Makai comes onto the sands with an excited swirl of his beautiful amber eyes. He looks around to see where everyone is, then is suddenly aware of the heat under his feet and starts to shift from foot to foot. His eyes widen as he surveys the rocking eggs, hopping from foot to foot in anticipation.

Noir Egg makes another little half turn, then there is a little upset sounding outburst from inside.

Divya is a bit late following G'non in, since she took the time to shed her jacket and gloves before walking out to the heat of the Sands. She takes her position off to one side and quietly watches the Candidates and eggs.

The candidates all string out along the sands, forming a arcing semi-circle around the mound of eggs. They all bow, not quite in unison, to the dragons and weyrleaders back beyond the mound as the humming of the dragons reaches a deafening roar.

Scarlet with the Knife Egg sproings from it's nest in the sands, driven by the excited struggles of the life within.

Kalina's expression is full of doubt, as she steps with her partner onto the sand, hurriedly pulling into position around the rocking eggs. She's not able to see everything that's going on, but the movement of the Noir Egg is noted, and watched with blinking hesitation. "Oh Faranth, I can't do this," she whispers, her head shaking. "Oh, Faranth."

G'non joins Divya and Amilin to one side, allowing himself a genuine grin now as he watches the Candidates fan out.

With a shudder, a long crack forces it's way down the length of the The Feline Who Wasn't There Egg. The force of the blow causes it to slide down the small mound of sand propping it up. From the narrow end of the egg, smaller cracks start to spread across the surface. Every time the egg jerks to one side, another crack streaks its way outward from the initial fissure. A shatter is heard, just as a brown head pokes its way out of the new hole. Poking at his confinement a few more times, and the egg opens like a winter coat, leaving the brown dragonet lying half in and half out of his old home. His gaze whirls around a bit until he spots a group of young boys standing nearby. The dragonet rolls over in the sand, onto his legs, carrying a good sized portion of shell on his back. The brown dragonet sits down in front of the boys, crooning, as a boy steps up to him and kneels, wiping tears from his eyes. The young boy from Fort Hold pulls the shell from the dragonet's back, and says to him, "It's OK. There is food nearby. This man will show us where it is," as one of the assistants arrives to walk them from the sands.

Matheny gives S'rist a relieved look the group of candidates reach the sands safe and sound before the first egg cracks.

Jel breaks from Cierra's side, perhaps fleeing the pressure of a partner's expectations. He chooses a space between relative strangers, candidates he need not talk to, need not look at. His back is to the galleries. Does he fear the audience's expectations as well?

Maelyan places a foot on the sand before gripping tighter on Ryse's hand. With her free hand, though, she gestures towards Kirana, perhaps dragging Ryse along with her on her path to her friends. "Come on. I've got to get warmed up. I'm freezing!" Egg movements aren't the least bit regarded as Maelyan attemptts to steer herself towards Kirana and the others. "I think I'm going to be sick."

S'rist smiles, "There's the first one, they got here just in the nick of time." He steps over closer to Matheny and reaches out for her hand.

Cierra looks around to locate Carianna and heads in that direction, standing as close to her as possible as the first egg release's it's dragon. "A brown? And so quick!"

Ysabel walks out with Jhenni, trying to see all around her at once. The blue tinge of cold starts to fade with the warmth of the sands as she stares at the moving eggs, jumping backwards slightly when the first dragon hatches. "Oh!" she cries softly. "Oh, oh..."

Jhenni exchanges one extreme for the other, moving from Winter's cold to Sands' fierce heat on feet that felt neither one. Her attention is elswhere -- adrenalin serving to dampen any discomfort -- and with shakey but determined steps she takes her place with the rest. Ysabel's hand is given a strong squeeze. "Oh /look/ Izzy. They're hatching!" No kidding.

From the grainy black Noir Egg a rounded and temperamental young bronze dragon has emerged.

Geridon gasps, startled as a brown hatches before he's hardly gotten into his place in the loose semi circle of white robed Candidates. "Look.." his voice trails as the brown quickly Impresses.

Temperamental Cynical Bronze

The warmth of a newly forged metal encases this overweight dragonet. His rich bronze hide accents his portly body, drawing attention to his developing form and the strong line of a tail that is edged with the faintest trace of a mica brightness. Although his hide looks as smooth and polished as a bottle of premiere ale, the lighter yellowed platinum of his hide pours over his chest and belly, breaking apart the uniformity of the deeper color. His wedge-shaped head is large, his squashed snout and headknobs complete the striking character of this young bronze genius. His voice is brusque, arrogant in an extreme and his movements sedentary. They shall come to him.

Merwen had a loose and clammy grip on Samron's hand as they settle into their place in the arc of bodies. She gasps as the first impression is made, finding it to be so different from what she expected.

Makai watches as the eggs start to hatch with widened eyes. He strains to see what colors have hatches, standing on tippy to look over the other eggs. "Do you see which ones have hatched?" he asks to the candidate beside him. He shuffles his feet, amber eyes glowing.

Divya grins like a wherry, as the first one hatched and Impressed is a brown. Go browns!

Carianna smiles briefly then moves into position in the semi half circle watching the eggs with excitement. The hand she holds gets squeezed in encouragement before a wink is sent to the other candidates. "Oh a brown already!" She exclaims then congratulates the impression.

"Aiee! Hot feet, hot feet, hot feet!" Kaneda complains now that his frozen toes are out on the sands. Jiggling amusingly from one leg to the other, the Candidate suddenly remembers the pins in his too-large robe, and pulls them out to stand on the hem. "Ahhh ..." Then he sees the bronze. "Aiee!" he shouts again. "Its comin' right for us!" Though thats hardly accurate.

Scarlet with the Knife Egg rolls over and then back again as small cracks and scars form over the heat hardened surface.

Redus walks with Cari to a spot in the semi-circle, but his attention is on the already active eggs. Squeezing the girls hand he says, "There's one out. No two. Hold steady."

Kalina's eyes widen, as the brown hatches, her interest in his impression ensuring that she misses the hatching of the bronze altogether. She almost smiles, briefly.

Makai watches another candidate Impress with a sigh. Oh well, he watches each egg hatch with a bright smile and amber excitement spinning around in his spot excitedly. "Oh, what a pretty Bronze!" he exclaims.

Kirana swivels her head this way and that. "Oh, I dunno where ter look!"

G'non grins. "A bronze this early? A good sign. Congratulations E'dar," he says, as the lad with the brown isescorted out.

Cierra blinks at the bronze. "Now, isn't he interesting looking? I don't think I've seen another quite like it." She looks around, perhaps wondering who he's meant for. She starts to shift her sandaled feet in the sand already, trying to avoid either extremity getting too hot.

Temperamental Cynical Bronze gives a look about the sands, and then just sits there. Looking almost as if in a disinterested pout. He shifts a bit about on the sand to get comfortable. Then he turns his head to look over the unhatched eggs, admiring them as if they were a display of exotic orchids.

Ryse rocks on the sands and squeezes Maelyan's hand. He grins when he sees the young bronze dragon, but says nothing. Too much is happening.

Maelyan finally makes it to Kirana, sighing in relief while grinning towards Ryse. "Now, it all starts. I'm still going to be sick, though, I bet." She rubs at her eyes with her hand before extending it towards Kirana. "Come on. I've got to keep you on the sands, don't I?" Bronze hatchling is regarded with a keen look before Maelyan breaths again. "He's a individual bronze."

Ysabel can't speak. An awed expression on her face she stands stunned, staring at the bronze, the rocking eggs, and occasionally at the other candidates. Her feet are forgotten in the excitement of the moment, and a smile crosses her face. "Arrogant little beast, isn't he?"

Divya nods and says to her fellow AWLM, "But I'm glad a brown Impressed first. I just won a quarter-mark off that greenrider Cissa from Ista, who bet a green would be the initial one."

Geridon whistles softly under his breath, his hand unconsciously gripping Kirana's even tighter. "Just stay on your toes," he murmurs.

An energetic and suave brown hatches from the Scarlet with the Knife Egg and is ready for action.

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown

Smooth mahogany rivers move over the hide of the hatchling in simple, strong lines that announce a story of strength, breaking the uniformity of the rich brown hide. Enveloped in the warmth of the colors, each movement he makes accents his lean, handsome form. The splash of color flows smoothly down his compact frame to meet in a mixture of mahogany and carob brown at the tip of the long tail. The carob brown hide shimmers over his wing membranes from the leading to the trailing edges, as if he is wearing an expensive, well-tailored suit. He is tough and suave, his actions betray his view of the world. His whirling eyes are sharp, taking in his surroundings with an appreciation.

Kaneda frowns at the pudgy bronze. "Its just sitting there after all," he complains, seeming to wish rather that the dragonet would 'come right for them' after all. "Isn't it su'pposed to come over here?" he asks Makai.

G'non nudges Divya. "And another," he murmurs, pointing out the new brown. "If it's browns you were wagering on, you should do well."

Jel is totally present and yet totally absent, perhaps overwhelmed by sights he wants to see and emotions he wants to flee. Many know that he thinks of candidacy as just an adventure to be had, and that's it. And yet as much he may want to savor this experience, its consequences have become all too real. His head bobs erratic. To see and not to see.

Amilin chuckles softly to Divya as she keeps a watchful eye on the candidates and hatchlings, "Good bet then."

Kirana is apparently too overawed to move. Not scared, but just. . . still. Very still. only her eyes move, looking around from dragon to candidate and back.

Kalina is not really managing to keep up- she looks this way, and then she looks that way, but she's still looking in the wrong way as the brown hatches, her feet shuffling upon the sands. "I think, maybe, I can do this," she mutters, to herself. "Maybe."

A timid sort of quiver seems to pass over the Banded Serpentine Egg. A moment or two pass and then another quiver of the same hesitant type once again seems to take hold of the egg. Suddenly the egg takes a jump to the left and then rolls slightly back to the right. Another jump sends it left again and then as it starts to roll right once more a pair of green legs burst out from the bottom. The young dragonet gives a violent shaking thrust and sends the egg shards flying around randomly until she stands free upon the sands. It's not long before a flamboyant young fellow finds himself happily impressed to this new green.

Carianna chuckles as she watches the bronze for a moment. "He's not going anywhere fast. I wonder what he's looking at?" Her feet moves up and down in the sands trying to shake off the bots of hot burning that tickle the skin.

Another Dimension Egg shudders in the sands, the movement almost imperceptible. Did it really move? No, there it is again. Tiny shudders briefly touch the egg as its occupant examines a potential Best Way Out.

Cierra watches the bronze and then looks around at the candidates around here. "Maybe he'll get the idea when more of the other hatchlings start moving and finding candidates?"

Jhenni's excitement is evident in her short and jerky movements, the continually shifting from one foot to the other, and the occasional squeak of delight that escapes her despite all her efforts to the contrary. She /watches/, all a'trembling. "C'mon blue, I want to see a blue."

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown shakes his shells off and quickly takes in the situation, one big bronze genius doing nothing and a whole lot of suspects to case. He might as well get started, the chance to stretch his new legs alone will make it all worth while. He darts forward and starts to look over the candidates, one by one.

Divya applauds as A'zara finds a lifemate to match his sense of flair.

