In retrospect, it had all happened far too quickly.

The lack of sleep induced by Niahvth's glowing state had altered her mood beyond what even N'rek's company could completely assuage. She had managed in the end to drag herself out long enough to report for morning drills, but as it neared afternoon she found herself wishing she'd just stayed in bed.

It wasn't that she had no warning, there were the usual signs, Akluseth's physical twitches and restlessness more pronounced than usual. Her own heightened libido was well outside the acceptable parameters for concentrating on anything at all. No, what had jarred her was the way his tides suddenly overwhelmed her senses, drowning all thought and feeling save for an all-consuming need. Like being caught in a riptide; If she fought it, she would drown.

The idea of catching wasn't what had her avoiding flights. What bothered Edyis was the cramped space of a weyr; lust-crazed riders all vying for the same goal, the majority of whom could probably toss Edyis like a sack if the fancy struck them. It simply did not appeal to her sense of self-preservation. Sure Alida had coached her through self-defense, but when you are only 5'4" and maybe 120 pounds soaking wet, you aren't winning any matches with brawn.

Then there was the fact that it was Irianke, waiting naked for her pursuers. The woman had a tumble of attractive qualities that eluded precise description. Edyis thought about the softness she had witnessed in the woman, and found herself wondering if it was genuine. No, she hoped it was genuine, rather than another goldrider mask carefully cultivated over the turns. There could be no certainty, and Edyis very much doubted she'd ever be the one to see behind the facades.

She sorted through the dragon lust hazed memories, and the jumble of thoughts and sensations that even now made little sense to Edyis. Judging from the discoloration she could see through the tattered remains of her tunic, the tattooed flames were beginning to take on shades and tones of purple. Was it an elbow or a punch that she took there? She couldn't remember, which was an alien feeling in its own right.

Perhaps it was a small blessing that she couldn't recall much of it clearly, even more so that she hadn't dragged one of the flight lost with her when she escaped to her weyr. She slipped out of bed, tossing the ruined tunic aside, glancing back over her shoulder at the man stretched out in her bed, a smile unbidden curling on her lips. Perhaps it was Akluseth's way of apologizing, that the call to Largath went out the moment Niahvth was caught. The browns both stretched out in the couch area of the weyr, talking about what she didn't even wish to know. They had their backs to the interior of the weyr, in indifference.

She felt somewhat guilty, dragging him all the way out from Telgar every time she got an urge.

« So, I feel like it's time to tell you, » Listening in on her thoughts, and having just experienced the wonders of chasing, Akluseth continues. « But I'm pretty sure that being a fellow male, he'd be willing to chase any time you feel glowy. Just so you know. » Because apparently one flight, suddenly makes the brown an expert.

Uh huh, and the fact that this is all your fault, You have no sense of shame do you. Edyis returns sharply, pulling on a sleep shirt and crawling back into bed cuddling up.

« Is shame that flushy feeling you got when . . . » She didn't let him finish « Girls are weird. Still, it wasn't that bad. »

Says the one who doesn't feel like he got his ribs caved in. But the grousing was more habit than anything. You are really ok, not winning? She chooses to ask the brown, then, closing her eyes with a yawn as N'rek's arm curled around her again and she felt him kiss the top of her head, looking lazy and content.

« Would have been cool, I won't lie. But the adventure is in the journey, not the destination. »

She was still trying to decide if she agreed when sleep finally claimed her.
