| An evening of performances at Harper Hall has lead to a crowd of visiting harpers, and visiting others, too. R'hin is one of the latter -- dressed well, but lacking a knot, he gets a few looks, though most seem familiar with him and his lingering presence at the back, out of sight for the performance of his Journeywoman-daughter. He doesn't linger, however, sneaking out before the end of the performance, into the cooler air of the courtyard. It's particularly windy, which might be what leads to the bronzerider lingering at the edge, out of the worst of the wind. Among those in the courtyard is a young woman pacing back and forth in a rather abandoned corner. Today, Yuzuyu has traded in her long skirts and blouses for a floor length blue dress. She's dressed nicely for the evening, but socializing with the crowd doesn't seem to be on the agenda. In fact, if anyone passes just a bit too close she seems to startle and back up against the wall like an animal. Not long afterwards she's back to pacing and quite nearly runs into R'hin this time but stops just in time. "Oh! I-I...I'm sorry..." Quickly, R'hin's hand snakes out, more to help steady her with the light touch of fingers to Yuzuyu's shoulder than any attempt to prevent the collision. Amused, pale eyes stare down at her for a moment, considering. "It's quite all right, Journeywoman Yuzuyu. I was quite in your way." Despite his stillness and her movement. The way he regards her is with an odd sort of familiarity, in the same manner that he addresses her by name. "Did you sneak out of the performances early, too?" "I...um...I did, but it wasn't because I didn't enjoy it I did but there...are a lot of people inside and...and..." Yuzuyu stammers, biting her lip and stopping herself from babbling on more. It's only after she's stopped trying to explain herself that the young woman registers that he knows her name. There's sheer panic on her features now because no matter how she tries she can't place a name to the face. "S-sorry..." She doesn't say what for, but there again..another apology! "I thought you'd be used to it, after being here many Turns." He's amused. At her, and not trying to hide it. R'hin's brows rise at the apology, and yet he doesn't leap to the rescue by providing his own name just yet, if indeed he comprehends that's what the apology is for. "For a harper, you're entirely too skittish." Strangely, that almost, oddly, sounds like praise rather than recrimination. "I should be...." Yuzuyu bites her bottom lip and looks back to the Hall proper. The young woman's fingers begin to fidget at her sides, fingers twisting the fabric of her dress and then proceeding to untwist. "Th-thank you...or...sorry...rather...um..." The harper seems to be slowly losing her ability to speak properly, and she knows it. She shuts her eyes, taking a deep breathe and holding it for a few seconds before looking to R'hin again. "Are you...are you enjoying the evening?" Maybe she can get through the conversation without a name! "The evening is just beginning," comes R'hin's immediate counter to her question, "So it's far too early to say. Or," his head tips, as if inspecting her thoughtfully, "Is your intention to return to High Reaches immediately?" "I...well no, no I couldn't even if I wanted to..." Yuzuyu continues to fidget, but she's at least regained her abilities to speak properly. He knows her name, and he knows she's at High Reaches right now, and she /still/ can't remember his name. "I...I'm sorry I forgot your name! I'm so so so...so sorry I didn't mean to!" Apparently not having a name really was bothering her because she blurts out those words and only has the grace to feel supremely embarrassed after the fact. My, what red cheeks you have Yuzuyu! R'hin is, frankly, baffled by the response, and it earns a dark chuckle from him. "You," he says, with a marvelling shake of his head, "Are the strangest harper I've ever met. Come," he invites, abruptly, stretching an elbow in her direction for her to take. "Let's walk." "I...um....I'm sorry...." Yuzuyu mumbles, her eyes dropping to the ground before attention turns to the offered elbow. She seems like she's about to dart, but...his NAME! She requires a name, and the only way to get that is by accompanying him, and so she loops her arm through the elbow. Loop might be an overstatement though, it's more like a threat through a needle's eyes and her arm hovers so that it isn't sticking to his /too/ much. "Walking is...good exercise." Great conversation! "Do you...do you go to High Reaches often?" "You really need to stop apologizing," R'hin chastises her gently. "Especially as I have no idea what you're supposed to be apologizing for." A thread or a loop, the bronzerider takes the tentative touch in stride and, with a knowing little grin, sets an easy pace through the courtyard. "Not of late," he answers her question rather than her statement, as if it's of more interest (or amusement?) to him. "Occasional exceptions aside," he allows, after a beat, canting his head down to regard her. "How are you finding it?" "I'm sorry...I mean...um...yes, yes I'll stop apologizing." Yuzuyu would hide her face in both hands right now if that wouldn't involve looking completely awkward and ruining the precarious balance of her hovering arm. "I'm...enjoying it, everyone there is very nice..." Talking about people she's met seems to relax her just the slightest. "I found a canine too." /This/ earns an actual smile, but that fades as she remembers the lack of name still. "Do you...come by the Hall often?" Twenty questions! "Nice," R'hin echoes, not like he disbelieves her, so much as he's surprised by the use of that particular descriptor. "I have occasion to visit," he confesses, the grin suggesting he's indulging her question game. "Though," he leans closer, briefly, as if sharing a secret, "I do my best to avoid harpers as a rule." Instead of circling around the