It's a couple of days since Keysi Impressed her blustery blue firelizard, and a couple of days since Alida politely asked Edyis to depart from the same weyr the hatching took place in. Hurt feelings, bad temper, and such. Now, the whole clutch of eggs has found owners, and the blonde is found snugged deep into the back of the Snowasis tonight, the chill of the late autumn's air outside kept at bay by the irish whiskies she's consuming within. Draped over the back of her neck - sleeping soundly - is one lazy golden firelizard, Pyrite's tail and head the only bits truly noticable beyond 'lida's thick braid.

The top few buttons of her flight jacket undone, Edyis looks ready to kick back after a day of drilling, dark curls tumbling loosely about her face. A tiny green tendril curls at her collar barely visible. The Snowdrift greenrider next to her mutters something, and Edyis nods, parting ways and making her way in the general direction of the bar, looking tired, but otherwise not completely unsocial.

Unlike Edyis, Alida looks quite UNsociable, which isn't terribly different from usual. The louder calls from a few of the various Weyrfolk circulating around the Snowasis draw a hard stare from flat green eyes and a small frown, but the blonde doesn't otherwise react, except to down the next fingerful of her drink faster than she'd intended. At some point in time - probably sooner, given her remote expression - this bit of socializing will be more than she can handle, and the bluerider will up and leave. But... she's *still* 'her,' no matter the situation or mood, and so that flat gaze lifts and dutifully tracks around the large room to keep tabs on things...and finds Edyis stepping towards the bar. For an instant, there's an expression touched with small surprise, guilt, and irritation leaping upon the bluie's face...and then she's looking back down at the drink in her hand in silence.

Unfortunately for Alida, that the tiny green tendril is actually a tail, and there is suddenly a loud chirp emanating from somewhere in Edyis's chest region. Flicker scrabbles out, taking to the air, chirping and chattering away as she makes a beeline toward the pudgy gold. Trying to land wherever there might be room. She's still tiny after all. Dark eyes lift and follow the green's path, spotting the dour bluerider with a twist of wry expression. Her mug of cider dragged along as she whistles a clear note (high C for the musically inclined), at the creature.

Great; Alida's now a mass-firelizard perch. Sort-of. It's only slowly that Pyrite opens her green eyes and chirples back to her daughter as Flicker comes in for a landing upon the blonde's shoulder, the now only somewhat-pudgy queen first giving a huge yawn that shows all her little teeth. As mother tries to trade nose-rubbings with daughter, Alida can only sigh deeply, and purposefully move her eyes up and out towards whistling Edyis. She's not the only creature that's had its attention moved by said whistle: a few other bar-goers are peering at Ed, and Pyrite is, as well.

Nose rubbings are awesome, and Flicker soaks up her dam's affection eagerly, at least until that note is whistled. The response isn't immediate, but she eventually takes off again, settling back (albeit sulkily) on the brown rider's shoulder, who gives the other onlookers a shrug of apology. Alida's table is joined then whether the bluerider wishes it or not. "Still working on that one." She notes with a flush of color touching her ears. Still the little beast is rewarded with something Tasty fetched from a pouch. She did listen after all.

Alida's given a very brief respite in the time it takes the baby green to recognize and return to her pet human's shoulder, the bluerider able to find something of approval for the teaching feat, even as she squirms a little inside...nothing noticable on her face, of course. With the coming of Edyis also comes a mumble of, "Get 'em while they're young." A sip of her drink presages a laconic, "Jo's signals." Pyrite settles down in her loose-limbed flop at the back of her own human's neck, once more, but those now-blue eyes remain open as the gold offers soft little chirples and croons to Flicker. "What's 'er name?"

"Working on it at least, figure most of it is just going to be repetition with her." There's an easy smile, and if she shares the bluerider's sense of discomfort it doesn't show in any aspect of her expression. Edyis smiles, "Flicker, that little bit of shimmer, she has in her claws and joints, she sort of just catches your eye for a second before, she's just gone. So... Flicker." Nevermind that Akluseth has been working on getting her to respond to Hussy in secret. Look ma, food! The little green holds the sweet smoked piece of jerky between her claws like a trophy.

