| It was quietly and simply that she confessed the situation to K'del. His support and offer of assistance was predictable but she was no less grateful. She didn't really have anyone else to turn to, which made his words doubly important. She told him her plan. He promised she would always have a place at the Weyr. She knew he couldn't promise that forever; after all, he'd lost the Weyrleadership before... But it was kind of him to say and good to hear when so much change was upon her. She supposed that this wasn't exactly what Healer Miska had had in mind when he recommended modified bed rest, but in order to achieve that end... this is what had to happen, at least so far as Tayte was concerned. She asked him to hold her hand when the baby came, and to intercede with the Headwoman on her behalf that she and the girls might not be uprooted from their room in the Craft Complex when all was said and done. There would be enough other changes that she didn't think she could manage another. She didn't cry. Not until she arrived back at her room and closed and locked the door. It wasn't the baby she cried about, nor the necessity of all the other changes; she cried simply because endings of this sort were sorrowful. She let herself have some moments and then she gathered herself to speak to Weyrvintner Saelin and Anvori. |
