Lake Shore, High Reaches Weyr

The rest of the bowl may be barren, grass barely surviving at best, but here by the lake, it's brilliantly green in the warmer months: thickening and thriving in the silty, boulder-dotted soil just before it transitions to soft sand and thence to the cool, clear water itself.

A large freshwater lake fed by a low waterfall, it not only provides warm-weather bathing space for humans and dragons, but has one end fenced off as a watering hole for the livestock in the feeding grounds. The water there is often muddier than the rest of the clear lake, whose shallows drop off abruptly several yards out into deep water, and whose edge undulates against the coarse-hewn bowl wall: here close enough to just be bramble-covered rocks, there far enough away that a narrow land bridge divides the main lake from a smallish pond. Between are several rocky outcroppings that form excellent makeshift diving points, though only one -- across the bridge -- has a set of narrow, slippery, quite possibly tempting stairs.

Warm sunshine and cloudless skies make for a beautiful day and pleasantly warm evening. A breeze tempers the heat with no humidity lingering in the air.

It's a beautiful summer day. That means the lake shore is a favorite spot for many of the Weyr's denizens. Though there are dragons at play and people on the shore, it's not unpleasantly crowded. Rasavyth is deep in the waters of the lake, rubbing his nose at his shoulder, as though there were some dirt there that needed scrubbing. K'zin, though shirtless and wearing a pair of swim trunks, is settled on a blanket on the shore, a basket beside him. The blanket holds a plate of food and a bowl of wire cogs, springs, and other small smithly items. Grease on K'zin's hand and around his mouth indicates that he's been going back and forth between smithing and eating without much mind. Right now, dirty hands are wrapped around a large sandwich wedge.

She may not be a diver, but - a Turn after N'ky's helpful lessons - Alida is a solid swimmer. The bluie is out with Ilicaeth in the still rather cool waters of the lake, her pale hair her only obvious identifier as she swims around the placid, floating blue. After some longer moments, the bikini-clad woman swims over the the edge of Ilicaeth's outspread, trailing mainsail, and crawls onto the spread thing upon hands and knees. One green eye - inner lidded - focuses upon this new 'bug' making its way onto him, the dragon continuing to lazily watch his rider climb up his frame until she reaches his neck. After some moments and a solid leg and handhold pairing about said neck, the blue slowly lifts his upper body and moves to paddle in towards the shore, his long tail giving occasional flicks of water upon other weyrfolk he passes. Though Rasavyth's presence was acknowledged earlier, neither the blue nor his rider were given to engaging the bronze...or his rider.

« If you wish to speak with her... » Rasavyth's ooze trails boredly into K'zin's mind. There's simply the sensation of timing. (Rasavyth to K'zin)

As Alida and the blue make their way out of the water, K'zin's hurriedly setting down his sandwich into the container it had come out of, and he's sliding off the blanket to move toward the blue pair. He's obvious in his approach, but not shouting a greeting. The first (known) approach since Hraedhyth's flight; but he's giving her the chance to avoid him, if she likes.

There's no avoidance, but neither is there the usual closing with him to give Waki some shit, Ilicaeth merely chuffing at the bronzer as he nears the shore. As the blue climbs out, then carefully shovels himself a wallow from sands, the blonde atop him simply watches, remains quiet...and gives one glance to K'zin down there.

K'zin reaches up a hand as he comes to a stop an appropriate distance away to silently greet the bluerider above. Apparently, whatever it is he wants to say isn't meant for shouting.

It's not a big wallow, nor is it detailed, and so, after Ilicaeth's done with his cursory excavation, he dips a shoulder to allow Alida to slide down from his neck to the ground more easily, her hard body giving a little bounce at chest and rear as her feet hit the sand. As the blue smooths out his chosen spot with nose and cheek, his rider steps closer to K'zin, and then stops about five feet away. Waiting. Watching, sans expression.

"Hi," K'zin greets the bluerider, manner edged with awkwardness. His hands slip into his pockets. He looks at the blonde. "I owe you an apology, Alida." Beat. "I'm sorry. I should've had better control."