Kaneda almost forgets to shift from foot to foot, even as he stands on the hem of his robe, staring at the imperious bronze, and now this great brown fellow, both of whom seem to be taking their sweet time ... "Uh oh .. that one's moving quick!" he says, hiding behind another candidate.

Redus watches, not yet shifting his feet much in the sand. The bronze that just sits is enough to let him spy the newest brown hatchling. "Will ya look at that?" he says quietly as his eyes follow him.

Maelyan latches onto Kirana's free hand, having seen that her friend is incapable of moving herself. "Bronze, brown? There's too many!" Then, she turns her eyes to her shoes. "Hot, hot! My feet feel sticky."

Makai does the candie dance from foot to foot.

Cierra smiles at the brown. "Now *that* one could teach the other a thing or two, don't you think?" She watches him just as closely as he seems to be examining them, though she remembers not to let her feet stay still for too long.

Temperamental Cynical Bronze continues to sit there. Eyeing one of the eggs that just moved for a moment, but then it looses his interest. He gives a brief look at the brown that is already out looking over all the candidates, then looks away again, not interested in that either.

Geridon is tense, his eyes flickering back and forth from rocking eggs, to dragonet hatchlings. "The green," he says, elbowing softly and sighs as she Impresses to A'zara. "Good match."

Kirana briefly nods at Maelyan. "Get ready to move," she mumurs. "Remember what they said about getting out o' their way."

Samron gets a spray of sand on him as a dragonet rushes by and has to stop holding the other candidates' hands to brush it off. He still looks very excited though and voices his approval of the energetic looking brown.

Kalina's right foot is lifted, once she has placed her left foot back down upon the sands, her fingers wringing together, sweaty palms met in front of her.

Another Dimension Egg barely moves as a steady tap-tap-tap sounds from within. Almost like knocking for a hidden door -- there couldn't be one of those there, but one never knows -- the tapping surely but steadily increases in intensity, tentative at first and then more sure. Or more impatient.

Jel crosses his arms, and certainly not for the cold. But then he forces his arms to his sides. Perhaps, again, he is conscious of perception. Yes, he's calm. Yes, believe it. Please?

Ysabel starts shifting from foot to foot. The heat is making itself known, but the dragons are far more interesting. "Why won't the bronze move? The brown is fast enough...did you see that green?" She keeps up a steady commentary on events as she spots them.

Maelyan raises her head and glances over at Kirana. "How can I move if it feels like my feet /won't/ move, even if I tried?" Maelyan leans forward a bit to look at Ysabel, grinning to herself. "Maybe he's just lazy, Ysa." Aren't all bronzes like that?

Ryse begins to look a little tense as more dragonets emerge from their eggs. He is prepared to move at a moment's notice - out of the way of their claws. But for now he shifts rhythmically from one foot to the other.

Carianna lets her gaze travel over the hide of the brown and she smiles. "He'll be a strong one." But her attention moves back to the still sitting bronze. "You don't think he is too weak from hunger to move do you? I'd hate to hear that one of the hatchlings is sick."

A loud bang is heard from near the center of the sands. In the spot where the Canine's Clue Egg was sitting, there is now a wobbly blue dragonet, shards of egg surrounding him on all sides. He clumsily begins to run towards a grouping of boys, passing them as they jump out of the way. The blue dragonet screeches to a halt, and spins around, catching the eyes of a young Southern Boll lad. The boy finds that he doesn't have the capacity for words, but his new lifemate calms him until he is aware of the assistant standing nearby. The new dragonet follows closely, as the assistant escorts them over to the food.

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown Is efficient and thorough as he looks over first one candidate and then the next. After a close look at one of the brown eyed lads he pivots quickly on his heel and rushes over to where the lethargic bronze is and rumbles thoroughly in something that looks for all the world like a kind of report. The dapper brown then takes a step back and stares intently at his older brother as if this alone will bring him into action.

Redus nods at the assessment of the brown then, having noticed the Dimensional egg is somewhat active, he smiles. "And I think that on'es shell is too thick." he remarks before scanning the sand again.

Geridon shakes his head, turning to look closely at the bronze. "He's methodical," he says softly. "Wants to be sure he's not making any mistakes." He glances down at Kirana, grinning.

Cierra chuckles at the brown's actions. "Was he looking over us for himself, or for that bronze? Wonder when he'll make his own decision of which of us to take for himself."

Merwen jumps and then tries to be still as a brown dragon looks her over. She wipes her hands over her robe as they seem to sweat thoroughly.

Kaneda does not care as long as they stop rushing towards the Candidates in such a hurried manner. "Like a herdbeast on a rampage .. hope no one gets injured," he mutters, standing on the hem of his robes as he weaves back and forth to avoid the heat of the sands.

Kirana nods to Geridon. "Or maybe the one he's lookni' for ain't here."

Jhenni has reconnected.

Ysabel tugs at her robe with her free hand. "Come on." she murmurs, squinting at the dragons. "Hurry up already. Do /something/." She notices she's worrying her robe and yanks her hand away, scowling at the damp spot her sweatly palm left.

Temperamental Cynical Bronze turns and looks at the slick looking brown, listening to his warbling and then giving in response a bellowing bugle. Then he looks away, back towards the rest of the unhatched eggs. Then he gives one more little rumble almost as an afterthought, without looking back.

Kalina wipes her hands upon the already sweat-stained surface of her robe, then letting them fall by her sides as she takes a step to the right, and then another to the left. She doesn't manage to speak- she's busy eyeing the hatchlings, as she can get them within her gaze, and then the eggs, hopeful - doubtful.

Carianna turns to Cierra and nods then chuckles softly so as not to upset the hatchlings. "You may be right." She comments then turns back to watch the interaction of hatchlings as each foot is given a vigorous shaking. "Doesn't the sand burn you Red?"

Jel faces a stunning mix of shells, candidates, and dragonets. And he finds himself alone. But it's one thing to be alone and another thing to be lonely. And here he is ... alone -and- lonely? And perhaps he recalls G'non's advice? So he glances at Geridon, and at Kirana, and at Maelyan. No, he won't go there. Carianna? The petite baker? Or the dark girl. The one so like him? Then a dragonet snags his attention. But both are in agreement. Neither wants the other.

A crack appears on The Revered Relic Egg, and slowly additional cracks appears on it's surface. A large piece finally detaches from the egg and a green hatchling daintly steps out of it. She seems about to move away from her egg when she looks at herself and the egg goo still clinging to her wings. She shakes one wing and then the other, getting as much of it off as possible before turning her attention to the shards from her egg. One wing brushes the pieces into a neat little pile, and when she's finally satisfied she and her last home look their best she heads towards some white things she sees in the distance. She walks carefully, making sure to accumulate as little sand on her feet as possible, and steers clear of any messy obstructions along the way. When she finally comes to the candidates she looks at each one in turn, stopping half way through to brush off an egg shard she missed from her side. She's about to move on when she notices someone particularly interesting, and meticulously makes her way to a young girl whose first reaction is to embrace her lifemate and second is to straighten her robe. Quite a pair these two will make, the young girl being as careful as her lifemate as they leave the sands together.

Geridon blinks, looking at the bronze. "Now what was all *that* about?" He shifts his feet in the sands, as they rapidly have rapidly thawed from the sleet and snow outside.

It's elementary you see, that where the Egg of Another Dimension was there is now a scarlet brown dragon to see.

A Study in Scarlet Brown

Wraithlike and hungered, this newly hatched specimen of dragonhood joins the world with a haunting presence that could draw the attention of the most casual observer regardless of his hide's hue. Like his sire he is reddish with a bronze touch and like his dam, this hue is on the shadowed end of the spectrum wrapping his hide in a darkly shadowed scarlet wine that is without variation from the tip of his tail to the majestic crown of his headknobs. He is so excessively lean that he seems to be considered both taller and longer than his kindred though if he were to stand shoulder to shoulder with the others in his clutch he would not be considered large. Glowing now with the red taint of ravenous appetite his eyes are sharp and piercing though later they will be shown to also possess a look of thoughtful torpor when the calm of physical satisfaction is upon him. His thin, hawk-like muzzle gives his whole expression an air of alertness and decision. This dragonet's head too, has a prominence and squareness that seems to mark him with determination.

Jhenni does her best to stand there and look impressible: head up, chin out, scrawny shoulders thrown back, bare feet slightly apart for both balance and quick-escape if a dragonet heads at her too quickly. Nevermind she looks like a dark stick-insect inside a white turber-sack, despite all Ysabel's efforts to make her look presentable. "There he goes -- and look, another green. And oh look at that ruddy brown! How lovely."

Maelyan begins shifting from foot to foot - a bit late, rather, since she's already complaining about hot feet - and jumps promptly. "We'd better get ready to start jumping right now, Kira. They're coming really fast." Thus, Maelyan takes to sending fleeting glances at one dragonet, then another, before shaking her head. "I can't see them all."

Kirana looks at GEridon quickly with a puzzled expression. "What was what all about?" THen she notices the brown. "Oh. Look at that one!"

Redus' eyes fall on the Cynical one for a moment, catching the lack of interest; something makes him chuckle until he hears a question and he replies with a shrug. "Pain is all in one's head." he says with a smirk then he ohs at the sight of a new brown.

Makai says "That must be the most unique brown in the weyr, I've never seen another like him."

Geridon shakes his head unknowingly. "Don't ask me.." he follows her gaze and grins. "What a beauty," he says, before looking at the other dragons on the sands. "Watch it now, lots of them walkinga round now."

Kaneda points to the scarlet brown, nudging Jhenni. "That one looks all bloody!" he coos excitedly, apparently enjoying the simile that this dragonet carries in his hide. "Thats .. so sharding amazing!" The magic of a hatching at least, keeps this Hold lad in thrall ... until the dragonets start running towards him again.

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown flexes his wings and looks at the bronze a moment before he shrugs and moves towards the crowd. He starts to gently herd a group of candidates towards where the lazy bronze awaits by using his wings and wedge shaped head. In the group he tries to nab Cierra, Ryse, Samron, and Barzerk. Will they follow?

Ysabel giggles at the green and her new lifemate, then frowns as another brown hatches. "I hope this one does more than the bronze and other brown. He's...interesting, isn't he?"

Carianna lifts an eyebrow as she blinks at Redus' words. "What?" She questions then turns to look over the new brown. Her eyes widen with the sight that leaves her speechless.

Jhenni has partially disconnected.

The Steward's Image Egg begins to shudder in a more pronounced manner. Sand begins to loosen from its own mound and fall away and slowly, ever so slowly, it begins to creep down on its side. The egg stills for a moment and then there are three resounding *Tap* *tap* *tap* from within.

Jhenni shuffles a few spaces away from the wriggling egg.

Cierra looks from the new brown to the bronze and back again. "Well, I don't think they could be any different than they are, in looks at least." She's distracted by the brown trying to herd her, and she decides it's best not to make him mad and goes along with it. Even if it's just to make sure there's space between her and his claws.

Ryse wipes his hands on his robes. The heat of the sands is beginning to get to him. His steady movement continues. His eyes follow the Brown dragon. He grins.

Kalina takes a few deep breathes, as if trying out controlled breathing, feet lifting one after the other as she attempts to keep them somewhat cool. Her eyes - nervous, and perhaps even slightly teary - seek around the sands, as if searching for one thing that she can concentrate on to the exclusion of all else.

