In the sevenday or so that K'del has been back, he's been busy: there are loose ends to be picked up, debriefings to be had, and a Weyr to get in hand. It's meant some long hours and late nights, and some early mornings, too. It's early, now, although not unsociably early; K'del's set himself up at the great, round table with klah and pastries, and a stack of paperwork to look through. He looks... tired, despite his 'vacation' and pale beneath his steadily-fading tan.

Edyis knocks on the door, a tray in one hand, a pitcher of Klah still steaming, and a bottle or two of something "You know there is a such thing as working yourself to death." Her voice soft as she waits for permission to enter.

"You know I have staff around to bring me beverages?" counters K'del as he glances up, gesturing to the klah he's already go, not to mention the collection of bottles on the sideboard. "There's a lot to catch up on. I'm fine."

"It's like, the one thing I've got any remote skill at procuring?" Is her cheery response, but the tray gets set aside. Still the cheer masks concern visible in brief flickers. She eyes the paperwork, and everything else. "Maybe I should come back later." A pause, "It isn't really anything important."

"No, no," says K'del, shaking his head. "You're here; it's fine." Beat. He sets down his pen, gesturing the brownrider further in. "Reckon I can guess what it is you're after, but still: I'm all ears."

"Multiple things actually, one wanted to check in on you. I meant to visit again, but with playing catch up with Snowdrift's safety protocols." There's a shrug, and a smile, "I actually just wanted to see if R'hin was being his usual contrary self and throwing you under the cart like everyone else in this place seems to. Though, I admit I was curious too, haven't had a chance to ask Mielline why she even wanted us, or if she wanted us." She stands at attention still. "Didn't want her to think we were ungrateful for it either."

That collection of questions leaves K'del's expression amused; he leans back in his chair, no longer with the gingerness of the healing, and listens. By the end, he simply shakes his head. "Why do you think R'hin is throwing me under the cart?"

"Because it's the sort of thing that amuses him, avoiding giving complete answers." There's almost a smile of affection for the thought. "Truth be known, I wasn't sure we'd fit anywhere or anyone would want to take on a pair with the sort of issues Akluseth and I have."

"Snowdrift is the best possible place for you," answers K'del, firmly and without hesitation. "It's dynamic, it's challenging, it's unconventional. Knew you wouldn't fit in a more traditional wing. And," he reaches for his klah, "you weren't, and aren't, ready for Savannah."

"Wish I knew what means, but I will take your word on it." Of being ready. "So does this mean I lose the marks on the bet that he was just being obstinate and saying it was all your fault?" Her expression a little crestfallen, though likely more at the loss of the marks than the answer.

K'del sips from his mug, taking his time over it. It's only as he sets it down again that he says, "You spent a long time working with Savannah before you Impressed," he says. "But that's different to being a Savannah rider. You need to know what it's like to be a rider, in a real wing, before you can be an effective rider for Savannah. You need to unlearn."

"That isn't logical, how do you unlearn something when you've learned it? What is it that I'm supposed to be unlearning?" Edyis's brows furrowing together as she seems to struggle to understand.

"Well," says K'del, and this time, he half-smiles as he says it, "I imagine that's half of what you have to figure out. The point is... use Snowdrift. Learn from it. Forget what you think Savannah is right; forget what you think you know. Focus on what you think you don't. And..." He pauses, but only for a moment. "You're a Snowdrift rider. Don't think of it as a stepping stone. Maybe you will end up in Savannah eventually, but don't sit around waiting for it. Make Snowdrift home."

"I don't think of Snowdrift as a stepping stone, but It doesn't feel like home either. It's always been the people around me that have either made a place feel like home or not feel like home. A good chunk of Snowdrift hates me, and nothing I do will change that. I don't expect to ever end up in Savannah either, I am not trying to change anything. I just - I just want to understand is all."

"Then maybe that's part of what you need to learn," says K'del, simply, as he reaches again for his klah, using his other hand to tear off a piece of his pastry. "But that's up to you, Edyis. Snowdrift is an opportunity. Use it."

The furrowed brow, the squint as though trying to read some impossibly tiny script, the markers of confusion are all there, one might even imagine smoke rising from imaginary gears in her skull trying desperately to process something incomprehensible. It might be that there's the beginnings of progress or else something simply breaks and spins off wildly, because she's lifting a hand in salute. "I'll try." Snapping the salute off before adding, "Don't push yourself, Sir. Looking pale with a tan is just plain unnatural."

"Mm," says K'del, which may not be the most encouraging of statements. But he gives Edyis a nod, and evidently considers the matter done: his gaze drops back to his work a moment later.
