RL Date: 20 November, 2006
Who: Ashenna, B'yan, Charis, Dassah, Josilina, Kali, Llany, M'wen, Maja, R'hin, Shalyn, Shanlee, W'red

Type: Log
When: Day 28, Month 11, Turn 9 (Interval 10)

Your location's current time: 22:01 on day 28, month 11, Turn 9, of the Tenth Pass. It is a autumn evening.

You meander down the flight of steps, towards the eastern bowl. You head towards the western side of the bowl. You walk into the tunnel to the living cavern. Living Cavern, High Reaches Weyr(#1000RJs) The impressive living cavern is seemingly as large as the bowl that cradles the hatching sands. Rivers of polished wood tables and benches arrow towards a raised platform crowned with a compact version of their sturdy design. Neatly crafted pegs, some fancifully carved, are tapped into holes in the wall and support clothing dangling like lazy sleepers. Woven baskets, both useful and decorative, hang along another wall. Bundles of autumn foliage in brilliant reds and oranges mixed with sprigs of crimson berries have been thrust into the baskets on the wall. Pickling spices and the tang of smoking meat fill the air. Banners worked with the designs of Holds and Halls beholden to the weyr cascade down the walls high above, interspersed with several brilliantly colored tapestries. The clink of cutlery harmonizes with the flowing river of talk and gossip as the weyrfolk gather for a hearty evening meal. Llany has connected.

Llany is sitting close to the hearth putting the final tuning on a floor harp tyring out various chords and short pieces of music.

"...And," Josilina is saying as she comes in alongside the Weyrleader, "no one got hurt! Definitely a good hatching." She shoots him a curious glance, even as she starts nodding to various visitors, "What was your worry with that little egg, by the way?"

"One of the best yet - and I'm not saying that simply because Leiventh's the sire." R'hin's agreeing with Josilina, pausing a beat, "All right, so I am, but -he's- very proud and it's hard not to let that affect my judgement." A grin curls his lips as he casts a sidelong glance at the Weyrwoman, lowering his tone briefly, "There were rumors circulating that it wouldn't hatch. You hadn't heard?" R'hin, too, nods to a few who catch his attention, including the harpers setting up for the past hatching feast entertainment.

"Fair enough," Josilina laughs, following his nod, and she goes so far to wave to the Harpers, calling, "Duties to Harper! Thanks for coming." Her 'brows arch at the mention of the rumor, "I hadn't! Strange. Well, Lhia never said anything," as if that's the ultimate authority. "Glad it did, anyway. I think they'll be a good bunch, though I bet I'daur, Maja, and M'wen have their hands full."

Dassah strolls into the cavern from the lower caverns. Dassah has arrived.

"I've no doubt they will," R'hin says, of the weyrlingmaster team, eyes glittering with anticipation. "It ought to be interesting to watch. My money's firmly on I'daur, though - he's a sure bet. Would you like a drink?" he inquires solicitously of the Weyrwoman, though of course he's undoubtedly got the ulterior motive of wanting one himself.

Dassah comes in from the lower caverns. She's changed back into a more normal skirt and shirt, which shows signs of dust from wherever she was previous. Quietly, she makes her way along the outer edge of the room and around towards the feast tables, eyes looking cooly over them.

Llany smiles and nods towards the weyr's primere couple as she starts playing an instrumental piece with wide sweeps of the strings. "Harpers and Ista's duties to High Reaches for a wonderful hatching. I hope we can provide acceptable entertainment." the tanned weyrharper says with a smile.

"He's tough," Josilina agrees. "And then with Maja - well, I think they'll manage to keep the upper hand. A drink?" She hesitates, before nodding, "Sure. Something light, if you don't mind. Do you want anything to eat? I think they have cheese, I'm going to go grab some." - "I'm sure you will, thank you," she calls to Llany.

"Reaches' duties to the Harper Hall," R'hin replies, automatic reaction to Llany's greeting, nodding agreement with Josilina's words. "Light?" he echoes, a faintly teasing tone to his voice, as if doubting her commitment to the decision. "I'll find something suitable. Cheese," he adds, "Would go perfectly with it. Thank you." With a grin, he slips off amongst the crowd, making a beeline for the drinks tables, returning various greetings here and there.