Jel finds himself shoved to one side, as the candidate to his left meets his lifemate. He stares at them, showing no envy. And then he grimaces. Like a stilt-legged river avian, he perches on one foot, so as to pick bits of shell from the sole of the other.

A Study in Scarlet Brown steps languidly from his shards, giving them a calculated glance before sweeping his gaze across the assemblage. An almost leisured swipe of his tailtip rids him of the last of the egg-bits, and he widens his wings a moment, reddish shadows glistening with moisture. Slowly those delicate wings fold themselves about him almost like a cloak, and the brown hatchling turns his gaze slowly, educatedly toward the candidates. Well, well, well. What have we here?

Samron finds himself being hounded by a brown dragon and quickly shuffles his feet to move over there he's to be placed. He blinks at the bronze dragon curiously, starting to wonder if he's able to move himself around at all.

Redus starts to laugh as he's not included in the action of the herder dragon; he just points with his free hand then turns to Cari. "Well, it's not like I'm cut." he says as he turns back to the spectacle.

Ysabel watches the Steward's egg with wide eyes and takes a few steps back, clutching at Jhenni's hand. "I really don't like that egg, and it's moving..." She so busy staring at it she misses the herding of the other candidates towards the bronze.

Barzerk smirks to his fellow candidates. "Destiny awaits!" he calls. Tropping obediently along with the brown, he wanders.

Divya murmurs to the AWLMs, "The bronze and brown are certainly taking their own sweet time to decide who they'll choose. Wonder if they're setting a record?"

Kaneda grins at Ysabel, hooking his hands into claws. "Its coming to geeet you!" he teases the other Candidate lass, wriggling his fingers menacingly like a spinner, gesturing to the Steward's Image Egg.

Geridon elbows Kirana again, as the brown starts rounding up candidates. "Look," he says, jerking his head toward them. Barzerk's comment makes him roll his eyes in exasperation.

Merwen rubs her sleeve at her forehead and then drops her arms and steps back and forth on the sands. Her eyes stray towards the egg that reminds her of the Steward and she shivers despite the heat.

Carianna seems to jump at the sound coming from The Steward's Image Egg. "I swear I'll scream if Vorlin pops out of there." A shiver runs down her spine at the mere thought then she ohs and nods to Redus. "For a moment there I thought you were mocking my words."

G'non nods. "Just as long as the record set doesn't have to do with number of injured Candidates," he murmurs.

Maelyan gawks as the brown attempts to herd /her/ partner towards the bronze. Though, she does relinquish her hold on Ryse, gesturing towards the dragon. Ysabel is rewarded with a grin and a head shake. "Looks like it's going to hatch, Ysa."

The Steward's Image Egg suddenly rocks back and forth violently before it begins to roll. It only rolls a short way however as the sand prevents the motion. Coming to pause beside the remnants of anothers shell it stills for only a brief moment before there is a resounding *crack* and a star-shaped fissure begins to form.

Amilin chuckles and nods to Divya, "That they are. I've never seen a hatchling herd candidates like tat before.."

Temperamental Cynical Bronze turns his head back as the brown approaches with the small array of candidates moving closer. He actually starts to pay attention to those that have come forward. His draconic lips purse a moment like he's lost deep in thought as he looks over them one at a time again. Then he gives a triumphant bugle and rouses himself to move forward.

Temperamental Cynical Bronze is now listening.

Jhenni rubs at her red nose with her free hand and holds tight to Ysabel with the other. Kaneda gets a narrow green-eyed look and then attention is back on the egg again -- that purplish one -- and then all the others still behind it. Then back, watching the browns and bronze. "Oh, look, he's going to impress!" And so he does. "Ryse! Oh Ryse! He got you!"

Ryse falls to his knees and wraps his arms around the dragonet's neck. He calls out, "His name is Rhyionth and he is famished!"

Geridon comments, "The brown is so busy looking after the bronze's interest, I wonder who he's gonna impress to himself?"

Redus feels Cari's shiver and nods. "Ooo..that'd be quite a scare." Then he raises a brow, "Mocking. Absurd." The bronze is moving now? He has to watch...with one eye anyway, the other eye follows when Ryse's name is called.

Ysabel glares at Kaneda, her nerves getting the better of her. "Not funny!" She snaps, then jumps again as the Stewards egg rolls towards her some more. Ryse's cry draws her attention now and she starts cheering. "Ryse! Ryse and...whatever his name is!"

Cierra blinks at the impression, it happened so fast considering the long process to get to this point. She smiles at Ryse. "Congratulations!"

Makai says "Yay! Congradulations Ryse!"

Kalina catches Ryse's Impression by chance - she smiles, hesitantly, across the sands, turning her attention rather rapidly back to the other hatchlings, and eggs; some are closer to her, and therefore easier to keep track of.

Maelyan now moves herself closer to Kirana as her partner is nabbed. "Ryse! Congratulations!" Now, though, she has an empty hand. "Rhyionth and Ryse! Congratulations!" She can't help but look esctatic for her close friend, and she takes to waving her hand about excitedly above her head.

Divya steps forward and says, "Congratulations, young man. Let's get you and Rhyionth to some food, shall we?"

Kirana smiles to Ryse. "Good on ya, Ryse!"

Jel sees Ryse with his new partner. At first this Impression doesn't quite register. And Jel's brow puckers. And then he laughs, shaking his head. Soon he's just smiling. He holds that smile for a while.

Geridon grins as one of his first friends at the Weyr Impresses. "I can't believe it.. it sure took long enough," he laughs, and turns his head to see what the two browns, then the eggs are doing.

While watching a pair of lifemates walk from the sands, Trewinia happened to miss the hatching of the Abandoned Dock at Night Egg and the resultant blue dragonet that came out of it. With a warble, the dragonet heads right towards her. Hearing the dragonet's cry for attention, she turns quickly, to make sure she is not in danger. The dragonet croons lightly, and Trewinia leans in, "Oh, I know you'd never hurt me," as she hugs his neck. "Yeah, we should go get you some food," she says, as they walk in the direction she watched earlier pairs go.

Ryse nods and stands up. "He's really hungry."

Kirana grins to Maelyan. "I got a free side now, yer wanter stick near me an' Geridon?"

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown seems to move with a pleased jaunt, his work done he decides that now is the time for looking out for number one. He goes back to the one candidate that stole his heart the first time he laid eyes on her. He just knows that her sparkling strawberry blonde locks will look great in combination with his own natural good looks.

Suave Weyr-Smart Brown is now listening.

Divya leads the way back to the passage, walking slowly to try and match Rhyionth's pace.

Divya has left.

Ryse has left.

Rhyionth has left.

Carianna turns and smiles over at Ryse. "Way to go." She cheers before turning back to keep a close eye on the remaining hatchlings. "Don't forget their very sharp claws." She reminds herself out loud as feet continue to move beneigth her.

A Study in Scarlet Brown stalks determinedly toward the row of white-robed candidates -- no lazing about for this sharp-eyed dragon, for his quarry is all that matters to him now. Things to do, time's a wasting. But which quarry? These white-robed people span to either side of him. So many. An interesting dilemma. As though sorting his thoughts, the brown sits before a group of candidates, taking a moment to survey the group as a whole. Nobody misses that piercing gaze. There are several long minutes of silence as the brown gazes from left to right, completely methodical. Then a loud bugle, and he makes for the nearest group of candidates, to further inspect them on a more face-to-face level. His wings trail behind him as he goes, creating deep furrows in the sand. It makes no nevermind to him.

The Steward's Image Egg begins to crack more and in fact the noise doesn't end at this point. A claw protrudes for a moment and then retracts before the egg really begins to shake and shimmy. Almost. There. Almost. There...THERE!

A beautiful young green dragon emerges from the remnants of the Steward's Image Egg.

Glamorous Impassioned Green

This little dragonet is the very picture of beauty. Every line of her body perfectly proportioned to the next. If a Harper were to sing of a physically perfect green dragonet, this would be that song come to life. She moves in an almost unreal fashion, her shimmering green hide gleaming. Her neck and tail are long and graceful and she seems very much in control of herself, or at least as much as a dragonet can ever be. Her smooth hide is highlighted by a soft golden hue running down the ridges of her back and the tips of her wingsails pale to a frosty white at the very edges. As she looks at the world around her, she seems to have a tendency to tilt her wedge-shaped head upward, almost as if looking down her nose at everyone and everything that doesn't rise to her lofty standards.

Maelyan extends her hand towards Kirana, grinning. "Of course I want to stick near you guys. I wouldn't want to be out here by myself, you know." She then turns her eyes towards the browns and the other hatchlings. "Why can't they all slow down?" There's a lapse in Maelyan's speech before she talks again, breathless. "I can't believe he Impressed. And a bronze, too! He deserved him."

Cierra chuckles as she looks around and realizes she was the only girl brought before the bronze. She's about to return to Carianna's side when she finds out just why she was part of the group. She is surprised at the impression more than anything else at first. Everyone has hope, but impression has shocked her into silence. She kneels in front of the brown and embraces him. Finally finding her voice, she calls out her lifemate's name. "Zeventh, what a wonderful name! Yes, forever!"

Who stole the Cookie? Egg has left.

Jel needs support, and he looks for it in an unlikely someone. She happens to be close. And it's worth a try. "Hey, Jhenni. This is something."

Makai looks around anxiously. "Where'd that Brown get to?" he asks with a small frown of curiosity. He smiles as he sees Cierra Impress. "Congratulations!!"

Kirana is again not sure where to look, as she keeps a wary eye on browns and blues and greens. But she does nod. "He sure did." Then she smiles as Cierra Impresses. "Good on ya!"

G'non smiles broadly as he approaches Cierra and Zeventh. "Congratulations," he says to the girl. "Let's get the two of you back to where there's some food, shall we?"

Ysabel lets out a short half-scream as the Stewards egg cracks, then sighs in relief. "A green. A lovely green." Who knows what she was expecting. And then Cierra Impresses. "Cierra! Good for you!"

Jhenni is so excited for Ryse and it is an effort to drag her attention away from the newly mated pair in time to see one of the little browns choose his lifemate. "Oh and look -- is that Cierra there? It is, it is Cierra! What an excellent match." Jhen watches them for a moment too, sharing this amazing thing that is Impression. And then there's Jel whom she looks to with green eyes ever so wide. "Isn't it amazing?"

Redus watches Ryse and his new lifemate leave. He remarks quietly, "Worth it for him after such a long pause." Then right next to him he realizes Cierra is discovered. "Yes!" he says her way. "Congratulations."

Makai says "There're so many of them!"

Zeventh has left.

Kalina allows herself a smile, towards Cierra as the girl Impresses, though she's truthfully more engaged in peering at the newest green, feet doing their dance upon the sands beneath her.

Cierra smiles at G'non, still a little shocked. She nods and heads towards the food with her lifemate.

Cierra has left.

G'non has left.

Geridon watches the purple egg split, revealing a green dragon. Jerking Kirana's hand, he points at the newly hatched dragonet, "Look!" As Cierra Impresses, he grins, lookign at Kirana. "She was so sure she would be left standing... I'm so happy for her."

Who stole the Cookie? Egg rocks and shudders.

Kirana smiles. "Me too."

Divya has arrived.

