| Your location's current time: 0:23 on day 1, month 5, Turn 59, of the Tenth Pass. It is a spring night. You swoop down to a landing on the ground. You hop down Leiventh's side to the ground, using his foreleg as a step. Western Bowl, High Reaches Weyr(#880RJs) Standing on the western side of the bowl, the high crownlike spires of the Seven Spindles on the north wall tower magestically above the roughly ovoid bowl floor. Near you, a large boulder stands, placed almost exactly in the center of the bowl. This side of the bowl is busy with the constant flow of residents and visitors around the entrance to the living cavern to the southwest and the lower caverns to the west. To the north, the large opening on the upper wall leading into the hatching grounds catches your eye. Directly below it, the ground entrance to the same area seems almost tiny. Northwest, the weyrs belonging to the junior queens of High Reaches are accessible from a short set of stairs and a path of carefully laid black marble leads from them to the entrance to the living cavern. To the south, a few ground weyrs remain unoccupied, in case any visiting or injured dragons need them. The evening is clear, not a cloud to be seen, giving you a perfect view of the stars. The smaller Belior shines in half moon while Timor is a nearly full waning gibbous. There seems to be a light breeze and the spring air feels a bit nippy. Wonder what he's been up to at this time of night she thinks rubbing her stiff neck. It seems whatever errand had the pair out this late occurred somewhere else. A light dusting of snow lingers on Leiventh's hide as he descends and lands on the bowl floor, some of it dislodged by R'hin's dismount a short time later. Tugging his helmet off, the Weyrleader runs a hand through his hair, tugging off his gloves as he regards the dragon for a moment with a curl of lips. Movement across the bowl catches his attention, pale eyes tracking to Shanlee for a short time before he moves to towards her, "Walk with me, Shanlee," he says, by way of abrupt greeting. Shanlee eyes him speculatively for a moment before answering "Why Good Evening to you too" she answers evenly and wrapping her shawl tighter across her shoulders she walks over to him. R'hin bestows a level, sidelong look at Shanlee at her response, though there might be just a small twitch of lips in the glance. "More like good morning," he corrects, "Though perhaps only shortly begun." Hands in pockets, he nods towards the lower caverns, directing their path that way. "You're out late. I didn't expect anyone to be around." Shanlee says "It's so peaceful outside at this time of day" she shrugs "Besides I'm used to being up with birds". She tries to match her stride with his, damned if she was going to look like a child trying to skip to keep up with hm and follows him into the lower caverns." You stroll through the archway, into the lower caverns. Lower Caverns(#1090RJs) This large cavern is alive with activity as people congregate to finish up projects, plan out new ones or simply socialize. A quieter corner is usually filled with people in earnest conversation, the occasional laughter ringing out from the Living Caverns where noisier groups converse. Last minute errands are completed quickly, folks eager to relax after a busy day. Sleepy eyed children wander through murmuring protests as they are taken off to bed and the weyr's early risers head back up towards the living quarters in search of quieter pastimes. Passageways lead off in many directions around the cavern, forming a nexus of sorts. An archway opens up into the bowl; a wide tunnel leads out of the weyr; a well worn set of stairs rise up to the living quarters of the Weyr staff; and sounds and smells from the south indicate the presence of the Living Caverns and Kitchen. R'hin sets a decent pace, though in fairness he does seem to purposely check himself, slowing marginally to ease the abruptness. "The birds are sleeping for quite a while yet," he observes with a sardonic twist of lips. He looks tired, though he's trying not to show it; he angles towards the hearthside as they step into the lower caverns, selecting a couple of mugs. His hands linger for a moment over a bottle of wine, but perhaps wisely selects a pitcher of warm cider instead, before diverting their path towards the common rooms. "You've been a difficult person to catch." He notes, easily. Shanlee following closely on the weyrleaders heels, smiles to herself as she notes his selection. "Some birds have a way and path of their own" she answers him. "Why, if I'd known you were looking for me, I would have come running at first notice" Shanlee answers teasingly. "Don't you mean, you'd have run in the other direction?" R'hin's look is rather disbelieving of Shanlee's words, teasing aside. Mugs and pitcher held firmly, he sets a slightly less urgent pace. You wander up the stairs to the residents' quarters. Common Room(#868RJLs) This small cavern has the crisp smells of a recent cleaning, mingled with its more usual smells of klah, woodsmoke, and people. Baskets of glows are scattered about the room, lighting up dark corners and generally providing a cozy atmosphere. Several chairs sit at a large, round table, and more chairs are against the walls, waiting for use. A large, soft fur is spread out in front of a small stone hearth which keeps the cavern warm for its occupants. Shanlee has arrived. Shanlee nearly tripping over her feet