Lights! Music! Food! And really big crowds. Paige, who has likely been at the feast for about a half-hour, whirls off of the dance floor with a brilliant smile for the brownrider who's just finished leading her through a number; the tall man, who wears the colors of High Reaches, says something to her and heads for the refreshments, leaving the newly made weyrling to wander off to the side to catch her breath, flush brilliant.

Being one of the assistant weyrlingmasters during this busy and challenging time certainly hasn't left K'len much time for getting ready for the feast. Most people know that he doesn't usually attend these sort of parties, so some might have already commented that it's just his nature to miss social functions. But, none the less, he walks through the door looking quite uncomfortable in the clothes he's chosen - or was forced to choose by some unknown hand.

Paige glances over toward the doorway yet again as the harpers finish another number, depending on the ebb and flow of the crowd to afford her a decent view of who's entering and leaving. And - there! It's with wide eyes that she begins ducking around people here and there to make it over to K'len, surprised expression turning into a shy beam once she's near enough. "Ya made it!" is the first thing that apparently comes to mind, followed by a delighted, "M'family came, too! Left already, but m'brother's still here from 'Reaches." Excited babble aside, she can't help adding a quieter, "Y'look - real, real nice."

Suddenly feeling uncomfortable, there's a moment where K'len's gaze darts towards the exit. But, Kalorith's encouragement keeps him from just darting out the way he came in. Taking a deep breath, he walks further into the crowd before he's greeted by Paige. A previously uncomfortable expression breaks towards something more pleasant as he greets the newly minted greenrider. "Oh, there you are." He says, giving her a quick look over before grinning a little more broadly. "That's good. I'm glad they came to see you. How're you feeling about it all, is it what you expected?" He asks, and while he waits for her response he reaches to touch the clip she's put in her hair. "You look lovely, as always." He adds in a slightly quieter tenor.

"Confused, " is the first word that Paige settles on, still caught up in the daze of one who's newly been bonded, "but I dun gotta worry 'bout it so much anymore. Tiasheth's here and I'm with her and s'all tha' matters." Her color is much improved from when she was out on the sands; she doesn't look green in the face anymore, at least. The compliment garners a blush, a bashful dip of her chin. "Thank ya, " she manages after a few moments, smiling up at him. "I still can' - can' believe it, y'know?"

"It'll get better with time, both believing it and getting used to it. She seems sweet enough, or so Kalorith thinks." K'len offers his own dragon's opinion of the newly hatched even if it's not truly based on much at all. Sure, the bronze was curious enough to try and meet as many of the new dragons as he could, but there was only so much time for introductions. He quirks a smile at her blush, and ends up tucking his hands in his pockets. "So, did you wear your heaviest boots to dance with me?" He asks, glancing down at her slippers and shaking his head. "No, no. Those won't do."

Paige beams again, delighted. "She's real smart, too. Figured out how t'feed herself so's I could oil her at the same time. 'Twas great." Glancing down at her choice of footwear just as he does, she peeks back up at him, suddenly uncertain. "Heavies' boots? Why'd I need those? They dun go with the dress and - ain't these good 'nough?"

"Kalorith refused to feed himself, I wasn't so lucky." K'len reminisces, though he doesn't linger too long on that. Looking up from her feet to meet her gaze, he lifts his shoulders. "They're your feet. I just.. I'm not lying when I say I don't dance well, you know. A lot of people are modest about it, but I'm not being modest." He says, and then sighs with resignment. "I don't attend this sort of thing much. Even the turn's end ball at High Reaches, I just watched from the sides."

"Oh, " Paige says simply, brows knitting together momentarily. "Well, ah -- if'n y'jus' wanna sit and have somethin' t'eat and drink, 'twould be good, too. But if'n ya want, we can jus' try a real simple step or two? Even movin' from side ter side and back and forth a bit - counts as dancin'." And the harpers conveniently strike up a moderately paced song that's easy enough to do a two-step to.

"I, ah.." K'len starts, appearing rather uncertain as he looks between the harpers and Paige, and then towards the food and drink. Such a difficult decision. However, it's with a vague mutter that he appears to make up his mind. Reaching for her hand with one of his own, and her waist with the other - that's as far as he gets on his own before he apologizes, "I'm sorry I won't be the best dancer you've been with tonight. You deserve better."

Paige's smile widens happily as he takes her hand, and she gently tugs him a bit farther into the whirlwind of dancers before placing her free hand at his back. "But - yer /ya/, " she responds earnestly, flushing. Nodding along with the beat, she makes a miniscule swaying motion back and forth, perhaps to both demonstrate how inelaborate the dance needs to be, and where the beat is.

K'len usually carries himself with an air of confidence, but that's all but blown away at this point. He follows, though it's reluctantly as she leads him towards the thick of the mess as he'd call it. Truly, he wasn't lying, even the movement to get them in the right spot he nearly steps on her feet a time or two. But, provided the steps are easy enough, he falls into step easily enough. "You're sweet." He reiterates his previous intonation, and then adds, "I like you a lot."

And Paige's flush deepens, even as she relaxes into their swaying movements. If she's aware of the near misses by their feet, she doesn't comment on them, far too enraptured with the fact that they're actually dancing. "I - like ya lots, too, " she murmurs in reply, smile curving upward. "See, yer not tha' bad, " she adds a moment later. "Doin' wonderful."