Glamorous Impassioned Green falls slightly as the egg shell gives way to her front claws. Tumbling out of the egg she falls into the sand and scattering of egg shells with a surprised, 'REeeeeeiiieee!' But she is only down for a moment and lifts her head almost immediately and begins to shake it about. To her feet in a moment and she pulls her tail from the remnant of her shell, giving it a little flick even as she tosses her head in the opposite direction. And then she pauses, tail and head held high with her drooping wings just barely raised. Over yonder candidates stand in white robes and she stares at them. 'RrrrooooORrrreeee?' She croons in what sounds vaguely like puzzlement or perhaps curiousity.

"Cierra!" Maelyan's squeal might be short, but it sure does carry, and Maelyan does a little jig in place. "Congratulations!" The green's arrival is not yet noted until Ysabel remarks upon her, drawing Mae's eyes to the hatchling. "Amazing. She /is/ lovely." Then, she cranes her head about abruptly, peering at Ysa. "How're those strips working?"

Jel says, "It is! It's ... very amazing." And the sailor glances down at a would-be friend. "I'm happy for Ryse," he singsongs.

A small green, oddly speckled with blue dapples across flanks and nose, kicks free of her egg, the Brewing Tempest Egg. She rolls to her feet, wet with yolk, and looks around. One green foot is poised to step forward, then her tail intervenes, sending her tumbling. She ends at the feet of a Harper apprentice lad. Impression is made as green looks up at boy, and boy down at green!

Carianna turns to her foster sister and beams happily. "Oh Cierra, I can't believe it!" She calls out to the new weyrling and brown dragon. Of course the jumping up and down she does, doesn't help her feet any from the burning sand that now covers them. "Ouch."

Ysabel's eyes are on the green, and a faint smile crosses her lips at the noises the young one makes. "She's lovely and funny. Poor thing must be just as baffled as I feel." She turns to blink at Maelyan. "Oh, well enough I suppose. They were a great idea." she adds with a smile. "But my feet are still hot."

Divya is about to escort G'quan and the green to the back room when another assistant weyrlingmaster beats her to it. So she resumes her position near Amilin and watches the shrinking group of Candidates.

Merwen plucks at her sleeves nervously as the hatching goes on and the heat seems to build. As she sees a green hatch nearby she swallows and steps a little forward to better keep track of it's path.

Jhenni, would-be enemy as well, will settle for friend, today. "And Cierra. And A'zara. And E'dron. And..." Jhenni rattles off names as they come to her, surprised to know so many of the other Candidates. She watches the dragonets play their particular brand of hide-and-seek, "I'd like to see more blue. But", and she watches Izzy for a moment, "But the little greens are incredible too."

A Study in Scarlet Brown has almost a severe look about him, his manner is so intense. Those wings trail behind him, shifting in the light from bronze-brown, to a more haunted, dark scarlet-brown. Everything about him seems to shift, in fact... everything except his mood and his focus, that is. As that piercing gaze falls on a group of male candidates, he eyes them suspiciously before nosing curiously at their robes. Huff! Nothing of interest there. You are free to go. The dragonet stalks off, kicking up sand with clumsy hatchling steps as he continues down the line.

Kirana adroitly steps out of the way of a charging dragonet, hardly even able to tell it's color. "Whew."

Who stole the Cookie? Eggjumps up and down, as though someone or some dragon important is trying to get out.

Geridon stiffens as the brown dragon moves down the line, inspecting some of the guys. "Look.. boy he's picky."

A confident young man, a journeyman Miner and among the oldest of the Candidates, gives a small smile as the eggs start to hatch. One of those dragons will be his, he knows it. But then, as one by one, the younger lads and lasses to either side of him are Impressed, he begins to grow worried. There are soon so few eggs left! Then, the Black Widow Spinner Egg breaks open, disgorging a brown so dark he looks black in the glow lighting. That brown heads as a beeline for the Miner, and Impression is made.

Matheny reaches over to point S'rist at an egg just as it hatches and the young dragon emerges. She smiles and then gives Jenryth a pat of approval.

Samron seems less nervous as the hatching proceeds. He watches the brown closely and hopefully until the green emerges and then she has all of his attention.

Maelyan snaps her fingers on her free hand, chuckling over at her friend before turning her eyes to the chaos beforehand. "Everyone's running about. It's a wonder people aren't getting stepped on right now." There's a pause. "I just made them to protect our toes - vulnerable toes. You don't want to have scorched feet tomorrow." A finger is flicked outwards and pointed towards the Who Stole the Cookie? Egg. "It appears that someone wants to be out /now/."

Kirana nods. "Of course he is. Yer wouldn't want them dragonets ter be wrong, wouldja?"

Amilin nods to Divya as she returns, "They seem to be choosing quicker, after that brown and bronze pair made up their minds."

Geridon grins, that gets a chuckle from him. "I don't think they *can* be wrong," he says, watching the Miner Impress a brown.

Kaneda has to laugh at that last remark from Geridon, hopping on his robe-hem from side to side.

Makai watches the vocal little green to see who she'll choose.

Ysabel spares a short glance for the picky brown and then returns her gaze to the green. She's closer after all, and prettier. "No, I wouldn't want scorched feet." she replies, darting a quick smile at Maelyan. "I really do appreciate it." She on impulse she reaches out to try and catch Mae's hand in her free one.

Redus shifts his feet now and and watches as more activity takes place: a green, two greens -- one Impressed already -- and that brown passes. He readies to step out of the way. "I don't think he's at all a slouch."

Divya says softly, under the noise of the crowd, "I'm amazed A'zara found a lifemate. Given his flamboyant personality and his liking for singing off-key, I didn't think he'd find such a perfect match in that green."

Kalina smoothes down her robe with one, sweaty hand, using the other to push some stray strands of hair away from her face, expression ultimately somewhat pained - she casts a nervous glance towards the brown, the green, and the eggs still rocking.

Glamorous Impassioned Green settles her tail behind her and lowers her neck at once in a rather smooth motion. Looking away from the candidates to her own feet she lifts first one and then the other. One and then the other again. Then comes the walking in slow tentative steps. She rocks forward and then back in a swaying motion as she goes. For a moment wobbling on her feet those wings flair up and to their full span for the first time. Again she stops to pose as this manuever gains her back the balance she was in danger of loosing. And once more she seems to pose for the audience, head lifting and looking across the small space between her and the nearest candidate.

Jhenni admits it, "They're all incredible." And then she's too engrossed in watching impression after impression to do more than mumble through her amazement. "I still can't believe I'm here. That we're here. That we're impressing -- I'm afraid I might wake up." She gives Izzy's hand another squeeze. "Its like a dream."

A young lad from Pars Hold gives out a cry of joy as he watches a newly hatched green rush straight for him. The two spend several moments face to face, completely ignoring both the assistant weyrlingmaster tapping him on the shoulder to move off the sands, as well as the large curved piece of the Dark Footprint Trail Egg that got stuck onto the young green's back that she hasn't bothered to shake off yet.

Divya discreetly wipes sweat from her face and neck, and rolls up her sleeves as far as they will go. Whew, hot enough to fry an egg out here!

Geridon lifts his free hand to hide a laugh at the green. He fixes his gaze on the posing dragonet. "There's trouble with wings," he grins.

Carianna watches the impressions with amazement. "We wait so long for this moment and then it happens so quickly to really enjoy the moment." The brown is looked over again and she agrees quickly with the former stablehand. "No one said he was did they?"

Ah ha! Maelyan has been snagged, and is drawn around to Ysabel's free side. "Oh. You're welcome. Just a little idea to save us some burns, that's all." Maelyan turns about to look at Geridon, and then points up towards the galleries. "I hear someone calling you, Geri."

Kirana looks where he's pointing. "Oh, I don't know. She looks more uunsure than touble, if yer ask me."

"Yeah, a dream," is Jel's echo of Jhenni. Wow, such enthusiasm from the boy! He tries. And he makes slits of his eyes. He searches for what? "Say ... I wonder where?"

A blue dragon with a streak of near silver on his right shoulder, falls free of the shards of the Last Carob Candy Egg. As he pauses to open his wet wings, it can be seen that the silver continues onto his right wing, terminating only when it reaches the membrane edge. The wings snap closed, flinging egg yolk everywhere; and red-whirling eyes peer at his audience. Mind made up within moments, he moves towards the mind he felt, ending at the knees of a gangly girl. Impression!

Redus chuckles and nods as he continues to scan then sands. "I know. Just thought I'd say..." He smiles his congratulations to the newest blue's new lifemate.

Ysabel squeezes Jhenni and Maelyan's hands tightly, watching the green and occasionally one of the other Impressions occuring around her. "I think you're right, Jhen. I'll wake up and be in my bed and have a class in the morning. And this is all a dream brought on by too many sweets before bed."

Amilin is closer, and heads over to help the newly Impressed blue and young Geena off the sands.

Geridon raises his eyebrows, turning to look first at Maelyan, then at the stands. "Hm?" he asks, distracted momentarily from the occurrences on the sands. Shaking his head, he turns back just in timet o see the beautiful blue Impress. "Lookit that streak of silver on him."

Glamorous Impassioned Green lowers her wings slowly as her head remains raised and canted to the side. They finally fold back, but still drag lightly in the sand, and she finishes moving forward. The last two meters between her and the candidates are crossed and she right away sticks her muzzle into the face of one young lad. Staring at him for a moment she snorts and draws back, giving a, 'RREEEeeee!' And turning away with a flick of her tail. Dismissal is obvious and immediate as she continues down the line. But wait, what was that? A glimmer of darkness amongst the ranks of the white. Quicker now she moves forward her gaze still that swaying and rocking as if moving to music, tail flicking behind her.

Carianna watches the carbo candy egg crack and a smile plays on her lips as a blue is seen and impresses. "I never figured a blue would be in there." She murmurs to herself then turns back to the other hatchlings still looking for their lifemates.

Samron sees the lad next to him impress and offers his congratulations before he steps away to give the pair more room. He goes back to watching the green closely, curious to see who she will select.

A Study in Scarlet Brown stalks adroitly down the line of candidates, inspecting each before moving on to the next. But wait. This one is interesting. The brown dragonet leans close, eyeing the dirty-blond candidate in almost an intimidating manner -- considering it's a dragon and all. A small huff escapes him. Too scruffy, he could be thinking. That will never do. All must be in order. He draws himself up, dark wings draping ominously about him. But... yes. Nevertheless, he is the one. It must be so, for he is perfect.

A Study in Scarlet Brown is now listening.

Jhenni eyes the little silvery blue and laughs as he impresses. "Oh /good/. And look at that, that poor little brown that is still searching. That is the same one isn't it? From near the beginning. Oh but its so hard to keep track." She looks to Ysabel, "If its a dream, then I'll try and dream you impress."

Kirana keeps wary eyes on the young dragonets, ready and willing to get out of their way if necessary.

R'dus was about to say something to Carianan when he feels eyes on him, really close. He looks up at them and suddenly releases Carianna's hand. "Liorth?" he nods. "Yes. Food first."

Ysabel flinches visibly as the green so obviously dismisses a lad. Then her eyes dart towards the little brown and his new lifemate. "Oh, Redus! Redus and Liorth!" She beams at her two friends. "And I'll dream you two Impress, so we can stick together."