on the stairs she looks at him and frowns "Run the opposite way? Now why would I do that?". R'hin heads unerringly for the hearth, his selection thankfully free due to the late time of day. The pitcher and mugs are set on the small table between the chairs set around the warm area, and the Weyrleader unbuttons his flying jacket as he eyes Shanlee in momentary surprise. "Weren't you there when we were discussing all the reasons why people should? It seems," a flash of a smile, though perhaps it is more a grimace, "Seems to work well enough for my Wingleaders." Shanlee says "Oh yes, ......that!" she moves to the hearth and holds her hands out to warm them. Looking over her shoulder at R'hin, she raises an eyebrow and asks "I was hoping that you would have realised, I'm not like that until I'm given good reason to be!". Turning away from the fire she folds her arms across herself and gives him a challenging look." Aware she's watching him, and just as blithely attempting to ignore it, R'hin shrugs out of his jacket and slings it over the nearest chair's arm, before leaning to pour two mugs. The first is offered to Shanlee, perhaps as a silent peace offering, waiting patiently for her to take it. "I'll do my best to avoid giving you a good reason, then." The faintest curl of lips, and the slight glimmer of eyes suggests amusement. Shanlee takes the few steps to the chair nearest him and seating herself, takes the offered mug from him. She holds the mug for a while before taking an appreciative sip. "Then you have no reason to worry about my trying escape your menacing presence" she smiles over at him. R'hin takes his own mug and, now that Shanlee's seated, he seats himself as well. Fingers wrap around the mug, perhaps soaking in their warmth, even gaze on Shanlee. He doesn't return the smile, and the reason is obvious a second later, "We've a conversation unfinished," he finally says. Shanlee stiffens, Oh Shards!! Did the man never give up? Placing her mug on the table with perhaps a little too much force she lets out an exasperated sigh. "And here I was thinking you simply were wanting to enjoy my company!" she says sarcastically. R'hin's lips curve into a smile, deliberately nonchalant, "I can't want that too?" he asks. Shanlee says "Hhhmmm......you can want a lot, but will you always get it?" she asks lightly. Shifting a little to cross one leg over the other." "That's half the challenge, Shanlee," R'hin retorts, swiftly, the smile not dimming. He takes a sip of his cider, studying her over the rim of the mug, serious all of a sudden. "You understand why it concerns me, don't you? Why it's important?" Shanlee gives a low chuckle "That's half the fun of life isn't it?" Picking up her mug and taking a long swallow, she returns his look and answers "I do, but really it wan't anything to get worried about, especially when you have enough to contend with" "Well, you had me worried, and I -have- been worried." R'hin's not watching Shanlee now, running a hand through his hair as his gaze focuses on the hearth. A beat, then quietly, "M'wen's important to me." Shanlee shakes her head slightly "I did try to tell you that, the last time we met. It was simply a heated exchange over your new rise to Weyrleader..........and you don't need to worry about M'wen, he was staunchly definding you." Cocking her head to one side she asks "There's more isn't there?", and then frowning "I'm sorry, it's not my place to ask." Must be the cider, letting down her normal reseverdness Shanlee thought. "I know he was defending me." There's certainty in R'hin's statement, a knowing that applied even before she spoke the words. "I'm worried about who he was arguing -with-. I can hazard a guess." Pale eyes flick towards Shanlee, tiredness there, then away. Pointedly silent. Shanlee raises her eyebrows "And your guess would be?" The poor man looked absolutely shattered with exhaustion. "Our resident itinerant," R'hin's lips curve at the oxymoron, delivered deliberately. "Bayan." Shanlee says "And you would guess right then." Stretching her legs out in front of her and crossing her ankles she takes another long swallow of the cider. "Look, I'm sorry I gave you such a hard time the other night.......I just hate to tell tales out of school so to speak. I've had enough told about me........". Shards, speaking before thinking again! Shanlee puts the mug on the table and carefully pushes it away from her." A slight tip of head indicates that R'hin's not in the least surprised by the confirmation. "It's all right," he allows, "Everyone has their thing. The one thing they feel strongly about." A hand passes across his eyes, and a low exhale escapes him before he pushes up from the chair, draining his mug. "I have to go. I'll see you around, Shanlee." Shanlee smiling up at him, stands to her feet too. "I'm glad we've sorted that out now" she extends her hand "Friends?" R'hin's expression betrays tired surprise at her words. "Friends?" he echoes, bemused. "Certainly not enemies, anyway, and that's a step up." He steps closer to press roughened fingers against hers, clasping her hand briefly before turning away. Shanlee smiles "And for that I am grateful, Goodnight R'hin" she says thinking ....He'll be okay, he has the strength and determination to do what needs to be done. "Goodnight." The Weyrleader's voice drifts over his shoulder, R'hin not turning as he heads for the stairs. You wander down the stairs to the caverns below. |
