| Weyrling Barracks, High Reaches Weyr(#395RAJs) Tucked off the back of the training room, the barracks are a huge, high cavern that stretches far back into the stone of the Weyr. Both of the longer walls are lined with couches for the dragons, enough for a couple of Pass-sized clutches at once, each matched with a cot and press for the weyrling dragonrider. In this day and age, however, the couches in the back have been allowed to grow dusty with long disuse. Hearths are spaced between every few couches to heat the big room. For decoration, there are a number of tapestries on the walls, looking almost as beat-up as the couches out in the training room, but scattered flower pots with their bright blooming contents provide a cheery touch. Additionally, some of the couches have had graffiti scratched into them over the Turns that were never quite cleaned off: smears of chalk messages or even rough pictures, some not fit for young eyes. In many cases names and dates have been painstakingly carved into the rock, a record of those that once made their home here.
Ghislaith rests along one side of the cot, her lanky form still and silent in the dark. The only hint that she's awake the whirling luminescence of her eyes, yellow worry betraying the emotion beyond the calm. It's possibly harder to see her rider, but Sabs is awake as well. Though she closes her eyes when the footsteps begin to move, coming closer to where she lays awake. The person moving towards them turns out to be N'ky and she releases the tight grip that she had on the edges of the blanket, pulled close to her chin protectively. "I'm fine." She answers, quiet with a hoarse quality to her tone. Swallowing, "I'm fine. You can go back to sleep, sorry if I woke you." That comes out stronger, more clear even if she's speaking just as low. "But you s-sorta... sounded not-ok," N'ky persists, pulling his blanket tighter around his shoulders as he looks from the girl to her dragon, the latter of which gets a sympathetic sort of look. "Ghislaith looks upset, Sabs." Cailluneth croons with whispery softness to her sister, her own eyes whirling blue-green. With a soft sigh, N'ky slips into the couch, a step closer to the cot. "Um... I was awake, anyway. I d-don't sleep so well. Want me to s-sit with you, for a while?" "I"m fine.." Sabella repeats, with more feeling this time. She begins to move up in the cot anyway, sitting up and bringing her knees closer to her chest protectively. Her glance shifts furtively to Ghislaith off to the one side. "This is her own fault, she had to go looking where I told her not to look." There's a hitch in her voice along the way and she stops speaking. The green remains still in the darkness save for the twitch of her tail, her returning croon for Cailluneth is soft in the silence. Her hands rub roughly at her face and she exhales slowly after his question. "If you want to. I won't tell you to go again." That's all the invitation N'ky needs. He ignores the fact that he's not necessarily wanted, and plods in to sit on the opposite end of the cot to where Sabella is. His blanket is curled tight around his bare chest, the over-long legs of his sleeping pants covering his slippered feet. Cailluneth comes in to curl up on the floor by him, facing Ghislaith and rumble-purring comfortingly to her. N'ky is silent for a long moment, unaware if it's uncomfortable. "You d-did s-sorta scream, then?" There's probably something uncomfortable in this for Sabella as she watches him from across the cot. Knees up and blanket held against her in the dark, she allows the silence to drag on until he asks his question. It's then that she looks away from N'ky, eyes drifting to Ghislaith there by her. There's a certain element contained within the quiet and the night maybe, because she looks about to speak and then stops. Eventually and maybe at a point when it seems like she won't answer at all, "Yes." N'ky is patient. Waiting for an answer that may or may not come doesn't bother him; he'll sit there quietly, hugging his knees to his chest, looking down at Cailluneth. "Oh," he says softly when Sabella gives her answer, looking up at her. "Um... my little s-sister would have bad dreams. She used to like a hug.... w-would you like one, to help you sleep? N-nothing funny, I promise." He holds out one blanket-covered arm, beckoning her in a flick of his fingers. She's not looking at N'ky when he initially answers, her eyes still locked to her dragon next to the cot. Her expression is carefully neutral when he speaks, but something at the end garners her attention. There's a quick break-away of light, sad sounding laughter from Sabs. Gaze flickering to the outstretched arm she glances at that flick of his fingers. With some hesitance, she creeps forward slowly on the cot and slips her slim arms around