Maelyan bobs her head in agreement with Jhenni. "Same here, Ysa, Jhen. I hope you guys Impress. Me, I'm counting on staying on these hot sands." Ysabel's hand squeezing is returned in kind wiht one of her own, and she looks back towards the green. "Hmmm. Sounded like Aladrea, Geri." Completely off subject, but -- R'dus is given a loud cheer. "Redus! Liorth! Congratulations!"

Divya strolls over to where Liorth and R'dus are standing, lost in the wonder of Impression. "Congratulations, R'dus, on finding your lifemate. If you'll follow me, I'll take you both to where he can get his first meal."

Glamorous Impassioned Green is now listening.

Kirana smiles again as yet another Impression occurs. "Redus? Great!"

Jel missed R'dus' Impression, but not his congratulations. Bemusement crumples his face.

Kalina shifts her feet, swallowing hard. Her hair seems to be wilting; in honesty, /she/ seems to be wilting, looking more and more nervous as the eggs decrease in number. She shakes her head, attempting a smile towards Redus - his Impression caught through the corner of her eye.

Who stole the Cookie? Egg shakes hard. So hard that it starts to roll around, as whoever is inside seems determined to come out.

R'dus manages a smile, one different han the one he's given the beautiful brown that has found him, to Divya and nods. "Thank you ma'am." And he follows, checking to see that Liorth is coming too.

R'dus has left.

Divya has left.

Geridon calls a congrats to R'dus and his new lifemate, before turning to scan the sands again. "Still a lot left.."

Carianna's mouth drops open as he hand is released and then R'dus speaks the brown's name. "You?" She asks as if dreaming now herself. "Oh Red!" She babbles and laughs while watching the pair head off.

Kirana frowns at Geridon. "Lots? Well, there's some."

Liorth has left.

G'non has arrived.

Maelyan falls silent -- she does indeed settle down in her antics, but that's for a reason. Green meets her eyes and Maelyan kneels to throw her arms about the hatchling's neck. "Irelith! Fun we shall have, and you /are/ beautiful." A happy sigh is given and she bustles to her feet again. "Food. You need food. You can have fun with food." Sure, she might be babbling, but she's happy.

Touching each other on the sands, Get a Clue Egg begins to rock violently and Mystery Machine Egg follows suit. Knocking together they help to break each other's shells, and after a particularly violent crash a hatchling falls out of each. A mottled green peers around and stretches out her wings a bit as the newly hatched bronze beside her gets to his feet. The green starts to move forward but those first steps are the hardest and she falls to the sands with a cry of fright. But the little bronze is already a gentleman and comes to the rescue, nudging her to her feet. Together both hatchlings make towards a small group of white robed boys huddled together. The bronze hesitates as if he's unsure of himself and this time it's the green's turn to come to the rescue. She nudges her clutchsib right to one of the boys as she goes to another. The two boys, brothers from Telgar, simulateously kneel and embrace their new lifemates.

Jhenni catches that, too, and applauds R'dus and Liorth. And then Maelyan and the little green, too. So close, so close. She stands on the far side of Ysabel and peers around her friend to eye the perfect little dragonet. "She didn't - oh she did, she did, she did!" Back, to Jel, "Do you see that? Maelyan's gone and impressed green. Irelith."

Kirana grins over at Geridon. "So, I guess it's just you an' me, now, boyo."

Ysabel drops Maelyan's hand like a hot coal. "Mae! Oh, Mae, congratulations! She's gorgeous! Irelith and Mae!" She squeezes Jhenni's hand again, her eyes brimming with delight for her friend.

Glamorous Impassioned Green had come to stop before the one with the long ebony hair and now...now she is Irelith. Once more her wings raise and spread and she croons long and sweet to Maelyan as she leans forward, muzzle barely to touch against the now-weyrlings face.

Merwen shifts her feet and then claps happily for both R'dus and Maelyan as the find their own lifemates. She looks at the cookie looking egg, curious to see what it will hold.

G'non emerges from the caverns...and goes right on out across the sands towards Maelyan. "Congratulations, Maelyan," he says. "Shall we go see about getting your Irelith her first meal?"

Jel risks a glance at the galleries. And his eyes hold on a flash of pearlescent gray. His mom. Radiant in her dress. And then Maelyan Impresses. "I saw," he fibs to Jhenni. "That's great," is added wanly.

The mystery of the Who Stole the Cookie Egg has resolved itself into a brooding blue dragon.

Brooding Persistent Blue

Stocky, for a blue dragon, this hatchling is a dark blue, almost a Navy-the shade of gathering storms at dusk. Darker patches swirl up his hide, making him look almost like he's wearing a harness; these culminate in a dark patch just above the eyes that extends down the side of his jaw, making him look for, all the world, like he has a perpetual scowl. Though newly hatched, he moves with purpose, as if determined to overcome youthful clumsiness with sheer willpower and persistence. When still, this striking fellow tends to let his wings fold around him like a protective mantle.

The Truth Egg has been still up 'till now, the dragon within not feeling the urge to stir. Up 'till now being the key words. But now, now it moves, abruptly too, one moment lying still, the next wobbling from the insistant movements within, sand around it shifting with the actions.

Geridon grins, watching Maelyan Impress as he gives Kirana's hand a light squeeze.

Makai says "Look a blue!"

Carianna begins cheering for Maelyan now as word finally reaches her that there has been another impression. "She's beautiful Mae." She calls out as she steps carefully towards another group of candidates.

Kalina takes several more deep breaths, smiling hesitant congratulations to Impressions that occur close enough for her to catch- she'll have to catch up with a good number of them after the hatching is over. The newest blue is, however, caught; she tilts her head to the side, watching it, feet still shifting about.

At one edge of the group of eggs, Gothic Line Art Egg starts to tumble forward towards the candidates as if the hatchling is starting the searching process just a bit early. But not that early, because as the egg begins to shake small cracks start to appear in it's surface. Those cracks grow and quite suddenly a blue sits amidst a jumble of shattered egg shells. And sits; he doesn't seem very inclined to move from where he is. After a few moments he finally stands up a bit wobbly and walks forward-right onto a piece of his shell. At the sound of it cracking under his talon the little guy jumps a bit and tangles his wings with his feet and falls to the ground. He calls pleadingly to anybody who will help him, and it seems he called to one person in particular. A nearby young girl from the bakercraft rushes forward and helps untangle the blue from it's wings and sets him to his feet before covering her new lifemate with kisses.

Maelyan places her hand upon Irelith's muzzle. "Oh, life is already grand, Irelith. Now, your first meal?" Winks and happy smiles are sent to her friends as she follows G'non off of the sands. "Yes, sir."

G'non leads Maelyan and Irelith off the sands.

Maelyan has left.

Irelith walks after Maelyan much the same way she did before. With a sway and spring in her green step.

Irelith has left.

Hidden in the Dark Egg breaks apart slowly and meticulously; the hatchling inside taking its time to do it right. A shard falls here and there and a green head peaks out. She blinks at the white robed things and takes a particularly long moment to gaze up at the big bronze and gold watching her. Finally she breaks off an even bigger piece of her shell and steps out delicately. She makes her way to the candidates and walks around the inside of their circle, inspecting each one carefully. She comes to a rather mangy looking boy whose hair keeps falling out of it's tail and her head cocks to one side as she contemplates this possible acquisition. Someone to improve with her help? Perhaps this is the reason she finally stops, taking this young boy as hers.

Geridon grins as the cookie egg hatches, "Wow, he's so dark. I didn't know they could be that dark.." Distracted, he studies the Truth egg. "Look, we're finnally gonna see what's in that buried egg."

Amilin makes her way over to the newly Impressed Baker girl and leads them off the sands, only to return just in time to send another young pair after them.

Kalina truth

Jhenni claps her hands again, this time to watch the dark little blue make his way into the world. Stay calm. Be brave. Wait for the dragonet. "Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm -- I can't , I'm too excited." Jhenni's mantra breaks down just asit starts and she grins at Geridon. "Isn't he though? Even darker'n Jel here!"

Brooding Persistent Blue makes an undignified tumble out of the egg. He endeavours to get to his feet, and despite a few near tumbles, he manages it through sheer strength of will. He then peers around pretending that nothing undignified has happened. He then sees the large number of egg shards around, he kicks at them angry at not being the first. Nearly tumbling backwards again.

Ysabel's eyes dart here and there, watching a blue, a green, and Impression, a rocking egg. Nothing catches her attention for long as she tries to see it all.

Samron smiles for the impressions and then looks towards the arriving blue. "He's a handsome one." he comments to nobody in particular.

The Truth Egg continues to rock steadily, the sand that hides it from view taking little time to be shaken away, revealing the egg in it's entirety. An egg which, now freed from the sand, doesn't halt in it's persistant shaking, the occupant clearly unwilling to be bound within the shell any longer.

Kirana just stares at the blue and smiles. "He's tryin' so hard ter be dignified!" She grins. "Ain't easy ter do when yer newborn.

Carianna turns her attention to the dark hatchling in question then nods as she listens to the others. "Beautify none the less, don't you think?" She queries lightly as a side step is taken to let another impressed pair get by. "

Geridon laughs as he agrees with Kirana. "Very true."

Makai says "They are all beautiful, it's all happening so fast!"

Jel sneaks a second peek at his mom. The slim figure, small for distance from Jel, notes her son's regard. And for all her glorious garb, she does a very Tillekian thing, a place famous for capable women: she offers her son a thumb's up of approval. Jel smiles, being keen of eye, and tells Jhenni, "It's all happening so fast."

Wise Herbalist Egg shakes, then stops. Rolls a bit, then stops. Finally cracks start to appear but after a moment they stop growing too. Finally, with what must be supreme effort from the hatchling inside, the egg bursts open and a brown body tumbles out. He nervously gets to his feet, glancing in what seems to be several directions at once before choosing one. Unfortunately, he's chosen to go towards the sire and dam instead of those scary things staring at him. He's undeterred by Jenryth's warble and keeps heading towards her-until he's close enough to get behind her and hide. Anybody who can see him at this point will notice that he has plopped to the ground behind his mother. But unfortunately he can't stay there and it's Dzurath who nudges the brown to his feet and towards the candidates. With a disgruntled buggle the newborn heads to a group of candidates and chooses a girl from the Weavercraft, who hugs her new lifemate. "Yes, I promise to protect you, always."

The Truth Egg topples over at a particularly strong shove from within, hairline cracks spiderwebbing and widening across it's surface, creating a roadmap of small splits in the shell. From within a faint scratching sound can be heard, like talons inside the shell are scraping at it from inside, causing the shell to begin to flake away.

At last the time has come for the Truth egg to reveal the answer to yet another mystery. A damp young queen is where that burnished egg once was.

Erudite Aristocrat Gold

Henna strokes embrace this gold's serpentine neck in a wealth of bronzed torques, etching mysteriously deep grooves between the smoothed, sandy dunes of her supple ridges. Rounded pyramids of sun-darkened amber are her headknobs, creating a gateway between the burnished angles of her jasmine muzzle and the tawny hide beyond. With spars and wingbones in yellowed ivory, her wings seem as a pair of elegant fans, wingsails crafted in the hue of stretched papyrus and decorated in a spartan filigree of coppery glyphs. Petite though she may be, of trim musculature and slender bones, natural poise will lend her an easy edge. Within waits a passionate spirit, coiled and ready to emerge, betrayed not by the passive sway of her winsome tail or the languid grace of her every movement.