Then they're on the same page, since Alida feels awkward inside, as well...though she'd habitually used to not showing such leading emotions on the outside. K'zin's 'hi' gets no reaction, but with his apology comes a small bob of the guard's wet, pale head, her greens shifting around a little before coming back to rest upon the bronzer. After a few abortive attempts at words, the blonde finally lips off a low, "Both shoulda' been."

"I promise short of bad timing and gold flight coinciding again, it will never happen again. And even if bad timing and a gold flight coincide, I'll do my damnedest." But he can't promise with no doubt in that scenario. K'zin's brown gaze flicks away from the blonde to the sand and then back. "Are we still friends?"

Alida almost notes something to K'zin when he promises that, at first, but then he's addending himself, and she quiets herself and nods agreement. Nobody can absolutely promise anything, in the tumult of a Flight. "I will, too." She too looks away for a moment, then bringing her gaze back to his browns unflinchingly at his inquiry. "Yeah..." is murmured back soon enough, a little sigh given now that they're beyond the truly awkward part of this apology.

"Can I hug you without you thinking I'm going to grab you for things untoward?" K'zin queries, hands shifting out of his pockets but still resting on his hips. "Or would you rather beat me up first before we go back to any of that mushy stuff?" The grin he offers is tentative, but hopeful. Maybe they can just go back to how things were.

She looks conflicted for some moments when he asks that, Alida remaining still and thoughtful as she processes how she feels about everything that's transpired. A faint mental nudge from her stalwart and patient blue finally trigger the blonde into murmuring, "Yeah..." though she ignores the latter hald of the bronzer's statement, and makes the first move by stepping towards Waki first. She's in control, as a certain sailor is fond of saying. There's no flaring out of arms or smile from the woman, though.

K'zin steps to meet the bluerider, his arms opening and then closing about her shoulders. It's a firm hug, not a sensuous one. "Sorry for making you uncomfortable." He murmurs; his assumption of her feelings on things that transpired before the flight. "I'm really an ass during flights. To be avoided if it can be helped." Only after they step apart does he add, "If our boys are ever chasing the same tail, you'll probably want to pound me. Of course, that's not much different than normal." He notes, leaning back toward the blonde to nudge her.

She's stiff, but that's not terribly different from normal, perhaps. After a couple of seconds, Alida's own arms raise to deliver a slightly cautious hug of her own upon the taller 'rider's back. A couple of nods are given at K'zin's apology and statement before they disengage, a faint smirk and a grunt of agreement factored in by the guard. Quietly, "I dunno' how Ilicaeth is...yet." For once, she doesn't seem too terribly tense about that idea, though.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find out in time. I don't think I've ever heard about a dragon who never wanted to chase. I've heard ones that chase infrequently or once in a blue moon, but not never. And it's not anything any of the rest of us don't have to deal with too." At least they all have that in common, K'zin means. "And you can't be worse than me. So." He winks down at her. "So now that that's squared, we can get back to our usually scheduled training and sparring, right?"

"Yeah..." the woman mutters low, still not terribly pleased at the idea of being subjected to the whim of Flight lust when Ilicaeth finally decides that female dragons are more than simply buddies or sparring partners...or boring. Seems Alida's fond of that single-syllable word, right now. She can't be worse than him? With her temper? Shrug. That wink from K'zin quixotically seems to irritate the bluie a hint, for she's twisting her lips at her clutchmate, and turning back towards her now-resting blue, though the guard does note over her shoulder, "Yeah. Gonna have ta be evenin', these days." It's too busy and too warm right now for mornings.

K'zin's nose wrinkles, "Evenings aren't going to work for me. I'm in evening sweeps this week and next. I do get up early though, if you want to get it in before dawn." He offers the alternative. Then asking, "How're you settling with Glacier?"

A loud and irritated sigh soon finds Alida turning around after she's neared Ilicaeth, the woman then settling to her blue's folded foreleg for now as she replies, "Allright; pre- dawn fer two sevens. But then it's back ta evenings whenever schedules allow. Glacier seems ta prefer gettin' up a little later." Probably all the better to recover from their carousing the night before. A nod and small roll of shoulder are offered to word of her settling into her Wing. "They gimme' shit, but that's ta' be expected fer a new face. Taikrin 'n F'rint hand us more uv the bottom barrel crap, but again...we gotta' prove ourselves." She's not pleased with it, but it's just S.O.P. to the guard. "Otherwise, just fine." Indeed, she would fit in well with that Wing's makeup. Leaning against Ilicaeth's chest as he vegetates, the blonde grunts, "An' you 'n Taiga?"

