Mielline read through the paperwork a second time, rubbing at her temples with two fingers as she did so.

To be honest, she didn't much envy K'del his job. It was fine in the short term, but she preferred being able to focus on what was best for her wing, without needing to think beyond it. Once upon a time, she'd fully expected to be a Holder's wife, to support him in all he did, manage all those people... and perhaps she would have been good at that, in a different life. In this, to be honest, she was looking forward to the weyrleader's return. Soon, she hoped. That's what he was saying, anyway.

She'd intended to mull over Irianke's favour, to give it time. Get a feel for the bluerider-- see what R'vel thought, too, especially if things had a chance to move on enough for those other plans to come together.

Now, though. She tapped a finger upon the table, trying to think. It was an appealing thought, having Irianke owe her. Irianke, unlike so many of the weyrwomen before her, was a force to be reckoned with. Mielline admired her; liked her, too. She wasn't perfect, and honestly, it would be preferable if she were High Reaches trained and Impressed, but still. A breath of fresh air; that, certainly.

She had less of an opinion on H'vier. A boor-- that, certainly. Not someone who seemed to respect women much-- yes. A decent wingleader, though, as far as she could tell. She knew K'del couldn't stand the man, didn't trust him. Suspected, strongly, that K'del would be horrified at the idea of the combination of H'vier and Jo together. She was less certain of Irianke's opinion, except that... well, if Irianke wished the bluerider to fly with H'vier, it stood to reason she would have approached him, instead, and smoothed the path with Mielline while K'del was gone.

Irianke wanted Jo in Snowdrift. Mielline...

She wasn't sure. It was hard to remember back to when Jo was a weyrling and had shadowed Snowdrift; it was a long time ago.

Well. There was nothing for it.

She set the paperwork aside, nudging it beneath some other reports. She'd just have to bring her plans forward, see how things went. Lay her cards out for R'vel, too.

If it went well, they'd proceed. And if not...

She was Acting Weyrleader, for now. It may not sit easily on her shoulders, but there it was. Whatever decision she made, K'del would simply have to live with it.

For now, she had a wingsecond to talk to.

And a bluerider.

And what was the point of being a weyrleader, however temporarily, if you didn't have the opportunity to play-- just for a little while-- the game of politics? Machinations.

She could wear that.

The Reaches does not breed or train weak women by any stretch of the imagination.

While part of me is really intrigued by this the other part is a teensy bit terrified.

This is intriguing me more and more (and will likely make Jo more and more nervous at the same time). hehe
