| It felt like an eternity before the healers were given enough room through the gathered onlookers to get the weyrleader up and off to where he could be treated, when in reality it had been minutes. Farideh initially didn't want to leave K'del's side. What if the perpetrator was still around? What if he slipped in and finished what he started? What if--? Truly, she felt guilty, that she hadn't seen it coming, nor could she place the man (or woman) in a line of men. Roszadyth's calm was steadying, a reminder of the stark reality of her new responsibilities. Irianke was likely wrapped up in someone at the Weyr for the rest of the day. K'del was bleeding out in a room somewhere at the Hold. And the dragons not swept up in Niahvth's torrent of flight lust were there, waiting on instructions or otherwise. They'd made promises, and she was sure, if he was conscious, that K'del would want her to stick to those, so she did. She straightened her dress, heedless of the blood -- her weyrleader's blood -- that stained her dress in places or the dirt from kneeling on the ground, and wiped the moisture from her eyes. Her tears could wait. Her suspicions would wait. For now, Greenfields was looking for answers. So, she answered the questions they had the best she could and played her part, when in truth she wanted to go home. She wanted to curl up in her own bed. To forget about the whole day, about the questions burning in the back of her mind. The initial excitement that brought onlookers to gawk and gossip over the crime scene faded as the day wore on. There was plenty for Farideh to do even then, even with Sisha's assistance; it seemed like she was talking in circles and she couldn't remember what she had said, or hadn't. And then Irianke showed up to replace her in the evening. She was relieved. She was wary. She was happy to go home. |

Oh, poor Farideh. D: It is amazing how training kicks in and how she sticks to it in spite of herself.

Like Irianke said... That's what Alida was (not gently) trying to pound into Farideh's head while she was teaching her self-defense: practice often and intensively enough, and your proper reaction will just happen on its own. ;)