Kalina shuffles closer to a small group of candidates, finally allowing her hand to be grasped, so that she stands within them, in something like companionable silence. A deep breath is taken, her feet are shifted, and her free hand is used to wipe down her face again, hair clinging and sticking to her heated skin. Her eyes widen, slightly, as the queen is revealed.

Makai chuckles at the little scaredy brown, "Awe, he's so cute."

Ysabel gasps as the truth egg shatters and reveals a young queen. "Oh, oh, oh! Jhenni, /look/!" SHe stares, eyes wide with awe and wonder. "She's incredible!"

Kirana stands, rooted to her spot as her eyes take in the gleaming gold. "Wow" she breathes. Then she nudges Geridon. "See her, Geridon?"

Geridon nods at Kirana, and is probably theonly person to frown as the young queen dragonet puts in an appearance. "Shards.. I coulda sworn it was a blue.." he comments softly, watching the lovely creature.

Jel, ever alert for rare finds, holds his breath at first sight of the Reaches new queen. He supports Ysa with: "Incredible!"

Carianna turns at the sounds of some girls exclaiming then notices what all the fuss is over. She chuckles softly and watches as a bunch of female candidates seem to move forward to get a better look at it. "Be careful." she warns them as reminds of VSC are given out.

Erudite Aristocrat Gold opens gooey wings a bit awkwardly, shaking them lightly once she's got her bearings, sending goo and bits of shell into the air, though not very far. But after that she doesn't hesitate a moment before starting her journey off, plowing ahead on rapidly steadying legs, wings held partially open for balance. Here she comes!

All dragonets are hungry but the green that topples from the breaking Majesty of the Night Sky Egg must be extremly so. She doesn't bother to right herself before taking a taste of the sand to see how delicious it is: not very. She finally does stand up and goes for the egg goo on her wing: better, but not quite right. Next is a piece of her shell and with this failure she gets a bit fed up, letting out a mournful and hungry cry. Spotting those white robed meals farther off she finally heads full speed towards them, her hungry cries continuing. She stops at a boy with a rather long robe and starts to munch at the bottom, but when it doesn't meet her standards she moves on. A girl makes the mistake of kneeling when the green comes close, but luckily for her (or unluckily) the hatchling's only reaction is to start munching on the girl's hair. The famished green disintangles her mouth from the girl's hair and seems about to move on when she again cries out in her desperate need for food. Turning back she nudges the kneeling soggy-haired girl, who hugs her lifemate. "I promise, I'll find you better food, and lots of it!"

Jhenni echoes Makai, attention on the shy little creature that choose a Weaver. "I wish I had a mother like Jenryth to hide behind right now", she mutters to those closest. She doesn't even try and find her family in the galleries, time for that later. And then, to the gold, "Oh my. So that's the truth of it? I didn't think there would be gold out here today -- incredible." And it is. She is. "Now where'd that blue go?"

Brooding Persistent Blue looks round to see his Gold sister. He then holds his head higher, and reaches out a wing, as if to indicate to her the candidates they have left. In the process he nearly tumbles again. He sqwarks crossly. Then suddenly turns round quickly, what if his special one is gone? His cries become anxious.

Amidst all the chaos of the Hatching, it's easy to miss things. Near the back of the clutch, Wisps of Silk Egg has been rocking quietly for some time. Now it cracks, without any fanfare, and a pale blue head peeks out. Without making much noise or fuss about it, the little blue flops out onto the sand, emits a single creel, and then wobbles his way over to one of the smallest, mousiest girls among the Candidates. Impression!

Geridon looks away from the golden dragonet, seeking the blue as well. "I dunno?" The cries of the blue catch his attention though, and he grins.

Merwen fidgets anxiously on the sands, sleeves still fretted by clammy fingers. She moves in as the number of candidates starts to decrease. The cries of the brooding blue attract her attention and she looks at him hopefully.

Jhenni saw that, she did, and tugs on Ysabel's hand. "Did you see that? That egg you really liked I think just hatched to blue."

Geridon's mouth drops open as the mousy girl impresses. "That's gonna drive Barzerk wild," he comments, glancing at the rather obnoxious candidate.

Ysabel tears her eyes from the gold in time to see her favorite egg hatch - and Impress to someone else. "Drat. Well, good for her!" She grins and nods at Jhenni, then turns her eyes back to the dragons. Blue, gold. Gold, blue. What to look at.

Kirana finally becomes aware of her feet and hops wildly. "Oh shells." Ow! Coming back to the sands she scuffs her toes in the sand.

Erudite Aristocrat Gold seems satisfied, at first, just to walk around, paying little mind to the white-robed figures. She is, after all, having an adventure, one they are little part of. Or are they? As strutting about and flicking sand occasionally begins to get rather routine, even punctuated by trilling warbles, she slows, looking the candidates over slowly, as if inspecting each and every one down to the last hair. To her blue brother she warbles a crisp agreement. Indeed.

Carianna's head travels in many directions as she tries to keep up with the hatchlings that are moving about. A jump over a goo puddle is done and then she back steps to clear the way for a passing green. "I'm beginning to feel very small out here. " She murmurs as darting steps are taken to get herself behind a taller lad.

Storms seem to be brewing over Midnight Fog Egg as lightning cracks start to appear on it's surface. With a thunderous crack the egg bursts open, revealing a small blue. His hide a riot of blue shades, the hatchling seems as stormy as his hide and his entrance and he glares around at everything around him. This doesn't stop him from moving forward after he gives a kick at the shell that has been keeping him trapped. He passes Childs Drawing Egg just as it cracks revealing a petite green, and he rumbles grumpily at her for distracting him. He continues on, though the green follows along like a puppy who has found it's newest friend. The blue looks behind him and rumbles at the green, who only stops until he turns back to walk towards the candidates. Following behind again, she continues with the grumpy hatchling to a group of girls. Once there the blue again turns around to rumble at the green, who responds with a cheerful bugle. Quite a pair, they approach two girls next to each other and impress simultaneously to two High Reaches Weyr natives.

Ysabel giggles at the sight of the grumpy blue and cheerful green. "Aww, how cute. Sibling rivalry." she remarks, amused.

Kalina's expression is almost hopeful, as she gazes on towards the gold. She's rather rapidly distracted by the green and blue Impressing nearby, disappointment colouring her face briefly, before she turns her gaze away again.

With a burst of energy from the hatchling within, Magnifying Glass Egg breaks apart in a series of shaking contractions before finally revealing the vibrant green. With the same energy she used to get out of her confinement she looks around in amazement at those around her. She gets to her feet too quickly and stumbles to the sand, but immediately tries again and succeeds at staying up. With that step finished, she turns and examines her shell, nudging the pieces, before going to a nearby unhatched egg and nudging it gently. Now she seems to have decided to take a look at each and every egg, before a gentle warble from her sire tells her it's time to look at something else. She turns to the candidates and her curiosity gets the better of her and off she goes at top speed to a mixed group of candidates huddled together. Once there she bounds around them several times before she gets dizzy and sits down. Looking up at the boy she stopped in front of, she warbles to him for help. His face lights up and he kneels down to help her to her feet, then off the sands.

Jel finally lets his eyes linger on a dragonet. And it's not the gold. It's a green, remarkably small. The boy is sometimes drawn to extremes. When he hears Carianna's statement, he says, "I know how you feel," forgetting himself for the moment: such is the magnificence of this experience.

Kirana surruptitiously rubs one foot on the calf of the other and still attempts to watch all the action.

G'non escorts the lad and his green off the sands with murmured words of congratulations, before returning to watch the remaining dragons and Candidates once again.

Geridon watches the flurry of activity on the sands, turning his head one wya then another trying in vain to see everything at once. "It's really going fast now.."

The Mystery Meat Egg seems to have been rocking for a rather long time. At least for those who've kept an eye on it. It seems to bounce a bit this way, then back, shiver a few times before finally a few cracks mar it's surface. But that's just the beginning, for another eternity passes before this tiny bright blue actually manages to bust through his shell. But for as long as it took him to get here-he seems to Impress in just a moment. Heading strait for, and claiming, an equally small, dark haired girl from Keroon, as his own.

Brooding Persistent Blue rushes, then remembers his dignity, and slows to a walk, as he inspects the candidates. He seems to almost fold his wings behind his back as he inspects the remaining ones. He walks past them once, then turns and inspects each candidate closely, before staring at one smiling young man, turning his head on one side. Moving his head close to the face, can this really be the one? Is he good enough? Does he have dignity?

Matheny gives Jenryth yet another pat and smiles as the dragonets all seem to be finding mates without too much difficulty. She comments to S'rist, "That first bronze had me a little worried, but it seems to be going well."

Brooding Persistent Blue is now listening.

Jhenni tries to settle. Jhenni tries to remain standing; bare feet slip and sink into the hot Sands. "Aye Izzy. They're each so different. And yet... " /Dragon/. "She eyes Jel again and tries to see what he is watching. "How are you holding up?"

S'rist smiles over towards his weyrmate and nods, "Took him a while to get moving alright, but since then they've been doing rather well. Dzurath is happy with them."

Under The Limitless Moons Egg hasn't seemed to have been moving, not even a little. But wait, is that a tail sticking out of it? A few candidates motion towards it and then seem to forget about it in the moment that an Impression happens nearby. When they look back, the egg seems to still be perfectly still, though a bit farther to the right than it was, and no tail. Must have been seeing things. With a shrug they look away to the hatchlings already making their way around on the sands nearby. No one seems quite sure when that egg actually vanished from it's space and left that deep forest green in it's place. Well, except for the quiet boy from Lewis Hold whom she Impresses to. He saw all her hard work to get free, not that he'll ever tell anyone her secret.

R'don blinks suddenly, falling to his knees and wrapping his arms around the blue dragon's neck. "Oh Gederoth, I'm glad to be with you too," he explaims, his eyes filling with tears.

Jhenni twigs though, at the impression of Gederoth and Geridon -- R'don. "Oh, oh... /oh/." There are no words. There is only delight.

Gederoth croons softly.

Kirana starts as her sweetheart Impresses. Then her face is wreathed in a smile. "Oh, Geridon!"

G'non smiles as he approaches R'don and his lifemate. "Congratulations, you two." He gives them another few seconds, before gently steering them in the direction of the passageway.

Kalina's smile widens - if only briefly - to greet R'don with some measure of congratulations; she's still, however, a moving blob of white robe, squeezing the hand in hers as she hops from one foot to another, nervously cogitating over the remaining eggs.

Jel squints, as if a harsh wind slapped his face. A reality check. "Congratulations," he calls, perhaps being a good sport, for he watches a critic Impress. "Congratulations, Geridon."

Makai says "A blue! Geri impressed a blue!"

Erudite Aristocrat Gold appears to reach the conclusion that these white clad people must hold some purpose. So she begins to march towards them posture slightly aloof, pausing here and there to give one of the girls an inspecting look. But time does no favors to the gnawing hunger, and she creels unhappily, a swift movement stirring up hot sand. But...whats this? Her sharp gaze seems to have caught something, something she likes! Hurried steps bring her directly in front of a straight haired, cobalt eyed young woman, muzzle poking itself firmly to her mid-section. Look alive now!

Erudite Aristocrat Gold is now listening.

