| Your location's current time: 16:58 on day 26, month 9, Turn 58, of the Tenth Pass. It is a autumn afternoon. Weyrling Memorial in the Mountains(#420RJs) Surrounded by the jagged peaks of the northern mountain range, the ground is covered by a blanket of white snow, the flakes swirling as the stinging winds howl across the desolate landscape. The snow, however, does not cling to the sheer cliff face that rises out of the ocean of sunlit white, instead framing the rock in a surreal glow. As the vision adjusts to the blinding snow, the details of the cliff face become defined. As if carved by the tools of the Minecraft, a set of draconic and human bones are embedded in the rock. The image shows a human atop a dragon in profile, the vision eerie. This, however, was not the work of any tool as this is the unofficial memorial of a Weyrling Betweening, a reminder of an accident of Passes passed. There is no plaque or sign to memorialize this grave; the poignancy of the bones themselves is all that is needed. Obvious exits: Clearing Kamer walks out from the surrounding area outside the weyr. Kamer has arrived. It's a few hours before sunset on a cool autumn's afternoon in the mountains just north of High Reaches Weyr. It is a desolate area indeed, and few would have reason to be here - other than the occasional group of High Reaches weyrlings. With none in the Weyr at present it's a safe bet that no one will be around and, indeed, when one arrives the place is deserted - except for one. R'hin's standing at the base of the cliff, one foot resting on a nearby rock, elbow leaning against the bent knee. His wearing his riding leathers against the cool wind. Leiventh, however, is not with him - the dragon circles in the sky far above, almost invisible, just a tiny black dot against the sky. The bronzerider doesn't look up at him, in fact appears in deep, distracted thought, head down. Right on time, as if Kamer would never be prompt. If anything, he's been in the area before the bronze dragon was spotted. Walking to the indicated spot with a leisurely gait, the older rogue notes the rider with barely a glance at the memorial gets his full attention. By the time he's standing next to him, there's a strong glare at the gruesomeness of the memorial, hazel eyes taking it in very slowly. He says nothing for a long moment, hands clasped behind his back and standing stiffly like he's a Lord Holder. "Are you the one?" is all finally manages to ask, clearly not one for introductions. The slight move of head is the only indicating R'hin gives of being aware of Kamer's appearance, slowly straightening and dropping his foot to the ground once more. Deliberately, he has his back to the memorial, perhaps noting Kamer's reaction to it, but not taking any particular pleasure from it. Hands spread, a faint twitch of lips in response to the greeting, "Who else would come -here-, willingly?" he says, by way of answer. Pale eyes flick up and down Kamer's form, taking him in, and sincerely, "It's good to finally meet you. I've heard... a lot." A wealth of alternatives are available in that pause, but he selects the generic. To the point, as Kamer is: "Do you wish to start off with a threat about my keeping away from your sister, or was that your brother's own agenda?" Kamer looks to the memorial one more time before R'hin gets his full attention. He doesn't give him scrutiny, which could probably mean he knew exactly what the bronzerider looked like before he came to the spot. His question gets a careful arched brow before eyes flick again to the memorial, "I'm... sure there are some..." he muses coolly before a hand goes to absently rub at his chin. At the comment about him, his eyes instinctively narrow as he regards him, "Have you," he states more than asked. "And I've heard a bit about you, these days. I don't get requests to meet riders willingly." The last question has him drawing up some, giving him a cool gaze, "Are you looking for threats today, R'hin?" he asks in a guarded tone. "And I would appreciate you not insinuating I'm like... him." There's a hint of a warning in that statement before he briskly continues with a sharp nod, "I'm here for Aya, which it's come to my attention you've been seeing. In and of itself, I could care less who she sees...she's a rider," and there's clear contempt in his voice at that, "and it's common for riders to see each others. That's not my concern. What is...is your intentions in connection with my business." "Not looking," R'hin admits with a twitch of shoulders, a uncompleted shrug, "But they seem to come with your family. Your brother in particular. I thought we'd get that out of the way, before anything else." His hands spread wide, as if in conciliation. The warning, and the words earn a tip of head, before he offers easily, "My apologies, then. I was told you were not like your brother, but then, being told and seeing it for yourself are two entirely different things." Any trace of facetiousness is gone, a slight straightening of shoulders given, his demeanour altering slightly - far less antagonistic than originally. "I'm glad you see differently on that score," but it's said easily, without much regard, as if it is not his true reason for being here. It is the latter question which earns a pause, voice even, "I've no issue with the business of you and yours, only in as far as it affects my own plans for High Reaches Weyr. As a man of... business," a