Dassah picks her way along the table, putting together a small meal for herself. Roast tubers, greens, and a bit of sliced herdbeast round out her plate, with a glass of juice to round it out. She makes her way around the table and stops there, looking around the room for an empty, and hopefully quiet, seat.

"Light," Josilina confirms, before branching off towards the meal table. On her way towards joining the line she spots Dassah on her way away, and she offers the girl a smile and a little wave, before merging into the line to collect said cheese, acknowleding various visitors as she goes.

Llany begins to play in earnest accompanied by a couple of other journeymen and apprentices. She starts to play a lovely instrumental piece accompanied by a couple of pipers and drummers. The tune is light and airy, the perfect music to eat dinner by, and with the promise of more to come.

R'hin gives a faint little sigh at Josilina's confirmation, though he's smiling as he steps towards the drinks table, picking up a bottle and a couple of glasses. He does seem to agonize over the decision for quite a while before his selection is made, and then he's hunting for a place to sit, too. Dassah's noted, and the Weyrleader approaches her, murmuring quietly, "There's some spots over by the harpers," he says, by way of invitation.

Dassah returns the Weyrwoman's smile with a polite one of her own, and at R'hin's urging offers him a nod and moves in that direction. "Thank you, Weyrleader. I'm afraid I didn't eat well beforehand, so it seemed wise to do so now." She moves to the table he indicated and settles down with her food, eyeing it balefully before taking a bite of the well-cooked meal.

Charis strides in from the tunnel to the bowl. Charis has arrived.

B'yan strolls in from the tunnel to the bowl. B'yan has arrived.

Ashenna meanders in from the tunnel to the bowl. Ashenna has arrived.

Charis steps into the living caverns, seeming to be cleaned up quite a bit from the sands. She looks around the room, spotting one person in particular, heading directly for Dassah.

"Well tell her to /come/, next time," Josilina says to a tall woman with a Weaver's knot, the two of them lingering near the feast table. They laugh and Jos gives her a backwards sort of wave, heading for the seating area, a plate in hand. She pauses to pick out where R'hin went before heading that way. "Oh, you found company!" She says, delighted, and gives Dassah another smile. "How's the food? I only got little things," she sets down her plate of cheese, vegetables sticks, and other finger-foods, "but everything looked great."

"Most don't. Nerves," R'hin comments to Dassah, with a wry smile. He settles down into the seat next to her, half turned from the table to keep an eye out for the Weyrwoman to catch her eye. In the meantime, he unwinds the bottle, and uncorks it. "Do you have family here from Southern, Dassah?" he inquires. Josilina's approach earns a broad grin, "Mmhm. And I picked out a light wine, too," he adds, as if that should earn him bonus points. "Little things are fine, I'm not that hungry yet."

B'yan is slow to enter the caverns behind Charis, eyeing the meal table with strong scrutiny before he turns and heads in that direction. The room in general barely gets a glance at the moment as he piles his plate.

The music remains lively as the harpers bright eyes dance across the people in the cavern. Her hands dance over the harp strings with almost a volition of their own. The light dolcet tones dance around the stone cavern filling in the empty spaces and tries to set an optimistic tone in the occupied ones.

Ashenna doesn't hesitate at all, making a vtol line straight for the food. With her stomach growling near-audibly as she walks, it shouldn't come as any surprise that she's eager for a plate. She nearly collides with B'yan, stops and murmurs, "Sorry."

Maja strides in from the tunnel to the bowl. Maja has arrived.

Shanlee strides into the cavern from the lower caverns. Shanlee has arrived.

Dassah offers Josilina another small smile. "It's lovely, ma'am." She says, with a glance towards her meal, shaking her head in response to R'hin. "I've family here, but not from Southern. Mother was originally from here, and her brother still lives here. I did have the pleasure of meeting my cousin the other day, she seemed nice." The entry of the weyrlings doesn't go unnoticed, though it's with some surprise that she finds Charis bearing down on her, and offers her friend a small smile. "Hey there, Charis. Congratulations, again."