courtyard, he appears intent on leading them out to the road between Hall and Hold. "Yes, nice." Yuzuyu smiles a little bit again before frowning a bit at his answer. Rather than sad or unhappy, the expression seems to be more thoughtful. "Then...do you have a close friend that is a harper?" She goes perfectly still when he leans in, and she looks up to him while blinking. "But...I'm a harper and...you can't avoid harpers here..." So much confusion, so much! She doesn't seem to pay much attention to where they're headed and simply follows along. After all, she's on a name mission! "I know! It's completely vexing and illogical," R'hin says agreeably, as he straightens to continue walking, with a light pat to the tips of her fingers where they rest against his elbow, as if in some kind of odd reassurance or sympathy. "I know many harpers, and most of them are just as vexing and illogical, so it feels like vindication, I must confess," the last is said in a lowered voice as if whispering some secret. "I um...I try not to be vexing and illogical, they're not all bad..." Yuzuyu bites her bottom lip, but the corners of her lips are slowly moving upwards in a smile. It's a hesitant sort of expression, but it's there nonetheless. "Then um...I...must have seen you around with the many vexing harpers?" Timid she may be, but once she gets onto something Yuzuyu doesn't seem able to let go. "And yet the presence of so many harpers in one room sent you scurrying outside, a nervous wreck..." R'hin points out, with a knowing sort of smile. He pauses on at the intersection of the road, between where it turns towards the Hold proper, or out towards the main path north and south, as if considering which way to go. It's the Journeywoman's latter question that makes him look back at her, chortling briefly. "You do have the dogged insistence of many a harper, at least. But no, I doubt that's the case." "That...they...everything is...better in smaller doses?" Yuzuyu comes up with the best excuse she can, but ends up blushing in embarrassment at being caught on the sentiment. She pauses with him, glancing in both directions but ultimately letting him decide which way to go. "I...I just can't figure out your name and it bothers me because you know mine and I really should know yours because you seem familiar but I can't remember at all and..and...sorry." Again with the babbling and apologies, sheesh! "Mmhm," R'hin humors her, though is evidently disbelieving of her excuse. "I told you, no apologies." He steers them left, towards Fort Hold proper. There's a few people walking back and forward between Hold and Hall, but quickly, due to the wind. "I imagine I just have one of those faces. Are you giving up then, harper?" "Ah..right..no apologies!" Yuzuyu blushes, silently giving her brain a quick kick. She squints a bit at the wind but doesn't seem to mind that it's turning her hair into an avian's nest. No, she's so focused on her little guessing game. "Of course not, I just...I....alright, um....do you know someone that knows me?" Next question! A faint, dark chuckle comes from R'hin, like he's sure she won't be able to keep that particular promise for long. "I would be surprised if that weren't the case. I know a great many people. And I've made it my business to keep an eye on interesting new people. And harpers." As if they're a distinctly separate (possibly mutually exclusive) subset. "Interesting new harpers...." Yuzuyu purses lips faintly, beginning to go through a very short mental list and coming up with nothing on that one. And so, she starts going through her other short list. "Do you...have you met my parents? They're both harpers...Ziren and Yurumi..." After a glance at her; "Yurumi? Reddish hair? Slight features?" It's a guess on R'hin's part, an attempt at omniscience, but a guess with good probability given her appearance. "Yes!" Yuzuyu nods her head enthusiastically, apparently giving R'hin the benefit of the doubt when it comes to acquaintances. Quick to jump to the wrong conclusions this one is. "And of course mother knows father and they both know..." They both know a lot of people, but something is niggling at the back of Yuzuyu's mind. "Master Vesik..." A twitch of brows, from R'hin, as if to silently ask, Really? With a dark chuckle, "I'm flattered that you think I might know such an... illustrious figure." Is that a trace of sarcasm there? If so, it's faint and fleeting and quickly replaced by habitual amusement. Yuzuyu bites her lips, "I just thought that since you knew I was at High Reaches and you looked familiar and L-Leova was talking about and....uhm, n-nevermind. Forget what I said, I didn't say anything!" Apparently she's jumped to some conclusion of bad blood between the two! "At least you didn't apologize," a point of which R'hin seems to enjoy. They reach, and pass under the arch of Fort Hold, and into the courtyard. A darker shadow passes above, and the local watch dragon alights into the courtyard, an older looking brown. "For you, I assume?" Indeed, the watch rider's looking in their direction, and R'hin expectantly at her. "I didn't!" Yuzuyu smiles, sounding a bit proud of herself for who knows what reason. Most people usually wouldn't be. As the dragon arrives and the rider begins at looking her she starts to fidget and pulls her arm from R'hin's. "Yes...I think it's time for me to return. It was...it was nice meeting you....?" Her tone is questioning, still looking for a name despite it all. "And you." That disarming, and knowing smile suggests R'hin knows how frustrating the lack of a name might well be for a harper, and it's a frustration he's not about to satisfy. With a nod towards the rider (or was that the dragon?), the man turns and walks back through the archway they came from. As the watch dragon rises, Yuzuyu might be able to see a figure, moving purposefully down the road and crossing into the meadow before she's taken between. |
