OOC Notes: Greatly inspired by Let It Go from the movie Frozen. I haven't seen it yet, but the song/sequence really made me think of Azaylia and Hraedhyth. Loosely tied to a series of vigs, like this one.

It was subtle and familiar, a percussive rumble that only just avoided being mistaken for the thunder outside.

« It is doing it again. »

An observation as well as a summons. Hraedhyth had little hope of sleeping while Cadejoth's tended to the restless infant over in the Weyrleader's Weyr. It wasn't that the creature was so terribly loud, but the unhappy wails upset the queen.

Azaylia wasn't certain when she had decided to wake and untangle from warm arms. She dressed in a rushed daze, spurned on by the restless gold that waited on the ledge. With straps in one hand and heavy cloak in the other, the two were quickly snatched up between.

Even Hraedhyth recognized the snowy peaks which surrounded them, bellowing her challenge to the bitter winds that jostled even her mighty bulk. She fought the torrential gusts, throwing herself into them in order to reach the icy cliff that had become theirs.

It had been a stranger, once.

When Z'ian had his accident.

When it was clear her Weyrleader wasn't returning.

In dealing with Nabol, and with Ienavi.

It wasn't until Cadejoth's desperate, frustrated bellows had echoed throughout the Weyr that the frigid mount became an escape.

A comfort.

Azaylia dropped from Hraedhyth's shoulders to run toward the jagged edge, eyes filled with the dark oblivion that awaited any who might fall from the lip. She could feel the heat well up inside her, body consumed by her lifemate's fire even as she filled her lungs with frigid air.

She let forth a scream into the violent, uncaring winds. In her next breath, Hraedhyth joined her.

It was a release that no man could offer.

A cathartic rush that the queen would never find in a slaughtered beast.

Each primal roar was followed by a pulse of power; an energy that was always hilted and so rarely used. A power that threatened to scorch Azaylia's thoughts from her mind. Instead, the Weyrwoman let it wash over her, buckling under her queen's influence and thrusting arms back as she screamed into the night.

So far from home, it was safe to unleash themselves on the frozen peaks.

Safe to ignore the pressure and pain that drove them to such lengths.

Gradually, Hreadhyth's heat began to ebb, leaving Azaylia to the mercy of snow and ice. The raw sting of her throat was felt over numb face and fingers as she stared out into the distance. It wasn't until Rukbat began to peek through dark clouds that the goldrider thought to turn back towards her dragon.

Azaylia's fingers were thick and clumsy, making it hard to climb the straps and back onto Hraedhyth. Both were oblivious to the cold, despite how the Weyrwoman would pay for her carelessness in the coming days.

Hraedhyth was eager to leap back into the rough winds, dawn's light caressing her dusty sails as they battled for altitude. With only a few wing beats, their mountain was no longer visible, swallowed up by the flurry.

Feel better?

In a seamless blend of gentle soprano and rumbling contralto,

« Yes. »

Racing Rukbat home, the Weyrwoman would slip back into her weyr before morning truly began.

< I love Azalylia's vignettes, but this one especially. Not to mention Let it Go Is a pretty awesome song (cute movie as we'll) what I love is capturing that same feeling of release, but more refined and in tune with Zay and Hraedhyth

< I have so TOTALLY done this enough times. Find a very private place...and holler and scream and bellow to let it all out.
