfully. Milani nods though about people enjoying themselves. "You really only have to get a party started, make sure it doesn't go too wild and then pick up after." That silence lets the music take over the whole sound thing for a bit and Millie looks up at K'del thoughtfully when he does speak. "And that's part of why," she says of his answer, then leans in to kiss him once, before lending more of her attention to staying light on her feet.

K'del makes a face, noting, "Resisting the urge to react to her is /hard/. Or maybe I just don't really try." Which is probably more to the truth. "Hope you have better luck with it than me, though, mm, suppose that makes more sense, when you have to work with her." Glancing about, he adds, after a moment, "Really hasn't been any risk of getting wild. Pretty restrained. For the most part." He doesn't ask - doesn't even react - to the 'part of why' comment: he leans across to return the kiss, then lifts his arm with the obvious intention of twirling her.

"I do have to work with her," Milani says quietly, "so I have to figure out to make it work." And her expression is all the more thoughtful for a moment or two. "Mm. It's ... a more subdued turnover. For a lot of reasons, I guess." The lack of reaction to what she said registers as a brief flicker of concern on her face, but then she's distracted by kissing and twirling.

"Know you will. Though I'm sure we're all glad Satiet doesn't take time off more frequently." K'del's lips press into a flat line at the reasons behind the subdued evening, and he nods, but doesn't elaborate. If he notes her flicker of concern, he doesn't react to it, either. As the twirl ends, and he gathers his arm around her again, he leans in for another quick kiss. "Glad you're with me tonight," he tells her, when he breaks away again.

"Everyone deserves a little downtime," Milani says quietly and looks up into his face once she's ducked under his arm. That renewed kiss, his words bring back her smile. "It's good to be home and with you," she agrees and tugs at his collar playfully again. "So, tell me more about your day. Did you see your family?"

"True. And I can't envy her her job." He looks relieved for the return of her smile, matching it with one of his own, as he squeezes in response to her words. "My day? Well. I drilled this morning with the wing, and then yes, I went and saw my family. Nakasha wanted me to bring her back so she could come tonight, but my mother said no. And then I went and collected flowers, as requested, and ran some errands. And not long after that, I got dressed and came out here. Not terribly exciting - but not a bad day. Won't ask about yours: can see the results, all around."

"It's a lot of responsibility," Milani agrees about Satiet's job. She listens though as he goes through the narrative of his day and smiles warmly about the flowers. "Thank you for getting them, they look lovely and really add that extra touch to the living cavern," she tells him earnestly. "Pity about your sister though, I'd have liked to have seen her again and there's plenty of dance partners for her here." She smiles again, brightly and nods. "Busy, but overall ... good. I think it's a good start to the new turn." Suddenly a firework bursts overhead and Milani laughs. "It must be getting close to time. They're going to set off a whole bunch right at midnight."

K'del ducks his head at her comment about the flowers, promising, "It was my pleasure. Kind of fun, really. And they do look pretty. Mm, wish I could've brought her, too. Maybe next turn. Mother is crazy protective about her, suppose because she's the youngest, and a girl. The /last/ thing Kash wants is to be protected, though." His head inclines a few times at her answer, his lips pulled into a smile, though his answer is interrupted by the firework overhead, and he joins in on the laugh. "Must be. Turn nineteen! A clean slate."

"Good, I'm glad it didn't wind up just being another errand to run ... and I can understand that. She wants to live her life," Milani says with a sympathetic smile. "My mother wasn't quite as /protective/ but I was her last one at home and a girl too." Another sparkler goes off in the sky and Millie laughs. "They're so pretty." A new dance tune starts and she looks up at K'del, smiling. "More dancing ... or do you want to just watch the fireworks?"

K'del bobs his head slowly, sighing. "Poor Kash. /Do/ feel bad. I left home completely when I was about her age, maybe a little older, and she's not even allowed to visit here for a night. Hope they'll let her visit, soon. Maybe if I tell them you'll look out for her, too? They liked you." From his expression, and the tone of his voice, he's probably heard nothing but 'and when are you going to bring that Milani girl back?' ever since. "They are. And the way they reflect in the snow, too. Beautiful. Mmm," he considers. "Can't we do both? Maybe off to one side, so we don't get in anyone's way, if we get distracted." By the fireworks.

