| A group of miners hired by the High Reaches to inspect the boulders littering the ground at the weyr's corm holding have discovered, to everyone's delight, that the rocks are not quite so useless as they first seemed. Word is that they're a kind of rock known as 'pegmatite', and that they show signs of containing some valuable gemstones and minerals, including aquamarine, topaz, beryl and tin, which the miners and smiths would, without question, love to get their hands on. It's good news for the weyr, then, who have, according to all suggestion, already begun formulating a deal for the trade or sale of these formerly troublesome boulders. In the meantime, with spring steadily getting closer - particularly out Crom way, where the snows are likely to disappear sooner than they do at the Reaches - it's very nearly time to start removing those rocks, and then, start planting. In general, while there are plenty of people who still disapprove of the idea entirely, sentiment has begun to turn: it can't hurt, can it? And even if the planting fails, well, at least the proceeds from these boulders will be better than nothing, right? |
