| Living Cavern Stalactites hang high above this enormous cavern like a jagged chandelier or an inversion of the Spires themselves, but shadows cling to them instead of light. Below lie great tables arranged in rows, each large enough to serve a fighting wing, while in the nooks and alcoves around the cavern's edge sit more sensibly-sized tables, from six- and eight-seaters down to intimate spots for just a couple of diners. The only really open space is around the kitchen entrance, smelling of food and rarely quiet, and by the nearby serving tables with their long buffet of the day's offerings. Tapestries on the smooth walls -- some faded and others newly woven -- only slightly mute the sea of sound when a meal is in full swing, but they add cheerfulness augmented by the glowlight from wall sconces and the centerpieces of each table. Still, shadows always creep along the ceiling and into the mouths of the exits -- the myriad small hallways at one end of the cavern and, at the other, the twisting tunnel to the bowl near an array of coathooks and and hatracks -- and late at night, when the glows are allowed to dim, the chamber can seem very dark indeed.
"You could always try the Snowasis," Azaylia offers from behind Ashe, a mountainous plate of food balanced in her hands. The tall Weyrwoman has been peering curiously over the starsmith's shoulder, angled head mirrored by the brown firelizard on her own. Who knows where the Weyrwoman came from, although it's likely she's used what privilege she's allowed to sneak off with a bite to eat before it's set out. Or rather, many bites. "It's probably not rowdy," Yet. "But it'll have more people. Less, umm, quiet?" Friendly, if accidentally sneaky. And thus, the cavern now is the best time for people like Alida to step into it, the silent, flat-faced blonde returning from sweeps over High Reaches Hold area, her face a soft pink from the chill of autumn, though her riding gear was protecting her. By the time the bluerider's half way across the area - her livid green eyes slipping about to show her who's where - a golden firelizard pops in from chill between above her head, chittering softly, then moving in for a backwinging landing upon 'lida's right shoulder. Noticing Azaylia, as well as Ashe as she pets her flit, they get a bob of plaited head from the woman, but nothing more as she continues towards the night hearth area to nab something hot to drink. Ashe not only visible startles but lets out a shriek as her quiet is suddenly not as quiet when Azaylia makes her suggestion. Such short lived living cavern silence. "Oh! You startled me," says the new master of stating the obvious. "Such a fright as my heart has never seen." Could she be joking? There's a gleam in her warm eyes that certainly might indicate as such. "Late lunch? Early dinner? Is this your table? I can move my maps if you want." Alida's entrance isn't noticed as much as the chittering does, causing Ashe's brows to tweak curiously. Azaylia does give a visible start, Ashe's shriek followed by a high-pitched squeak. Eep! "I'msorry." Voice is pinched, not quite a whimper but lacking in breath to be any louder. The goldrider takes a step back, only now realizing the invasion of personal space before she gives a soft laugh, "No, really. I shouldn't have been so nosy, but..." Her eyes shift to the maps, dark and curious. It's Don, the brown firelizard, who notices the gold and her girl thing, which draws Azaylia's attention over to smile at the blue rider. Ashe's question brings her right back, "Oh, I don't know. I just got hungry. Oh! No. This is Alpine's. I... they aren't using it, right now. I don't see the harm." There's a not-so pleasant little smirk tugging at Alida's mouth when Ashe practically shrieks when Zay surprises her, but the bluerider lets sleeping dogs lie for the moment, mostly concentrating on warming herself up inside...and on easing some 'phantom' hunger pangs she's picking up on from Pyrite. While the dark-sunflower-toned, little beastie hooks her tail around her human's neck for extra stability - her jeweled eyes whirling the red of hunger as she chirples saucily back to Don - the palest-blonde finds herself covering a small hint of snicker-giggles at Azaylia's reaction with her hand. Give her about 3 minutes to walk and gather what she wants, and the woman is returning to the cavern with a small bowlful of raw meat scraps, plus a steamy mug of tea. Looks like she's ambling over in the other womens' direction. "Oh, that's good," Ashe shakes her arms loose and then repositions her study of the table. The slender teenager walks up and down one side considering, and then rounds around the end to walk up and down the other