faint hint of stress to that word, "I'm sure you can appreciate my concern in that regard." Kamer barely nods, "Good," is his curt answer. "I'm aware of Bayan's...behavior where you're involved. He has power, but not much. His...threats...wouldn't be put to action without my approval." There's a twitch at the side of his mouth, probably his version of amusement as he adds "Bayan and I are very different, which is why he's an asset to me. We can resolve this issue first before we move onto other things." As for the comment of his business, his demeanor turns businesslike as he looks toward the memorial, "I don't see what my business will have to do with the Weyr," he stiffly supplies with an air of a Lord Holder, "but if your...plans even remotely come to affect me and mine, it's going to be of interest to me." He looks pointedly at R'hin now, still guarded but with only a trace of indifferent coolness. A twitch of lips, "We'll get to that later. What is it you wish to discuss of my brother?" It almost seems unconscious, the way R'hin reacts to Kamer's businesslike demeanour in kind, or perhaps it is falling into old habits; pale eyes guarded. Simply, "Your brother has threatened me. Ordinarily I would give it little regard, since it is not the first time he has done so, but he has invoked your name in doing it. And... I hear you are not one to cross. I wish to ensure things are settled with you." Hands swing behind his back and are clasped there, as if deliberately presenting little physical threat, head tilted. "It is a given that if your brother remains in the Weyr, we will clash again. I say that as fair warning, not threat." A beat, then, "Should he choose to return to Fort - where I hear he would be warmly welcomed - then it will be of no consequence." There's a long moment of silence from Kamer at R'hin's words, his expression showing no true emotion. Hands clasping behind his back as well, he tips his head a fraction, brows furrowed. "I know he has," he states in a dismissive tone, "you've seemed to have gotten to him. He may have used my name, but it is of little consequence." He pauses long, eyes sweeping the area with the ease of one who does it without thinking, "Business isn't much in Fort. The Reaches have been good to us, so his leaving here will be hard fought. He can go where he pleases, as long as he obeys me," and there's a clear dangerous tone in his voice, gone in seconds. "It's because of this that he stays. I suggest going to our sister if you want to ...tame the wild beast." A beat. "If I find no threat from you, you'll find his behavior will alter...slightly. Other than that, I think he finds your spats to be a favorite past-time." As to the other comments about himself, his lips thin, "Not one to cross...I suppose that's the going statement when it comes to me," he admits coolly, clearly not wishing to discuss that aspect of himself further. "You've been watched," he suddenly states, "and I haven't seen anything to be concerned about. Bayan 'will' see reason on that when I'm done with him." "The 'Reaches will change," R'hin says, simply, with a note of confidence. "Perhaps it will make business harder. But... having met you, perhaps it will make business easier for you. We will talk when the time comes, and we will see." That... almost seems to be an offer. A grin appears at the mention of spats, and the bronzerider agrees with not the slightest trace of chagrin, "It certainly keeps the day from being boring." He respects Kamer's wish not to discuss himself further, that particular aspect, at least, familiar to himself. "I appreciate you meeting with me. It won't be forgotten." A respectful nod given - a rare gesture indeed, and perhaps Kamer has heard enough to know that to be the case. A slight whisper, a whistle in the air is the only indication of Leiventh's descent, the bronze alighting to the ground a short distance away, glancing briefly at the man but otherwise uninterested. "Areas don't change," Kamer puts in stiffly, "but people do. The things we're involved are always...fluid. Easy, hard...it makes no difference to me." He notes the silent offer with a quick assessing look his way, "I suppose we will," is all he says on it. At his grin, the rogue looks to the memorial, "Bayan won't be a problem unless you go out your way to make him so," he states evenly. "He's more civillized than I am. He's protective of Aya, but I have a feeling that will change drastically in the coming days." A cryptic statement, accompanied with a pleased grimace. He nods barely to the rider's appreciation, noting the respect thoughtfully. "Despite how I may act and treat her, I do care about her," he says quietly. "She will realize very soon how alike we both are. She had alot of potential, and she still may have it." Glancing at him finally, "You seem not like what I expected of riders. For your sake, I hope your intentions with her are pure. I don't have the time nor patience to seek you out under...different circumstances," and he leaves the implications to the air and his cool look. "I can see why she likes you," he adds dryly and grudgingly, perhaps with a hint of...respect? A twitch of lips is R'hin's initial response to Kamer's assertion about the static nature of areas. "Because of... tradition?" the statement is followed by a faint curl of lip. A sharp gesture of his hand seems to negate that statement, though he doesn't do so aloud. "My