Living Cavern, High Reaches Weyr

Stalactites hang high above this enormous cavern like a jagged chandelier or an inversion of the Spires themselves, but shadows cling to them instead of light. Below lie great tables arranged in rows, each large enough to serve a fighting wing, while in the nooks and alcoves around the cavern's edge sit more sensibly-sized tables, from six- and eight-seaters down to intimate spots for just a couple of diners. The only really open space is around the kitchen entrance, smelling of food and rarely quiet, and by the nearby serving tables with their long buffet of the day's offerings.

Tapestries on the smooth walls -- some faded and others newly woven -- only slightly mute the sea of sound when a meal is in full swing, but they add cheerfulness augmented by the glowlight from wall sconces and the centerpieces of each table. Still, shadows always creep along the ceiling and into the mouths of the exits -- the myriad small hallways at one end of the cavern and, at the other, the twisting tunnel to the bowl near an array of coathooks and and hatracks -- and late at night, when the glows are allowed to dim, the chamber can seem very dark indeed.

Tayte is an uncommon sight tonight, because not only has she been preferring to take meals in the Craft Complex since returning, but she's also been preferring to stay dressed down. And now she's wearing a pair of loose silky red pants and a pale yellow tunic with red flowers and green vines embroidered upon it. It's not dressed up nearly so much as she's capable of being, but it's up significantly from all the attire K'del would've seen her in over the past few days. Not only that, but she's gone through efforts with her hair, a braid crowning her head and secured with a hair comb with blue gemstones. She's not heading for the food either when she enters. Instead ocean eyes which have a hint of the distraught to them are scanning faces, finding K'del at the Taiga table, she moves purposefully toward him, trying to catch his eye and indicate silently she needs him.

Dinner is a social time for Taiga, and right now K'del is in the middle of an enthusiastic conversation with his wingmates; someone, not the bronzerider, is regaling the others with something that is apparently utterly hilarious. It's as the laughter begins to die down again that one of the others notices Tayte, and calls K'del's attention towards her. A moment later, he's excusing himself - and ignoring what are probably ribald remarks - to leave his seat and step towards her. "Tayte? Something up?" He sounds worried.

Tayte's a little breathless, having hurried from wherever she was, though at least now she's trying to behave with a little more decorum. She meets him, thankfully out of earshot of the wingmates' remarks. "Yes. You said no notes. I--" Briefly her expression shows she's full of jumbled thoughts, and the effort it's taking to order them. "I know it's a lot to ask, but I think I came back too soon. Can you-- would you watch Vali for a seven? I need-" She glances around a touch self-consciously, "- to not be here." Then her eyes are back to meet K'del's eyes. There's more in them than she's saying; some combination of hurt, confusion, frustration, and an edge of panic that together just make for a whole lot of 'not good'.

K'del sounded worried. He looked worried. Now... now he looks very nearly panicked. "Of course I can," is his immediate answer, only it gets followed up very quickly by: "But what's going on? It's not just you coming back too early, is it? Shells, Tayte, you look..." He doesn't have the words for how she looks, clearly. "Is there anything else I can do?"

Tayte is too aware of how public this place is. "Thank you." she answers the first and easiest. "No. But I'll sort it. Just, take care of our girl. I'll be back." And with no other answers the blonde's turning to head back the way she came.

Opening his mouth to argue, K'del takes half a step forward - and then stops. He won't chase her (this time). But he will stare after her, concern still written deep into the features of his expression.