side. In between, she slips Alida and her firelizards funny glances, completely missing Don. "Master Guitera wanted me to make a presentation for him when he goes to speak with the Weyrleaders about what we'd like to do. All the workspace in the craft area was taken up and no one was here so..." Realizing that she doesn't have to explain herself when already given permission, Ashe's voice lapses into sheepish silence. "I'm Ashe, ma'am." "Well met, Ashe." Azaylia's smile is bright, subconsciously shifting the plate from one hand to the other as her brown firelizard does his best to reach what's on the plate. Huff! Mention of the Weyrleaders has her interest, obviously, "Oh? What would you like to do?" She's not one to omit anything, even if it might benefit her. "I'm Azaylia, of gold Hraedhyth." A Weyrwoman who tends not to wear her knot, when home. It's in those three passing minutes when Alida approaches that she turns to the bluerider's scraps, "Not hungry yourself?" Her own gnawing hunger has her picking what finger foods she can, careful not to get it on Ashe's maps. That may be the reason she hasn't invited herself to sit-- or simply manners." Alida doesn't overtly 'interfere' in the chat between the two womenfolk, her silent presence taking up a seat a good 10 feet down from them to allow the pair at least some kind of privacy. Once again, hungry Pyrite gives Zay's Don a chirple or returned greeting, and then she's hopping down from the bluerider's shoulder to tabletop, crooning quietly while awaiting her upcoming meal. Apparently the flit is well-trained, as she's being patient and rather polite in her demands for chow. Over to the incognito Weyrwoman is noted, "Nah...not yet...though this one..." cue a jerk of chin to only-subtly begging Pyrite "...is tryin' ta convince my stomach otherwise." And quickly enough, a little gobbet of meat is popped into the wide-open maw of the tiny gold, who almost swallows it whole. A quick stare from Alida reminds the flit to chew first, and she does so around soft little sounds of pleasure. If Alida's listening in on the pair, she's not showing it, concentrating on feeding her firelizard, and blowing on her mug of tea. Ashe recognizes the name, if not the face, and now when met with the face that attaches to that name the tawny-skinned girl flushes. "I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you from your portraits." The silent beating she's giving herself is writ all over her face, along with that shake of her head. "Weyrwoman, Starsmith's duties to you, ma'am. I-I...," she stammers, trying to gain her bearings again in the light of Azaylia being right there and looks at her maps and back up. "We were hoping you might indulge our Hall. We were thinking of building an observation post somewhere in," she gestures towards a chain of mountains a short distance from the Weyr - at least if by dragon, "This area." "Portraits?" Azaylia tries not to squeak, though she must've know they're out there. It just makes sense. "I remember getting one done, but..." Which may explain faint inaccuracies, if the artists are working from a single source. Ashe's change in demeanor is noted, a warm smile and a touch to the shoulder offered as comfort. "Azaylia, please. If we're going to have a conversation." Patient with the stammering, she looks back down at the maps and make a curious sound in her throat. Pyrite earns a low chuff from Don, a grunt that shows little interest in dames. There's food. "Interesting! I'm looking forward to your presentation." Alida's plight is a familiar one, and Azaylia nods before pointing out, "Careful. We don't want to ruin Ashe's maps." Or drop a big glob of raw meat on them. New landmass? Alida's always enjoyed Azaylia's understated approach to her 'job,' the blonde absently smiling a hint about the rim of her mug at Ashe's vocal embarrassment at finally recognizing Zay's title. Pyrite gives Don a quick look - a little concerned that he's contemplating trying to get some of *her* food - and then her red regard is back upon her mistress, who offers her another gobbet of noms. A faint wave off of Zay's concern by the faintly blood-touched fingers of her now-free hand is presaged by the bluie's low alto, "Too far away...unless Don wants ta wrestle 'er for it." Snert. "And," Ashe finds poise in a deep drawn in breath that settles her ruffled edges, "I'll be thrilled to help my master present it." If that sounds just a little too practiced, then it should be noted that Master Guitera, the resident ranking Starsmith, is well known for his bookishness, solitary preferences, and surliness. "We think it would be a nice asset to the Reachian area at large, and aid us in our work charting