Involves: Fort Weyr
Type: Update
What: A blizzard hits Fort right after Elaruth and Mikhuth's hatching.
When: Day 14, Month 1, Turn 21 (Interval 10)
For the remainder of the evening of day 14, the blizzard /howled/ down onto Fort and pinned everyone down to wherever they got before the storm hit in full. The lower caverns were /packed/ full of of people: all those visitors, plus many riders who got stranded down below unable to return to their weyrs. Many of the dragons just plain opted to stay in the hatching cavern which has plenty of room for them to perch on ledges and lounge around in the heat. Some riders may have also opted to camp out in the galleries or near their lifemates, even if it's not particularly comfy sleeping on those risers. Anyone who opted to stay in the hatching cavern however, will have gotten cut off from the rest of the Weyr except for communication by dragon/firelizard as there are no tunnels connecting that part of the Weyr to the lower caverns. Every spare room and cot that the headwoman could rustle up was put to use during the storm, though the whiteout didn't really squelch the revelers in the living cavern and the feast did wind up put to good use. Also getting good use for the brave: guide ropes strung across the Bowl between the lower caverns and the weyrling barracks primarily. It's not too dangerous if one goes out with a dragon along with, on foot, though the winds and ice prevented even the biggest dragons from taking off an staying aloft at the peak of the storm. The next morning, the storm still raged and tempers were a bit more uncertain, especially amongst some of the visiting dignitaries eager to get home. This led to more uneasy exchanges between the Weyrleader and Holder Fort Sea when the two crossed paths, though Rivellan has taken to avoiding the 'unwashed masses' and also between Holder Gar and various persons eager to get 'the truth' about the counterfeit and the thieves found in his area. Night fell without relief from the wind, snow and ice, but the next day the silence outside could be considered defeaning and once dragons helped to both flame and dig out parts of the Bowl, the Weyrleader promptly organized portions of Flint, Obsidian and Jasper to ferry all of the visitors home in organized shifts.