"Light wine!" Josilina exclaims, feigning surprise, "However did you guess?" She picks some cheese off the plate before shoving it R'hin's way, settling into one of the table's chairs. "Do you think you'll be heading back to Southern, Dassah? Or are you thinking of staying here?" She queries, light but genuinely curious to all appearances. As the weyrlings begin to come in she tips her chair back a little, trying to get a look, before settling it down again. "Surprised this many made it down. I seem to remember almost everyone passing right out," she remarks.

"No one came for the hatching?" R'hin asks Dassah, brow furrowed briefly as he pours the wine, setting one glass in front of Josilina and keeping the other for himself. He reaches across, taking a slice of cheese from the plate Josilina brought back, snorting in amusement at her comment. The faint rise of murmurs and congratulations in the room makes him turn, catching sight of the entering weyrlings with interested look, fingers absently tapping in time to the harper's music. "Most of my class did," R'hin agrees with Josilina.

B'yan is quick to hold Ashenna steady when she collides with him, adding a "Easy there," in a wry tone. With his plate filled and a glass of water, the ex-itinerant looks about at the tables and lights upon the one most interesting. He follow after Charis, making his presence known among those present, though it's to Dassah that he gives the first nod of greeting, his grin wry at that. "Please don't say 'I told you so'," is all he drawls to her before dropping to a seat and then nodding to everyone else.

Shanlee swings into the Living Caverns, freshly bathed and clothed, having managed to finally get the excess oil out of her hair. She pauses a moment as her eyes sweep the cavern finally resting on Dassah, a slightly sad light flickers there a for a second. As she is about to make her way towards her friend, a deep voice stops her in her tracks. "You did good little one" at the same moment a pair of strong arms come from behind, she's lifted and whirled around. "Raveen!" she squeals, and throws her arms around the tall man's neck. Her father steps out from behind her brother "We're right proud of you Shan - she's a real beauty" he pulls her from her brother and hugs her gently. A trio of redheads crowds together in their joy.

Charis nods her head politely to Josilina, "Goodevening ma'am, Weyrwoman." she says nervously, not really having had much of a chance to really talk to the woman. She smiles gently at her friend, "Thank you Dassah." She stands there uncomfortably a moment before heading over to the serving tables for some food, "Sorry." she says before departing. She gets in line, glancing back briefly then takes some food, putting it on her plate.

Maja wanders in behind the weyrlings, heads towards the food and gets in line. "Mmm," she manages, grabbing a plate as she reaches it.

Dassah shakes her head. "My uncle was... Not pleased to have me turn up, truly told, let alone as a candidate. He and my mother did not, it seems, get along. Besides, in retrospect, it's probably for the best that noone did, no?" A slight shrug. "But I don't really have any plans to leave, if that's ok. There's nothing appealing about going back to Southern, and at least here I have friends." One of which has just, obviously confusingly to Dassah, come up to her and rushed away, eliciting a slightly surprised look from Dassah. "Umm." She says, lamely, as Charis rushes away.

Shalyn has arrived.

A flash of irritation passes quickly and she murmurs, "Thanks," to B'yan for keeping her on her feet. She loads up a plate for herself and goes to find a seat where she can eat without knocking into anyone again.

Josilina scoots her chair over a little, as many of the weyrlings make their way towards Dassah. "Evening," she replies to Charis, just before the girl rushes off again. "Of course, it's okay," she nods to Dassah, "we welcome any of you to stay here as a resident. If that's what you want, you can see the Headwoman about it tomorrow." Shanlee's squeal, carrying over the general hub-bub, catches her attention and she grins as she glances back, catching a glimpse. "I'm glad, it looks like her family's doing well with it."

Shalyn weaves her way into the living cavern and slides past the serving tray to pick up a handful of cheese cubes and a glass of white wine before she looks about the cavern for people to both congratulate and console.

Charis glances at B'yan briefly, grabbing a mug to fill with some juice, passing up the wine of course. She watches Shanlee with her father and brother, gray eyes flickering, looking around the room herself in hopes of seeing someone that she knows. Instead, resigned to the fact that no one from her family came, she moves over to a table to sit.