"I'd be happy to act as ... well, not chaperone, but mentor or whatever," Millie says with a laugh, if it means they'll let her come," the headwoman says though she catches that look on his face and reaches up to touch his cheek lightly. "Sounds good," Millie agrees to his plan.

"I'll ask them, then. She'd be thrilled." K'del looks positively delighted at this, letting out a light, half-laugh as she reaches to touch his cheek. "Especially at the moment. Brennan's going to be a father again, and Kash doesn't much like his wife. She's a complainer." Agreement reached, he shifts, intending to maneuver them towards the edge of the dancers, though progress is interrupted by another firework released above, which K'del pauses to look at, smiling.

"Oh that can't be fun," Milani says with a wrinkle of her nose about the complaining sister-in-law. The headwoman threads her arm around K'del's waist, starts to walk along with him, pauses to look up as well as green and purple sparks shower down from overhead.

K'del's head shakes, and he makes a face, his nose wrinkling in a similar fashion to Milani's. "Not much," he agrees, as they walk, eventually pausing again a short distance away, as yet more fireworks are released. "But Bren loves her, it seems, and their first kid is pretty adorable. Anyway!" He releases a long breath, sighing into the cold night, albeit in a contented kind of manner. "Making any resolutions for the new turn?"

"Love can make a man blind," Milani teases softly and runs a hand up K'del's back, leans into his shoulder again, watching the show up above as the colors start to come closer and closer together. "Mmm ... don't goad Tiriana," she answers with a laugh. Over in the caverns there's the sound of counting down, the only nearby clock being in the cavern. "Almost time," she says softly.

"So I'm told," laughs K'del, drawing Milani close. So much for the dancing - but he, at least, doesn't seem concerned by the lack. "Good one!" he chortles, of Tiriana. "Probably should use that one myself, except that, thankfully, I don't have much to do with her most of the time. But. Suppose mine is to take things as they come. Worry less about-- whatever." His head turns slightly for the countdown, then he grins, head lifting to glance back into the skies. "Nearly." Eight. Seven. Six.

The sky goes crazy with fireworks, all the colors of the rainbow splitting the night. Milani sighs softly and turns to slide both arms up around K'del's neck. "My other resolution, is to just think before I talk in general. And I'll agree on yours. Take things as they come and be happy with what I have, instead of pining after what I don't." Five. Four. Three.

K'del wraps both arms about Milani's waist as she reaches hers about his neck, glancing down at her in preference to the rainbow sky, and nods. "Probably a lesson for all of us. Also, I plan to--" But he runs out of time, the countdown reaching zero right then, so he gives up finishing his sentence in order to lean in and kiss her. "Happy turnover!"

Smooch! Happy turnover! In the wake of that kiss, Milani just smiles. "Happy turnover," she echoes and taps her fingers lightly against the back of his neck. "Plan to what?"

K'del just laughs. "Continue the turn the way I started it: kissing you whenever possible." He winks at her, cheekily, letting out a long, contented breath.

"I'll be sure to make myself readily availble. For kissing. And more," Milani says laughingly in answer and snuggles into his arms happily. "Speaking of which," is said to his shirt, "ready to bail?"

"Oh, good," teases K'del. "It wouldn't do for me to fail in that resolution, after all, would it? Bad start to the turn, if I did." He squeezes in, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, before nodding. "It's /cold/ out here. And I have an idea of how to get us all warmed up."

"Far be it from me to set you up to fail," Milani says, teasing still and then waggles her brows at him. "I am very open to your ideas. All of them," she says quite sincerely. "Lead on."

All smiles, K'del breaks away only to grasp Milani's hand again, as he leads her off towards the bowl, where Cadejoth is waiting. "Then we'll have to explore them. At length. To make sure we're on the same page." The trip up to his weyr doesn't take long, and, once there, he will be more than happy to do just this. At great length.