"Slow an' steady..." might sound like an oxymoron coming from someone like Alida, but the bluie apparently means it, her eyes flicking from Edyis to Flicker to take note of the tiny green's brighter points in detail. "Mm...good one," is noted quietly of the name, the blonde then slowly letting her gaze fall back to her drink as she hefts it up again while Pyrite churrs warmly to her progeny. Food is *good*! But it's even more wonderful when you "eat" it.

Edyis grins, "One thing at a time, but I'm planing on asking Jo for a little help too." Flicker starts gnawing away contentedly, all but purring. "So, tell me what you all have been up to?" Ilicaeth included obviously despite the blue's location being not in the bar.

"Good..." is murmured with restrained approval, Alida then tossing back what's left of her second drink without a wince or cough. Smooth stuff. While momma-gold's content to remain relaxed and watch her daughter eat, Pyrite's human, instead, is ill-content to continue on in this mode of conversation, the blonde appearing a bit peeved as green eyes jerk up to meet firmly with dark-browns. After a moment, Alida mouths off very quietly, privately, "I..." No. Stop that damned pride for once, and that damned temper. Her self-restraint is almost physical, the woman's lips thinning and her expression flattening out - eyes closing for a long moment - so she can curb her impulse to says the first thing on her mind. One hand remains clenched about her glass...and slowly relaxes, Pyrite giving a sudden rub of nose against Alida's near-jaw. Once she's 'back up' for more talk, again, the now-open-eyed, slightly-pinched-featured woman notes slow and steadily, but with verbal firmness, "I've been wonderin' if I lost another friend." Admissions of many kinds are in that statement, though her emotion is controlled.

The more she goes on to say, the more Edyis continues to stare. The tilt of her head such that even Flicker has to duck a bit. "Why the fuck would you even think that? I mean did you get in a fight with Jo or something?" Utterly flabbergasted.

Edyis' shock and perplexment at first irritate Alida into self-defensiveness, the blonde thinking that Ed's putting her on for some reason. And then - with the help of a certain blue dragon lounging on his ledge - she stops that inner tide of anger that threatens to grow into a storm... seen in the second application of will upon her features, a closing of eyes for a moment. Again under control, the bluie notes low, intensely to her companion, "Not *here*." Looking about as dead serious as she can be without frowning, the Glacier rider jerks her chin as she stands up, hoping Edyis will follow her wordless gesture, 'lida then moving firmly, though not quickly out towards the Bowl outside.

"Okay." The word drawn out as the brownrider pulls to her feet, tilting her head still downing her cider on the way out.

It takes a couple of minutes or so, but they're lofted up to Ilicaeth and Alida's ledge by the blue dragon, unless Akluseth insists on transporting his own rider, 'caeth letting the humans dismount before he gives Alida a croon and attempts to gently nose the brownrider in the chest. While the blue moves to curl up in his wallow, Alida notes flatly as they stride further inside, "You were...pissed off before." Beat. "About my comment. About Yesia."

He's cautious, but hopeful, and the blue's baritone puffs both dust and glinting flecks of mica under Akluseth's door. « Is Edyis...was she angry about what 'lida said? » Her too-brisk joke about Yesia, he means. (To Akluseth from Ilicaeth)

t would seem Alkluseth trusts Ilicaeth not to whisk his rider off between or anything else nefarious, even if he prefers being the mode of transport. Ilicaeth probably has Largath to thank for this though, regardless. "I was irritated, but everybody's gotten their dig in. I suspect Faryn even calls Flicker 'Yesia jr.' behind my back when she thinks I'm not listening." There's something of a crooked smile for this. "Isn't anything I'd hold against anyone for long, I mean, we are riders, were bound to fuck a few people we'd prefer not to."