Maja finishes getting her food, and glass and plate in hand, heads over towards R'hin, Josilina and Dassah. "Mind if I take a seat?" she asks, politely enough, of them. "You're staying, Dassah--? I'm glad to hear that."

"Congratulations, weyrlings," R'hin addresses them as a group as they approach, eyes flickering to B'yan, then Charis, following the girl's departure for the tables. His attention refocuses soon enough on Dassah, "Well, I'm glad you're staying, for one. There's always work to be done, and I'm sure we can find something suitable for your talents," he agrees with the Weyrwoman's words, taking a sip of the wine. Maja's entrance, too, is caught, and he brightens, grinning at the brownrider, tipping a hand towards a chair in silent answer.

W'red strolls in from the tunnel to the bowl. W'red has arrived.

Shalyn seeks out the newest of the greenriders, "Shan! Hey Shan!" she shouts to get the girl's attention.

Dassah's eyes flicker briefly to Shanlee, and smiles as she finds her father. "Good." She says, softly. She looks over to Josilina and R'hin, smiling politely. "I will talk to Sirana in the morning, then, and I thank you very much for the invitation." Her eyes glance back to Charis. "I'm sorry, sir, ma'am. Would you excuse me?" She stands, moving away from them and towards Charis, whom she stops near and leans in to speak quietly to.

Dassah mutters to Charis, "... ok?... like that?... really am happy... you,... happy."

Llany starts to play a bit louder as more people start to enter the cavern. The music is some of the more familiar weyr songs without the vocals. This is a time for much conversation amongst the denziens of the weyr she'll not spoil it by singing at this point. Perhaps later though.

W'red makes a quiet entrance, quite a while after the rest of the new weyrlings, he looks around to find where they are sitting. But first things first he wants food, and heads over to the counter to see what he can find.

B'yan flicks a glance in the Weyrleaders' direction, not stopping from eating as he observes everyone else. While most of the weyrlings are looking to seek out their families, he does not, indicating that he's certain no one's there for him. And it seems to bother him little. He notices when Dassah gets up, something crossing his expression as he regards her for just a moment. W'red's entrance breaks it though, raising a glass to the man in silent invitation.

"I should have brought more cheese," Josilina mutters, as the population at the table grows and shrinks. "Evening, Maja," she has a friendly nod for the brownrider, even as she nods a goodbye to Dassah. "Want some cheese? Nice job with them, by the way. On the sands, I mean."

Maja takes the offered seat, smiling briefly at R'hin before turning towards Dassah, "I would offer you a spot on the Ground Watch, but I'm not sure you'd enjoy as much as I'd hope." Then Dassah gets up and Maja turns towards her plate, examining it before picking up some to eat. "No injuries," she remarks towards R'hin and Josilina, "and no cheese, thanks."

Eyes shining Shan grabs her bother and father by the hands and drags them over to the Weyrleaders. "M'am, Sir" she greets respectfully, "I like you to meet my brother Raveen" adoring eyes lift to the man "and my father Shayal" this given with a gentle smile at her father, tinged with relief for his acceptance of her new life.

"Our Duties Sir, Ma'am" both men intone and bow in unison, then move off a way slightly, "Shan we can't stay, it's a long ride home and we'd like to leave tonight" Raveen murmurs regretfully, giving her hand a slight squeeze. Her father nods "Aye, that we do love - but we'll be sure to keep note of your progress" with a final hug, the two turn to leave

Shan smiles bravely at the words "Yes father, Raveen - I understand" and she returns the hugs "Ride well" Shan murmurs before heading back toward the group gathered as her family leaves. A voice calling her name catching her attention. "Shalyn, Hi" she brightens at her friend's entrance.

Shalyn smiles and offers the other woman a congratulatory hug, "Congratulations Shan she's a pretty little thing."

Ashenna pauses between forkfuls to watch the interactions around her. A few of them make her smile, briefly. Her brow furrows as she glances toward the door to the bowl, but then she shrugs, answering a silent question perhaps, and goes back to her plate.

Charis looks up from her food when her friend leans down to talk to her quietly. She nods her head, looking up with a gentle smile, "Yes, thank you." She does sigh softly, gazing around the room again.