him and the blanket, nestling her chin on top of his shoulder. In return, N'ky curls his arms around Sabella, resting his cheek atop her head. He's good at the big brother-type hugs, and he's got an easy hold that is comforting without being stifling. "Y-you can tell me about it, um, i-if you want, Sabs. I'm a good secret-keeper. Ask Waki." Cailluneth growls her approval, wuffling softly to Ghislaith. "But you d-don't have to. It's ok, I-I can just..." He yawns, covering his mouth with his hand, "... sit here." She exhales against him, the tension not exactly easing right away. "I can't talk about it." Not that she doesn't want to, but there's just a block there that keeps her from articulating anything further. Her breath hitches again and she stills herself, stuffing down whatever new wave of emotion was getting started. "I believe you, N'ky. You don't have to, you..." He's yawning and she's pulling back to gauge how tired he really is. "You should make sure you don't fall asleep here. You'll get in trouble." "You don't h-have to," N'ky says with soft reassurance and a gentle squeeze. He leans back to let Sabella look at him, giving her a crooked, tired smile. Tired, but not entirely on the verge of sleep. Not just yet. "I won't f-fall asleep, Sabs, promise." One arm will remain draped loosely around her back until she either pulls away completely or comes back to him for a hug, in which case it tightens up around her once more. "Can Ghislaith help you to, um, d-dream nicer things?" Sabella exhales again, wrapping her arms around him and hiding her face. "Thank you." She moves around and adjusts so that she can speak to him without her voice being muffled. "You're really- You're a good person. You don't have to be this nice to me." It's a hint that maybe, if he wanted to, he could get up and leave and she would understand. Possibly wouldn't even blame him for it. "No, I don't think so. I don't know. She's the reason that I've been having them, I want her to stop it. But." To no avail so far. N'ky gives Sabella another brotherly squeeze, pressing his cheek back to the top of her head. "I w-want to be nice to you," he says quietly. Cailluneth rests her head on the edge of Ghislaith's couch, and the weyrling teen peeps over at her. "M-maybe Cailluneth can share some of her thoughts with Ghislaith? Um... maybe it will help." He doesn't sound hopeful, and his dragonet looks like she's ready to snooze. "Sabs? Um... I need to get Cai back to our couch..." She's the one who's tired, and the green is far too big to be carried now! "Um... you know you c-can come talk to me, though? Any time. I d-don't sleep so well, like I said, so, um... c-come find me? If you dream bad things again?" The girl gives him a quick squeeze for his response, even if she doesn't say anything outloud for it. His next suggestion has her glancing over at the pair of greens on the floor, even as she begins to unwind herself from him. "Maybe." But there's the same sort of doubt laced into her tone as well. Sabs sits back, folding her hands over onto her lap. N'ky gets a tired smile from her and she tilts her head in the direction of his couch. "Go on, get her to sleep before you can't move her again." Her eyes flicker away and back again for the last part. Softly, "I know. If it happens again, I'll come find you." N'ky leans in for one last squeezy-hug, then he pulls his blanket tight around his bare torso again, giving Sabella a tired smile. "T-try and sleep." He slips off the cot, crouching down to rouse the half-asleep Cailluneth with a gently rocking hand. Her eyes open slowly, whirling tiredly, but she gets to her feet with a huff of warm breath. A gentle mindtouch reaches to Ghislaith, enveloping her in a sleepy, night-sky bubble. « Sleep, » she echoes N'ky, settling a soothing mental lavender blanket over her sister. « We sleep close. » A welcoming wave of silver to fortify her weyrling's words that they're welcome to be disturbed. "Good night, 'Bella." A nickname he's not used since their first meeting, but N'ky lets it slip since there's no-one else around to hear it. He waves to her, waggling his fingers, then lets Cailluneth lead the way back to where their mattress nest awaits. Someday Ghislaith will say more than two or three words to another dragon. But tonight isn't that night. Yet she responds to Cailluneth. It's the soft closing of a creaky door, a farewell of sorts as her sister leaves to go to sleep. Acknowledgement that she's close in the way she leaves a warped window open an inch, to still hear her. "I'll try, good night N'ky." Sabs smiles crookedly at the use of the nickname she's not a fan of. But her sigh doesn't come with a complaint, she eases down onto the cot again and pulls that blanket up. Sleep doesn't come right away, but it does come eventually. |
