| In the morning, weyrlings roused for exercises and feedings. Paige managed the feeding and oiling well enough, but curled up on her cot soon afterward, coughing. « You are not well, » Tiasheth fretted, eyes flickering yellow. « I will go to the lesson for you today. I must tell Jekzith's if you feel worse. » Between coughs and sips of the tea provided by one of the healers, Paige sighed aloud, pale eyes settled on the little green whose rapid growth already rendered her larger than her lifemate. I'll be alright, she said softly. S'not - not like they were when I was lil. Situating herself in her stone wallow, the dragon stretched her head and forelimbs as near to the girl as she could. « You were sick often as a small child. But you grew out of it, » she pointed out reasonably. « You remember so, yourself. Yet you won't tell anyone when you feel unwell. » The weyrling huddled deeper into her pillow, reaching out a hand to rub at the green's chin. No, she admitted quietly, even in their minds. Maybe I'm jus' afraid tha' it'll be a big deal again. I dun wanna be a trouble t'anyone. They dun need more worries. Tiasheth gave a gusty sigh, scattering leaves everywhere within them and warming their connection with more sunlight. « Dearest Paige, you aren't a trouble to anyone, least of all to me. People will worry about you, especially if you don't tell them and let yourself get very sick. Besides, if people worry about you, it shows that they care about you, doesn't it? » Guess so, Paige murmured, coughing again and rolling over a little. Thank ya, Tia. I dun - I dun know how I got along without ya bein' here. « You'll never need to know again, » came Tiasheth's whispery promise, eyes spinning a slow blue. « I am here. Vrusith's has kindly agreed to bring you something to eat from the caverns on the way to the lesson. Rest, my dear. I will manage well enough in the lesson for us both before joining you. » Comforted, Paige slept. |