There's a slight frown of concern as R'hin watches Dassah head towards Charis, and he glances sidelong at Josilina a moment before leaning forward to snag a bit of bread and some more cheese from the plate. "I'm a big fan of the cheese," he agrees with a curl of lips, before he nods in pleased agreement with Maja's summary, pale eyes glinting as he watches the brownrider. "You and M'wen did well on the sands, today. Couldn't have gone better." Perhaps he notes B'yan's demeanor, for the Weyrleader's attention shifts to the weyrling with a tip of head. "Jaireth seems like he'll be a handful for you." It's difficult to tell if he means it as observation, challenge, or both.

Josilina glances after Dassah again, thoughtful, before turning back to the table. "No, no injuries. That was good," she nods. She gives the room another glance and starts to her feet, "I'm going to go see who else I can bother. Or, be socialable. Whichever. Don't eat all my chese," she adds, with a stern glance at R'hin. She stops to offer duties in return to Shanlee's family, before continuing on across the cavern until - "Ashenna!" She heads for where the girl is sitting, smiling broadly. "Ashenna! Eniolth! Congratulations!"

Dassah gives Charis a concerned look as she sighs, her own expression hovering somewhere near a frown. She continues to speak quietly to her for a moment, a hand briefly rests on Charis' arm. She mutters to Charis, "... someone... to... of... life, you look... use... fresh... think, it's getting... in... walk... me,... me what's..."

"We'll be a handful to each other, I'd wager," is B'yan's quick drawl, regarding the glass before sliding his glance over at R'hin. His expression is a guarded one as he regards the Weyrleader for a long moment without words. Then finally, "Perhaps we'll see," is his casual indifference, forced at most as he returns to the water in his glass, his half-eatern meal now forgotten. Maja gets a grin and nod, though no words spring forth.

W'red takes a plate full, of food, and seeing B'yan lift his glass, W'red heads towards him. Pausing slightly as he passes where R'hin and josilina are seated, "Sir, ma'am." He continues over to B'yan, who seems a bit more sullen than usual. "B'yan, congratulations," he says as he sits next to him. "That was the most confusing few hours of my life," he grins at B'yan, "you okay?"

Charis nods her head and takes a sip from her half full mug before looking around the crowded room. The weyrling seems a little pale, but gets up from the table, not finishing her meal. "I think a walk would be good. Its 'ot in 'ere." She takes her things to put in the bin before moving to follow her friend outside.

Ashenna straightens up where she sits, expression brightening again. "Eniolth," she echoes. "He's perfect, isn't he? Thank you. Er. Ma'am," she adds. "Back to ma'am." That's said with a little nod, reminding herself aloud.

Maja settles down to eating, near her two favorite people (even if neither one can spend much time with the other). "Thank you, I'll be sure to tell M'wen. I'm glad I'm fit as I am, the amount of running I did." She turns towards B'yan, "I'm sure he will be a handful," she remarks with a hint of a smirk, feigning her ignorance of who R'hin was speaking to. "Hello, W'red."

Charis does though go past Josilina and R'hin first to nod and smile at them, "Sir, ma'am. It was a wonderful 'atchin. I feel very lucky to 'ave impressed Qeteth." The former apprentice isn't one to have many words so she leaves it at that before she finds her way to the door.

Dassah smiles encouragingly to Charis as she deposits her mug; while she takes care of that, she herself looks over the other weyrlings again for a moment, Shanlee especially being examined. As they all seem happy and engaged, she nods to herself and turns towards the bowl passage, waiting for Charis to settle in next to her. Charis' comment to the weyrleaders draws more of a smile, and a definate nod of approval before the pair exits.

Dassah walks outside to the bowl. Dassah has left.

"No guarantees, Jos, if you're not here to protect your cheese stash," R'hin warns her, laughingly, as she rises. He shifts over a seat, moving next to Maja, pushing the plate of cheeses and the wine, too, along with him. B'yan's casual indifference, forced or not, is taken at face value, and the Weyrleader doesn't seem inclined to push. If anything, there seems a hint of sympathy in pale eyes, before attention is taken by W'red's greeting. "W'red. Congratulations. Tavaith seems a good match for you." Maja's comment earns a sidelong look, bland of tone, just a hint of glittering eyes, "Does that mean I can claim a dance later?" His hand gestures in the direction of the harpers. Charis' greeting earns a smile and a nod as she and Dassah leave.

