He'd have to transfer wings. It was the only thing for it. Nevermind that all six of his wingriding turns had been spent in Icicle. As he left the guest weyr, he knew, knew, he could not face Gallania in the morning. What would she say? More importantly, what would she do?! She was Hold born and bred, too, though she'd come to the Weyr at a young age, he knew from their six turns of happy wingmating. That she'd found her sweetheart and happily had been with him since and had eleven children, he knew also.

That made him convulsively swallow. What if he'd knocked the poor girl up? She had to be at least a decade his junior. And sure, flights happened, he knew from experience, and flight babies too (not from experience), but should he try to be a father to any child that might come of things? Should he not take her to dinner? He was Blooded and Blooded did sometimes have unlikely pairings when it came to age, but he'd never wanted to be that kind of Blooded. It was a little creepy. And he hardly knew anything about her, he told himself as he headed for the bathing pools.

« It's not wrong to have feelings. » Ekoth said with certainty. She must still be with Knioth then because he could still sense the propriety and rose petals in her mindtouch. He could feel her adoration for her current beau. It wouldn't do to tell Ghena that that's how Ekoth always felt about her suitors. And worse would probably be when Knioth realized that Ekoth didn't remember him in the slightest after they parted company.

« It is if they're about a young girl. » U'by sighed.

« Woman. » Ekoth countered. « If she's old enough to possibly become with child, she's a woman. » At least, that's how her current reckoning counted it. U'by wanted to believe her, but at the same time wished for the blank slate all over again. Then she wouldn't tempt him with ideas like that.

He'd take her to dinner, he resolved. Just as soon as he thought he could sit at a table with her and not think about the flight. Stupid, glorious dragon sex.

He'd speak to Wingleader F'der in the morning.

F'der didn't go for it.

It was more than just because they were friends with their similar interests. It was because F'der thought U'by and Gallania just needed to be professionals about it. After all, Literath had once caught Ekoth, and they'd survived. It was at this point that U'by unwisely asked if F'der had ever met Gallania. That got him a look that told him he was dismissed.

« Is something wrong? » Ekoth asked with her planes of white, the vessel scrubbed clean. It niggled at her. Something seemed wrong.

« It's fine, Ekoth. » He'd taken to protecting her this way.

« Is it? » She was unsure.

« Yes. Trust me. » He infused his response with confidence that he seemed only ever able to have for her. Because she needed him.

« With my life. » It was how she always answered his words of trust.

"U'by." He knew he must have paled at the sound of her voice. She had one of those voices that even if they'd been in a crowded hall and not here in the wide open bowl, it would have tracked him like a hunting hound. He didn't want to turn around.

She tapped him on the shoulder.

His stuttering, "Gallania, I didn't hear you there," was wholly unbelievable and not just because it was the wrong sense. See. It should've been see.

He felt Ekoth flutter. She was intuitive that way. She felt his nerves and watched the pair thoughtfully.

"I hear my daughter's Knioth caught Ekoth last night." Trust Gallania to not pull her punches.

What should he even say to that? "Yes, ma'am," is what he came up with.

Gallania's stern look measured him. And then in an instant she was laughing, "Hope you showed her a good time." And then she slapped his ass.

As if he needed more of a reason to faint and/or blush after the stern look. He thought he had a problem before. What should he say to that?

"I did my best, ma'am."

She laughed more. He looked to Ekoth, "I've got to-- check Ekoth's straps." He didn't. He was sure they were adjusted just right, but he ducked around the dragon anyway to hide from the sound of her laughter.

« You are embarrassed. » Ekoth observed innocently. « Why? »

« That is Knioth's rider's mother. » He tried to explain.

« And? » She didn't understand.

That gave him pause. And?

Ekoth understood too well.