the stars and trying to predict weather patterns." The firelizards, with all their antics, garner Ashe's attention again, and this time she can't help herself, "I thought they'd all but gone extinct! We don't see them that much where I'm from." "I think," Shift plate, "He's more," Again, "Interested in what I have." The burly Don isn't usually so active, leaping from one arm to the other. Clearly Pyrite getting fed has inspired him. "Oh, here." Azaylia coos, picking up a sliver of 'beast and delivering it to the firelizard's maw. Now that there's piece, "It looks like you're aiming for an area outside the Weyr?" Or did she read the map wrong? "As it is, I don't see the harm. But I'll discuss it with the Weyrleader, after you and Master Guitera make your case." Her gaze shifts to the brown firelizard on her shoulder, busily cleaning his front claws of gravy. "They're troublesome creatures," From the baby voice, she doesn't believe a word of that, "But worth it. Would you like to hold him?" Don's head lifts. What. There's more pleased whurrs of sound from Pyrite's throat as she's fed, the firelizard becoming less territorial over her food as her stomach fills. On occasion, Alida carefully pours a tiny bit of her tea - after it's blown on, of course - into the makeshift cup of her palm, and presents the flavored water to her pet to drink between some bites of meat. At Ashe's comment of the little beasties, Alida's clipped, mile-a second, hard-accented voice notes briskly, "Not many up here. Most 're still down South." Aside to Azaylia's tender sounding, if accurate words of firelizards is noted, "Can be...if not trained properly." Looks like that's why Pyrite is so well-behaved - at least when with her owner: the bluerider wouldn't tolerate less. "It's actually technically still part of the Weyr's territory," rather than one of the Holds, clarifies Ashe. "And we'd need some Weyr assistance to getting us and our builders there." Any thought of working further flies out of her head at Azaylia's invitation. "Would he, I mean, would it be ok? Would he let me? He won't bite, will he?" Alida's words draw Ashe's attention to the bluerider, along with a quick sidelong introduction, "Ashe. And I heard there were more down south. She's... like a miniature dragon!" The delight in the teenager's voice is palpable. "Oh, if only Killan could see this. He'd love them." Sadly, Don can't speak for himself. He hunches on Azaylia's shoulder, aware of her intent due to the faint link between them. She doesn't lose that smile, although her whispery soprano takes on a firm note, "He won't bite." The Weyrwoman extends an arm, palm upright and toward Ashe as the firelizard reluctantly lumbers toward the starsmith. "Just hold your arm out. Don't grab." As for what may be required of the Weyr, "Of course. I thought as much. If the project were to go through, I can't imagine there's a shortage of helpful riders looking for something productive to do." But then, Azaylia's an optimist. There's a glance toward Alida and a knowing smile at Ashe's excitement, before she politely inquires, "Killan?" There's a small hint of humor over the interactions of Ashe and Azaylia over rough-tough Don, Alida's lips forming a quiet smirk-smile while she continues to feed Pyrite, those merciless green eyes of hers finally looking over directly at the Starsmith when she introduces herself. "Alida..." is all the bluerider clips off succinctley, her nod re-confirming the other's observation, though her shallow eyeroll for the excessive delight in the crafter's voice. If she only knew. A quick look is exchanged with Azaylia over the crafter's head - don't look at me - before Don's grudging acceptance of his own mistress' commands steals her focus for a few moments. "Still a momma's boy?" she inquires of the Weyrwoman around a faint tug of lips to one side. "He's my little brother," Ashe extends an arm, none too tentatively for all her fears, and just holds it there, suddenly still and quite silent as she waits. The other two women are completely ignored as she stares with wide-eyed intent on tough Don. "I wouldn't say that." To Alida's accusations, "He just knows he'll get a fat belly for being good." As well as oodles of gooey affection and positive reinforcement. Don is heavier than he looks, landing solidly on the apprentice's forearm and clinging. There's a weighty sigh from the firelizard, but he does behave himself while visiting Ashe. The Weyrwoman is happy to answer any questions, likely using her firelizard as a demonstration until the teen is called away. Then it's Alida's turn to annoy Don with unwanted petting while she and Azaylia chat until their own duties have them parting ways. |