"Unfortunately," Josilina agrees with the reminder. "And yes, he's lovely. Wonderful coloring - and he was the first hatched, wasn't he? The Headwoman will be so happy for you, I bet." She hesitates, hovering by an empty chair. "Mind if I sit, for a bit? Or are you," she gestures vaguely with a hand, "all worn out and just trying to eat then escape?"

Shanlee grins at Shalyn "I certainly think she is" spirits lifting, at least they came and were happy for her. Spotting Dassah her previously intended target Shan is about to go over, when she notices her deep in quiet conversation with Charis. Maybe later then, and she moves over to the counter, not really hungry a mug of klah is chosen. Shan watches the two girls leave and heads back over to the table. "W'red, B'yan, once again Congratulations" she twists to find the other weyrlings before taking a seat herself. "Ashenna - I'm so pleased for you, he's beautiful."

Charis walks outside to the bowl. Charis has left.

Now it's pride that flickers into Ashenna's expression as she nods, fork poised over her plate. "He did. And there I was, telling Tavrie that a brown hatching first was good luck. I didn't mean it for me, necessarily, but I wouldn't take it back for anything, now. Oh!" She gestures. "Please sit down? I think I can stay awake a while." Shanlee's comment earns another broad smile. "Thank you. Congratulations to you too. She's a pretty one."

B'yan raises a worn brow at W'red as he joins him, putting the glass down. "Congrats to you," he nods to curtly to him. "Yes, it was...something. Jaireth seems to be worse than my little green." Hiw question gets a shrug, "Not much for crowds, I guess," he drawls, looking about at all present. "I need to think about some things, but I'll be alright...I think," and he doesn't sound too certain as he notes Maja's quips with a smirk. "Now Maja," he drawls to her, "are you expecting me to cause trouble for you and yours?" Hazel eyes seem to glint at that before flicking the glance to the Weyrleader. Shanlee gets a nod, "And congrats to you," he adds. "Excited, hm?"

W'red greets Maja, "ma'am," he grins at her, he nods at the Weyrleader, "yes 'sir' Tavaith and I will be perfect," the grin on his face seems to be stuck there. W'red Stands and gives Shan a friendly hug, "congratulations to you too Shan." As Shan sits W'red sits again still waiting for some sort of reply from B'yan.

Josilina slides into the seat, resting her elbows on the table. "Well! Good luck, clearly then. I'd love to meet him, sometime - you know, after you two are more settled, used to each other, all that. But, sometime." She calls out a cheerful, "Congratulations, Shanlee!" as the new greenrider passes near as well.

Maja lifts her head up from a large bite, eyes widening briefly at R'hin's new proximity. She would say something, but she'd probably make a mess in the process. A forced gulp, and she mutters, "If you'll teach me to dance-- I'm surprised you know how." That was as close an acceptance as he'll get. To B'yan: "Of course you will, I don't doubt it. But you know what sort of eye you're under now, so I hope that deters you from the most obvious things." W'red gets an acknowledged nod.

A light grin is R'hin's offering to Shanlee as the new green weyrling arrives. "That green of yours looks like she might tire you out pretty quickly," he observes after taking a gulp from his glass. W'red's response earns a quirked grin and a nod of agreement, gaze flickering towards B'yan, too, but remaining silent on the subject. Maja's comment receives a surprised look. "You didn't-- ah. You missed the hatching feast at after our hatching, didn't you? I danced plenty, there. We wouldn't want to mess with tradition, would we?" There's a distinct emphasis in there, the bronzerider's tone dry. "I'll teach you," he agrees.

"Any time you like," Ashenna agrees. "Well. Except right now, because I'm not sure he'd go back to sleep if he woke up. But any other time you like. " She lowers her voice a little and confides, "You're not *quite* ... mm. I'm sure he'd like you better, I'm trying to say."