"Alright, deal, for at least two sevens after that. Duties permitting." Because Taiga doesn't have the same reputation as Glacier and there are interesting things beyond exercising that can be done more readily in evenings. K'zin nods along to her words about her new wing. "Some of the same. I expect everyone has to prove themselves. And apparently I wasn't wanted in any other wing, so. I've got my work cut out for me. Just doing my best to settle in. Doing better than the last month or so of weyrlinghood, though, so. Progress, I guess."

A firm nod for Waki's agreement soon becomes another for greater expectations from the 'new kids in town...' and then suddenly shifts into a nose-wrinkle for the man's observation of being unwanted. "What the fuck's wrong with 'em?" Those other Wings. "Is that bullshit still about you..." Alida waves her hand. "Y'know, gettin' uptight about the ship we found..."

"My performance slipped at the wrong time. The time when the Wingleaders were watching. Add to that that I'm a bronzer from a class of trouble-making bronzers." K'zin's shoulders rise and fall as though he's come to terms with all this. "It's not like working hard is a foreign thing to us." He adds wryly. "Pretty much been the story since I Impressed, right? First remedial classes, then catching up on Silver Threads, landing in the infirmary with pneumonia because I worked too damn hard when I was wingsecond-- I think I'll try to avoid the infirmary this time. But working hard?" He shrugs. Nothing new. "I think K'del prefers that I have to work hard. Keeps me busy." He smirks a little, "But not too busy to do the things he doesn't want me doing." The look is a little impish, a little childish.

"Any Wingleader truly worth their fuckin' salt woulda' looked inta' the reasons behind such, since you were doin' so well beforehand, overall." A pugnacious little thrust of Alida's jaw speaks of how she views said wingleaders for being so short-sighted. As for bronzers... all she can do is eyeroll and shrug. "Notice how C'wlin 'n N'hax 'r keeping their heads low?" Smirk. Working hard is indeed the mantra of these two former weyrlings, and with word of how K'zin's 'handling' not only his word, but his wingsecond... Snerk. "Sounds like you two kiss 'n made up." And for such 'facts,' the bluie purses her lips and makes ample kissie noises upon the air, then snerting again. "Maybe K'del's tryin' ta keep you from going astray, like he did." Beat. "Good luck." Smirk.

"Oh, yes." K'zin says deadpan. "K'del and I do a lot of kissing." Then she gets a punch to the shoulder for all the kissy noises. It's not a hard thing though, just a 'knock it off' gesture. "We've sorted things enough to work together. I'm not even going to speculate on what K'del might be trying to do." Too much could go wrong. "I'll be interested to see how things change more - if they change more with Z'ian in charge. That he took C'wlin and N'hax into his wing probably doesn't endear him to High Reaches Hold, even if he's a favorite of Tillek's. Maybe that'll help with our tithe issues, at least."

A mellow 'oof' is all Alida gives Waki for his light punch. "If he wasn't such a..." Eh, forget that, Alida. Shrug. "When I see ya' smoochin' with someone like... saaaay... J'rus, then it'll be worth watchin'." Grin. J'rus, the incredibly smexy, incredibly slutty brownrider with the heart of gold and brain the size of a chick pea. As for their new Weyrleader, "Can't say that I'm unhappy with havin' a steady 'Leader pair, now. But I'm not gonna give Z'ian kudos until I see how 'e handles things, 'imself. Good luck to 'im, 'cause he inherited some big-ass crazy." Snerk. A pointed finger shows such when it marks K'zin's note of the Hold, a small and darkly pleased smirk touching the bluerider's lips for a moment. "Can't be too soon, in my book. Fuckin' sick uv' stew, porridge..." Eyeroll. A sudden cant of head shows something's been brought to mind again, and the bikini'ed blonde murmurs quietly, "Wonder how Jo's takin' this new turn uv' events."