R'don gets to his feet, his hand resting on the blue's headknob as if he'll never remove it. Rather dazedly, he looks around and nods to G'non bemusedly.

To most of the candidates, and to the Galleries, the Wanderer's Will-o-wisp Egg doesn't seem to have even cracked yet. The semi-circle of candidates around the egg, though, know otherwise, as they heard one snap, and now a crackling sound fills their ears. It sounds much like a mid-winter hearth fire, and each pop coincides with a small division in the egg's surface. The candidates step back slightly when a green wing pokes through one side. Small bits of shell constantly fall around the dragonet now, as she shakes a few from her head. She seems very calm in her duties, poking bits of tiny shell pieces from her body. When she realizes that they aren't all going to come off, she starts to warble sadly to the group of candidates. When none of them step forward, she turns from them, to inspect other white spots on the sands. Over there, she thinks. That's where her lifemate must be. Still warbling, she makes her way over to a girl from Keroon, and sits at her feet. Amidst tears, the girl leans over to wipe the small bits of eggshell from the dragonet's neck, comforting her. "I know. But you have to make up your mind," she pauses, listening to a low croon from the dragonet, "Yes, I think that will be better. We'll get you some food, and I can clean you off while you eat." She follows an assistant off, with her new lifemate close behind.

Samron offers his congratulations to the former Geridon and then straightens his robe out to face the remaining egg.

R'don has left.

G'non has left.

Nabolese Wherry Egg shivers rhythmically in the sands in time to a methodical taping that seems to come from inside. The tapping grows louder as the shivering increases, then the cracks start to form all over it's surface.

Divya has arrived.

Ysabel stares, shocked, at the gold that has planted herself in front of her. "Xemyth?" she gasps. "Xemyth! Of course I'll never leave you!"

Carianna turns and smiles as R'don impresses, even if the tall lad she stands with looks disappointed. "Oh chin up." She tries to comfort. "That egg there may hold your lifemate." Then more cheers are heard. "Way to go Ysabel!"

Gederoth has left.

Kirana smiles again as she sees Ysabel Impress. "OH, good fer ya, Ys! I knew yer'd do it!"

Jhenni's hand falls away and she's left awe-struck and dumbfounded again. "Oh oh /oh/." But this time she does find the words. "Oh my belle Izzy -- oh what's her name? Oh Ysabel. Oh my." Okay, so they aren't very erudite words, but they are ofered with an overwhelming sense of love. "Ysabel and Xemyth. Oh oh /oh/."

Kalina tugs her hand out of the one that holds it, using both hands to try and tidy her hair, and stop it from clinging to her neck. Her feet shuffle, and she smiles- Ysabel's Impression is duly noted, her head inclined forward, although she worries her lip with her teeth.

No sooner has Divya returned to the Sands then Ysabel announces her lifemate's name. She hurries over to the new pair and says, "Congratulations, Ysabel, to you and Xemyth both. Shall we go get Xemyth her first meal?"

Merwen atcually forgets her anxiety for a moment as she cheers for both Geridon and Ysabel. She smiles and then glances around to see if anyone else she knows is left. Seeing a familiar face she steps closer to close the ranks.

Kirana stretches out her hand in an instinctive gesture, and draws in on herself a little as she realizes nobody is left to hold it. She holds her head up, though, chin high. Ain't over yet, and she sees eggs left unhatched.

One of the older girls from Misty Hold, known as Ilese, seems frightened by all the activity even though she was one of the loudest earlier on in the barracks to decry the sands as a scary place. Turning around and around she eventually finds herself almost against one of the warm cavern walls when the Where Babies Come From Egg finally starts to crack. When a dragonet of a subtle minty green color emerges from the egg in question Ilese finds herself too busy watching the shimmer of the dragonet's hide to be afraid. As the dragonet teeters unsurely forward the girl does as well and each meets the other at the halfway point in a loving embrace of arms and wings.

Jel watches a girl, not a classic beauty for sure, Impress one. "Congratulations, Ysa." It seems he has found his voice. For where he was silent earlier, now he is all good cheer. Since his mom sighting. He laughs with Jhenni. "Perfectly said," he teases her.

Ysabel nods slowly to Divya, a huge grin transforming her face. "Xemyth." she repeats once more. "Of course, we'll get you something to eat." She beams at Jhenni and Kirana before following Divya, one hand reaching down to caress her lifemate.

Jhenni steps back from her Ysabel, the one she knew, and turns to Jel. "Shushup. There's dragonets to impress -- or not -- and I can be happy for m'friends." She tilts her head, "I might even manage to be happy for you."

Divya shudders slightly at the echo of a draconic buugle echoes down the passageway, but soon enough the noise abates and her abused ears recover.

Divya has left.

Nabolese Wherry Egg shivers on a bit more then stills, but there is still that tapping. More cracks spread out till it looks as if there can't be much left holding it together. Then, all at once it seems as if the egg hesitates, a moment, before the small shards shower down on the recent inhabitant.

The darkened Nabolese Wherry egg has finally released onto the sands a humble looking brown dragon.

Ysabel has left.

Humble Hooded Brown

Though of modest size, this brown seems to hunch down a bit - as if trying to be unassuming about his stature. Not the handsomest dragon ever clutched, perhaps the crouching is an innate awareness of his looks, which could be politely described as plain or more accurately termed as dowdy. His shading aids, somewhat, in casting such an impression of politely shy withdrawal; deep mahogany covers him from headknobs to hindquarters, as if wrapping him in a dark robe. Creamy blonde streaks toward just over his worldly gaze from under the dark hood - there, it blends with the pale russet hue that reaches up from his muzzle. Similar streaks of russet echo in the brindle patterning on his wing spars, his strong looking legs, and his tail.

Xemyth has left.

Makai says "Look another brown!"

Spinning once, The Shadow Clue Egg ends its haching act with and explosive split in half, a largish green spreading her wings immediately upon being free. The dark green coloured hatchling stalks around the grounds, looking for the right person. Her eye look past a older lad to a young girl standing behind him, she croons and races towards the girl, forgetting there is a lad in the way, she knocks the lad over and races towards the girl, her eyes the purple of love. The girl says her new lifemate's name in a cheerful voice, scratching the greens eye ridges.

Makai says "And a green!"

Kaneda stares at te Humble Hooded Brown hatchling with wry amusement. "He's kind of .. plain," he remarks to the nearby Candidates, one hand to his chin as he observes the dragonet shatter its egg and begin its stumbling dance across the sands.

Kalina casts the new brown an almost hopeful glance- she's immediately disappointed by the green from The Shadow Clue Egg, face falling just a little more as one less hatchling is left for her to hope for. "I knew I wasn't-" she beguns, just to be nudged by her companion: "There's still hatchlings left!" Kalina nods, hesitantly, watching.

Hound of the Bakercraft Egg begins to rock, still up until now. Suddenly is begins to rattle wildly, as if the dragon inside was frantic to get out as it hears its siblings do likewise. Then, the egg is still again.

Carianna ohs lightly as the brown and green are seen then her voice joins the others that congratulate the girl impressing. "Seems to be alot of greens and browns this clutch Makai." she comments lightly.

G'non has arrived.

Kirana arches a brow. "Yer want them all ter be handsome? Ain't gonna be pretty for long, come Thread," she notes. "Beauty ain't as important as brains," she says meaningfully.

Jel had done his all not to glance at his favorite: that dark, elegant egg, the Nabolese Wherry Egg. But, for all his effort, he saw it hatch. And what it holds floors him. "Not what I expected," he says. And that's that. This youth won't pay court to ugly. "I change my mind about my favorite," he murmurs to Jhenni.

Merwen seems to droop a little from the heat, her hair hangs flat as does her robe. She rubs her hands off against the material again and watches the newest brown with deep curiousity.

Makai nods, "Lots of redish browns too."

Kaneda laughs at Kirana as he does his own hot-sand shuffle, absently agreeing with the lass as he looks again to the Humble Brown hatchling. "I suppose yer right, after all," he drawls, watching himself lest a dragon come running towards the cluster of Candidates in an effort to Impress.

Jhenni is holding out for some more blue, but gives the hatching brown an investigative glance. "Wasn't that the egg you wouldn't let me like, Jel?" And then, as he abandons it, "I'll take it then. Nice egg. Good dragonet. You're not ugly, don't listen to Jel."

Fussy, fussy, fussy. Cracking the egg and sending bits of shell all over the place? No, that simply won't do. Instead, the It's Elementary, My Dear Candidate Egg hatches little by little, a dainty green beak slowly and painstakingly chipping away at it until a neat hole is made. With a ladylike little warble, the occupant steps out onto the sands, looking around at all there is to see. Not even hunger makes her forget her manners-she imperiously makes her way to a freckled lad and butts his chest with her head, informing him that she is ready to eat-right now!

Makai says "I think they are all beautiful in very different ways."

Hound of the Bakercraft Egg picks up shaking again, the red "eyes" on its end almost seeming to wink ominously in the light of the glow baskets. This time the rocking is methodical as the ragon inside tries to get out.

Hound of the Bakercraft Egg rolls, the red eye blotches buried in sand. *CRACK*...and the egg breaks apart spectacuarly.

Where the Hound of the Bakercraft Egg once was there now stands a small and pompous looking blue dragon.

Pompous Methodical Blue

Not a single variation of color mars the light azure blue of his hide, it is perfect from his oddly egg-shaped head to his perfectly proportioned tail. In fact, the only slight discoloration isn't flaw, it is a dark, almost black symmetrical curl on each side above his maw. Portly in stature, he is on the short side, but carries himself with great dignity, his head always perched a little to one side. Each methodical movement he makes seems designed to conserve as much energy as possible. Apparently, athletic pursuits do not appear to be this dragon's strong point. The neatness of his appearance is almost incredible to view, a speck of dust would likely cause him more pain than a threadscore, mon ami.

Humble Hooded Brown sits in that pile of shard, for only a moment. A fellow needs to get his barrings before rushing off and doing something foolish. He shrugs off the egg bits as if he hardly notices them, though as he moves forward he seems to take one bit with him and he begins to search about.

Kirana edges away from that egg. It's been looking at her the whole time. She swears. Really!

Carianna laughs as she watches the next impression. "You tell him." She calls out encouragingly to the green dragonet. A nods is passed to Makai as she moves to join him. "They are, and very entertaining too. It will be fun watching them in the next few months to see how they mature."

Makai says "Oh look at him. He's the classic picture of a blue!"

Jel shakes his head, a sardonic twist to his lips. He laughs, "Well, you're free to like it now." And Jel exhales, sighing, letting his eyes roam. To other eggs. To other dragonets. To other candidates. He looks for beauty. Life is short. Jel prefers things pleasant to things real. "That new blue is better."

Kalina's eyes don't rest for very long upon any of the hatchlings- she appears, instead, to be watching them all, yearningly searching for something special. She winces at the heat, uncomfortably shifting, her head shaking at some muttered comment to her companion.

With a resounding crack, the Treasure Map Egg splits in half from the struggles of the richly colored green inside. One half of the egg rolls off down from the mound towards the candidates. This seems to be a good plan and the green takes off after the half an egg out into the midst of the candidates. This one decides to spend some time showing off her wings before she spots a young miss from Tillek showing off her blonde curls with a flip of her head. That was enough to draw the green's attention and moments later impression is made between the two show offs.