Shanlee smiles up at W'red "He certainly suits you" giving B'yan a wink "You're not?" she asks of his own excitement, knowing she'd earn a dry retort for that one. "Ma'am" and a brief nod of her head is directed at Maja. The Weyrwoman's words are met with yet another grin "Thank you Ma'am" her cheeks were starting to ache now. Turning her attention to the Weyrleader, a note of awe still tinges her voice whenever her new lifemate is mentioned."She must just at that, but she'll be worth every minute of it"

"Of course not now," Josilina agrees with a chuckle. Her 'brows lift, just a bit, and she leans forward, "Quite...? And, than who?" She asks in some confusion.

B'yan notes W'red and R'hin's attention with mild interest before adding, "I'm alright, just a bit out of it," he tells W'red. "Got alot on my mind...especially in regards to my family," and he looks almost pointedly at R'hin. To Shanlee, he raises a brow, "I'm not the type to get easily excitable, perhaps," he notes idly before grinning. It's Maja that has him smirking all the more, tipping his head in her direction with a drawled out "Ah. You know me so well. How fortunate for the Weyrlingmaster to have you with him."

Ashenna chews through a mouthful of food before she answers, forehead wrinkling. "Not quite in charge of him just yet," she hedges. "He didn't think much of the weyrlingmaster."

Josilina crinkles her nose, a little, "That could be bad," she says, most unhelpfully. Straightening a little, "He'll learn to, I'm sure. Or, if not think much of him, listen. I was just saying to R'hin," she nods to where the Weyrleader is sitting with various others, "I'daur's a pretty tough guy. I'm sure he won't go any lighter on you all than S'din. Which," she pulls a face, "isn't supposed to sound as bad as it does. I just mean, you know. Young dragons are... young. But they learn. And you'll learn to work with him."

Kali strides in from the tunnel to the bowl. Kali has arrived.

W'red nods at B'yan's explanation and actually understands, as he doesn't have any family, to have been there, "I see," is all the answer he gives B'yan. "Thanks Shan, I'm sure we will all have our hands full for the next few months." Slowly the grin is subsiding and the ache of grinning is becoming increasingly apparent. He settles down to sort out the food on his plate.

Shanlee bites down on her tongue in order to avoid sticking it out at B'yan in such illustrious company and simply smirks at him. Ashenna's remark draws a chuckle "Kaylith is rather amused by how big he is - so am I for that matter" Shan notes, although that most people stood taller than her, shouldn't be a surprise, perhaps it was the gruff sort of 'in charge' demeanour of the Werylingmaster that made him seem even bigger.

"Perhaps I should be glad I missed that one," Maja quips to R'hin, "I was quite exhausted, and dozed off completely." For the first time she notices the wine, and gives a second glance to the cheese. A few of the pieces are taken into her hand. "Yes, perhaps it was good foresight of me to go to him about the position-- it wasn't but a few days ago that everything was official." Shanlee is given a nod. "Greetings, Shanlee."

Ashenna nods a few times. "I'm sure it's just that everything's new." She manages a smile for both Josilina and Shanlee and confesses, "I've heard stories about S'din."

Kali enters the living caverns after the crowd. She scans the room, looking for someone and spots him. She makes a bee-line for one of the newest riders, not forgetting to notice the few other familiar faces. There is a shy smile on her lips as she finally reaches B'yan. "I'm not interupting anything I hope. Came by to say I told you so." she smiles.

R'hin quickly drains the rest of his glass, blithely oblivious - or at least good at appearing so - to B'yan's look, as obvious as it is. Maja's snatching of the cheese earns a low-throated chuckle, the Weyrleader's lips curving as he responds, "I'm glad," the words spoken in quite a fervent undertone. "Speaking of the Weyrlingmaster, I should go and speak to him about a... matter. I'll be back a bit later, with any luck." With a smile towards Maja and an easy nod to the gathered weyrlings, he rises. Interestingly, he takes a detour past the drinks table, snags a bottle and a couple of glasses, and heads for the door. Seems this 'matter' is not so weighty as he implied.

You wander outside to the bowl.