"You keep teasing like that and I'm going to slap your ass because you'll deserve it." K'zin both warns and points out. "Either that, or we're going to delve into the topic of how things have been for you and your would-be lady-lovers." And she probably doesn't want either of those things. So it's just a threat; for now. The bronzerider's eyes are rolling and expression suddenly empathetic. "Tell me about it. I think my mouth's so bored, it welcomes just about any relief these days." Which he seems to realize too late could be interpreted in a very inappropriate manner. "With food!" He tries to stress, but is grinning anyway. Then a raise of a brow, "What about Jo?"

"Then I'll feel obliged ta' maybe have ta break your nose, too..." Alida notes around a slender smirk. That felt so fucking GOOD, breaking H'vier's proboscis. As for mention of her lady lovers, Alida wrinkles her nose, flips off K'zin...and lays off him. And then Waki's saying that, and - Faranth help her - Alida can't help but making a very suggestive 'gesture' with her tongue poking the side of one cheek out while she rounds her lips some...the bluie flinching back to try and avoid yet another incoming swat, just in case. A raise of brow for his lack of knowledge about Jo transitions into a neutral expression, then a lean towards the bronzer for a quiet, "Keep this ta' yerself, since it appears as if it ain't common knowledge." A look for him to swear to silence is likely soon followed by a murmured, "I believe Z'ian's one uv' 'er regular lovers." Shrug.

"Mine too? Whose else did you break?" Apparently, K'zin hasn't heard the story. But then, he was busy after the flight feeling like a terrible person and being rewarded for bad behavior. The fact that Alida makes the lewd gesture shocks the bronzerider into silence. "What the hell?" He asks and then leans closer. He's gotten injured for this question before, but this is the second thing she's done where she should've been up-tight but wasn't, beyond just being casually joking about the avians and the vtols. "Did you get laid?" He asks with a lowered voice. For the matter of Jo and Z'ian, "Might be it's common knowledge; I don't pay as much attention as I should to who and who's usually in one another's beds." But apparently, he's going to start paying attention: starting with Alida.

"Some total fuckwit uv a bronzer named H'vier. Guess 'e's a 'second now. Fuck all if I know why... Waste uv a dragon bond." Anger and leftover, dark pleasure flicker in Alida's eyes at the recollection. But then there's other things to note, and when K'zin gets freaky about her lewd gesture, and asks that of the blonde, the woman quickly and glibly notes, "Ya live in a barracks with a buncha' horny males fer Turns, ya pick up on their shit." She does know more crude stuff than most females, but eff it if she'll talk about her recently-evolving sex life to anyone. "Dunno. Just don't mention it, in case it is private." Glare.

"The guy who won Cailluneth's flight." K'zin identifies him, which is at least more specific than 'that guy I met in a bar once'. "I met him once. I'd not call him charming, but is he so bad? What'd he do to get you to bust his face?" K'zin, of all people, knows that sometimes it doesn't take much. The bronzer doesn't look convinced by her answer, "I'm not questioning that you knew of that kind of thing, just that you've never done anything like that and damn near took my balls off a couple of times when I tried to joke about things like that around you." He shifts, reaching for her shoulders to try to bring her face to face with him so he can give her face a hard look. Maybe he can get the answer in her face. "Even if I did mention it, I don't have to mention you were the one who told me, do I. Besides, I'd rather talk to Jo about when she's going to put me in her bed and not when she takes other bronzers there." The smirk he gives is suggestive, but there's something too humorous behind it. Could it be that Jo makes two women in the Weyr that K'zin actively doesn't have designs on? Well, maybe, but there's his whorish reputation to be protected. Or something.

"Yeah..." Alida notes back, then muttering, "After...Hraedhyth, 'e walked up ta me in the living cavern while I was eatin', grabbed my arm, 'n tried haulin' me off with 'em." And so, he got wailed on, says her scowl. When K'zin continues to question her, and then tries to reach for her shoulders, the bluie evades such with a bob of her upper torso that almost knocks her off of Ilicaeth's arm, the blue's muzzle quickly jamming against his own limb to stop her fall, just in case. The blonde rescues herself with a quick flail of legs and arms, though, then grousing to the bronzer, "Idiot... almost made me fall off..." Then, to word of Jo, there's a harder look for Waki, and a no-nonsense, "I don't confide in people just ta have 'em turn around 'n blabber shit ta people. Talkin' to Jo's fine." But nobody else, her emphasis more-than suggests.