To Ilicaeth, Akluseth projects « If she got pissed at every dig, Jo'd have black eyes way more frequently. »

Ilicaeth puffs his relief out in a mental breath that's made almost entirely of those glinting flecks of mica, his raspy voice kept out of the works. Akluseth can feel his relief and thanks...on both his and Alida's behalf. Whew. Inside, the more temperamental of the blue pair finds herself staring at Edyis for a few moments, then slowly nodding her pale head in silence as she steps into her weyr, heads slowly for the tiny kettle still simmering above a low-stoked hearth. The massive tension that kept her silent during their flight up is seen to melt from between Alida's shoulders as she begins automatically brewing tea. "Yeah..." Murmur-grunt. "Just...lemme' know if ya have tender subjects." Because Alida, unlike Jo, won't purposely prod them with smart-ass anecdotes. Probably.

"Even if you do, it isn't like I'd hold it against you." Edyis notes with a furrow of her brow. "People make mistakes; doesn't do anybody much good to hold on to them forever." There's a deep exhale, and the brownrider settles into one of the most comfortable seats. "Besides, you qualify as family, so you get way more leeway than most." Not to mention points for being socially challenged.

There's something perhaps akin to a little wonder in Alida's eyes for a moment, but count on it to be quickly snuffed out by darker thoughts, the blonde looking over her shoulder at Edyis, and then back to her kettle. Murmured quietly, "Some mistakes can't be fergiven." Beat. "Some people never ferget...'r fergive." The couch is the comfiest place - aside from the bed - in the weyr, and finally Pyrite crawls out from under her human's hair, and glides over to settle upon the back of that couch, trilling for her daughter to join her. Comfy...but no claws or teeth! Word of her being 'family' has those hidden muscles across Alida's shoulders tensing up some again, though they soon relax on their own. "Yeah...thanks, Ed." Grunt. "Tea?" After some moments for quiet reflection, the bluie murmurs over her shoulder once again, "'Family's' apparently a dangerous thing ta be, in regards ta me." No father, no mother, no siblings.

"Can't say I forget much, but I am working on forgiveness." She notes, and Flicker, who seems hesitant to leave the warmth of Edyis' flight jacket, is happy to curl up with Pyrite. Trilling softly, that reaction doesn't go unnoticed, but perhaps the former scribe understands that the upbringings of the two women are very different. "Can't say I know much about your definition of the word, but for me, there's a group of people I'd do damn near anything for." There's a soft smile. "Only a few left related by blood, but." That doesn't seem to be the important part. "Tea would be lovely."

Yeah..." Alida notes with a hint of wryness, the ex-guard remembering Edyis' photographic memory. "That'd be damned helpful ta a guard..." is further commented of *not* forgetting, though forgiving earns only a small roll of one shoulder. So far, the blonde's extremely lousy at forgetting misdeeds. As she pours very warm water into nearby mugs, adds little cheesecloth baggies of peppermint tea to them, the bluerider cants her head to take in the 'discussion salon' taking place between firelizards, a faint bit of a smirk-smile touching one corner of her mouth as mom and kid curl up together on the back of her sofa. For 'family,' she allows only, "Guess it's...loyalty, ta me." Of course. "Trust. Kinship." Somehow, she still can't bring herself to admit to 'affection.'

"Mm, there are things I wish I didn't remember to be honest." She murmurs quietly, "Makes for hellish nightmares sometimes." But it's easy to fall into warmer discussions, and perhaps Alida doesn't need to bring herself to say it, since the smile suggests Ed feels it just the same. She watches the firelizards, with a smile. "Speaking of trust," She trails carefully, "I think I found someone to pick up the extra runs on my end, but I wanted to get your thoughts before I asked them."

Ahh. Yeah. As she picks up the steeping mugs of water, smootly pivots about, Alida's expression, her grave nod to Edyis speak of total comprehension. "How *is* that little 'difficulty,' these days?" is steadily inquired to Edyis of her most personal horror, the ceramic mug soon handed off to the brownie before the blonde settles her rear to couch, mug to floor, then sheds her own jacket over the side of the arm. Mug soon in hand once again, those expressive green eyes find one of their brows lifting just a little at word of a possible 'other' being in on the rum trade. After a moment for thought, "You know how I feel about outsiders." Point-blank. Try and convince her otherwise.

