| Turnover was a relief in a lot of ways: a chance to let all those recently discovered cares disappear for a little while. K'del ate and he danced, and he mingled; he admired Milani wearing the hair clips he'd bought her for her turnday (not to mention the awe inspiring dress she wore with them), and he managed not to be annoyed by the group of youths who, uh, 'wrote' the message 'Crom Sucks' in the snow. He'd been feeling like he was caught between a rock and a hard space, ever since Kash had sent for him, to deliver her news. Breaking it to his parents had been traumatic; dealing with the inevitable 'bring her back right now' had been worse. Kash refused to go home, his parents refused to let her stay, and he was caught between. He forced himself not to think about tomorrow's family gathering, on that Kash refused to attend; it was going to be unpleasant, with or without her, but at least if she'd come the pressure would be off of HIM for a while. Quietly, though, he couldn't blame her being avoidant right now. Poor Kash. What a mess. But turnover: turnover was a relief. The weather was perfect, and everything was as it ought to be. It had been a good turn, all up, a prosperous one. There was no reason to believe that next turn wouldn't be the same-- better, probably, if everything worked out with their piece of land. K'del counted down to turnover surrounded by people he cared about, the weyr he loved, and he felt peaceful. Turn 21. A clean slate, ready to build on the good things from Turn 20. It was going to be a good one, he was sure of it. |