"Sounds like that afternoon had you sandwiched by bronzeriding assholes." K'zin says with a frown. Then he's defending, "I wouldn't've almost made you fall off if you hadn't been trying to avoid me so hard. You did get laid." He accuses, eying her for reaction. "Alida, there's confiding in people and there's chatting. And there's gossip. I chat, and I confide in people, but I don't gossip. You're mistaking me for someone else if you think that's something you need to be concerned about."

"No kiddin'..." Alida mutters. But then there's nearly-falling off to be dealt with, and after they've exchanged ripostes, the blonde merely rolls her eyes and mutters, "Yeah; whatever you wanna believe." The look in her rolling eyes says it all: idiot. "What the shit're you so suddenly fixated on my private life?" He's rarely ever done more than mock her on occasion about such all this time, after all. She's irritated at him, but not truly angry. As for word about Jo, "Good. Let's keep it that way." Sagenod.

"Look, I was interested in your private life long before now. Because we're friends. If you'd recall, you've injured me over asking before." It's nothing new. "It's not my fault you never ask me about my love life." K'zin plays the victim with a woeful look. Then grins. "I can't tell." He finally announces the verdict of his considerations. If you did get laid, good for you. If not, well, keep on keepin' on. It's a good time." She might need someone to tell her that if she hasn't after all.

"Want me ta' ferget what I've learned since then 'n start doin' it again?" Alida notes a little testily back to Waki's first observation, giving him a small glare as she tucks herself back into Ilicaeth's body once again. With a harsh and blustery sigh, the bluie inquires tartly, "D'ya busybody like this inta all yer friends' lives? 'Cause if so, they oughta' beat on ya, too." Ass. Good for her that he can't tell...as she doesn't feel like telling anyone.

"Nah, yer special." K'zin mimics her way of speaking. But he's evidently going to lay off. "I'd better get back before Kazi eats all of my sandwich." If one did glance to where the bronzerider came from, sure enough, there's a pale blue making a mess of the sandwich half, currently dragging the meat from it and obviously trying to make off with the slab. The slab that's too heavy for it judging from the fluttering mis-starts. "I'm going to have to wrestle it back from him as is, and it's probably got dirt on it." Sigh. "I'll see you for training tomorrow morning?" He offers in parting to the bluerider before turning toward the blanket.

"Dipshit..." Alida grouses back to K'zin, flipping him the bird yet again, though there's a hint of a ghost smirk at one corner of her lips, by now. Hey wait! Where there's human food - especially chow not being minded AND being pulled away by a flit - there's Pyrite! The fixated little gold zips onto the scene, and with abandon alights down onto the sand, and tries to either 'help' Kazi fly off with it or make off with such herself. She's not hugely bigger than the blue, but still, larger mass does count. Green eyes turn to the brother and sister 'lizards, and quickly enough Alida's barking out, "Pyrite!" to try and stop the little hussy, then noting aside to Waki, "Yeah. Whoever gets ta it first sends the dragon call." And if Pyrite doesn't let the meat go, for whatever reason? She'll get a warning rumble from Ilicaeth.

Shenanigans don't last long. Pyrite provided enough distraction for Kazi, still on the blanket with the food, that K'zin's quick grab reclaims the meat - well, most of it, and he's tossing it down his own gullet - sandy bits and all before making a booga-wooga gesture to rid him of pesty company. Then he's finding the rest of his meal - the uninteresting to firelizards bits to finish that as well. And back to work.

And Alida? Finally gets heeded by the gold, who chitters in annoyance, and then gets ordered to hang around only them by Ilicaeth. While Alida soon moves to gather up some supplies she left nearby - and re-anoint herself with sunblock - Pyrite takes up pouncing the blue dragon's ever-restless tailtips. It's a damned rest day, so everybody's going to make the most of it.
