| While speculation of the likelihood of Convict candidates continues, the weyr seems to have run into more immediate concerns: Searchriders have been turned away from Balen Hold, in the High Reaches Hold region, as well as several of the smaller holds in its immediate surrounds. With a clutch of twenty - and a gold, after all - the weyr needs a fair few candidates; should more holds follow the examples set by these, this could prove problematic. Not as problematic as it would be during a Pass, it's true, with more clutches and more eggs to worry about; nonetheless, it is far from ideal. But in a more immediate sense, the weyr's outrage is certainly not surprising: Dragonriders have always had the right to Search. How dare they be turned away! Given the weyr's now-transferred Junior's origins at Balen, and the continued mystery surrounding her departure - save for a few stubborn rumours about Weyrleader ethics - it's all raised some more questions. What's up with Balen? And why is the weyr still providing them extra services, when they so clearly seem to have nothing but contempt for them? |
