| It was not unusual for a Savannah rider to appear unexpectedly anymore, and was something Edyis was fairly used to. What was unusual in this particular instance was that the note came not from R'hin, but one from one of the informants placed in Nabol. Even as she departed Lilah's company, she was not entirely sure she believed the contents of the note. Doubt numbing her fingers and causing her to fumble with the straps as Nita helped her fasten them. Surely, it had been in error. She did not mention it to R'hin, though he probably knew. Just as he somehow knew most of the things, she did not tell him. Still it was only the one incident, a fluke, an aberration. It wasn't an aberration. At least twice in the months that followed he had been witnessed betting Esvay's future profits. The weyr had it's own issues to deal with; Savannah had it's own issues to deal with. After all Iesaryth had been born in Monaco, and was sired by Leiventh. For that matter how much longer could she continue to lean on Savannah? True enough that she considered them family, and they had never once failed to look after her, but she also knew she had become dependent on them. No, she couldn't go to Savannah for help with this one, not any more than a ride here or there. She had to start dealing with her problems, and relying on her ability to get information. It would mean giving up her Assistant's knot. That was the only way she could get more time, without sacrificing her physical training or the dragon healing lessons with Leova. Prioritizing as R'hin called it. "So you have decided to resign, for a second time." The words were heavy even as the balding master fixed her with that stare of his. "I told you last time what I thought, but I suppose if you want to give up a solid future over..." Jeroman just gestures vaguely leaving the rest to the imagination. "Was it not you who told me I wouldn't be able to advance in the Records Room without a formal education from craft hall? I was already four years past the normal age of acceptance when I started here." Edyis explained with a sigh, "I've learned all I can, and I will still be happy to volunteer for a few hours each week. We both know that I would simply be an assistant forever if I remained." "I won't give you your knot back a second time Edyis. You say you don't want to be an assistant for the rest of your days, and yet have you decided just what it is you want to do?" Those beady eyes fixing on her again. The guilt that washed over her features was answer enough. "Not long term. For now I will be working odd shifts in the riders lounge until I figure out what move to make next." "For the record, I think you are making a terrible mistake. But what say have I in the matter, when you follow after that man like a pup. I'm sure this is his doing." She winced. "No, this is my choice. I can't keep up with the hours right now. I am grateful to you for everything you have taught me, and I hope you will continue to teach me in the future." Her comments are hand-waved. "It's your life, and your choice. Just remember, I won't be taking someone so inconsistent as my assistant in the future." |