"Better; healers say I need to keep up with the exposure therapy, and T'mic helps with extra flaming practice. We are actually able to do live drills now, though." Accepting the mug between both hands, "I do, this one is quiet though, keeps to themselves. Knows how to handle himself around people, heard he's decent at handling trouble." Cue careful peek over at the bluerider. "I figure you can give him a good old fashioned guard once over, get a feel for the guy, see if he meets your standards?"

There's focus and soon enough a few small nods from Alida as Edyis talks of her pyrophobia, the mug left cradled upon her lap, in the meantime. Good. Quietly ventured, "Some things take immersion, shock. Other times, slow an' steady; small steps." Beat. "Used ta think *all* the proper ways ta get over stuff was *only* divin' in." A faint smirk and roll of eyes shows the bluerider's discovered otherwise, over time. Tea lifted to lips to blow upon the water, the blonde then resuming her more poker face at word of this potential person entering their side-business, keen ears and eyes observing Edyis as she speaks. Another pause for thought is followed by a mix of darkly humored and slightly irritated, "This venture's mostly back in yer hands, anyway." Puff, sip. "How'd ya meet this guy?" Hmmm?

"Mm." Edyis answers a touch wry, for Alida's method of getting over things. Sipping her tea, there's a stiffer nod for things being mostly back in her hands, but she's careful to add, "Wouldn't have grown as much as it has without your help Alida. Don't want to do anything to upset that." Edyis seems very firm on this point. It's the question that has her a little sheepish, "You could say he just showed up on my ledge one day." There is a little creep of a smile that just can't help but work it's way in. "He's also a fantastic lay." It's so hopeful that last, that Alida won't shoot her down when she says, "N'rek."

And Alida can see, feel the way Edyis is trying to handle things in regards to her business partner - the bluerider having only to remember her own exhaustion at trying to keep the rum free flowing - before she grunts and just lets most of the issue go. Most. "All I c'n ask is tha'cha keep it profitable...fer as long as ya' c'n handle it." Which is why Ed's asking for more help, apparently. Blink. Oh *really*? is the expression on the elder woman's features, her curiosity rising high just before Ed makes that admission. Snert, smirk. "Okay...I really *do* wanna meet this guy, now. Wanna see who's got my bud all enchanted...*and* willin' ta back 'im on this venture."

It's a relief, really, that Alida doesn't shoot the whole thing down instantly. Edyis is rather grateful given how tired she looks. "Profitable is the idea, yes. Profitable and easier to manage." There's a slow spreading smile, in part because thus far at least there may be hope of freedom yet. "I think that can certainly be arranged. I figured you'd want to vet him out before I handed him Terren's co-ordinates." She's relieved and tired apparently, from the yawn. "Shells, this catch up thing is starting to get to me. I'm going to rack out for the night, but we will discuss this more at length?" emptying the mug and sitting it in an appropriate spot as a sleepy Flicker just eyes her. "Night Alida, and next time, let me know you got a burr under your saddle. You shouldn't stress about that sorta stuff too much around me, ok?"

"Profit's not nearly as important as havin' a good time..." Alida lets Edyis know casually. "You ever get totally burned out, lemme know. Maybe we c'n figure somethin' else out." Or not. Shrug, sip. Maybe the blonde's 'letting' the brownrider 'get away' with this change of plans this easily because she's so relieved over their friendship not being over. "Maybe we c'n all meet up near Turnover, if it ain't before then." Shrug. More reason for a small party...or - given Alida's history - a rumble? "Yer welcome." For the tea...and the talking. As for the saddle burr, there's a hint of a chagrined little nod - plus a purposely distracting rubbing of both Flicker and Pyrite's bellies - before the brownie and her baby green head off for the night. "G'night, Ed." And, perhaps for the first time, that will be a more 'formal' farewell from the bluerider, given the reason behind why they met up tonight.
