| Meanwhile... In a hastily-fashioned wallow in the greenery, Ilicaeth continues to guard. The rain pours. K'zin and Rasavyth wait. Rasavyth, unbothered by rain. Good thing Waki's under a bronze wing. A half hour later, Alida stirs, emerges from under a blue wing. Pallet would've been nice. K'zin's rear, caked with mud as he rises. "'Lida?" Alida ass: also caked, though less, given her wing cover. A glance for him, but no words. "Probably the last thing you want, but... please?" K'zin steps to her, arms open. Twitch. Too close, too soon. Prickly Alida is prickly. Warning, Will Robinson! Not yet. K'zin stops, not far but not near, arms still open. "Alida, please?" Persistent. To Ilicaeth, Rasavyth's mind is fine sand, soft sand; gentle, oozy. « He feels she needs contact. » Still upset, though in control, inner disgust and ire lies obvious in greens. Twitch. Arms drop, K'zin hesitates, fidgets. Shoulders droop. "Sorry." Scour. « She *tried* already. » And see what it got her? (To Rasavyth from Ilicaeth) No words, now. None would fit, work. A quick, harsh jerk of chin invites Waki into the foliage. Ooze soothes that scrubbed raw. « He is her friend. Do not push him away. » (To Ilicaeth from Rasavyth) Invitation accepted. For once, K'zin is silent in his apology, following. For ONCE, that ooze is okay on raw nerves. « We'll try. » (To Rasavyth from Ilicaeth) Softly, quietly. « I am your friend, too. » (To Ilicaeth from Rasavyth) Blue wing and trees provide decent shelter. Just standing, now, Alida looks out silently on the storm. If it wasn't for that subtle 'off-ness' about him, acceptance of that would be easier. Still: « Thanks. » (To Rasavyth from Ilicaeth) K'zin waits, as before. This time standing, hands folded in front, fingers linked. Simply, « It is what is. » Acknowledging in words doesn't make it more true. (To Ilicaeth from Rasavyth) Takes time to accept even good company, after a bad event, especially when you're Alida. Tick-tock. Stranded in a storm, all they have is time. K'zin watches the rain. Ten minutes; tick-tock...drip-drop. Finally, finally... a hesitant lean against bronzer shoulder. Reactive, K'zin's hands part and one arm draws up to encircle her shoulders. The twitch remains, but she doesn't whack him, merely stiffening some in acceptance. "Don't have to touch you," His arm begins to drop away. K'zin, uncertain. "No." Quick, smudged, certain, it combines hesitance and need. She stays there. K'zin's arm resets, fingers gently squeezing. "Want to talk?" Just as certain, Alida clips off: "No." At least, not yet. Silence and company are good. After a time, K'zin's hand rubs idly on her arm, as he watches the rain. Her own hand stops that rubbing. Aggravating. Just contact along that arm, at their shoulders. Wince, an apologetic look. K'zin's hand stills. Silence, rain. Company. Silent thanks: Alida gives his hand a quick squeeze, her own dropping back to her side. It continues, unpressured. K'zin will stand, silent, as long as she wants. Blue wings shifts some after another 10 minutes, Ilicaeth needing to stretch. Finally: "How bad is she?" "You surprised her. I didn't tell her you might... be interested." K'zin sighs. "Yeah. Stupid me." Grumble, wince. "Fucked up misunderstandin'." Alida sighs, too. "People don't like getting surprised," K'zin admits, dubious. "It might be ok." "Tell me about it." Alida, most of ALL. Sigh. "Irritated, needed ta *do* somethin'." "Irritated? Maybe warn her next time?" K'zin looks helpless. "She knew." Certainly. There's left-over ire in Alida's observance. "That you were irritated? Or that you wanted to kiss her?" Not both, surely. "Irritated." Eyeroll. Duh. Ilicaeth retracts his wing fully, cautiously moves a little. "If you were irritated and came at me, I'd think punch not kiss." K'zin admits. "Yeah. *Yer* not *her*," Alida ripostes. Tela and her don't have that kind of history. K'zin, serious, looking at Alida, "And if you were her?" "Yeah..." is clipped off with leftover irritation and guilty understanding. A breath. "How well do you know her?" K'zin's voice is quiet. "Not like you 'n N'ky," is Alida's low response. "A little more'n I know Deke." Then, "How well do you know me? So far." K'zin is abruptly tense. She can feel that tensing, and slowly lida withdraws from Waki's arm, shoulder. Peer. He resists the withdraw, instead, the opposite, squeezing her closer. "Wait." She tenses in reply to his own physical insistence, but it's a hallmark of trust that Alida stills, remain. "I mean," K'zin, carefully, "Would you know if I'd been abused? Before you met me." "I knew somethin' was...off." About him. The full realization strikes Alida, makes her subtly wince. It all makes sense, now. Wait. "Before I metcha'? No." "Didn't say I had been," K'zin says hurriedly, expression dark. "Point is, she might have things in her past." "Oh." Still, Alida can't deny what she knows about Waki...and Madilla. "Yeah." "So..." K'zin's fingers squeeze gently. "Next time... warn her. No assumptions." "Yeah," the guard replies gruffly, remaining leaning against Waki's shoulder. Will there *be* a next time? K'zin turns, simultaneously pulling Alida gently with his arm into a hug. Enough decompression and exposure to him has occured to make it easier for Alida. The hug is returned. It's brief, but firm. K'zin releases her, hands on her shoulders. "Just... don't give up, okay?" She sucks it up like water in a desert. There's no answer from the wary woman, but she starts back to the cave. He doesn't follow, but watches her go before rejoining his lifemate, sheltered by bronze wing from the torrents of rain. |

Assumptions rarely go well. It's things like this that have me appreciating the differences in weyrling personalities. :3
