| Greenhouse, High Reaches Weyr
Long, deep troughs of soil line the inner stone wall, planted with an assortment of broad, leafy tropicals - practical and decorative alike. Fruit and vegetable baskets hang from rafters, optimizing space, tempting in reach with a perpetually ripening harvest. A series of stone shelving is devoted to flourishing, aromatic herbs and new green shoots; even the softest touch releases a burst of savory scent from tender leaves. Amidst the greenery, a handful of wooden benches have been scattered, making this a temptingly warm and secluded spot to sit. Shuttered vents serve to regulate humidity and heat given off from a small hot spring recessed into an alcove at the back; a secondary pool with cooler waters siphons off to provide a constant, fresh supply for irrigation. A small potting station nearby is cluttered with watering cans and gardening tools of various uses, with a wooden bin for composting materials tucked underneath.
Hana braves the weather outside, well armed in layers - layers she almost immediately starts to remove, once the warmth of the greenhouses hits. Well, at least the shawls. Shoes and other clothing remain in place. Taking a moment to just relax in the warmth, a deep sigh is held then released before the young woman starts to go towards the other, less useful plants. And, of course, peeking around corners for gardeners. For the moment, there are no gardeners in sight-- in fact, there's just Madilla, who glances up at the sound of Hana's approach, abruptly beaming at the other woman. "Isn't it lovely in here?" she says, quietly content. "Especially when it's all foggy out there. I know I don't need to do the weeding myself, but... it's somewhat comforting, anyway. And a good excuse." Also: hello. "Weyrhealer Madilla - I wasn't expecting to see you here," Hana offers, a bright smile showing the surprise isn't unwelcome. She takes a few steps over, pausing to peer at a somewhat vine-like plant, before looking over, "I love visiting when the weather is poor - any excuse will do, even if it is doing someone else's work," she agrees, before adding. "Foggy - or windy. Brrrr." "I'm so much looking forward to spring," admits Madilla, with a shudder that's only a little exaggerated. She settles back upon her feet, stretching out her shoulders in a way that suggests she's been leaning forward a little too long, and is now glad to take a break. "And how are you, Hana? You can just call me Madilla, you know." "Watching everything grow outside will be lovely," Hana agrees, before laughing quietly, "But if I started to call you by your first name, well - that would just start a trend. First it would be you, then the weyrwomen, then everyone outside the Weyr - it would be mass chaos, and someone might think I was ill. Better I keep with titles, don't you think?" She steps away from the plant, it apparently not quite what she is looking for, and leans against a support. "I am doing well; keeping busy and out of trouble. You? The, ah, crafters meetings going well?" That potential chain of events has Madilla laughing - a low chuckle, really. "If you say so," she says, pleasantly, shifting her pile of weeds into a newer, more tidy pile. "I'm glad to hear that. They're - well, I think so. Well enough. I'm afraid that whenever you get a group of people together with different interests there will be arguments, but at least we're saving them for our meetings, and not the ones our representative has with the Weyrleaders." Hana chuckles, "Keeping arguments seperate often helps keep things moving along - and makes sure no one falls asleep during the meetings," she offers in agreement, before hmming and looking about. "Do you think Bones would be too upset if I took a snipping of one of his vining plants? While I would prefer a flowering one, that is really extra." "I shouldn't think so. The plants belong to the Weyr, not to Bones. That means they belong to you, too." Madilla is egalitarian about the plants, though she's already giving Hana a glance that suggests something else is on her mind. "Hana..." A pause. "I know Lady Issedi was your... I know you worked for her. And I just... I know she's very unhappy about my Dilan. And I wouldn't want you or anyone to think that I liked that this has hurt her." Hana hms thoughtfully and nods, "True enough - but I also know little of gardening itself. I wouldn't want to ruin anything for a bit of vine." At the mention of Issedi, and Dilan, the holder is silent for a time. Then, with a bit of a wry smile, shakes her head. "Anyone who knows you should have a good idea of that, We... Madilla." See - she can use someone's name. It just takes situations to do it. "And while I may have an... odd slant on the situation, I would never think that of you. It all occurred, when it is said and done, well before things were matched for them." There is a faint question to the end of that, and she's studying another plant carefully, working a tendril about to see if it is flexible enough for her thought. The vine is - briefly - second fiddle to Madilla's concern; it's as if she's waiting with bated breath for Hana's response, visible relief drawing her shoulders down, and sending her held breath free once more. "Long before," she confirms, quietly. "I'm not trying to steal him from her, Hana. I don't want him, not like that. And I only told him... I didn't tell him to try and get anything. I wish, for Dilan's sake, he weren't Lord Holder, even." There's a nervous laugh to her voice as she adds, "You won't ruin anything. It should be fine. Take it, Hana." Hana looks up and grins ruefully, "Oh, I don't want it /yet/. It's for... well, I convinced Alida to let me play with her hair. So it will be for that - in a couple of days, in fact. And I'm sure L... well, his father is very glad to know of him - and hopefully know him better, sooner rather than later. Vini can, too, also use a big brother." "Did you," says Madilla, sounding impressed. "That sounds like it'll be lovely. She has beautiful hair." The healer shifts, drawing one foot to the ground, and then scooting herself into a standing position again - all the better for stretching out tense muscles. "I think so. I know he regrets missing out so much time. Vinien seems delighted, and Dee's excited to have a little brother. I just wish it didn't have to upset Lady Issedi." Hana tilts her head, then gives a faint sigh. "You... may have to give her some time. I... presume that this was more of a surprise for her, than it was for Lord Devaki?" She pauses just a moment before going on, "So time - and then maybe some tea, where reassurances can be given. That, well... there is no plans to resume.." she waves a hand, a faint shading of color appearing, "And that young Dilan's not anyone's plan to replace Vini." Ah, Vini gets a nickname - so, her changing nappies is what gai... never mind that train of thought. Madilla bites her lip, and then nods. "I sus-- no. No plans to resume." She blushes, too, and ducks her gaze away. "It was a sin-- you don't need to know that, I'm sure. No. Dilan is not, and never will be, Devaki's heir. That's a burden he will have to carry with him, but to be honest, I'm glad he never will be. I wouldn't want it for him. No-- you're right, of course. I don't expect Lady Issedi to welcome us with open arms. But I will reassure her in any way I can, when she's ready to hear it." "Then that's all that you can really do - and perhaps, not blame her too much when her actions hurt you and Dilan." Because, in all probability and with all the affect she holds for the Lady, Hana knows that is as like as not. "Not that she would try to /harm/ anyone. Just... words." "No," breathes Madilla. "No, no, of course. I know - well, I can guess, a little, how she must be feelings, and I can't begrudge her that. It's hard, but I do understand." She brushes dirt off of her hands, and shakes her head. "It's difficult for all of us, but I'm sure we'll work it all out." Hana offers a bit of a sympathetic smile, "Well - I may not be able to help with the situation - but if you want tea some evening - or need a companion, well. Lady Azaylia doesn't keep me /that/ busy I couldn't keep you company." She takes a last look at her chosen plant, then nods once. "... I think this will work perfectly, when the time comes. Thank you for your advise, Weyrhealer." "Thank you, Hana," says Madilla, quietly. "I very much appreciate it. Good luck, with your hairstyle." Then, she's back to work, expression thoughtful, but not, for now, concerned. |