relationship with Aya is between her and myself," is all he says of that, touching a hand to the necklace he wears - deliberately, it would seem. "I have no intention of hurting her, but you of all people must understand that relationships with..." he pauses over what he was going to say, amending, "...riders are unique." A hint of humor in his voice, light, "I am not like other riders, because I was never meant to -be- a rider. I should never have been one. But here I am, and it is an outcome I must live with - as must the Weyr." He says that almost as if it will be to the detriment of the Weyr. "Traditions can be broken," Kamer says dryly. "I prefer change and action. It's why the Hold and I never had agreement. What they wanted, and what I wanted, don't match." A pause. "The Weyr is no different. The holdless and traders got it right," and it seems deliberate that he doesn't mention renegades. He notes the sharp gesture with faint interest, but doesn't comment further, instead adding "It maybe between you and her, but she is blood and there's alot you don't know. She's...not herself right now, I hear," and there seems to be an approving look, as though her new condition could be of import to him. He notes the necklace, not missing anything, but also outwardly says nothing. At the latter comments, there's a knowing glint in his hazel eyes. "Aya was never meant to be a rider," he adds quickly. "She doesn't belong in a Weyr. Despite all, there's ways to deal with such misfortunes." R'hin gets a calculating look, "You speak as one not of the Hold," he observes finally, "and I can tell by your demeanor. You don't act ragged enough to be from holdless stock, so you must have been a trader of some sort." A beat. "I can tell because you're still standing with all your teeth," he adds dryly. "Traditions can, indeed, be broken," R'hin echoes Kamer with a note in his voice - intensity of a sort, perhaps even fervour, though his voice is low enough that it may be difficult to determine. "Change can be made... with the right people." Though he doesn't miss the omission of renegades in the other man's list, his own statement is just as pointed. There's a slight shift to his stance and a curious look as to the cryptic comments about Ayana, though he doesn't ask any questions, perhaps secure in the knowledge he'll find out himself, eventually. A guarded, thin-lipped smile is afforded Kamer at the calculating look, and the latter comments. "Of some sort," he eventually agrees. His head half turns, not quite looking away from Kamer, but indicating a reaction to something. "I hope you will not be adverse to another meeting, should it be... necessary. We must return before our absence is noted." He steps sideward first, half keeping his body angled towards the other man - wary until he's out of physical reach. He doesn't seem particularly afraid of Kamer, simply giving him the cautious behaviour one of his nature deserves. Kamer pauses long before nodding to that in agreement. "The right people can change many things," he states in a usual guarded tone, "or atleast the worthy ones." He doesn't give anymore to his cryptic statements of his sister, acting simply as though they were never said. At his agreement of who he use to be, the rogue gives hint of approval to him in his eyes, "Very good," he seems to drawl that out slowly. "Then you truly weren't meant to be a rider. It's a misfortune that it's happened to you and her both." He notes R'hin's behavior closely, calculatingly as his once-tense stance slightly relaxes now that he has an idea of the rider's lineage. "A meet can be possible," he finally says evenly and briskly, "if I'm in town." A pause as he then steps away, finally turning away from the weyrling memorial, "I must be on my way as well," he agrees, back to his stiff, cool grace of one who has done it for turns. Eyes seeking Leiventh, "You'll be disregarded, cautiously," he states as his final decision on whether or not the bronzerider was a threat. R'hin moves towards Leiventh, pausing near the bronze, but not paying any of the particular attentions a rider would usually to their dragon - perhaps in deference to Kamer's presence. "I can travel wherever necessary," the rider observes, tone pointedly neutral. Though his back is to Kamer as he checks over the straps, the hook-nosed bronze has turned his head in the man's direction, as if keeping an eye on him, in turn. At the latter statement, R'hin finally turns, pale eyes as cool and guarded as Kamer's own. "I couldn't ask for more. Cautious is, after all, the safest way to live." With another tip of head, respect and farewell, the bronzerider turns and climbs the dragon's side. Cinnamon wings sweep outwards nearly before he's settled, and the pair is aloft and blinking between mere moments later. Leiventh> To you, Leiventh's wary assessment is given, « Be careful of that one. » With another glance to the bronze, Kamer concedes the point with a firm nod, "Then perhaps....you'll find me," he says. He returns Leiventh's look coolly, eyes glinting with barely any emotion. At the statement, however, his eyes snap to the rider's back, "Caution always is," he agrees stiffly, oddly returning the respectful tip of head to him as R'hin mounts. Not watching them leave, the rogue turns one last look at the memorial before making his way from the area, one of the rare emotions finally showing on his face again: thoughtful. |