Samron perks up as the pompous blue hatches, "I really like the color of that blue!" he says in an excited voice. He tries to stay alert, not wanting to be caught unexpectedly by any of the sharp claws.

Kirana just makes sure she has room to run, should some dragonet decide to go /through/ her instead of around her. Sweating a bit, she tries to rub her brow with her forearm, but it doesn't help.

Pompous Methodical Blue sits there a moment, seemingly /appauled/ at the mess. If he knew Hatching was going to be so...so...dirty, with all that sand and such sticking to him, he would not have bothered. However, one thing there was not in that egg was food. Good, chewy, bloody food. The blue's eyes whirl with red as he finally decides to step forward, almost grimacing as he is forced to step on yet more unclean sands.

Jhenni prefers things honest. "I don't know. I mean, certainly he's blue and therefore lovely, but there's far more character to the cowled brown there." Jhen focues on the two dragonets that seem to be taking their time. "Not that I'd complain about any lifemate that might want me." Its her runny nose, she knows it is. "But ..." She looks around, all the way around. "Not so many of us left now, is there?"

Kirana overhears Jhenni's last comment. "No," she comments forlornly.

Merwen swallows roughly and sneaks a glance at Samron as he comments. She nods her agreement, "He is a lovely blue, maybe he'll come this way." and then falls silent again, eyes wandering back to her favorite egg that still remains unhatched.

Carianna watches the blue as he steps on the sand then glances around the sands trying to predict who it will go to. "Its a good thing we've no marks out here to bet with." She murmurs to the candidate closet to her.

Jel is definitely a sensitive, as hard as it may be to believe. He has to be sensitive, to offend so easily. So he, perhaps bored, extends a reassuring hand, and squeezes Jhen's shoulder, if she lets him. "At least you're not alone."

Humble Hooded Brown seems to gather up a bit of the sand to join that bit of shell. More of the clues he might need to figure out this new place he's found himself in. Oh, but what are these. He stops and surveys the gathered ring white things from where he is. Now these rate a closer inspection! So off he goes, eagerly checking over each as he heads down the line.

Kirana eyes the galloping brown. "Hey Jhenni, get ready ter move!"

Pompous Methodical Blue starts down the mound towards the remaining Candidates, tail lifted to keep from gathering more sand, and wings as tightly to his back as possible. Most dragons immediately try to dry their wings, but to do so risks shards on the membranes. Finally he reaches a clearer, cleaner spot and stands there, red-whirling eyes taking in all he can. Maybe over there, in that group? He waddles in that direction.

Jhenni is surprised enough by the gesture that she blinks. Twice. But then reaches up to pat pat Jel's hand with her own. "Not yet, no." And the dragonets are watched more carefully with Kirana's warning. "Not yet. But even if I am. I was a high Reaches Candidate. And today is a /good/ day to Stand." She said it before, she says it again.

Samron has arrived.

Kaneda grunts as the Humble Hooded Brown hatchling passes from one to another Candidate. "What is he doing, a line search?" the dark lad complains amiably. "He looks like G'non was earlier!"

Samron has disconnected.

Kalina shifts her feet, an almost hopeful glance made towards the hatchlings, dropped again as she rubs at the sweat on her arms, and her face, shifting uncomfortably.

Samron has connected.

Jel is on alert, having just snagged Kirana's warning. He withdraws his hand from Jhen, remembering who he is ... and who -she- is ... and glances at that humble brown. There's a look of worry on his face. "I pity the person he finds," says the sailor. "What a mess."

Jhenni is used to Jel's erratic shifts in mood and cannot help chuckle. "I think they're lovely."

Kirana arches her brow again. "Says you," she mutters. Visibly (and literally) biting her lip to keep from being rude, she just tosses her head, making the heavy braid swing.

Makai holds his breath as the brown starts checking over each candidate.

Samron has reconnected.

Samron has partially disconnected.

Alria comes down a short flight of steps from the galleries.

Alria has arrived.

Pompous Methodical Blue suddely seems indecisive. No, that boy is too...messy. And so is that girl. So fretful is the blue that one, two, three more people are Impressed until he is one of the last hatchlings left ont eh sands. He approaches his dam's rider...maybe she is a bit neater? No, a boy. A boy that is over there hiding in the shadows. Maybe him? He must take a closer look.

Carianna watches along with the others as dragonet makes his way down the line. Though Jel gets a curious look and she asks, "What makes you say that? He could grow into that hide of his and become the envy of many."

Alria heads up a short flight of steps to the galleries.

Alria has left.

Jel tells Kirana, "Definitely, says me," looking wry. And then Carianna gets a barking laugh for her question. "No one can change so much. You either got it or you don't."

Humble Hooded Brown pauses as he reaches a group that seems to shy back from him.. Ahh, now here. Here is what he's been looking for! He studies this bit of the line closer, But which one is it? No, not that one, or that one there-THAT one. He starts forward again, stopping in front of the graceful, auburn haired one with a joyful croon. He's the one!

Humble Hooded Brown is now listening.

Samron has disconnected.

Samron has connected.

Jhenni has enough to move back, yet again. Out of the way, and out of -- oh /my/ what a pairing. "Well you got it now Jel", she says laughing with amusement, and delight. "And serves you right, too." But there's honest delight there too, and the pleasure of his impression.

Merwen looks over at Jel as his comments reach her and then looks to the brown who seems to have impressed regardless of his looks on the sands. She smiles a bit and then rubs her hands at her sides again.

Kirana grins maliciously. "Serves yer right," she says. But she is grinning anyway. "There ya are."

J'l is frozen with momentary horror. And then those eyes meet his, the prettiest thing about the dragonet. And the sailor sinks to his knees, breathing, "Iosketh, yes." Though the boy is not so far gone as to not pick at the bits of sand and shell that sticks to his friend. Appearances are important!

Samron has reconnected.

G'non can't help it...there's a certain wry cast to his smile as he approaches the newly-Impressed pair. "Congratulations, J'l, to you and...Iosketh, is it? If you'll follow me, I'll show you where you can get him fed and oiled."

Carianna laughs softly as she watches the impression, but she uses all her will to fight back the words that come to mind. Instead she simple bows gracefully to J'l, while her eyes twinkle with laughter.

Pompous Methodical Blue finally stops, looking up at a boy who isn't so tall, who maybe isn't quite as neat or clean as the blue might want. However, there is potential there, potential...as soon as the Hatchling is fed. He'll feel better with food in his stomach...and a bath. Definitely a bath. The now Urynth peers up at Samron, poking him in the hip with a blue muzzle.

Pompous Methodical Blue is now listening.

Samron has partially disconnected.

J'l tears his eyes from brown Iosketh to stare at G'non. "Ah ... yes ... sir." And with one last swipe at his lifemate, must get that dragonet clean, he rises to follow.

Jhenni watches J'l and get led away and turns to Kirana. "M'thinks we're being abandoned, Kira." She shuffles closer, hot-tired-exhausted but all aglow with the excitement of the day. "Poor Iosketh. Or should that be poor Jel?"

Amilin simply arches a brow as she watches, before moving to help another pair.

J'l has left.

Urynth nudges his lifemate towards the exit passageway, where he can smell food and /hear/ others eating.

Iosketh has left.

Matheny covers her mouth with one hand to hide the chuckle as the young brown impresses to his choice regardless of anything else. She leans over and whispers to S'rist before stepping forward and away from her enthusiastic looking lifemate.

Kirana shrugs. "Knew I'd be left." She hrms. "Well, I guess I gotta go get m'runner out o' th; stables an' catch up ter the rest . . . hmm. In Boll, probably, by now.

G'non escorts Samron and Urynth back to the passageway, as well.

A large winged bronze hatches forces it's way through the tough shell of the Ten Little Holders egg, emerging snout and foreclaws first. The small cluster of five candidates around the egg draw back to give the dragonet room, the two boys stopping to let the bronze get a look at them and the three girls slowly moving away towards other eggs. The bronze bugles loudly and moves forth to take a close look at first one and then the other of the boys present. For one moment it seems as if the dragonet will move on in search of other candidates to inspect but at the last second one of the boys, the lad from Keogh Hold, gives a bold cry of dismay and the dragon looks back and into his eyes. The remaining boy turns around to look at the rest of the sands, searching with his eyes. And then there were none.

Urynth has left.

Kalina's face is set into a mask if disappointment, but not surprise, as she realises that all the eggs are gone; she shakes her head, sighing quietly. "I knew it," is her only comment, "But it's okay."

Kaneda watches Kirana with quieter yellow eyes .. for all he talks of not wanting to Impress, not wanting to be a 'rider, there is still a lingering bit of regret that lodges in the back of his mind. But now .. here, on the sands, surrounded by shattered shells, he realizes, he can go -home-.

Samron has left.

Carianna turns as she catches Kirana's words then makes her way closer. "Don't be so quick to head off Kira. The snow is deep and there is still a banquet of food to be had."

G'non has left.

Makai sighs resignedly, watching the pairs of Weyrlings leaving the sands. He stretches a bit, amber eyes contented and smiling. "That was fun," he murmurs gently, waving congratulations to those leaving the sands. He turns to look at the remnants of eggs with a smile.

Kirana hrms. "Well, I might stay fer dinner."

Merwen smiles over at Samron as he follows off his dragon, "I never heard what he said." she smiles though, glad for him and the others and trying not to think about her own state now as all the eggs seem to be shards now.

Jhenni manages a grin at Carianna. "I can't even imagine eating. But I do want to hear how the day went for others. And see m'family if they made it."

Kaneda wanders out into the great space of empty sands, now that all the dragonlets have Impressed, and picks through the shattered shards of shells before finding one little piece that catches his eye.

S'rist looks across the sands, seeing that all the eggs have hatched, and the pairs ushered off the sands, offers his arm to Matheny and starts making his way across the sands to the candidates remaining.

Amilin follows the final pair off the sands.

Amilin has left.

Matheny looks over the shards and then nods to S'rist in agreement and steps forward to take his arm and walk towards the remaining candidates. She raises her voice so that they can here it, "We are sorry that your own lifemates were not on the sands today but have heart, for you are all a brave and admirable group. We hope that you will stay for dinner and think a few days about joining us here at the weyr full time. We will also provide rides home for those of you who wish to leave us."

Kalina inclines her head, a short nod made to indicate that she's listening to what Matheny has said, although her expression is mostly impassive.

Jhenni listens, too, still one big adrenalin rush of emotion.

Kirana appears to be taking it all calmly. Maybe too calmly.

S'rist nods, "It has been an honor to have you all here to stand on the sands for us, we do truly appreciate the time from your lives you've given to Pern and the weyr."

Carianna begins to imitate Matheny's and S'rist's statements and actions silently. One can only guess she's heard this speech before but should he turn her way she stops and smiles sweetly pretending to listen.

Kaneda stands with the others, head tilted, still attempting to make sense of all the goings-on that have whirled by so quickly.

Makai nods as he thinks about what to do next.

Merwen listens and then looks around, not even able to think about what she will do she waits to see what the others will say if anything.

Matheny smiles sympathetically and then says, "You don't have to decide anything right away. Please join us at the feast and relax away from the sands."

Makai nods and starts to head out.

Kalina nods, turning away slowly.

Makai has left.