Certainly trying to avoid missing her much smaller feet with his bigger ones, K'len, at first, is almost always looking directly down at the feet to make sure he's not going to step on them incidentally. He blushes a little himself, but with his head being down it's hard to pick up on. "A child could dance this well, you don't have to try and flatter me." He says airily, and lifts his eyes to look at hers which are pretty close to the same hue then adds. "You'll have to tell me all about Tiasheth when you know more about her."

"I'll be sure to, " Paige assures him readily, though whether that's in reference to flattering him, telling him about Tia, or both edges toward ambiguous. "'Tis so excitin', " she says after a bit. "Feels like I'm gonna wake up every mornin' and discover somethin' /new/. Everythin's new t'her. I can feel tha', too."

K'len comes very close to clipping her foot a time or two, and might even actually step on a small toe once. Not for lack of trying to avoid them, however. "Mmm.." He says in response to the first, trying to discern it's meaning before on to the next part. "At first it is very much like that, yeah... Kalorith still finds 'new' things often, even though he's nearly ten turns old."

Paige doesn't quite grimace if her toe gets stepped on here or there, but she does carefully make to nudge at his foot with hers if it appears to start doing that again. "Yeah? Guess thin's dun get old fer 'em so fast, 'specially with the shorter memories?" Muse. As the melody becomes more complex despite having a simple beat, some of the couples around them turn to more intricate maneuvers, but the girl seems perfectly happy with their simpler form. "I'm glad ya came, " she says then, sincere, expression bright. "Y'should give it a try more often. And - y'look good when ya smile more." That last bit ends up in a rushed sort of murmur.

"Naw, things don't get old for them but sometimes you might get frustrated with answering what seems to be repetitive questions." K'len admits, taking greater care in keeping from stepping on her toes. He doesn't even attempt to do anything more intricate in the dancing, knowing that he's not cut out for much more than what he's doing. "I.. ah.. Yeah, I'm not much of a social butterfly." He admits, without saying outright that he's closer to a hermited recluse than anything resembling a social butterfly. He gives a smile at her last words, and nods a couple times. "I'll try to smile more for you... I just didn't have much to smile about before."

Paige reddens further, but is spared from making an immediate reply as the song draws to a close. "I dun think I'll get tired of Tia's questions when she starts askin' them, " she speculates once the music ends, sending people scattering to various locations around the cavern. "She seems real smart, picks up on thin's real fast, too." Yep, there's a proud beam for that. "I was - I was kinda 'fraid of gettin' a dragon like Aath, " she admits, more quietly. "I mean, she seems nice'n all; I got nothin' 'gainst her. But - " And she looks up at him pleadingly. You know.

K'len stops moving as soon as the music finishes, a reprieve given and one that he'll graciously accept. Not that he doesn't enjoy being with Paige, but dancing - he's not at all comfortable with that. He keeps his hand clasped with hers though, even if the other falls from her side. "That's good, I hope she keeps up like that. It'll make things easy for you." He says with a warm smile, and then flushes a little when Aath is mentioned. "Aath, well.. I don't know much about her other than she seems content to flirt with any male dragon she meets much like her rider. Maybe your Tia will be a little more like you? Kalorith may as well be a copy of me in dragon form."

"Maybe, " Paige agrees. "Hopefully. I think she will be." There's a curious glance tipped toward the bronzerider as she nudges them off of the dance floor to make way for the new groupings of couples surging up to pair off for the next number. "Kalorith? Really? But he's - he seems t'like t'charm the greens lots, " she notes, pale eyes studying him for a moment. "Ya seem - less flirtatious than he does, I guess? More serious'n he is, at least."

K'len keeps her hand in his as long as she'll let him, and follows her off of the dance floor without much enticement needed at all. However, he seems quite intent on getting over to the drinks so he can at the very least get himself something from there. "Not as much as it might seem, there's just something about Aath he's decided that he likes. You'll see that he's serious too, he tends to get more so when we're helping with weyrlings." He admits, and then looks at her for a long moment before reaching for a glass. "Flirtations might fill your bed, but I want something that'll last longer."

Paige doesn't mind heading over to the drinks, gladly going for a glass of water. The cups of ale laid out are spared a brief glance, a considering look. They're allowed one, but her attention's pulled away from it as K'len elaborates about Kalorith's behavior. "Oh. 'Spect we'll see lots more o'tha' in the comin' months, " she nods, cheeks burning by the time he acquires that glass. No verbal response gives she, but her hand impulsively gives his a small squeeze. But then her eyes do that flicker-in-and-out-of-focus thing, effectively cutting into the moment. "I - er. I think she's startin' t'stir a lil. I should - prolly go and check on her or somethin'." And put a lid back on her emotions and consider curling up with the dozing dragonet, too, most likely.

K'len reaches for the ale straight up, not even looking for the glasses of water that're over there. He squeezes her hand in return, then relinquishes it so he can hold the cup a little better. "You should probably go, yes... I'll see you soon, though." He says with a quick smile, since they're going to be seeing plenty of eachother throughout weyrlinghood. He seems content to let her go off on her own, and remain behind with his ale at least until it's finished so he can scoot off away from the crowd he doesn't particularly enjoy being around.
