The quiet dawn of day 6, month 7 of turn 25 was broken by the ear-splitting keen of Fort's dragon population mourning a loss. Not just any loss, but that of their junior queen, Yshtiath, gone Between with her rider, Preita, in the early hours of the morning. It was widely known that the young queen's prognosis wasn't good, after the flight that, among other injuries, left one wing completely useless, but the reality of her death hit the Weyr hard and resulted in a quiet, grey day all round. It wasn't until midday of day 7 that some sense of life began to return to the Weyr, prompted by a Sandstone bronzerider's request to meet with the Weyrleaders. Having been one of a number of men who had spent a considerable amount of time with Preita, rumour has it that he claims he was sure he was misremembering or creating a tale in his grief, but he swore that he had seen Yshtiath making incredibly slow progress across the bowl on the night of the 5th. Four eggs were discovered on the Hatching Sands in a little muddled group, no sand piled around them and not nicely arranged to a mother's satisfaction. But four eggs nonetheless.
